Start Year

Is it possible to change the start year from 2018 to 1961 or whatever else year? If so, how? Id rather build history from 1961 to present than starting out in 2018 and start playing in 2050.

Was looking for just this question. I guess the answer is no. Too bad. Would have loved to start a league in 1918, build history till 2000 or so and take over. I couldn't care less if the salary in 1918 and the number of teams is the same as today...was just looking to build back history and am tired of playing in the 2100's and would like to possibly even start the league in 1800 and take over in 1900. I was going to call it the "Alternate Universe NFL"

Just from memory, if you start a new league from a player file, I seem to recall setting a start year in that process - either embedded in the file, or as an in-game option. It's been a long time, so this might be from a previous iteration of the game -- but I think there is a way to do this.

I did find a player file generator that has an option. I'll give that a try as well. Thanks.

IIRC, this file will let you start a league back in the 1980s... was created by someone else and shared either here or directly with me, so I can't explain how it got created.

Attention Required! | Cloudflare

It's a file with empty rosters, basically, allowing the league to start from scratch, more or less. At the very least you could start there and sim to "today" and generate some decades of history... at least I think that's what this would do.

Use the player file generator and pick your year there. You can generate a league with all shitty players, just like the 1940's!

1980's is better than 2016, at least as far as generating history. The player file generator didn't seem to work, or maybe I just need to figure out how to use it. Whenever I set the year and clicked the button it told me it could not open the .csv.

Thanks.

Dude, players from that period through the 70's and 80's were real players, some having played with broken legs, missing teeth, really nothing for money. Back then you could actually hit someone, not the two handed touch they play today!

So in FOF8 where is the Player File Generator? After owning it since first released I am about to finally try it out. But starting in 2016 or later is a no go.

So I tried that file and immediately simmed 35 years. When it came out the next off season every team had 30-35 players and it was difficult to sign people because the min salary was $750K but the max I could offer was around $100-200K (i was over the cap with ~46 players)....so in summary the salary cap vs the salaries is way off and makes it difficult to field teams.

The salary cap counts the 51 most expensive players in the team, therefore if you are over the cap with 46, you can't sign new players until you do something about it.

If you are talking about the AI miss managing the cap, you are absolutely correct, the AI is awful at team building. You will get the best experience out of this game by playing online against other GMs.
