Around the NCAA Update:

We're twelve weeks in, and things couldn't be more exciting.

Auburn, Alabama, and Colorado top the BCS rankings, but the teams next two games are huge.

First of all, guess where Auburn heads next week? If you guessed Alabama, you are right! The #1 and #2 teams will face off in order to show who really is the king of college football.

Colorado is definitely excited about that, because they play the 5-5 Nebraska and then the 3-7 Tulsa to finish out their season. Those should be easy wins, and they should be the only undefeated team left at the end of the year. This is going to be very exciting.

Top 25

#1. Auburn (10-0)
#2. Alabama (10-0)
#3. Colorado (10-0)
#4. Oklahoma (9-1)
#5. USC (9-1)
#6. Texas (9-1)
#7. Miami (9-1)
#8. Arizona St. (9-1)
#9. Pittsburgh (8-1)
#10. Notre Dame (9-1)
#11. South Carolina (8-2)
#12. West Virginia (9-1)
#13. Oregon St. (8-2)
#14. Tennessee (7-3)
#15. Florida (8-3)
#16. BYU (9-1)
#17. Ohio St. (7-3)
#18. Georgia (7-3)
#19. Penn St. (9-2)
#20. Missouri (7-3)
#21. USF (8-2)
#22. Clemson (8-2)
#23. Texas Tech (8-3)

SPECIAL REPORT

I'll try and do these when a really important game is going on around the league.

As I said in my "Around the NCAA" update, #1 Auburn and #2 Alabama are playing this week in Alabama.

To top it all off, this is a big rivalry game known as "The Iron Bowl."

---

This one wasn't even close. Alabama took an early lead and never let up.

Final Score: Alabama 45, Auburn 13

We lost OLB Johnson (4*) to Texas, and G Clement (4*) to Florida St.

Final game of the regular season.

We were down 15-13 at the start of the 4th, but scored a TD to go ahead and it stayed that way.

Jefferson wasn't great, going 17 of 27 with 2 TD's and 2 INT's. Running game never got going, but we played well on defense.

Freeney picked up 2 sacks, looking for the Lombardi award. FR(RS) Page picked up another sack as well.

Final Score: Rutgers 20, Louisville 15

vs.

#1 Texas vs. #2 Oklahoma

Let me preface this with a short tidbit about the previous meeting between these two teams.

In Week 6, Oklahoma and Texas played a hell of a game against each other. After battling it out through four quarters, regulation time ended with the teams in a tie, 27-27.

Oklahoma got the ball first, and marched down the field for a touchdown. But when they kicked the extra point, it went wide!

Texas got the ball back and quickly scored a TD, then kicked the XP for the win! 34-33, Texas won.

So now we have a rematch, and Oklahoma has a chance to redeem itself.

---

Texas got out to an early lead in the 1st, going up 14-0. But in the 2nd quarter, Oklahoma struck back and scored 17 unanswered points, bringing the first half to a close at 17-14.

In the 3rd, the teams traded TD's, making the score 24-21 Oklahoma.

But the 4th quarter Texas scored a TD, and then a FG, making it 31-24 Texas. Oklahoma got the ball back and could only manage a field goal, and then never managed to get back into scoring range.

Oklahoma's QB is the one to blame. He threw 4 INT's.

Final Score: Texas 31, Oklahoma 27

2010 Recap:

I thought we did pretty well, considering it was our first year in a much tougher conference, and our first year with a new QB. Our passing game wasn't great, but should improve as we gain experience.

I think we'll finish a solid recruiting year in the off-season, and in general I think things are looking up.

Here are some stat leaders:

QB D.C. Jefferson. SO(RS). 175-294, 1811 Yards, 19 TD's-9 INT's, sacked 34 times.

RB Mason Robinson. SR. 230 Att. 961 Yards. 4.1 YPC. 6 TD's.
RB Kordell Young. SR(RS). 138 Att. 829 Yards. 6.0 YPC. 7 TD's.

WR Keith Stroud. SO(RS). 53 Receptions. 508 Yards. 9.5 YPR. 4 TD's.

OLB Manny Abreu. JR(RS). 80 Tackles.

