After winning game 1 and with Flaherty pitching game 2, I thought it would return to St Louis with the Cards up 2-0. Wainwright has been stellar at home and is a big game pitcher.

So I may have been overconfident, but yes, I did think sweep after winning game 1.

Had we lost game 1 I was thinking a 5 game series win for the Braves.

He also flips back and forth between Iowa being an elite program and wanting his coach's head. No reasonable fan thought this one was going to be a sweep.

I stated my reasonable and logical reasons for why i thought it would be a sweep.

You must not watch the the the team much. If you had, you would know there absolutely was a possibility of a sweep.

You do know that Flaherty has had a 0.87 ERA since July 7? There was no reason to think he woudnt shut down the Braves. Which he did. With Goldy and Ozuna starting to heat up, seems logical that the Cards would be up 2-0 coming home.

That alone is dishearting to teams. And then to face a big game pitcher like Wainwright, who has been nails at home all season, made for a great case for a sweep.

Anything can happen in the playoffs.

Maybe you should pay a little closer attention to the home town team.

AND my Hawkey fandom that you mentioned is 2 separate things that you conveniently lumped together. Yes, KF runs a boring offense that I was tired of. I hate how he runs an outside zone run play to the short side of the field. Im worn out with his inability to mange the clock after 20 years of coaching.

AND I have never said Iowa was elite. I have said I want them to become elite.

Get your shit straight before you question me, dumbass.

That's a bit of an overreaction to what I typed in your quoted message dont you think? If someone said you are a starry eyed Iowa fan in real life would you respond like that?

I was going to post a long story but this is not a dynasty thread.

Short version. I went against my rule about not missing time at school and signed The Boy out of school to go to the Rays game today. At some point during our drive to games, we have the same conversation. Here was today's.

Boy: "Dad, who are we playing against again?"
Me: "The Astros, Son"
Boy: "Oh okay. Are we sitting on their side or my side?" (I have made it perfectly clear to him that I am not a Rays fan so they are not my team )
Me: We are actually sitting in right field. So I guess we are on the Rays' side.
Boy: I hope there are more Rays fans than fans of the other team

Yes, Son. There were many more Rays fans than Astros fans today. Fun day. The stadium is not that bad when there are that many people in it.

Good for you. Life time memory there.

Cards win in extra innings. Flaherty going in game 5.

This is a great series.

I hope someone from the Cardinals pulls Molina aside today and tells him the bat flip is not the right way to play this great game.

I'm sure someone on the play the right way Braves will plunk him in a random July game next year.

Didn't understand the decision to pitch Verlander on short rest in Game 4. Why the desperation up 2-1? Now they have to burn Cole in Game 5. If they even make it to the ALCS they have to go Greinke in Game 1. And Greinke in Game 5 at Yankee Stadium is a recipe for disaster.

Probably more issue with the throat slash than the bat flip honestly.

Well the throat slash was a direct response to Acuna's. So I'd imagine a teammate may be more ok with it (as throwing a batter is more ok if your batter got thrown at first)

I missed that one, at least that would give this context.

And if somebody had put one in Acuna's earhole at the start of Game 2, I dunno how many people would have minded much frankly.

What a disaster for the Braves. Their manager should be let go tomorrow. Go after Girardi or Maddon.

4 walks, an error, wild pitch third strike, and a bunch of doubles.

I am not listening to the commentary so they may have covered it. Why was Carpenter removed from the game?

Thus far all I'm seeing is "defensive replacement"

Bader in center and Edman 3rd is a much better defensive team. Carpenter is a DH waiting to happen.

Unless something crazy happens, you are watching the next great MLB pitcher in Flaherty.

I can see a no hitter or 2 and multiple Cy Youngs in this guys future.

7x All-Star, 5x Silver Slugger. Solid career.

AJC senior sportswriter Mark Bradley

"No team has ever looked worse in a bigger game than they did in this first inning. Say what you will about the Falcons, but they did enough right to lead by 25. The Braves took the big stage and tripped over the footlights. I don’t mean to be cruel, but there’s no other way to say it: They embarrassed themselves."

Does the Nationals manager know he's down 3 runs? Why did Strasburg hit with two men on. You need runs more than a few more outs from the starter. It's an elimination game, every pitcher should be available.

Unless there's a five run bottom of the 10th, Dave Roberts has got to be unemployed before the weekend.

Yep, Roberts needs to go. I'd be fine with them moving on from Kershaw also. Though I blame Roberts for that more.

Hell, even if there IS a miraculous comeback, he ought to be unemployed by the weekend anyway. No sense letting him stick around to FUBAR anything else.

The Kelley management is beyond belief. Leaves him in after loaing the bases and at 30 pitches in his season inning. He should have been gone after the initial walk at the latest.

Im not reactionary either, but Roberts misjudge a bullpen game again. If I'm Friedman, I'm calling up his former manager tomorrow

I mean, hell, Alston only been dead 35 years.

He'd stink up the dugout a lot less than Roberts.
