Robin van Persie could have a hat trick in these opening 20 minutes here, really.

Vermaelan leaves it late. 90+5 for the winner. Very heated contest. Arsenal with their typical probe around the outside of the box for the majority of the match and finally try and score in the last ten minutes.

But really, Platini should really be looking to clamp down anyone willing to pump money into football right now. It's despicable. Don't need it at all.

Considering the likes of Portsmouth and Port Vale are in administration and clubs with long and storied histories are going to fade into nothing...

I enjoyed the Timbers Army singing the national anthem last night. The game itself wasn't great but at least it improved some in the second half.

Right now I wish I had three TVs in one room to watch Inter - Marseille, Bayern - Basel, and Liverpool - Everton all at once.

Robben just scored

Sneijder should have scored a few moments ago.

Bayern Munich is just destroying Basel right now, 4-0. If Inter doesn't win, I think that Ranieri is out before the end of the week.

Liverpool have scored their first two goals at Anfield in 2012.

Their only goal before this was Koscielny's own goal in the Arsenal match

What a goal to concede at that point, a long punt hit Brandao in the back then he beat Lucio to the rebound and scored.

They won the game, but lost on the "away goals" rule.

It ends 7:0, last weekend Bayern allready won their league game 7:1. Bayern is one of those teams, when they get rolling, they really roll.
Especially when they get up early, once you get into situations where you are too far up the pitch to get back in time to double Ribery and Robben.
Unfortunately for them they can also be thrown off their game suprisingly easily for a team with their talent, especially on the road.

Interesting, some of it is soccedr related..

Fox Soccer Plus just picked up a shit ton of rights, some of it for the summer doldrums:

Rugby League: Both major leagues, the Super League (England) and the NRL (Australia)
Soccer: The Scottish Premier League, through 2013-14
Aussie Rules Football

Two of the big four leagues will go pretty much off screen, as Al-Jazeera US won the bidding rights for both Ligue 1 (from Fox Soccer +, which is probably why FS+ went out and got the SPL) and La Liga (from GolTV, who are in trouble, the SPanish league was one of their big draws).

Who knows if we'll see the games, Al-Jazeera US is only carried in arabic on dish network. Rumor is that they will buy a US based Spanish network (or perhaps GolTV, which has both an english and spanish feed)

And the match has been called off.

Quote:
ESPN's reporter in the White Hart Lane tunnel says Fabrice Muamba was not breathing when the Bolton midfielder was carried past him. Medical staff were still attempting to resuscitate him and a defibillator had been used.

Well done by Howard Webb to abandon the match too. For all the shit we give refs, the good ones do get it right in serious situations.

hope he turns out to be ok really, reportedly in critical condition still ...

in the bundesliga Dortmund wins another close one and stays in first place, 5 points ahead of Bayern who win at Hertha Berlin 6:0, which gives them 20 goals in their last 3 matches including the thrashing of Basel

kenny copper stinks. no wonder he's on his tenth team in 5 years. another brilliant signing.

i'd love to see a cost benefit analysis of how many latin fans rafa marquez brings in vs. how many games they lose because he can't/won't play.

Sounds like that is what kept him alive. The reports out of England say that his heart wasn't restarted until he got to the hospital.

Bolton says Fabrice Muamba's heart was restarted at hospital - ESPN

Really excited about the Sporting KC start. Appear to be starting right where they left off. 2 wins with a great 3-0 win in the home opener.

Amazing what the new stadium has done to build the fan base. The place is crazy for every single game. I remember when I went to some of the first games in Arrowhead. It's a whole lot more fun in a packed 20K stadium with the seats right next to the pitch lines.

wow, that´s a great shot Most "olympic stadiums" suck for soccer, this on the other hand looks to be a great fit !

Arrowhead Stadium is a fantastic setting for American football, but not for soccer. I was so excited to hear the new ownership was looking to build a soccer specific stadium and Livestrong Park has definitely lived up to the hype. Kudos to the fans in the Cauldron (Sporting KC diehard fan group) because they definitely make the game a fun and eventful time. I've taken a number of friends to the game who weren't big soccer fans, but had such a good time they either purchased season tickets this year or are always keeping tabs on the team.

Same thing here in Chicago. Haven't been to a game yet, but have friends who have. And it supposedly made the whole thing much more fun once they built a soccer-only stadium.

What is it about players going to the senior national team that they forget how to play? Adu had a fucking strike for the U23s that would have been a goal against anyone. We're destroying Cuba, but even our senior team doesn't attack like this against equally weak opponents.

SWEET!!!! Wigan may still be able to stay up once again. Amazing how they have been able to thus far. 2-1 at Anfield... WOW!!

That's two wins and three draws in their last six.
