PC Classics (2nd Edition)

Today's Theme: PC Classics (2nd Edition)

Compeltely forgot to put this out yesterday. But maybe with a weekend version, some people who wouldn't normally play will get a shot. Today's has some old PC classics on it- some kindof easy, others a bit harder. Like Wednesday, I've actually not played a majority of the games but I do know of all of them. So another hodgepodge, just like the last one, only these are PC.

FYI: Standings and game list have not been updated after Wednesday but they will be after today's game.

Been too long, and I'm not for sure if it's the original, but it sure looks like it.

Well, bronze 1 is a Lara Croft game, but which? Since it is "classics", I'll go with the original "Tomb Raider".

Dang, yeah- should have thought of that. But again, like Mega Man X yesterday, I thought Tomb Raider would be too easy so it's not the original.

Yes, you can guess once per day. And, yes, that's correct so the PC Classics (2nd Edition) category is done.

Last week was a system week so this week is a theme week. We've got an NES theme later today or tomorrow and a PSX theme for Wednesday/Thursday. Then, time to test out a new game Friday and see how that goes.

Standings have been updated.

NES Baseball

Today's Theme: NES Baseball

Back when sports games weren't just about putting out a new one every year and putting a fresh coat of paint on them, there were lots of unique choices for baseball games. Here's just a small sampling of some of the more popular and unique ones for the NES. Bronze 1 was a favorite of mine, both silvers are quite good tho one more for it's uniqueness since it was kindof unbalanced, and I thought the gold was kindof fun.

There's a freebie if anyone new wants to join. Again, Friday we have a new game that I'll explain when we get there. Tomorrow's theme is PSX based.

Wow. That was quick. I remember renting that game one time when I was sick. Couldn't hit in it to save my life. The one time I was winning, it was 1-0 through about 6 innings and there was a freak power blink and my game died

I had it and liked it. A couple of friends and I set up a tourney where we drafted the teams and played to a winner. My main team was Canada- great lineup for that game.

The overwhelming majority of "old school" game critics seem to think that Baseball Sim 1.000 was the best overall package for an NES baseball game. Never played it much, myself.

Heh, now that Base Wars has been called out, I gotta say that was the most *fun* I had with an NES baseball game. When we were kids, we had great fun, but it really game into its own in college. Busted that game out and had and absolute BLAST.

Freebie 1 is not Baseball Stars but the others are correct. That said, it's a new day so you can get a new guess if you want in on the game

I remember that was being a very fun rental, but IIRC (and it's been a while), I thought that game was fairly imbalanced. For instance, the machine gunner guys could pretty much kill anyone so any non strikeout was a homer, for example.

Billy's in the game. Freebie 1 is just plain old Baseball by Nintendo. Bronze 1 is still on the board.

Today's Theme: Playstation RPGs

Definitely one of the genres that had a good showing on the original Playstation was the RPG. There lots of quality ones and they weren't just all by Squaresoft. Here's a few notable ones for the discerning eye. A couple of FMVs and some regular gameplay. Remember to name the Playstation version of the game.

Still one on the board from today but it's time to talk about tomorrow's game. It's the lamely named "Fuzzy Friday".

It's similar to the normal game in that I'll take a shot from a game and people will guess. The difference is that I'll start with a really small part of the screen. Then, a little bit later, expand out to a larger one, then a larger one, etc, until it's guessed. Everyone gets 1 guess per picture (ie you can guess after the small one then after the next one then after the larger one, etc). I think I'm going to make this worth 7 points since it should be worth more than a normal gold but not a ton. We'll see how this works out.

Fuzzy Friday
Time to try out a new game. As I said in the above post, I'll post a small portion of a screenshot and people can guess. Then I'll show a larger shot, more guesses. Larger, more guesses, etc until it's guessed. Here we go:

Had to rename the pics since you probably could have just looked at the future pics to get the name. No answer yet so here's image 2. I'm worried this could be a dead giveaway but maybe not:
