Halifax's Hall CL #1 Batter in April

Lee Hall battered Continental League pitchers all April and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Hall told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Hall hit .295 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 21 runs.


Hartford's Sousa Snaps up April Batting Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Luis Sousa put together a solid offensive month for Hartford and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .347 with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Winemakers Hurler Named CL's Best Starter

Bartolo Chávez's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-1 in April, the 27-year-old Napa Valley hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 26 in 44 innings, logged an ERA of 0.82 and allowed opponents to hit .166 against him.


RL's #1 Starter is Kipkoech

In April, Mubale Kipkoech tore through the Republic League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 22 years old.

The young Ann Arbor starter posted a 4-1 mark and an ERA of 2.44 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 48 innings he collected 27 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .261 average.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Lance Numbers earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Apex right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Numbers hit .306 with 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Jean-Sébastien Deschamps's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Hammersmith left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .259 with 9 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs. Deschamps also scored 12 times and drove in 14 runs.

Long Wins CL Prize, Named Best Hitter in May

In the last year of his deal with Brooklyn, Chris Long has created some waves by winning May's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .333 batting average with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 16 walks and a .424 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 29-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

In 52 games this season Long has batted at a .278 pace with 57 hits and 7 home runs.


RL Announces Best Batter Award

In the month of May Mathieu Coutu thumped the ball with authority, earning Republic League Batter of the Month honors in the process.

Tokyo's right fielder hit .344 with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

Currently Coutu is hitting .279 and has collected 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and scored 32 times, while playing in 56 games.

Pitcher of the Month Named in CL

Mike Grant of Noblesville had an outstanding May with a 4-1 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

He topped off the month with a 1.07 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 42 innings, fanned 25 and held opposing teams to a .192 average.

In 11 starts this year Grant has recorded a 6-3 record and a 2.24 ERA.


Lehman Collects RL Pitching Award

Hugh Lehman has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Bees bullpen ace collected 10 saves and 12 strikeouts in 15.2 innings, holding the opposition to a .164 average and posting a 1.15 ERA and a 2-0 record.

This season Hugh Lehman has made 25 relief appearances, saving 18. His record is 2-1 with 25 strikeouts in 26.1 innings and a 1.03 ERA.

Alarcon Wins CL Rookie Award

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, José Alarcon just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old center fielder for Noblesville hit .264 with 32 hits, 3 home runs and 15 runs batted in. He also logged 7 walks and compiled a .305 on-base percentage.

To date Alarcon has chalked up a .234 average with 4 home runs, driven in 19 runs and scored 28 times.


RL Names Rookie Star of the Month

Youngster Mathieu Coutu emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Tokyo deserved the honor, batting .344 with 8 home runs and 25 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Coutu enjoy the limelight.

Coutu is hitting .279 this year with 13 home runs and 36 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .300, 7 walks and scored 32 times.

Alexander Cops CL Batter of the Month Honors

The Continental League has made it official -- Kenny Alexander is the winner of the Batter of the Month trophy.

In June, the Noblesville left fielder starred with a .320 batting average, 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. Alexander also had 16 walks, posted a .412 on-base percentage and scored 17 times.

So far this season, Alexander has recorded a .268 batting average with 84 hits, 12 home runs, 41 RBIs, 41 runs scored and a .363 OBP.


RL Honors Bell, Best Hitter in June

Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, Lloyd Bell can still get it done in Front Office Offseason League. In fact, the 32-year-old left fielder for Cincinnati was named the Republic League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In June he batted .379 with 4 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Currently Bell is batting .333 with 101 hits and 9 home runs. He has knocked in 60 runs and scored 50 times.

CL #1 Pitcher in June is Brooklyn's Salazar

Enrique Salazar was on top of the world in June, capping it off with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

The Brooklyn starter was superb in 6 starts with 3 wins and no losses, 44 innings pitched, 43 strikeouts and a fine 0.61 ERA.

This season Salazar has compiled a 7-2 mark with a 1.83 ERA.

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Gary Broomfield still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 32-year-old starter for Hammersmith was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 23 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.08 ERA in 38 innings of work.

Up to now Broomfield has recorded a record of 12-2. In 17 starts he has fanned 80 batters in 111.1 innings with a 2.91 ERA.

Miguel Cruz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .408 average with 31 hits, 1 home run and 17 RBIs.

During the current season Cruz is batting at a .322 clip with 2 home runs and 31 RBIs. He has played in 69 games and scored 22 times.

Today Leduc's Félix Sánchez was named Continental League Batter of the Month for July. He slammed opposing pitching hard all month long, bashing out 32 hits in 104 at-bats.

With a .308 batting average, 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and 20 runs scored, he was a solid choice.

A look at his season totals shows Sánchez with 15 home runs, .244 BA, .289 OBP, 62 RBIs and 56 runs scored.

Veteran Tatsukichi Kouda put together quite a successful stretch in July for the Leduc Bullets, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Kouda racked up a 6-0 record in 7 starts, posting a 0.37 ERA over 48.2 innings and striking out 56.

On the season Kouda has a 12-4 record with a 2.19 ERA.

The #1 pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Warren Carr of the Omaha Bees. He worked the hitters over real good, finishing July with a superb 5-1 record and a 3.16 ERA.

Man, I was really surprised by this team. I didn't think I had the pitching to hold up. So it turns aorund and becomes a massive disappointment to be in first place on September 1 and then end up missing out on the playoffs by one game.
