Rudy

I was just watching Rudy and I noticed Vince Vaughn has a cameo and Jon Favreu has a prominent role. I never noticed that before, I wonder if they met there.

Also, anyone know what year it takes place? They make a reference to the superbowl and I was wondering about the accuracy of it.

How you get so rude and reckless
Don't you be so crude and feckless
You've been drinking brew for breakfast
Rudy Can't Fail

I know that my life makes you nervous
But I tell you I can't live in service
Like a doctor born for a purpose
Rudy Can't fail

I went to the mar ket to realize my soul
What I need I just don't have
First they cursed then they press me till I hurt(they say)
Rudy Can't fail

Here them saying.....

First you must cure your temper
Then find a job in the paper
You need someone for a savior
Rudy can't fail

We Reply....

Now we get so rude and a reckless
we been seen looking cool an'a speckless
we been drinking brew for breakfast
so Rudy can't fail

with main rythm
okay so where you want to go today
hey boss man

you're looking pretty smart in your chicken skin suit
you think you're pretty hot
in your pork pie hat
but...rudy can't fail
look out, look out
sky juice 10 cents a bottle
You're looking pretty sharp in your chicken skin suit
you think you're pretty hot, you won't find out

Rudy can't fail

How funny you mention that, I discovered that yesterday while researching other films. When I saw this thread I came in here to post that fact

that always bugs me. its not a cameo. a cameo is a very small role done by a celebrity at the time.

vince vaughn had a small role, and was just starting out. its not like everyone watching in 1994 went, "dude! vince vaughn!"

sorry. had to say it.

No, he was Jamie O'Hara, the player that was really talented as a Freshman, but had a terrible work ethic. He got on Rudy's case early on and Ara chewed him out once when he bitched about Rudy hitting him hard. At the end, he changes the play tyo a halfback option pass (instead of running out the clock) so Rudy will have a chance to get on the field.

Rudy's on a train to nowhere, halfway down the line
He don't wanna get there, but he needs time
He ain't sophisticated, nor well-educated
After all the hours he wasted, still he needs time.
He needs time - he needs time for livin',
He needs time - for someone just to see him.
He ain't had no lovin'
For no reason or rhyme
And the whole world's above him.
Well it's not as though he's fat-
No there's more to this than that-
See he tries to play it cool-
Wouldn't be nobodys fool.

Rudy thought that all good things comes to those that wait
But recently he could see that it may come too late.

All through your life, all through the years
Nobody loved, nobody cared.
So dim the light, dark are your fears
Try as I might, I can't hold back the tears
How can you live without love, it's not fair?
Someone said give but I just didn't dare.
What good advice are you waiting to hear?
Hearing's alright for them that's all there
You'd better gain control now
You'd better show'em all now
You'd better make or break now
You'd better give and take now
You'll have to push and shove now
You'll have to find some love now
You'd better gain control now.
Now he's just come out the movie.
Numb of all the pain,
Sad but in a while he'll soon be
back on his train...

Actually, I wouldn't even consider it a cameo if Vince Vaughn was a celebrity at the time. It's not a huge role, but his character has several scenes throughout the movie, and even has his own little story arc. Certainly more than a cameo, which is generally just one or two scenes.
