Tuesday, April 10th, 2018: Bates Makes 300 Mark
The crowd roared -- they knew they were seeing history -- and Kirby Bates was delighted, too -- the 38-year-old Charm left fielder was making history with his 300th career homer. The crowd buzzed and roared again when Bates stuck his head out of the dugout for a curtain call.

"Never, as a kid, did I ever think I'd hit even one," he told BNN after hitting No. 300 in a 3-0 victory over Napa Valley. Bates went 3-5 in the game, had 3 RBI and scored 1 run.

Looking at his all-time stats, Bates has a career .283 average with 1273 hits, 299 doubles, 28 triples, 300 home runs and 958 RBIs to date. He has scored 728 runs, walked 295 times and stolen 32 bases.

Friday, April 27th, 2018: Settlers Chill Bradshaw's Hot Streak
Boston brought George Bradshaw's hitting spree to a screeching halt today in its 9-3 victory over Apex at Assasins Ballpark. The Settlers mound staff snapped the 24-year-old second baseman's hitting streak at 20 games. Bradshaw failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats to end it.

Thus far this year Bradshaw is hitting .364 with no home runs, 11 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 34-year-old Yi told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

Thursday, May 3rd, 2018: McCarthy Is King of Swing: Goes Deep 3 Times
Some days you can't have it all. Eddie McCarthy discovered that when he cracked three homers at New York Grounds during today's game against the Hammersmith Hooligans and lost.

"I have mixed emotions about this game," he said. "It's great to hit three homers, but it's hard to be happy when you lose the game."

The New York first baseman went on to describe his big day in his postgame interview. "I got three balls to hit and nailed all three of them. The first was a hanging curve... the second was right down the middle... and the last one was a good pitch, but I guessed right and put the wood to it."

He got his name in the league record book, but the Hooligans walked away with a 5-4 triumph. McCarthy finished the day with 3-4 and 4 RBIs.

E. McCarthy hit a solo-shot off R. Hall in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off R. Hall in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off M. Gómez in the 9th.

So far this season McCarthy has 11 home runs and a .319 batting average.

Thursday, May 10th, 2018: Red-Hot Sowards Scorches Heroes
On top of the Hartford hit parade today was Luis Sowards. He went to the plate 6 times and marched away with 6 hits, sparking the Harpooners to a 16-14 victory over the New York Heroes.

The sweet swinging second baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Heroes wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

L. Sowards singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, doubled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off S. Suzuki in the 8th, hit a solo-shot off D. Boyd in the 9th, walked in the 10th and walked in the 13th.

Friday, May 25th, 2018: Colón Pounds 3 HR
José Colón, the Hartford right fielder, blasted three homers today at Harpooners Ballpark in the Harpooners 13-3 victory against the Hammersmith Hooligans.

For the game, José Colón scored 3 times and knocked in 3 runs. When he hit his last home run, his teammates, hearing the crack of the bat, leaped off the bench and rushed on the field to greet the jubilant Colón, when he reached home plate.

In the clubhouse after the game, he gleefully said to the press, "It was just one game, but it sure was a lot of fun -- 3-for-4, three roundtrippers and a win. What a day!"

This year Colón is batting .394 with 15 home runs and 42 RBIs.

Tuesday, May 29th, 2018: Bradshaw Goes Hitless, Streak Stopped at 21
The Apex Assassins won the game 5-0 over the Boston Settlers. At the same time the Settlers mound corps did what no other team could do. They stopped the 21-game hitting streak of Assassins second baseman George Bradshaw. But that was still not enough to win the game.

"Our pitchers may have focused a bit too much on stopping Bradshaw," the Boston manager commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Assassins have other hitters and they did their job today."

This season in 55 games Bradshaw is batting .346 with 1 home run, 30 RBIs and has scored 39 times.

Thursday, May 31st, 2018: Number 300 for Gil
It was a historic day for Boston's fine left fielder Daniel Gil. He slammed home run number 300 in the Settlers 7-1 loss to the Apex Assassins at Ballpark of Boston.

He told reporters after the game, that he was disappointed in losing the game. "It's great to get that many homers, but I don't play for homers -- I play to win. That's the name of the game."

In his milestone-making game Gil went 2 for 3, scored 1 run and collected 1 RBI. That home run put him in a select group of ballplayers.

Career-to-date Gil has rung up a .292 average, played in 1191 games and collected 235 doubles, 30 triples and 300 home runs.

