RT Charles Brown (Houston)
14/38 24 years old 6'4" 277. We may have overreached on Brown, trading up to get him with Tampa, but we needed someone who could have some playing time this year and I like his frame, the only drawback is his endurance.

Week 1
Kansas City at Oakland(-2)

Kansas City Chiefs 0 0 11 0 - 11
Oakland Raiders 7 14 0 13 - 34
1Q: 03:09 OAK - Del Shofner 11 pass from Roman Gabriel (Daniel Macon extra point)
2Q: 10:16 OAK - Billy Lott 2 run (Daniel Macon extra point)
2Q: 03:27 OAK - Daquan Campion 7 pass from Roman Gabriel (Daniel Macon extra point)
3Q: 08:14 KCY - Kerry Lasica 26 field goal
3Q: 03:39 KCY - Hardy Bateman 18 pass from Ed Brown (Ed Brown pass to Jack Spikes for conversion)
4Q: 12:09 OAK - Daquan Campion 3 pass from Roman Gabriel (Daniel Macon extra point)
4Q: 04:36 OAK - Daniel Macon 40 field goal
4Q: 01:07 OAK - Daniel Macon 21 field goal

The Roman Gabriel era starts off with a bang as Oakland defeats the Chiefs 34-11. Gabriel went 23/36
268 passing yards and three touchdowns. Through out the game Gabriel looked composed in the pocket
and always seemed to make the right decisions. Billy Lott contributed eighty-five yards on the ground
and Del Shofner led all receivers with 132 yards. On the defensive side Rookie CB John McGeever, pressed
into action due to injury, made eight tackles with a sack. The defense sacked Ed Brown three times and
kept him unsettled in the pocket all day. San Francisco comes across the bay next week, fresh of a
38-9 victory over Seattle, I hope Gabriel can look as good next week as he did today.

Game of the Week: Denver vs San Diego
The other two members of the AFC West played an exciting back and fourth game in San Diego, Denver was up at halftime and looked
to run away with a victory but the Chargers had other ideas. The Charger defense forced six punts and fumble in the second half, giving
the offense enough time to score sixteen unanswered points and defeat the Broncos 23-20.

San Francisco(-3) at Oakland

San Francisco 49ers 0 14 0 0 - 14
Oakland Raiders 0 7 0 0 - 7
2Q: 09:54 SFO - Jerry Green 55 fumble return (Maxwell Sanford extra point)

2Q: 04:21 OAK - Del Shofner 14 pass from Roman Gabriel (Daniel Macon extra point)

2-8-15
A good old fashioned defensive struggle in Oakland today, hard to belive that a fumble return was the difference in the game (see last year).
The 49ers shut down the Raider running game and made Gabriel attemp to beat them. Five sacks of Gabriel had the young quarterback
wide eyed and skittish in the pocket all day. Two of our starting linemen were out for the day so I'm hoping that when we get them back
the line will solidify a bit. The Raider defense didn't play poorly, giving up just one Y.A. Tittle touchdown but the Niners were able to
keep their pocket much cleaner and in the end thats what allowed San Francisco to triumph. Next up we head out for our first road game
of the season against the Patriots, who lost a tough struggle against Detroit.

Game of the Week: Tennessee Titans at New York Giants
Several close games this week to choose from but this game was a great one. Only one touchdown scored today as both
defenses are very good. Going into the fourth quarter New York was firmly in command 12-3 and the Titan offense had
only crossed mid field once. A Terrance Andrews touchdown toss whittled the lead down to 12-10. The Titan defense
then forced the Giants to punt and Tennesse took the the ball on an 11 play/83 yard drive from their own 2 to kick another
field goal. New York was able to drive 43 yards to attempt a 47 yard field goal as time was expiring but it went wide
right and the Titans won the ball game 13-12.

Typical "I'm getting screwed over by the cpu" game, three first downs awarded by penalty after big stops,
four third down completions called back by offensive holding, twelve penalties total when we have
averaged four the first two games. New England put a clamp on us defensively, stopping Lott for most of
the game, Gabriel was 23/37 but only 197 yards. Along with the penalties and converted third downs
dropped passes hurt us as well,we just didn't show up and it caused our second shutout in team history.
Next week we travel to Jacksonville who went to Baltimore and thumped on the Ravens 27-11.

