30+ Years of Gaming. How it's changed me, and now how I'm changing It.

Understand if this gets turfed for being self promotional, but I figured this would get some interesting responses. I'm an older version of what most people would expect to be a Gaming Otaku, you know, one of those ones who spent hours on hours playing games, and then started tuning out the world.

It landed me in some dark places, but coming up from rock bottom (TW: Hospitalization for self-harm risk semi-discussed in here), made me change how I game, and just importantly, understand WHY I game.

Something people in the same situation as me should think about, probably.

In short, Gaming is not Life, and we shouldn't Live to Game.

thanks, LWSFS

I think I'm still looking for that balance.. one of the things that made this article click into place for me is when I said to myself last night "Hey, before, this would have been an opportunity to play WoW all night and gain 20 levels, what gives? Sure you hurt, but at least you could play for hours and it would distract you from your hip".

I realized that yeah, I don't have the focus to play marathon sessions anymore, nor the desire to sit at a computer for hours on end.
