COVID-19 - 3/16 - Poll #3 - Looking at your Investments?

Are you looking or not looking at your investment portfolios the past couple weeks? I know I agreed with someone else on not looking so there is 2 of us at least. I suspect there is more though that avoid looking.

I have a smallish amount of debt instead of investments, so it's not a concern for me (other than trying not to add to said debt).

I luckily had gotten out a few weeks ago before going on our Disney Cruise just because I didn't like my limited access options. I unluckily have been buying in over the last 1.5 weeks.

Down almost 175K but started from a good place. Long story short my wife changed jobs 4 years ago., She was able to immediately convert her unvested employee options, several years worth, and we cashed them all out and reinvested so we started several years ahead. Still stings to look at but I know its going to rebound.

I am generally against trying to time the market, but have been pretty hands-on here.

Mostly not looking.

What's the point?

I put trout, I have investments but I mostly ignore the market. I've seen it go up and down enough over my time that I assume it will have another up cycle before I need to care (I'm 42, can't see retiring before 60, so that's close to 20 years). Trust in dollar-cost-averaging, or whatever.

I got pretty lucky (I think). I moved more than half of my mutual fund money into money markets on the two dead cat bounces last week.

My brother in law is Jamie Dimons right hand man. VERY high up at JP Morgan Chase. Bloomberg Monthly recently did a feature article on him. Happy to DM the link to anyone that may want it. He told me today the 1K they are discussing would be a great thing for America, and there could be no economy to come back to and that looting could happen. He also thinks they need to give mortgage relief as well.

I am surprised that 12/20 or 60% have the druthers to check their investment accounts. Kudos to you.

In the meantime, I'll oil my guns and count my bullets in case there is (limited) societal breakdown, looting etc.

If this $1K show to work somewhat, it'll set the precedence and argument for send the money directly to people vs tax cuts.
