I'm sure that would free up some friends space real quick on my list. As I'm pretty sure that the majority of the b-thumpers would not get the point. It just gets old. I can see one or two here and there, but, every single day??

I would love to post this:
"Maybe god would be able to help out the starving kids with cancer if he wasn't spending all of his time with your trivial day to day life crap..."

I cleaned up my friends list awhile back by removing anyone who posted nothing but religious and/or political comments. Its much more enjoyable now!

I'm tempted to, but, most are family members. I'm torn. On one hand I want to say something. On the other, I'm tempted to post atheist quotes. I'm sure if I did that, the 'problem' would work itself out.

JK, that's a shame. I was going to post some nice Bible scriptures on your wall.

Haha! Thanks, but, I have more than I can read from a cousin and a friend from high school that apparently connects her love of god to her relationship problems. Oh and my sister in law. And they are mundane things is what blows me away. "I tied my shoes. Praise the lord!" A bit dramatic license there on my part, but, that is the level.

Oh this reminds me of another good one. A friend of mine literally found out her Father died on Facebook. They weren't super-close and he had re-married years ago. But they were aware he was dealing with a terminal illness and preparing for it. But they found a post from his brother on Facebook one day that said something like "he is in heaven now". People actually update their Facebook status before family. Incredible.

Yeah, it didn't hit her till later on. He was on his last few weeks and had taken a turn for the worse, so she was all prepared. But still, she mentioned later on how fucked up it was to find out on Facebook and have to make a call to everyone to find out.

That is pretty much how my wife found out about her Grandma dying a couple years ago. Pretty shitty...

This was pretty funny.

This is how I view most interactions. Facebook and otherwise. Sincerity is rare.

This is the thing that makes me crazy about FB. You have to give people a disclaimer when telling them sensitive info to not put it on FB, and even then people still put shit up. It can really be a curse.

I have one serial offender on my list. My longest, oldest childhood friend who I actually lived with throughout high school got married to a woman who is dumber than a sack of potatoes. Now they have one of those joint Facebook accounts, so to get updates on my friend, I have to deal with her mind numbing hourly posts. Here are a few from the last week.

"had a dr apt today got some questions answered and some new apts made hopefully we are moving in the rite direction that we want to be in and the news and progress will be great news"

"Thanks everyone I wish i could return them its past the 30 days so i cant i tried i still have some weight to go and 90 days to do it in and i know i can do it and the weather is starting to be nice so thats good. Once i loose the last of the weight i need for my goal im going shopping"

"its almost 3 am hubby gets up soon for work and ive been working on a babyshower gift all day thought it was comming along till i hit the same hick up twice then i figured out a new ways to do it and im almost done plz shoulder hold out just little bit longer"

OK so I have a Facebook account. I have friends on Facebook. I NEVER use the damn thing....Mainly 'cause I feel kind of strange about divulging unimportant stuff to a wide audience who likely don't care. This feeling is exacerbated by the voluminous crap I see dribbling into MY facebook page all the time where my "friends" are posting their updates, and their "friends" add in their ersatz insightful responses. SERIOUSLY..I care what their friends say enough to get electronically updated on it?

So for you FB users here. Are all of my FB friends able to see all of the crap that friends of my other FB friends post on my other FB friend's pages? Can I turn that off? It is bad enough that I get updated on every update with one degree of separation, let alone twice removed trivialities.

Alas, maybe I'm not cut out for Facebook.

See even a first degree information is too much dealing with some people.

I also get tired of the constant religious posts. But what really gets me are the:

"I know you won't post this. Someone here is suffering from diabetes.......please post this in your status for one hour" stuff.

Really? Do we need to do this on a constant basis?

Let's see here, I think the answer is "it depends". Or maybe even, "no, not really".

That I'm aware of, you can control
1) Who sees anything you post.
2) Who sees anything posted to you (Friend B can/can't see what Friend A said to you on your wall).

What I don't think you can control is how much of other people's comments (once removed) that you see. That's determined by [i]their[i] settings. In other words, you can determine how private your comments are, you don't have much control over how much privacy you have from seeing other people's comments (short of blocking them individually).

They can't see it without actively looking for it, put it that way.

If their settings are such that friends of friends can see their posts, and some friends of yours are curious enough to investigate one another via your friends list, they can see that.

But as far as I know they won't see posts from your friends showing up in their news feeds.

No, your FB friends can't see what your other friends post unless they are mutual friends. And even then, the posts you're seeing might be filtered in some way. Meaning that depending on the settings of that person they can show you something and not someone else or vice versa. And this can be done by default or on an individual post basis.

Yeah - I do that. Or at least hide them individually - don't necessarily block them because what if they have something like...important to say

I ended up blocking like 90% of my friends. I texted one of them the other day -- she lives in another state -- and she replied with "oh, I guess you didn't see my FB status update. My dad died."

I felt bad, because my text was all jovial and stuff. I realized I needed to start the unblocking status party all over again, because I'd blocked too many people.

Here's a crazy diatribe I saw recently. He mostly just replied a bunch of times to his own status:

Quote:
it's like the OLD SOUTHERN ARISTOCRACY and GOOD OLD BOYS forgot about all the CONTRIBUTIONS AFRICAN AMERICAN'S MADE DOWN SOUTH when this was FARMING AND MANUFACTURING ECONOMY. THEY REPAY AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND HISPANIC KIDS WITH STRAIGHT HELL via POLICE PROFILING and CRIMINAL RECORDS.

Quote:
THE GOOD OLD BOYS ARE DETERMINED TO DESTROY A WHOLE GENERATION OF MINORITY YOUTH...AFRICAN AMERICAN AND HISPANIC...(IF THAT'S NOT TRUE) PROVE IT OTHERWISE...via disproportianate number OF MINORITIES in JAIL vs. POPULATION DEMOGRAPHICS AND CRIME RATE....

Quote:
THINK YOU ARE DOING GOD A FAVOR? HE'S ABOUT TO FORCE CHANGE ON ALL THAT...(SOUTHERN PROFILING POLICE AGENCIES)

Quote:
WE WILL FINISH THIS CIVIL WAR AND CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT PRONTO...LIKE TODAY!!!

Quote:
.'You People' (playing CARDS...RACE CARDS(join me))

Quote:
EVERY TIME I DRIVE OUT OF THIS YARD...I SEE A ROCKDALE COUNTY OR CONYERS POLICE CRUISER BEHIND A YOUNG BLACK KID FOR BULLSHIT PROBABLE CAUSE...ie. NO SEAT BELT, MAKING A TURN ON A YELLOW LIGHT, PRIOR DRUG CHARGES, TINTED WINDOWS AND RAP MUSIC...etc..(1st Amendment... i dare you to come and get me)

Quote:
NOT A TERRORISTIC THREAT...a figurative BURNING AWAY OF BAD POLICY via NATUARAL OCCURING CIRCUMSTANCE)

And then one guy posted the response that I thought was pretty funny:

I don't blame you one bit for doing that. I think we are all guilty of posting a few things on FB that can be irritating. I just try to minimize it as much as possible.
