Wondering if they made an announcement about what they intend to do. You just don't shit out $2.5 billion with no plan, do you ?

I have to say this was met with a somber attitude in my house today.

I wonder if this is as much about Realms as anything else? Or if there are more platforms to be explored?

The only thing Microsoft is looking to do is enhance their mobile offerings. It's going to continue much the same on PC and consoles.

I think it was the right call by Notch. Minecraft and Mojang have gotten way bigger than he could manage. Microsoft adds the 3rd best selling game of all time to their portfolio and its something that will probably sell well enough on name brand alone to justify the acquisition.

You start with nothing, and have to go out and obtain materials first to survive and then later to use your creativity to build things. Once you become established, you will have the ability to explore the world more readily and gather more and better goods (and once you find a village, trade them). But be careful, because you always run the risk of being shot at or blown up. It is best to stay in lighted areas, so bring plenty of torches.

This is a very good description. One thing I would add is that this is not a RPG at its purist, its a sandbox with a blank canvas as to what you want to do. There are no goals, no quests, etc other than ones you make for yourself. If you enjoy games where you get to build stuff, you probably will like Minecraft. I do not, and I'm not an open sandbox fan either, so I only play it once in a while usually after I see a YouTube video where they are doing something cool/fun.

If you want more from your experience there are a zillion mods out there that can turn the game into more of a RPG. Check out places like FORGE for up to date mods they include with their Minecraft Launcher.

Yeah, Minecraft can drag if you don't have some sort of building goal in mind. Or just an affinity for minless digging. But if you do have some sort of goal - a town, an elaborate castle, a giant monument, a system of tunnels, terraforming (leveling) large tracts of land, building successive levels of platforms in the nether :whistles:, you can be occupied for hours, days, etc. It's what you choose to make of it, really.

Why does the Nether need platforms?

well you can play easily on either console or PC. I don't have a console, but from videos I've seen its much more "user friendly" to newbs on them. You get no help on PC sadly. Take a look at this series of videos for a nice tutorial on the game, it runs all the way through to the end game. Ah yes forgot to mention there is a way to "win" the game, by finding the Ender Dragon and killing him.

Saw a headline referencing minecraft skins carrying viruses, so yeah it might be a good idea to clean these posts up.

I would strongly discourage from clicking on the links at all. Not that I don't trust Chiku and his life partner Rahul.

Only sort of Minecraft related.

I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure that this entire home was made based off of a Minecraft build. I looks exactly like what you'd build in the game. And only 3.25M.