Game of the Week: Dallas at Atlanta
The high flying Cowboys travelled to Atlanta to face the Falcons with Don Meredith questionable, a game time decision.
An audible groan was heard as Meredith took the field, he is really staring to come into his own in the league. The teams
traded quarters in the first half with Atlanta up 17-14 at the intermission but in the second half the fireworks really started
Dallas led 28-27 and was driving to pad the score early in fourth quarter wehn Chuck Allen stepped in front of a Meredith
pass and took it back 63 yards to put the Falcons up 35-28 midway through the quarter. Dallas kicked a field goal and took over
on their 21 with 3:09 left in the game. Meredith manufactured a ten play drive throwing a 34 yard pass with a minute remaing
to give Dallas the win 38-35.

4Q: 10:45 OAK - Doug Asad 10 fumble return (Daniel Macon extra point)
4Q: 08:10 OAK - Daniel Macon 32 field goal

Aha! the return giveith and the return taketh away, we finally get some returns in our favor, a blocked punt and a fumble return to help us defeat the Jags. Gabriel did not have a great game and we are still passing way to much for my taste but our defense has stepped up and played very well during this first four games. Our running back tandem rushed for 82 yards and our defense held the Jaguars to 176 total yards. I was worried about the #2 pick Alworth going into this game, he showed flashes of brillance but for the most part we were able to shut him out. Four turnovers in our favor has us tied for 7th in turnover ratio for the young year. Gabe Anthony was the MVP of the game with two big time sacks, we were constantly harrasing Ninowski into bad throws.
Next week we head to 0-4 Houston, a trap game the week before we come back to Cali to face division leader San Diego.

1962 Week 1-4 Summary
We are currently a game behind San Diego and we are second in points scored against us in the AFC. Cleveland is 4-0 in the North with Pittsburgh a game behind. Cleveland leads the NFL in points scored. Tennesse is currently in first in the South at 3-0 with defending champ Indy at 2-2. New England is 3-1 leading the East, Buffalo one game behind. Philadelphia is currently 4-0 in the NFC East and the leading point scorer, Washington a game behind. 3-1 Carolina is once again looking like the team to beat in the South. Chicago is 3-0 and Detroit 3-1 in the North and San Francisco and St. Louis are tied at 3-1.
We are on the road for the next two games; at Houston and San Diego. After a bye week in week 7 defending champs Indianapolis comes to Oakland so this stretch will show if we are any good.

AFC West
San Diego 3-1
Oakland 2-2
Denver 1-3
Kansas City 0-3

Game of the Week: Cleveland at Buffalo
Cleveland traveled north to Buffalo in week 4 and a packed War Memorial Stadium was treated to a great game with a fantastic finish. Both teams marched up and down the field as Buffalo took a 24-17 lead into the 4th quarter but Jim Brown and Len Dawson led the Cleveland to back to back drives to take the lead 31-24. Buffalo fans were settling in for overtime after Johnny Green found Larry Walton to tie the score 31 all but Dawson put Lou Groza into position for a forty-six yard try and he nailed it to stun the Buffalo 34-31 and show the league why Cleveland is the favorite in the AFC.

Games like these make you want to kick the dog, yell at the kids and drink a beer. We jumped out to a halftime lead of 17-7 but couldn't do anything right and lost the game. We forced four turnovers but could only score ten points off them. Gabriel is decent but is not wowing anyone, I guess that is to be expected from a rookie. His fumbles are starting to mount and that is not helping his public appeal. Crow had 97 yards in relief of Lott, whose stamina is horrible. Lott could only muster 13 carries and38 yards. Del Shofner continues to carry the receiving crew. Our defense is still playing well but can only do so much when the offense is scoring 17 points per game. Irving Rayburn is turnover machine and although no one else is really standing out this year, steady play continues to define them. Next week Oakland heads to southern California to face division leading San Diego, this rivalry is becoming very heated as these two teams just don't like each other.

