Great albums by artists you didn't previously like
The Dixie Chicks were not even a blip on my radar before 2006. I didn't like them, I didn't hate them. They were just part of a genre that I didn't care about or pay much attention to. Then one day in the car, my wife was playing the Taking the Long Way album. At first, I dismissed it as having a couple of good songs ("Taking The Long Way Around" and "Not Ready to Make Nice") and then a bunch of filler, but on further listens, I came to like just about every song on it.
The album came in the aftermath of Natalie Maine's disparaging remarks about George W. Bush. Some songs are about how they dealt with the fallout from that controversy, while others are more about the feelings of loss, regret, and disillusionment that come when young idealism runs into the harsh realities of the world. Anyhow, I was just wondering if others have albums that came out of nowhere and changed your perception of a musical artist or group. |
