Here is where we will all vote on the winners. It is up to the voter to determine whether a movie is a comedy, or if it fits correctly in the category. Participants may vote, but not for themselves. Please list your top three picks in order. First place votes receive 5 points, second place receives 3 points, third place receives 1 point. Voters may ask participants to explain picks, and participants may preemptively explain picks that they feel the need to.
The categories and time frames are as follows: Categories: Historical Horror Music Parody Dark Comedy Romantic Comedy Sports Teenager War Wild Card (Any of the above, or a category not covered) Time Periods (This is the movie release date. I will use IMDB as the official ruling on dates): Before 1960 1960's 1970's 1980-1984 1985-1989 1990-1994 1995-1999 2000-2007 2008-present Wild Card (any time period) Voting will remain open until midnight pacific time, Sunday February 1st (Super Bowl Sunday). I actually think ColtCrazy's is the best. Though Grover's would have the biggest mass appeal, probably.

Thanks.
Can honestly say I didn't have a pick where I went 'ugh, guess I'll take this to fill this category.' Very happy with how my picks went and I like all of them as movies. |

1.10 - Singin in the Rain, Music, Pre 1960
2.1 - Ghostbusters, Horror, 1980-84 3.10 - Back to the Future, Teenage, 1985-89 4.1 - Tropic Thunder, War, 2008-present 5.10 - Forrest Gump, Historical, 1990-1994 6.1 - Austin Powers, Parody, 1995-1999 7.10 - Breakfast at Tiffany's, Romantic, 1960s 8.1 - Slap Shot, Sports, 1970s 9.10 - Beverly Hills Cop, Wildcard, Wildcard 10.1 - Bad Santa, Dark Comedy, 2000-07 I've got three undisputably classic 80s comedies in Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and Beverly Hills Cop. I've got a classic music comedy (Singin in the Rain) with one of the most famous movie scenes of all-time. My romantic comedy (Breakfast at Tiffany's) has a screen legend in one of her most famous roles. Few movies have the combination of critical acclaim and box office success as Forrest Gump and it is a perfect choice for its category as its a historical travelogue. Austin Powers is an inspired parody of James Bond, Bad Santa is a hilarious dark comedy, Tropic Thunder is a great modern war comedy, and Slap Shot is at or near the top of almost any sports comedy list.

1- larrymcg421: Runaway #1 for me, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and Tropic Thunder were all fantastic picks.
2- cartman: Had about 5 movies I really enjoyed among his picks. 3- AENeuman: Close between him and britrock, Animal House put him over the top. |

1) Cartman
Some brilliant picks in this list. He leads off with the all time best teen comedy in Ferris, which my son recently saw 30 years after it came out and instantly became a Ferris disciple. The Blues Brothers is THE classical music comedy. Borat is the epitome of a parody comedy. Life is Beautiful is a great dark comedy, Tremors is the ultimate horror comedy and the original Hangover is damn funny (the sequels...not so much). There are a number of other very good lists (though I see a number of flicks from others that are "comedies" as much as Aliens or The Shawshank Redemption are comedies) but Cartman's easily wins in my book. |

I went in and tried to eliminate anyone who tried to play fast and loose with the categories, or what are considered comedies. There are probably 6 or 7 films listed that are not comedies, so you get punished in my vote!! haha, last laugh!!
1. Cartman- Major League, Borat, are great picks. Ferris Bueller in round 4 is fantastic value. 2. CR- Sarah Marshall at 10 is a amazing pick, really like GMV, and airplane picks 3.Timmae- late picks of Gremlins and Bad News Bears are great! How could nobody pick There's Something About Mary!!!

Every list for me had one or two eliminators, in the sense that I either hated a movie on the list, or felt that one or some are no comedies or wrongfully categorized. It also doesn't help that I haven't seen half of the movies of most lists. But I came to a decision eventually, making it:
1 Grover 2 britrock88 3 Chief Rum

Then you would simply add to johnny's list of what are not comedies. Very high bias against anything Will Ferrell did, not quite to Sandler's level but still. Seriously, I think there were several movies chosen that were clearly not comedies but that's just a personal opinion and not one to argue over. |