Game of the Week: San Francisco at Tampa Bay
The 49ers came into Tampa to play the Bucs in the after effects of Hurricane Kathy, 56 MPH winds played havoc with each team and helped the Buc defense stall the powerful 49er attack. For a brief moment Tampa fans were thinking that their team could pull off the big upset win but YA Tittle found Dave Sherer in the back of the end zone with two seconds left and
the 49ers escaped from Florida with a 21-20 win.

Oakland at San Diego(-2)

Oakland Raiders 7 0 0 3 - 10
San Diego Chargers 3 0 7 6 - 16
1Q: 09:06 SDO - George Blair 33 field goal

4Q: 02:24 SDO - George Blair 20 field goal
4Q: 00:40 OAK - Daniel Macon 50 field goal

Frustrating loss to say the least, we seem to get out to fast starts, grab a halftime lead and then do absolutely nothing in the second half. Gabriel's fumbles are starting to mount and hurt us at the most inopportune times, he was 13/35 today, not one of his better games, we threw the ball to much today for my taste. The biggest reason we have to throw so much is our running game at the moment, 53 total yards on 20 rushes, running back is going to be an area to look for in the offseason. DE Nicky Dobler, who has been complaining about playing time in the locker room, led the team in tackles and sacks today with 8/1 so I guess he will see the field some more. We get a bye next week before the Colts come to town, led by Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry, the Colts are currently 4-2, a half game behind upstart Tennessee.

Game of the Week: Philadelphia at Green Bay
Philly came into Lambeau the toast of the NFC at 5-0 and Green Bay was in second place in the North at 3-2, the Eagles were thinking that Green Bay's position at the top of the NFC hierarchy was ripe for the picking...Green Bay had other thoughts in mind, jumped out early against the Eagles and won a the game by sixteen but it was never really that close. Starr had four touchdown passes and the Packer defense harassed Sonny Jurgensen throughout the day, leading to two interceptions, five sacks and a 44-28 Green Bay win.

4Q: 08:19 IND - Lenny Moore 8 run (Steve Myhra extra point)
4Q: 01:49 IND - Steve Myhra 36 field goal

What could have been...we played lights out defense but still can't score any points. Gabriel had a better game today against fierce competition, we are going to be more aggressive in going for fourth downs. Crow got the start tonight and the combo of Crow and Lott gained 78 yards, Lott looked better coming out in relief of Crow. Our offense is going to suffer more this week with Jim Otto out due to an ab strain. Defensively we played decent but once again we couldn't get off the field when it counted. We travel to Kansas City next to face the Chiefs with the loser stuck in basement of the West.

Game of the Week: San Diego at Denver
I was tempted to use our game as game of the week but not much action made me choose this one. San Diego is the perennial tough guy on the block in the AFC West, we have only beat them once in five tries, Denver however gave them all they wanted for 59 minutes. George Blair contributed ten points in the game with a 26 yarder with a minute left and a 23 yarder in overtime to give the Chargers the win 16-13.

1962 Week 5-8 Summary
Three straight losses the last four weeks has dropped us to 2-5, we are 20th in rushing, 27th in passing and a plus 4 turnover ratio. Our defense is currently 9th against the run, 3rd against the pass and 5th in scoring defense. Home games against Tennessee and Denver are sandwiched between trips to Kansas City and Seattle the next four games. Around the AFC Cleveland is once again showing they are the toast of the conference at 8-0 and most points scored in the league. Tennessee is 6-1 and leading Indy by a half game. New England is on top of the East at 4-4 and San Diego is 5-2. In the NFC San Francisco is 7-1 and leading Arizona by two games. Philadelphia is 6-1 getting led by a stout defense. Detroit leads Green Bay by a game at 6-2 and Carolina is still the toast of the worst division in football with four wins, the same amount as the other three teams combined.

