License Problem...help needed!!!
So I bought the game when it came outand installed it and entered the license without any problems. I've been playing it pretty steadily since then.
This morning when I went to play it, I got the message "FRFOOT2004.EXE: Sorry, could not get a license at this time. Please try running this program later" Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? I don't want to uninstall and re-enter the ID number again because I know you can only do it so many times. I also emailed elicense, but I know those guys tend to take awhile to respond to their customers. Thanks for any help. Gavin |

Look in your control panel for elicense control then click in there and look for FOF2004, click in there and then rightclick the License Details and on the the top of the little popup box it will say License state. You can also unlicense by right clicking also. You can license then unlicense from there. You can do that as many times as you want as long as you do both.
I dont have any idea why its not running now since you hadnt changed anything, but I would try rebooting first.

I went into the control panel and double clicked on the elicense folder but there is nothing in there. I have no idea what could be wrong, everything worked fine last night.

Does it give you an error number like 23 or -10 when you try to run it?

ok I found this on the FAQ:
23 "Sorry, could not get a license at this time..."This error indicates a problem with the eLicense software on your computer. "...get a license" does not refer to license acquisition from the eLicense servers, it refers to the eLicensed application being unable to retrieve license data on your computer. With older versions of eLicense, this error may occur on Windows XP when using the Fast Switch feature, and the logged-on user is not the owner of the program. This error will also occur when trying to run eLicensed software via Terminal Server or Remote Desktop. You can give this a try to fix it: I need to re-install the software, what should I do about my license? The eLicense obtained and installed by your Order ID is independent of the software itself. Once you have a license, you can uninstall, re-install, etc. without any effect on the license. Sounds like your license still works just the .exe for the game isn't for some reason. I would try to reinstall, just move your league files (I am not home and I dont remember what its called) and reinstall the game and put your league files back in the folder. That or wait and see what they say. Hope this helps.

Well, I tried uninstalling the game and re-installing it, but I still get the same message. It won't let me do anything....I'm no computer expert by far, but I am running Windows ME, so maybe that could be the problem.
Thank you very much for your help & any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, but I have to head off to class this afternoon (I go to the University of Ottawa), but when I get in tonight, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything will just fix itself (somehow I don't think so though) Gavin |

sorry it didn't work Maybe somebody else has another idea, but at least when you get a hold of viatech you can tell them what you have done so far.

Bump...
I recently tried to open up my FOF2 file and it gives the same license not found (23) error. The only things different I can think of that I did was install FOF5. I uninstalled the game and everything. Still no luck.

I had that problem after installing FOF3 and FOF2 wouldn't run - Viatech sent me an updated FOF .exe and e-license .dll. I zipped them up for someone else a few months ago and they are still here - you're welcome to give that a try if you don't have any luck with Viatech.

I did manage to get the problem fixed...Viatech sent me this message.
"Hello Gavin, In order to discover why the error 23 may be arising, we need some information about your system. The attached zip file contains a tool eLic_Diagnostic7.exe. Unzip and run it at least three times. Running eLic_Diagnostic7.exe on a system creates a file C:\vtdebug.dat, containing information about the system configuration and the state of the eLicense communication. Send that file to us. After running it, test to see if there is still an error 23 message, or if the software behaves normally. " ....So after running that file, everything seemed to work just fine. I'm not sure how to put the file up here, but if you want I can email it to you? Gavin |

Thanks. I e-mailed Viatech and got the same response. Unfortunately, my e-mail clients keep stripping out the .exe they send me (hostile content, etc). I'm hoping they have it on an FTP somewhere.

Unfortunately, this is the exact reason I'll not get to enjoy FOF2004. I went through the whole e-license problem with DR, and once again have a useless product sitting on my hard drive because I can't get e-license support from them. I'd have gladly paid an extra $10 for a CD version. One bright spot, I still have the original FOF and TCY on CD, so I fire them up every now and then. I have no plans to purchase any more e-license software in the future, if it leaves me by the roadside with FOF, so be it. One bright spot, since FOF and OOTP went "e", I have much more free time available that I used to spend on text based sports sims.
