College Superconferences... ---- now with a gratuitous thread title edit!

Does anyone actually want them?

Yes, if it leads to a playoff system.

No, not really, at least not me.

Heck, not even "not really", more like "going to fuck up a good thing" IMO

I don't understand the benefit of it at all other than $ which I guess is plenty of benefit...just won't be for the fans.

Sure, why not

It would be interesting to see how things really shake out, to see an entirely new landscape.

I don't really care. They'll still be playing sports, and I just want to watch them play sports.

Killing regional rivalries and unbalancing schedules seems like a bad thing.

Indifferent without a playoff, but if this is what it takes to get a playoff, let's do it.

Rivalries can survive in different ways. If Missouri and Kansas break apart, they will continue to play and the outcome might be even sweeter. Missouri has had plenty of rivalries with K-State, Nebraska and Iowa State over the years, but as as a lifelong Tiger fan I don't think Illinois, Indiana and others are bad replacements. Every Missouri-Northwestern game will be the Journalism Bowl.

As far as unbalanced schedules though, I don't get it. Every major conference but the Pac 10 already have unbalanced schedules. How can they be worse?

And if the conferences adopt 8-team divisions where you play everyone in your division balanced, to me that's a huge improvement over the status quo.

A conference for me is playing teams you are familiar with. Sure the Big 10 schools don't play each other every year in football, but they do every other year at the worst. They are familiar with one another and have been playing for decades. It would be sad to see Northwestern only play Michigan once every 4-5 years.

The unbalancing of the divisions is also destructive. We know that there will be dominant divisions in these conferences and weak ones. I think it's crappy when you have a Big 12 like you did a few years ago where 3 top 10 teams were in one division and not a single ranked teams was in the other. The conference championship loses it's luster.

I grew up as a Big 10 fan and am familiar with all those teams. Adding a bunch of other schools from throughout the country sort of destroys the luster of the conference. There really is no history or prestige with it any longer.

I've been saying this for a few years now. I want:

--Four 16 team conferences, each with two divisions.
--One weekend of conference championships between divisions
--A round of four conference champs
--The Big One

Oh yeah, and add demotion games for each of the eight division bottom feeders with the Richmonds and Appy States of the world to spice things up, too.

Not perfect, but the best we could see in our lifetimes.

This is one sport where I really don't mind a shake-up in how teams are aligned, arranged, etc. I think a drastic altering of all the conferences would add some intrigue and freshness to college football. And of course, if it ends up with a playoff, that's even better.

Out here in Colorado people are angry about the rumors of the Colorado Buffalo
"following" Texas Longhorns to the PAC-10, if they go there. I read an interesting article postulating Colorado go to the Mountain West along with Houston and Boise State which would be an interesting conference.