4Q: 01:44 KCY - Kerry Lasica 39 field goal
4Q: 00:11 OAK - Daniel Macon 34 field goal

I'll take winning ugly over losing pretty any day and that is exactly what happened today. Roman Gabriel went down with a hyperextended elbow and Louis Kurtz was able to rally the troops. Our running game was basically non existent (pretty much the same as all year) but the defense rose to the occasion and caused six turnovers. The law firm of Anderson and Cavalli sacked Brown six times and caused general havoc all day. Daniel Macon missed two field goals and as a result we are bringing in some competition this week. Tennessee comes to Oakland this week, they are 7-1 this year and the surprise team of the AFC, leading the Colts by one game.

Game of the Week: Philadelphia at Chicago
This game was make or break for the Bears, the Eagles are trying to prove they are one of the big boys in the NFC this year but through three quarters all they could muster was four field goals. Leading 12-10 in the fourth Jurgensen was leading the Eagles down the field when Dixon Foley stepped in front of a flat pass and took it back 57 yards to put Chicago up by five. Each team traded series and the Eagles were able to get the ball back with 1:50 remaining. Much to the dismay of Bears fans Jurgenson completed a one yard pass with thirty-three seconds remaining to win the game 20-17.

4Q: 09:18 TEN - Colin Stimson 37 field goal
4Q: 00:08 OAK - Philip Jimenez 9 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)

Wow, no need to find a game of the week, it happened right here in Oakland. Three points was all both teams could muster in the first half and after Tom Flores threw his first touchdown of the year the Raiders were cruising. The cpu had other ideas as it realized that it was losing and promptly returned the following kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Our next possession Wahoo McDaniel stepped in front of a Flores pass and returned it 53 yards to put the Titans up 14-10. Each team traded field goals and it was really bleak as Tennessee pinned us down at our own 2 with 2:24 left in the game. What came next was possibly our best moment of the last two and half years as Tom Flores, who hasn't seen the field, went 9/13 and led the Raiders to the Tennessee 9 yard line and on a fourth and four tossed his second touchdown of the game to Philip Jimenez to give the Raiders a huge win, 20-17. Our defense was huge, allowing only three points to the second ranked team in the AFC. We seem to have a problem at running back as both Crow and Lott seem to perform better when they aren't the starter which is a weird situation. Del Shofner and Daquan Campion continue to make me look like a genius as free agent pick ups, both of them had ten catches in this game. We forced eight punts in todays game and added two more sacks to our total for the year. We are now one game behind San Diego and Denver for first in the division with Denver coming to town for our first meeting of the year.

This game is hard to understand at times, Oakland came out on fire, even though Gabriel was knocked out with an elbow injury, and we had a 10-0 at the end of quarter #1. After that, nothing, eighty-one total yards rushing did us in. I knew the Broncos were tough against the run but I didn't think they were that good. Flores came in the game as relief and didn't look very good, 14/42 132 yards. We are going to readjust our pass defense from a 2 deep bump and run to a cover 3 scheme, we may give up more yardage underneath but will hopefully keep from giving up as many big plays. Next week we go to Seattle to face the Seahawks, Gabriel will be on the bench since he is hurt and Flores will get the start.

Game of the Week: Green Bay at Chicago
Several big games the last few weeks in the NFC and week 11 brings another one as the Packers travel to Soldier Field. Chicago was looking to play the role of spoiler and early on
they jumped out to a 21-7 halftime lead. After the half however Bart Starr and Paul Hornung figured out the Bear defense and the Chicago offense took a page out of the Raider
playbook and failed to manage any points. Green Bay's Jim Bakken kicked a 48 yard field goal with 33 seconds left to defeat the Bears 22-21 and keep ahold of the NFC North.

2Q: 05:46 OAK - Daquan Campion 6 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)
2Q: 00:32 OAK - Daniel Macon 40 field goal

Our running game came alive today, I'm not sure if it's because we made a concerted effort to run the ball more or if the Seahawks are that much poorer against the run. Crow and Lott combined for 119 yards on 35 carries and Flores went 23/39 for 252 yards. Shofner had 12 catches to pace the Oakland passing attack with Campion and Jimenez adding multiple catches. The defense was very stingy, holding Seattle to 233 yards total switching to more of a cover 3 defense, adding more run support in the process. Oakland will play the Ravens next week, who are currently three games under .500 at 4-7.

