AI flaw in endgame

Maybe this isn't really a flaw or bug, but today I was playing a playoff game and was leading 6-3 down the stretch when the computer drove down the field on me. WIth 8 seconds left and clock stopped after an incompletion, rather than tie the game, the computer ran a 5-yard running play and the game ended. While I certainly was happy to have won the game, I would say that unless you're Dom Capers and your team is 2-8 with no hopes of the playoffs, this was a pretty foolish decision. Right?
