Somehow I feel like I wandered into the wrong room. Think I'll stay a while and see what the hoopla is about.

Yeah it's totally weird to switch over. You'll find a home here soon enough!

Two announcements before the season starts:

ShoelessJ03 is the new owner/GM of the St.Petersburg Pelicans! He is currently the GM of FOOL-X's Chicago Cardinals, the 2002 FOOL-X Continental League champs.

Also, news out of Hartford is they have finished a renovation project on their new ballpark. After altering the field dimensions and changing the orientation of the park, it is expected less wind blown home runs and a little bit more of a pitcher's park now.

Man, I was really pumped up and then I hear the booming voice over the loud speaker introducing my name to the starting lineup. It definitely didn't sound anything like I expected! I pictured Bruce Buffer, but after having to announce that line of accomplishments, no way you could do anything better with it, Alan! You'd figure that after 21 seasons in FOOLX I'd have accumulated more to boast about! Sadly though, 21 seasons and only 2 post season trips, and one Classic teaser. haha

Maybe I can change my luck over here in FOOL.

All kidding aside, thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to it.

On a side note

I'm not sure what to expect from my team yet. I know one thing. I'll be watching Leroy Winter with a smile on my face.

Oh, and I have a 27 year old 1B making his debut this year... hoping he can do something interesting.

My team is going to perform very poorly. Well, at least the pitchers will, the batters will be average.

Fujihara Tabbed as April's Starter of the Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2066: Takiji Fujihara has made fans throughout Front Office Offseason League take notice over the past month with an exceptional 4-0 record. No pitcher in the Republic League threw better in April, garnering him the Pitcher of the Month award today.

CL Picks April's Top Pitcher

Saturday, May 1st, 2066: Ken LeGrange nailed down April's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St. Petersburg to get a deal done before the 35-year-old becomes a free agent.

LeGrange seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 23 strikeouts, worked 38.1 innings and held batters to a .255 average for the month as he posted a 2.35 ERA.

Marés Raps 500th Roundtripper
Thursday, May 20th, 2066: "I wasn't trying to hit a homer. I just wanted to make contact."
That's what Luis Marés told reporters after he made baseball history today at Ballpark of Napa Valley. The prolific slugger belted home run #500 in the Napa Valley Winemakers 7-0 victory over the Tokyo Cyclones.

The standout left fielder collected 1 hit in 2 at-bats with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

"I guess this puts me in baseball's elite," said Marés. "I don't feel any different. I probably should, but I don't. Still, it is a nice achievement. I did get a little excited, didn't I?"

His numbers show Marés is carrying a .272 lifetime batting average with 500 home runs and 1607 RBIs.

Marlboros Rastelli Named RL's Best Pitcher
Tuesday, June 1st, 2066: Ivan Rastelli's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 3-1 in May, the 31-year-old Toronto hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

This season Rastelli has a 6-2 record with a 3.43 ERA in 11 starts.

Gutiérrez Wins CL Top Pitcher Award

Tuesday, June 1st, 2066: "The kid had it all working last month," a veteran teammate told reporters. "He keeps up those kind of numbers, we may have to start inviting him out with us after the games."

Baddeley Gets May's Rookie Trophy
Tuesday, June 1st, 2066: Luca Baddeley is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Chico hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .333 average with 33 hits, 1 home run and 12 RBIs.

In this current campaign Baddeley is hitting at a .319 clip with 1 home run and 21 RBIs.

Fernández in a Class by Himself
Tuesday, June 1st, 2066: Jorge Fernández earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Tokyo second baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Fernández hit .330 with no home runs, 12 RBIs and 17 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In his stats this season, Fernández has posted a batting average of .318 with 62 hits in 195 at-bats, 1 home run and 29 RBIs. He has also scored 28 runs, walked 35 times and compiled a .438 OBP.

Winemakers Jones Tames Boston
Saturday, June 19th, 2066: Anthony Jones put a hex on Boston in a sparkling 15-0 shutout performance, mesmerizing them on a 2-hit gem.

"I feel good physically," he said. "Everything's comfortable. You should pitch well when that's the case."

It was anything but comfortable for Boston.

"Jones used his changeup very well, very effectively," the opposing manager said. "He threw it in hitter's counts."

The Napa Valley Winemakers hurler fanned 13 and walked 5.

This year Jones has posted a 8-3 mark in 17 starts and has a 1.93 ERA.

RL Pitcher of the Month Goes to Vélez
Thursday, July 1st, 2066: Jorge Vélez has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Marlboros bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 8 strikeouts in 12.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .271 average and posting a 2.19 ERA and a 1-0 record.

To date Vélez has 17 saves with a 3-3 mark and 3.11 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .274 against him.

Tracy Acclaimed Top Pitcher in June
Thursday, July 1st, 2066: Ben Tracy took home the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 37-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-1 for Napa Valley last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 1.21 ERA in his 7 starts, tossing 44.2 innings and striking out 37.

To date this year Tracy has compiled a 8-7 mark with a 2.54 ERA in 19 starts.

RL Announces Best Batter Award
Thursday, July 1st, 2066: When guys like Ann Arbor's José Valéncia win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive June, the longtime Republic League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 41 hits in 114 at-bats.

The veteran shortstop hit for a .360 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

For the year Valéncia is batting .321 with 20 home runs, 74 RBIs and 58 runs scored.

Continental League Announces June's Best Batter
Thursday, July 1st, 2066: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Leroy Winter. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as St. Petersburg's second baseman pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .370 in June collecting 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

This season Winter is swinging the bat at a .338 rate with 90 hits in 266 at-bats. To date he has hit 19 home runs, scored 68 runs and driven in 68.