DE Alex Silvestro. JR(RS). 9 Sacks.

FS Cody Richardson. SO. 3 INT's.

Players Leaving

What....the fuck. Cody Richardson....fuck you. Seriously.

You want to transfer again? I've started you for the past two years, have kept my promise to you. Now I need to spend MORE time to keep you around. Actually...I'm 99% sure I'll land a new FS in recruiting. So good riddance, Cody Richardson.

On top of that, SO(RS) RT Art Forst wants to leave for the draft. I'll be spending time to keep him around.

Starter

FS Cody Richardson. 6'3", 216 lbs. SO. 81 OVR - Transfer
RT Art Forst. 6'8", 290 lbs. SO(RS). 86 OVR - Pro Draft

I'm going to give in and talk to Richardson for only a few minutes. If he goes, he goes. I don't feel like dealing with this every year. Forst, on the other hand, will get a ton of time devoted to him. I need him here.

Well, after spending only 20 minutes, Richardson tells me he's looking forward to playing for us. Thanks for all the drama, Cody.

I spent 50 minutes on Forst, who is only a sophmore, and luckily he tells me he thinks he needs another year. Good thinking my man.

FS Cody Richardson. 6'3", 216 lbs. SO. 81 OVR
- Transfer (Staying)
RT Art Forst. 6'8", 290 lbs. SO(RS). 86 OVR - Pro Draft (Staying)

2011 Off-Season:

Off-Season Recruiting:

Week One:

CB Russel Mason. He soft committed to Auburn, so I made two promises to him. First, I promised that we would have a winning record against our rivals. I also promised that he wouldn't get redshirted his first year.

RB Tate, who has been soft committed for a while, was promised a winning record against our rivals.

Week Two:

Wooo!!!!! We not only stole Tate, but we also got Mason! We landed five 4* recruits this week! We also landed two 3*'s and two 1*'s.

CB Mason
ATH Archie
CB Edwards
FS McNair
FS Riley
C Ware
HB Tate
C Matthews
FB Bradley

We also added three new prospects as hopeful last minute additions.

Week Three:

No studs this time, but we land three more players.

T Yancey
ATH Hall
QB Marshall

We also made a promise to G Blalock that he wouldn't get redshirted his first year.

Week Four:

We got another 4* recruit this week, OLB Jacobs. We also landed 3* DE Dusty Williams.

We promised QB Anderson that he wouldn't be redshirted, as well.

Week Five:

Landed another 4* this week in (JUCO) ATH Scott. We also got a kicker, Collin Baker.

At the end of the week, we picked up CB Ward, QB Anderson, TE O'Brian, and G Blalock. Recruiting review coming up next.

2010/2011 Recruting Review

I'm extremely happy with our haul this year. We ended up with the #17 class in the nation! Texas Tech ranked #1. First, let's take a look at what our needs were before the season started.

Quote:
Major Needs:

Tight End: I actually need two, so this is a major need.

Left Tackle: With Anthony Davis leaving after this year, I need someone to protect my QB.

Center: My starter is graduating and his backup is still a WIP.

Minor Needs:

Fullback: Need someone here since I only have a JR and a SR at the spot right now.

Guard: Still looking for future starters, but I have a year cushion.

Free Safety: I love Richardson, but his commitment to our school scares me. I had to talk him out of transferring and ya never know if that will work next time.

Well, we didn't land any studs at TE, but we upgraded our previous 1* to a 2* and also landed a second. I'm still not happy with this position so we'll have to try again this year.

We picked up one tackle, 3* Yancey. He's a project...grades out at 72 for his freshmen year. We'll redshirt him and hope he turned into a serviceable player in a couple years.

We really needed a center, and we landed one we like in 3* Ware. We also got 1* Matthews. Ware grades out at 72 as well, so he doesn't look like anything amazing but should turn into an 83 or so starter.

We only got one FB, 1* Bradley. It's tough filling spots like this. I have a year grace period, so I have another chance this year to get someone before someone like this has to start.

I was very disappointed when we lost the solid looking guard we were chasing, but 2* Blalock looks like he could turn into something useful.

