The Fab Five all score in double digits. I believe this is the first time that has ever happened, but I could be wrong. Code:

Unfortunately, I have already simmed through to the end, so I can't give a current stats upodate. Next season, I'll save the stats at various points so that won't happen.

Conference Tourney
Last year we played at peak form and thoroughly dominated the conference tourney. It wasn't much different this year. In Round 1, we continue to take out revenge on Houston fore that embarassing regular season defeat from last year, with an easy 94-62 victory (in a game where Provost and Nielsen were the leading scorers). In Round 2, we destroyed UTEP 85-54, led by Danny Wilson's 21 points and 19 rebounds. The Conference Championship was another blowout, as we ripped through Southern Methodist for a 79-49 victory, once again led by another great Danny WIlson performance (16 pts., 15 rebounds). Thus, we won our third straight conference title and earn a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney. Code:

Round 1 American vs. Central Florida Of course, we received the #1 seed this year and face #16 American in the first round. After running to an early 13-1 lead, American was able to get as close as 3 before falling behind 38-30 at the half. We pulled away int he 2nd half, but American fought hard and didn't let us completely roll over them like other teams did. Wilson and Moungey dominated inside and helped opffset a poor shooting night from Bright. Code:

Round 2 #1 Central Florida vs. #9 Oklahoma Oklahoma was able to hang with us for one half, but they were put away quickly in the 2nd half. Danny Wilson dominated inside and Vincent Bright dominated outside, helping to make up for an abysmal shooting night from Rob Nielsen and an early foul out from Justin Provost. Code:

Sweet 16 #1 Central Florida vs. #5 Connecticut We struggled with ball handling early in this one as Connecticut took a quick 9-3 lead and still led 41-39 at halftime. With 15 minutes left, Connecticut still held a narrow 52-51 lead. This is when we took charge. Our suffocating defense created numerous turnovers and led us on a 27-11 run over the next 10 minutes. We then coasted for the victory. Code:

Elite Eight #1 Central Florida vs. #3 Wisconsin-Milwaukee We ran into some trouble in this one. Despite us holding a 49-44 lead at the half, Wisconsin-Milwaukee did not plan to fall apart in the 2nd half like the rest of our opponents did. In fact, they just turned their game up to a new level. They made up the turnover ratio with precision shooting and a strong rebounding edge. With 9:27 left, we were down 68-61. Definitely the biggest scare we've had in the tourney so far. We fought back but were still down by 4 (70-66) with 5:17 left. A 3 pt play from Moungey and a nice pass from Provost to Wilson brought us within one point at 72-71. Wisconsin-Milwaukee can't score on their next two trips, but we only manage to hit one of four free throws which ties the game at 72 with 1:49 left. After trading scores, it is 74-74 with 1:37 left. This is when Vincent Bright fouls out of the game. Yikes. Trading scores one more time has it tied with 49 seconds left. Nielsen comes up with a huge block on Wisconsin-Milwaukee's next drive. With 8 seconds left, Backup SG Howard George is fouled. Unfortunately, he misses BOTH free throws. Nielsen comes up big with an offensive rebound, but misses the put back shot and we head to overtime. No one scores for the first three minutes of overtime. Finally, Moungey hits three out of four free throws on consecutive trips to give us a 3 pt lead with 1:59 left. After the lead is cut to 2, Nielsen comes up with a huge steal and returns it all the way for a dunk, giving us a 4 pt lead with 1:34 left. Wisconsin-Milwaukee closes it to 1 and has the ball with 44 seconds left. However, they make a fatal error by not even getting a shot off! This gives us the ball with 7 seconds left and a 1 pt lead. However, we can only make 1 of the two free throws. Milwaukee PG Dennis Gomez is able to penetrate inside and hits a shot at the buzzer to send us to a 2nd overtime. There's not much to write about for the 2nd overtime. Wisconsin-Milwaukee clearly didn't have anything left. We scored the first 15 points, mostly off of turnovers, to take a 97-82 lead with 2:31 left. They did give us quite a scare, but we are still headed for a repeat appearance in the final four!. Code:

Breaking News!!!!!
There are reports coming out of Orlando, Florida that Central Florida will be without one if it's all star players for the final four due to an academic suspension. We have not yet learned who this player might be, but it could spell doom for the Golden Knights chances of defending their national title.

It was confirmed earlier today that the suspended player is Golden Knights Center Danny Wilson. This is quite a blow to the team as Wilson had been playing particularly well over the last month, including scoring 75 points and 43 rebounds through the first 4 games of the tournament. It is expected that Tim Moungey will take over at Center and backup George Mayne will fill Moungey's spot at PF.

The Final Four #1 Central Florida vs. #2 Hawaii Tim Moungey struggled in replacement of Danny Wilson, only playing 17 minutes due to constant foul trouble. George Mayne didn't fare much better. The lack of an inside game clearly hurt us and kept Hawaii in the game late. We only held a narrow 59-57 lead with 11:54 left in the game. But as has been the story for us most of the season, our opponent just couldn't hang on long enough. A 14-3 run gave us a cushion that we wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the game. The player who really stepped up in Wilson's absence was Rob Nielsen, putting together one of the best games of his career, with a 23pt, 15 rebound performance. Code:

Championship Game St. Bonaventure vs. Central Florida No problems with our inside game in this one as Tim Moungey scored 20 pts. and pulled in 13 rebounds. Nielsen had another strong overall game, Bright put up 34 pts., and Provost had 9 assists and no turnovers. With those numbers, you may have guessed it wasn't even close. And it wasn't. With only a 17-13 lead midway through the first half, we outscored St. Bonaventure 26-13 the rest of the half to put up a lead that we wouldn't relinquish. This ended up being a massacre. Tear down the nets again, boys! The Golden Knights have won back to back championships! Code:

Leave Billy Boy Scott to me. I don't rack up the fouls and still manage to play shut down defense for nothing. He's a dead man.
And while we're at it, we need to play Cincy as well. I have a message for that gimp of a small forward. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 01-04-2006 at 10:11 PM. |
