Childhood favorite: Star Blazers remade as Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199

Page not found | STARBLAZERS.COM

Just found out that SyFy channel is airing two episodes of Star Blazers at midnight each Thursday. It's one of the most fondly remembered shows from my childhood. Interested to see if it holds up for me as an adult. I know there is a lot of stuff that probably looks silly to modern viewers, but as a kid, it was just riveting.

Here's an article from Wikipedia on the show:

Star Blazers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

List of Star Blazers episodes - Wikipedia

Anyhow, thought I'd share in case there was anyone else who had fond childhood memories of this show. I think if they gave it the Battlestar treatment (modernized, made grittier), it could be a successful series today.

Yeah, remember really enjoying it as it got my imagination going. Also remember I never saw the end of it.

Holy schnikees! A live action movie! It was released in Japan in 2011, supposed to come to the U.S. at some point.

I saw something similar to this about two years ago. Noticed the coming in 2011, so it is probably the same 'trailer' that I saw.

Looks like they are doing a new version of the TV show as well. This is the show I most fondly remember from my childhood. VERY excited.

One of my favorites as a kid as well. Bought the collection on DVD a few years ago. Have watched the whole series twice since then. Never gets old.

Star Blazers 2199 supposed to be getting an English dub. This is a fan video that uses original audio from Star Blazers.

I loved that show. It used to move around on the tv schedule. Pre- internet I remember it just disappearing one day and I had no way of finding out what happened.

I loved the theme song for this show. I still have it memorized. I watched through this whole series with my 13 year old a year or two ago.

Sorry! Something went wrong!

Star Blazers 2199 is now available in blu-ray or streaming formats on Amazon. It has both the English dub and the original Japanese dialog with subtitles. It sounds like it's been given the Battlestar Galactica treatment in making it darker than the original series. So psyched! I'm going to try introducing it to my son, who is almost 14 now.

Thanks for the heads up. I remember watching some episodes but wasn't consistent and never saw how it ended. A little too pricey for me on Amazon though.