So I'm a nerd and listed each category, rated the picks 1-10 and totaled everyone's score. The winners:
1. larrymcg421 Larry won this pretty handily, actually. My list had outliers at the top and bottom, with everyone else extremely close right in the middle (sorry NobodyHere, but while I enjoy your lineup a lot, I think you miscategorized several of them). Ghostbusters was his only #1 for me, but everything else was extremely solid. 2. AENeuman If I had seen The Lego Movie or Casino Royale, he may have overtaken larry at #1. As is a very solid lineup from top to bottom, with exceptional value late in the draft in Animal House and It Happened One Night. 3. cartman Honorable mention to Grover, who tied cartman in my mathematical analysis, but cartman's three #1 movies in their category (Blues Brothers, Major League and Ferris Bueller's Day Off) break the tie in his favor. Borat and Tremors, while solid picks, actually hurt cartman here because their respective categories were so stacked. My unfamiliarity with The Gold Rush and Paint Your Wagon didn't help. This draft was a blast to follow, thanks for putting it on guys. My only 'holy crap, how was this not picked?!!?' was So I Married an Axe Murderer, which would have slotted in 2nd in the Horror category for me. For kicks, my top three in each category: Rom Com: 1. The Princess Bride 2. When Harry Met Sally 3. It Happened One Night War: 1. Dr. Strangelove 2. Good Morning Vietnam 3. Stripes Historical: 1. Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail 2. Bill & Ted 3. Forrest Gump Dark: 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Bad Santa 3. Fargo Parody: 1. Spaceballs 2. Naked Gun 3. Austin Powers Music: 1. The Blues Brothers 2. This is Spinal Tap 3. Wayne's World Horror: 1. Ghostbusters 2. Young Frankenstein 3. Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein Teen: 1. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2. The Breakfast Club 3. Back to the Future Sports: 1. Major League 2. The Big Lebowski 3. Caddyshack Wildcard: 1. A Christmas Story 2. Animal House 3. Beverly Hills Cop Top Three Miscategorized Movies: 1. Airplane! - Should have been a parody! 2. Clue - Was #4 in parodies for me, would have been #1 as a wildcard. One of my favorites. 3. Toy Story - Really, this movie was hurt by the categories available, not necessarily that it was put in the Teen category. Still probably better to me as a wildcard. Last edited by Vince, Pt. Elf is another that could easily have been picked. A 'Holiday' category would have gone well, I think. You can easily start to bloat the draft though - Buddy comedies, Action comedies, Holidays, etc.

Two movies I'm surprised weren't picked:
The Odd Couple Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Both suffer from not falling in any of the categories. Seeing that my list suffered from my personal preference (passed on Spaceballs & Austin Powers). My goal was to have the Marx Brothers, a Mel Brooks movie, and Monty Python. Got 2.5 (since Wanda involves Python alum). Like my list, though there are some strong lists against me. Can't really say there's a bad list out of any of them. |

Such a deep, and fun draft. I think nearly all movies are good. So it comes down to personal preference. I happen to love all but 2 of my movies. If I had to go over to one of the other houses to,watch a comedy, I think the following 2 have the highest probability they would be playing a movie I like:
1. Grover 2. NobodyHere |

I recognize that i can be anal about these types of things. Who's afraid of Virginia Woolfe- some funny does not equal comedy if the film isn't a comedy. Pulp Fiction- Same as WAoVW The Room- Obviously not intended on being a comedy. We laugh because of how inept it is. Does that make it a comedy? Not in my books, but I can totally see why it was chosed, and feel this is the type of reach i can get behind. Fargo- funny in spots doesnt make it a comedy. Fight Club- Not really all that funny. Inglorius Basterds- Same as fight club. Not really that funny. Obviously Nobodyhere and I have a different view on what a comedy movie is, but i loved his Happy Gilmore pick. Forrest Gump- Comedic/ entertaining make you smile scenes does not make this a comedy. Again, I am anal about this kind of thing, but i do realize it is for fun, i just couldn't help myself and had to say something!

It is funny that for that last 25 years, PTA has been my favorite comedy. It even was both of my brother's favorite comedy as well. I asked AENeuman if it was still his favorite and said no, it probably didn't age well (I don't know about our other brother). For me, I don't know, haven't given it any thought. While I agree with Johnny's list about non-comedies, I do like most of those movies. But I'm old school in that I grew up with Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges and really love the slapstick, laugh-out-loud comedies of the 1980s. Nowadays, people seems to want to use shock and dark themes as comedy.
Perhaps JPhillips can give his opinion on how comedy has changed. |

Understandable, but everything I looked at in considering the movie, is that it is considered to be a black comedy.

I pretty much agree with you. The commonality of these movies is that they're "quirky", which isn't necessarily the same thing as being a comedy. I understand Tarantino films are hard to classify. They tend to blend genres a bit, but it's really not that hard to figure out in the long run. A serious scene of a man being raped doesn't generally appear in a comedy, even a dark one. Look at the motion picture business itself for how they're classified. For instance, Pulp Fiction won the Golden Globe award in 1995 for Best Drama, not best comedy (Babe won that). When you went to the video store to look for these movies, they were under dramas and not under comedies. That to me is the real key - where would you find these in a video store? Of course, that's just my personal opinion. |

@Johnny93g & Blackadar
I think all those movies are comedies except for The Room. Fargo, Pulp Fiction, and Fight Club are all commonly cited as dark/black comedies. Anyway, my votes are: 1. ColtCrazy 2. AENeuman 3. britrock88 |