At free safety, we really nailed it. We landed two 4*'s, McNair whose initial grade is a 77 and Riley who grades out as a 75. I'm excited about these guys, and next year if Cody Richardson wants to walk, we will let him.

Here's a list of our class and their initial ratings:

CB Edwards, 4*: 80
OLB Jacobs, 4*: 80
QB Carpenter, 4*: 79
FS McNair, 4*: 77
CB Mason, 4*: 76
DE Williams, 3*: 76
FS Riley, 4*: 75
WR Archie, 4*: 74
C Ware, 3*: 72
(J) CB Ward, 3*: 72
T Yancey, 3*: 72
RB Tate, 3*: 71
(J) SS Scott, 4*: 69
QB Anderson, 3*: 67
G Blalock, 2*: 64
(W) P Austin,-: 60
TE O'Brian, 2*: 57
(J) QB Marshall, 1*: 56
FB Bradley, 1*: 56
TE Pittman, 1*: 56
DE Hall, 1*: 54
C Matthews, 1*: 53
K Baker, 1*: 40 <------Seriously?

Roster Cuts

In order to get down to 70 players, we had to cut 9 players. I don't like cutting recruits that just got on the team, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

FS Vaughn. FR(RS). 63 OVR

2011 Pre-Season Notes
Returning Starters:

13 (6 Offense, 7 Defense)

Key Losses:

RB Young/Robinson

This was a tandem we could rely upon. I'm not worried at all about their replacements, but these were two solid players.

TE Graves

It's not that Graves was a spectacular player, it's just that we have a horrible situation at TE right now. We'll miss this reliable pass-catcher and blocker.

LT Davis

This guy was the real deal. He was the anchor of our line, the veteran presence. We sure will miss him.

DE Freeney/Silvestro

We lose both of our starting DE's. I like our future at the spot but Freeney was a 2nd team All-American and Silvestro was always a solid player.

P Dellaganna

We have a walk-on replacing him. 'Nuff said.

Absolutely can't wait to see Mills as the feature back. He did very good in the limited number of carries he had last year. Mitchell should be good enough for now as a #2 back, but he hasn't lived up to his expectations.

Quick confession.

Since I'm essentially writing all of this stuff down into a notebook by hand, then typing it back up in the forum, I just enter the new recruits and update the players OVR rating. I don't update weights (if they even change?) and update their year just by hand. If he was a FR(RS) last year, I move him to SO(RS).

However, I just realized that leads to a problem once in a while. This was the first time it happened, I think. Basically, I didn't realize that the game will automatically redshirt players that are eligible if they didn't play at all. I knew this happened in real life, but it wasn't something I thought NCAA did.

Anyway, what this has led to was what we see with DE Silvestro. When I first wrote out my first-year depth chart, let's say he was a SO. Each year, I've been upping him one year, first to JR, then last year to SR. However, that first year he must not have played a down, so the game redshirted him.

That's why this whole time I thought Silvestro was leaving, but is still on my team! I'll pay more attention to "low on the depth-chart" players that aren't redshirted so this doesn't happen again.

Sorry for the long post and confusion!

Why did you leave the Big East? Just to make it more challenging? Or do you think it'll lead to better recruiting down the line? I guess it'd be easier to win that league and get the automatic bid to the BCS each year, if you could get dominant.

I was just messing around and saw this on a whim. Nice work.

I have two brand new starters this year, and last year's are still on the team. That's always a good sign that we've upgraded. The fact that this is the first time either has seen college football action first-hand is another sign we upgraded, but that could be worrisome as well. They both look solid though, and if they can handle the pressure and deal with the nerves, this group is looking great.

Thanks.

First, I think it will lead to better to recruiting. I might struggle for a year or two (like I did already ), but I think this year's recruiting class was a sign it paid off.

Then, the solid recruiting will lead to better teams. Winning in the ACC is more favorably looked upon than winning in the Big East.

Plus like you said, if I can get to the top, I get to the BCS.

Basically, I thought it could hurt me short-term record-wise, but help me long-term with better recruiting.

