I saw that panel at PAX South with sterlingice and another friend. We all came away unimpressed. In fairness, this type of game wouldn't normally be for me, though.

Also, Sid clearing his throat repeatedly drove me bonkers.

In related PAX South news, here were 4 indie video games I was keen on:

The Gordian Knot: The Gordian Knot | Mobile Game | 2D Puzzle Platformer fun, relaxing music, and I could see playing it a lot and trying to get all the 3-stars, all the rewards.

Starr Mazer: Starr Mazer by Imagos Softworks — Kickstarter it's about halfway through it's Kickstarter (funding-wise), I really hope it makes it (I backed it). Looks like a fun side-scrolling shooter and a point and click combo. The developer was funny.

Guild of Dungeoneering: Guild of Dungeoneering - a game by Gambrinous SI and I played this a bit. Build the dungeon and see if you can get your guy to the end. It might get old, but I had fun.

Knight Squad: Knight Squad multiplayer mini-games including soccer with knights. Hysterical and fun.

I also liked The Shroud of the Avatar (Shroud of the Avatar) but even though it was pitched as an indie game, it really wasn't... kind of like a spiritual sequel to Ultima.

So, for my son's 6th birthday, I picked up Disney Infinity 2.0 for the XBox One. I got him the starter set (Marvel), a couple extra figures (Stitch, Rocket Raccoon, Hulk and Captain America) and a playset of Spiderman/Nova. Is this solid or am I missing something I should get him?

More Sid Meir Starships news.

Sid Meier’s Starships: First Gameplay Footage - SpaceSector.com
Quote:
It’s confirmed not to be a large-scale empire-builder type of game but one more focused on ships, customizing and preparing them for battle, turn-based space combat and missions.

Technology progression seems to be reduced in scope to ship improvements only, which one can unlock as one time purchases. Diplomacy seems to be lighter than what one may see in large space 4X games. There doesn’t seem to be any colony-building aspects and expanding seems to be achieved only by annexation by sheer power of influence than having to colonize or conquer existing empires. But, this is only my best guess at the moment as the footage was not too detailed regarding those aspects.

The Battlefield Hardline open beta is available on most platforms. On the Xbox One is it a hefty 10GB download. It runs through this weekend.

Brutal interview of Peter Molyneux at RPS. Probably over the top, but something the games industry needed to happen. Games journalists usually walk on eggshells with these guys and paint everything in a positive light. Credit to Molyneux for not stopping the interview.

Molyneux is a hot mess at this point. It's a special person that can turn a PR nightmare into a bigger PR nightmare.

Youtubers that have advanced copies of The Order: 1886 are reporting 6-8 hours to finish with roughly 3 of those hours being cutscenes. Also no new game+ or any other reason to do a 2nd playthrough.

Well shit the Order was my last great hope for a game this year to come up that I would care to play on this new PS4 which I picked up for my kids who frankly would rather play games on their iPad . This thing is quickly becoming a glorified bluray player. Geez no wonder I have started to gravitate to board games and the like over the last five years.

I'm pretty sure quality is inversely related to advertising exposure. I might miss the first week or two of something like Fallout 3, but in general I can save a lot of money by not buying the most advertised games.

Might be one of the biggest flops in a while.
Also not too good news for Sony as it was the big exclusive title some of us were waiting on.

Al did you get the MLB Show last year? I might pick that one up as the Sox were on top the previous season so they would have a fun team to play.

Yet another AAA title with major problems on release. People are making a big fuss on the current gen about the lack of games. The real problem here is that the AAA titles (both existing franchises and new ones) are coming out time and time again with a ton of bugs.

They really need to focus on quality or they're going to push people to the point where $60 releases are something that people don't even consider buying. They're so focused on a full plan of game -> patch -> multiple DLC that they've totally lost focus on just making a good game on release. It's the reason the independent gaming segment has become popular. Often, the indie games are more polished in beta than AAA console titles are on release.

I totally agree. Currently no way no how I am paying $60 unless it has a ton of reviews from reputable honest reviewers first. Preorder no chance.

Feel bad for fans of some.. newer teams. Red Sox are represented by the Splendid Splinter, and the Marlins are represented by.. Cliff Floyd. Yeah.

I think I'm mostly just annoyed that the AL East got more players who began their careers pre-1950 than the entire National League combined.

Yeah, you can quibble over Berra versus Ruth or Gehrig or another Yankee legend, but the Yanks and Red Sox got Golden Age alums for their teams and the NL got players from the 70s and 80s, by and large.

Will Clark or Christy Mathewson? Hmmm... gotta be Clark!

The whole Orel Hershiser over Jackie Robinson seems like a massive missed opportunity as well.

Though I think your ire for the Yankees is slightly misplaced - Berra career started at the same time as Kiner's and played in the same seasons as Banks for many years. It's really the Red Sox who got the special treatment.

It's not really Yankee ire so much as that Berra, like Splinter, began his career pre-1950. The entire NL has ONE player who can make that claim, but the AL East got two all by its lonesome.

Hershiser was one of my favorites growing up, and having him in a contemporary game (especially if the ratings are based on 1988) will be pretty great, but yeah. I would have gone for Robinson or Koufax over Hershiser if all three were equally available.

Pre-1950 by all of 4 years . It's reaching.

I mean, seriously, of all the Yankee greats, they pick Berra. I mean that should excuse his 4 seasons of playing prior to 1950.

Heck, they could have taken a far better player who started his career in 1951 - Mickey Mantle, so I'm not necessarily getting the Yankees got a "Golden Age" player ire.

Anyone else given Hand Of Fate a try? Seems like it would be a hit in these parts, part deck-building pseudo-board game, and part roguelike. It's pretty fun a few hours in, but I don't think I've hit the meat of the game yet, as it's been ridiculously easy, and it's still introducing me to game mechanics.

I remember Jesse Cox having some really good things to say about it during early access and I'm looking forward to trying it out, but I've just got too many other things I'm playing right now to get it right now.

Let's be realistic here. They didn't necessarily pick these players on who they thought was the best player on that team ever. Some of these players, even the dead ones, command big dollars in licensing rights from their heirs even now. That undoubtedly plays into the selection.

I picked up a copy of Rocksmith 2014 back in January, and ordered an electric guitar with some of my credit card points I had saved up. The first guitar came in damaged, likely from the factory. The replacement guitar finally showed up today. Got a bit of time in with it tonight, and am learning Blitzkrieg Bop. I'd never had any kind of guitar lessons before, so this will be a whole new experience.