Hartford is pulling away in the CL, but 5 of the 6 teams there are still in the playoff hunt. The only team apparently out of it are the defending FOOL Champions from Ann Arbor.

Bill Halpenny took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in July. After all these years playing ball, the 36-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 4-1 for Hartford last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.10 ERA in his 6 starts, tossing 49 innings and striking out 50.

So far in 2018 Halpenny has compiled a 14-5 record with a 2.37 ERA.

For his excellent mound work Quero was named the CL Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Romero Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
It was a very good month for Jesús Romero in August. The 38-year-old veteran starter for the Chico Rebels outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Romero ran up a 4-2 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 52.1 innings he fanned 61 and recorded a 2.92 ERA.

To date Romero is 15-10 in 35 starts with a 3.15 ERA and has 243 strikeouts in 245.1 innings.

--------------------------------------------------

Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Continental League Selects #1 Starter in August
August's #1 hurler was Emmett Quero of Montreal. He gunned down Continental League hitters the whole month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award. The Majestics star piled up 5 wins and no losses to take the honor.

The 31-year-old Quero added 58 strikeouts in 52 innings and 7 walks to his season record and compiled a 0.69 ERA. Other clubs hit .162 against him.

Quero in 2018 has fashioned a 23-5 mark, 1.92 ERA and thrown 243.1 innings in 35 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .209 against him.

------------------------------------------------

Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Yi Takes RL's Best Bat Award
The hard-hitting right fielder from New York, Hyeong-ro Yi, wielded a big bat in August and was hailed as the Republic League Batter of the Month.

He hit a healthy .383 with 13 home runs, 34 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

This year Yi has batted at a .388 pace with 222 hits, 37 home runs, 132 RBIs and scored 118 times.

-------------------------------------------------------

Saturday, September 1st, 2018: Blackmore Named CL Batter of the Month
Beach balls were coming in at J.D. Blackmore in August and he banged, bashed and blasted them all over the park, putting up a .366 batting average and hauling in the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy.

The 28-year-old Montreal left fielder collected 41 hits last month in 28 games. He put up 3 home runs, 32 RBIs and 25 runs scored. Blackmore also drew 13 walks and compiled a .470 on-base percentage.

Blackmore on the season is hitting .319 with 22 home runs. His stats include 114 RBIs and 113 runs scored.

Monday, September 3rd, 2018: No Hits for Sowards, String Runs out at 28
The Hartford Harpooners lost to the New York Heroes 4-0 today at Harpooners Ballpark, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Luis Sowards's 28-game hitting streak.

"We felt if we could slow down Sowards, we would win the game," the Heroes manager explained after the game. "They really seemed to feed off of his streak, so we really wanted to make sure they had nothing to feed off of."

Sowards is hitting .356 this year with 8 home runs, 59 RBIs and 94 runs scored. He has 227 hits in 637 at-bats, 38 walks and a .394 on-base percentage. Sowards has played in 142 games.

Awesome finish there in the RL. Congrats hyde and bz on your playoff success.

Nice job muns, should be another fun playoff series.

Oh Napa, what to say. I guess you get a thumbs up for putting together a good team and having a solid season, but you'll have to settle for one of those dread #9 picks. Maybe next year.

109 wins? Letting Mauro Coronado and Jose Oliva (both 2018 All-Stars) walk obviously didn't hurt us too much. I though we'd be just as good because I had replacement production in line, but I didn't think we'd dominate.

Thank again, Alan. Looking forward to checking out the file.

I could have probably predicted the #3 spot but that doesn't make it feel any better. I made some last minute pitching switches and I'll be interested to see if that helped or hurt the cause.

Congrats to all of the playoff teams. I have to say that it was one of my favorite seasons to "watch" (thanks Alan!) in a long time.

I liked last season a lot, and this one was even better!!!

I thought you were gonna catch me Teach, I was just waiting for the next screen as I "rolled down" to see Nappa in front of Baltimore..... Its only a matter of time before we reverse roles here I think.

Congrats to all the playoff teams, and im hoping for another good showing with the playoff in Montreal. Just a different outcome this time

Man if I had any kind of bullpen I might be decent. They lost 27 games and had a 5.20 ERA which ranked them 4th in the CL in that department. My starters??? 1st with a 3.49.

We're starting to get some young guys up, but we're also having a hard time keeping the decent ones. At least we have ammo in FA this upcoming season.