I can finally stop worrying about Richardson ditching us. Go ahead Cody, I dare you. McNair and Riley will battle it out for the future starting job, but it's still Cody's job for now. At SS, Carter doesn't look amazing but can get the job done. Scott should be interesting. He was a JUCO athlete we recruited. I'm hoping a year learning the position could turn him into a serviceable player. If he improves enough, he may have a starting job for a year when Carter leaves.

#3 Marcus Austin. 6'0", 188 lbs. FR. 66 OVR

Outlook:

Well, I'm down to the end with Te. After trying to recruit a kicker and having show up to campus unable to make the easiest of kicks (rated a 40 OVR), we'll have to try again this year. Austin is a walk-on, so I'll try and upgrade yet again this year.

Pipeline:

Our pipeline states are NJ, NY, PA, and FL.

Major Needs:

Fullback: Once again, we'll be looking for a fullback. We really need one this time.

Wide Receiver: Last year we skimped here, but we'll have a lot of guys getting ready to leave at the same time. Now is the time to get at least one solid new guy in here to groom for the future.

Tight End: This could be our biggest need. Our starter is rated a 57.

Guard: Our interior depth is just plain terrible. I'd like to get a future starter and maybe a solid JUCO for depth.

Tackle: Our two starter's are a JR and SR, and the two guys developing beneath them aren't sure things. I'd love to get a great run blocker.

Kicker: Definitely in need of one after the fiasco last recruiting season.

Punter: With a walk on punting for us, I'd like to get someone who didn't come in off the streets.

Minor Needs:

Defensive Tackle: I love our guys there now, but I'd love to get a guy to groom under Vallone.

Defensive End: Not a huge need, but I'd love to get a sack-machine to go along with Page.
Middle Linebacker: I haven't had a great player here yet. Our two OLB's are great and the future looks good there, but I need a speedy tackler to put in between them.

Strong Safety: Scott is a project and I'd like more of a sure thing.

Long-Term:

Running Back: I know our two new guys just took over, but I love to get replacements when the starters are sophomores. That way, the new guy can redshirt, backup as a freshmen, and then start as a sophomore. Rinse, repeat.

Quarterback: Same deal as above, but this time I'm just looking for a backup.

2011 Week One:

Recruiting:

Here we go. Another year of ups and down, soft-commits and betrayal! I already have a bad feeling. I've never filled my board with 35. But this year, I felt like I had to. Maybe it's a good thing since more people are interested in me, but I get the feeling that I'm going to waste time on a lot of them.

Well, let's get this party started.

The first thing I did this week was offer a scholarship to everyone who had me listed as their #1.

I was glad to see 4* G Matt Johnson already wanting to visit. I found three of his interests and set him up to visit Week 1 when we play Syracuse.

Still don't have a tried and true method to recruiting, but this first week I offered a scholarship to the top player at each position.

I spent the remaining time talking briefly to all of the 4* or better recruits left.

I expected this one to be tough but we pulled out the victory.

First off, Mills had another great game with 156 yards and 2 TD's on the ground. WR Wright is really stepping up his game, catching 7 balls for 88 yards and a TD.

Also, our center Ray gave up no sacks today!

On defense, we had 6 sacks. Two came from DE Wynn. One came from our freshman CB Edwards, and he also had an INT.

Final Score: Rutgers 29, NC State 19

Phew. This one was closer than it looks. We scored 22 in the 4th, with one of the scores being an INT return by Cody Richardson.

It was pretty uneventful though. Mills has 141 yards rushing, Mitchell did well on 7 carries picking up 41 yards. Jefferson was inaccurate but didn't turn the ball over.

Noooo!!!! What a game! That was heartbreaking. There was over 100 points scored in this game. We were ahead by 4, and VT came back and scored a TD with 2 minutes left in the game.

Jefferson threw for 4 TD's. Mills ran for 166 yards on 22 carries and had 2 TD's. CB Edwards ran back a kickoff for a touchdown. Man...I was so close. Hopefully those visiting recruits like offensive shootouts.

Final Score: Virginia Tech 52, Rutgers 49

Just an all-around good game from us.

I would, but what I've found is that players lose speed, which doesn't really make sense. I'll try it out though.