Week 9-12 Summary
Three wins in four weeks have brought us up to 5-6, our best record in the last two years. We are currently one game behind the Chargers and Broncos with games against both of them remaining. Cleveland remains undefeated at 11-0, 74 more points scored than any other team in the league. Tennessee is 9-2, leading Indy by one game. New York and Miami are tied in the East at 6-5 with New England a game behind. San Diego and Denver are tied in the West, ahead of Oakland by one game. Detroit leads the North over Green Bay by one game at 9-2 and has scored the most points in the NFC. Carolina is in firm control of the South at 7-4. Philadelphia is 8-3, two games ahead of the Cowboys. The West has San Francisco at 9-2 and Arizona and St. Louis at 8-3, battling for the last playoff spot. The last five games of the Oakland season has Baltimore coming to Oakland, trips to Arizona and Denver and visits from St. Louis and San Diego. Baltimore will more than likely be the only game we are favored in, I'm hoping we can finish 8-8 for our first .500 season.

An inter-conference game led to high powered shoot out this week as Denver and San Francisco hooked up in Kezar Stadium

Week 13
Baltimore at Oakland(-3)

Baltimore Ravens 0 7 0 0 - 7
Oakland Raiders 3 14 10 7 - 34
1Q: 07:12 OAK - Daniel Macon 37 field goal
2Q: 10:24 OAK - Toby Stuff 2 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)
2Q: 08:56 BAL - Bobby White 40 run (Robert Fox extra point)
2Q: 01:10 OAK - Philip Jimenez 17 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point)
3Q: 08:17 OAK - Daniel Macon 33 field goal
3Q: 06:45 OAK - Irving Rayburn 56 interception return (Daniel Macon extra point)
4Q: 00:14 OAK - Del Shofner 10 pass from Roman Gabriel (Daniel Macon extra point)

Oakland put it to the Ravens today...and it felt good. Flores was 30/44 282 yards 2 TD's and Gabriel came in and threw a garbage time touchdown. Shofner and Jimenez led the way receiving with 216 yards between them. The defense held Baltimore to 168 yards total for the game and made life miserable for Ravens players. All in all a good day, not going to say much, just gonna enjoy it before we face a tough Arizona squad.

Game of the Week: Indianapolis at Cleveland
The two best teams squared off for the third team in three regular seasons, Cleveland came
in undefeated and the odds on favorite to win the AFC. Indianapolis was in second place in
the South behind the stingy Tennessee Titans. Both teams knew exactly how important this
game was going to be for playoff seeding and both played their absolute best. Four quarters
was not enough for these two teams as Len Dawson and Jim Brown tied up the game and send
it into overtime, where Johnny Unitas kept the ball out of Len Dawson's hands and threw a
touchdown pass to win the game 30-24.

And just like that, the good feeling from last week is over. Roman Gabriel came back from injury and played poorly although it may have been due to Arizona being that good. Charley Johnson threw four touchdown passes and we didn't have an answer for him. Next up for us is a trip to Mile High Stadium for a match up with the Broncos.

Game of the Week: Baltimore at New Orleans
I don't think these two teams have been featured in the game of the week as so far both have subpar. New Orleans has a tough defense but their offense has been poor for two plus years and Baltimore has just been poor. This game was entertaining and a few lead changes, New Orleans led 20-17 lead late and had just intercepted the ball for what looked like a game saving turnover but an offsides call gave Baltimore new life. They took advantage and a Bobby White touchdown run gave the Ravens a 24-20 win.

Tough game for us today, neither quarterback looked good and our running game was just not working. Receivers were dropping passes and big plays were being called back on penalties. Gene Mingo beat us himself with five field goals. We play a good Rams team our next game, a team fighting for the last playoff spot in the NFC. I think I am going to give Tom Flores the start in this game and maybe go into next year with a quarterback controversy.

Damn, the third week in a row that we didn't show up to play, I knew this stretch of games was going to be tough but I didn't think it was going to be this tough. We will have to do something in the offseason to address our running backs because frankly they are not very good. Flores and Gabriel will fight it out in the offseason (Gabriel has the edge due to his potential) and our secondary will need to be upgraded. Week 17 brings our rivals from San Diego, currently tied with Denver for the lead league.

