China's moon lander/rover starting to return pictures
I don't think I'd seen this posted here yet (always could have missed it) but China's unmanned lunar lander landed safely and released a robotic rover which is taking pictures.

This space exploration won't do much good when all of their urban population starts dying from cancer caused by their horrific pollution problem.

Very little reward for something that has been covered for some time. I would think directing scientists and engineers toward technological advancements in solving key problems in their own country would provide a more tangible morale boost.

You don't really see Russia or the USA taking the lead anymore, perhaps, China's interest in space, will act a driver for collaboration, or at least a driver for competition.