Not much I can say about this game today except the computer made sure it wasn't going to lose, four times I got inside the San Diego 30 and all four times resulted in turnovers, every one of the running backs I used fumbled. I think this was just one of those games. We finish 6-10, starting to get a little frustrating.

The Steelers win three road games against three division champions and their reward: a Packer squad that demolished a pretty good Arizona team.

No awards for Oakland
Profit $2,570,000

Final thoughts on the season; very inept on offense, we are going to have to find a running back who can both hold on to the ball and maybe run more than twenty times a game,
a new right tackle would be nice, too many sacks came from that side of the line. Secondary will need to be addressed this offseason.

First thoughts, Carolina is going to miss Van Brocklin; Dougherty was a stalwart with us, playing in 48 games during his Oakland career. Night Train Lane retires with 41 games played and seven picks over the last three years.

We gambled by trading down in an attempt to draft Willie Brown and we lost out when San Diego traded up. We took the best available player in WR Marcus "Flash" Jones.

We didn't care for any of the running backs in the draft and were still looking for a cornerback so we traded back up and drafted CB Tony Stricker from Colorado. This draft class was deep in guards, we are moving Wayne Hawkins to right tackle and Al Barry is in his 11th year so I figured this would be a perfect time to move up and grab a guard for depth and the future. We traded Dallas three picks for their second round pick and we grabbed G Chuck Walton from Iowa.

Rd 5 139. Oakland - Middleton, Joe, DT, Indiana
Rd 6 170. Oakland - Mitchell, Charley, RB, Washington
Rd 7 201. Oakland - Sisk, John, S, Miami, Florida

Mitchell was the only player to make the team.

We basically traded running backs with Arizona with Billy Lott going to the Cardinals, his stamina kept him from participating late in the game.

The defense had three sacks with Freeman and Spain having seven tackles a piece and held Denver out of the endzone in the 2nd half. Most important we get a big win against a division rival to get off to a hot start on the year.

Oakland gets a huge road win against one of the top teams in the NFC. Gabriel continued his steady play with 19/30 222 2 TD's and no picks. Mestnik and Crow combined for 75 yards,
Detroit managed to shutdown the running attack but they didn't play anywhere as good as the Oakland defense. Three interceptions, two returned for touchdowns and two fumbles
nullified a very good Detroit offense. Baltimore comes to Oakland next week, looking for their first win of the season.

4Q: 01:33 OAK - Marcus Jones 4 pass from Tom Flores (Daniel Macon extra point failed)

This game was closer than it should have been, Oakland couldn't do much in the third quarter and Roman Gabriel will miss at least one game with a strained achilles tendon. The running game managed only 113 yards rushing and penalties after big plays limited our offensive output. Jones had two touchdown receptions and is pushing for playing time in a crowded receiving corp. The Oakland defense was the big story of the game today, sacking King Hill seven times and holding Baltimore to 99 yards total offense. Wayne Anderson had four sacks in the game and currently leads the league with 5.5. Tom Flores will lead the team next week against the Patriots as the Raiders look to remain undefeated.

Tom Flores filled in for Roman Gabriel against the Patriots and played one of the best games of his career 21/31 214 yards 3 TD's but it took a Bert Coan 50 yard run to spark Oakland to a 27-24 win. Oakland had trouble putting away the Patriots as Sam Etcheverry was named the game MVP. New England is a team on the rise. Marcus Jones continued to push for rookie of the year awards, he leads the team in catches, yards and touchdowns.
Week 5 we will face 3-1 Kansas City with the winner sitting in first place in the AFC West.

Game of the Week: Tennessee at Cleveland
Tennessee is looking to prove that 1962 was not a fluke as they travelled to Cleveland to battle the Browns. A game that most experts figured to be a defensive struggle turned into a shootout as Len Dawson and Terrance Andrews drove up and down the field and in the end a Fernando Banks touchdown run put the Titans ahead for good 36-31 and put the AFC on notice.

I got almost five years into this dynasty before my cpu crashed losing everything in the process. Oakland won the Superbowl in '64 I believe against the Packers and was cruising into 1965.
