FOF 2004 Question - Stopping the Run

How do you set up a defense to stop the run in FOF 2004?

I have a mediocre DL, decent LBs and a very good secondary. I'd like to set it up to put "8 in the box" so my team isn't getting trucked on a weekly basis.

I've turned down my double cover WR pecentages to about 25% for the primary WR and 5% for the second one. My aggressive run percentage is all the way at 100%. What else can I do to stop the run?

My best team at stopping the run had a monster NT that did most of the work. But if you have a mediocre DL and only decent LBs, you may never stop the run. Have you tried setting the "expect run" percentages higher?

Trade your first pick for a monstrous DT

WITHOUT roster changes, guys. How can you set up the gameplan to stack against the run?

My third sentence was a question / suggestion for the gameplan.

And your third sentence was also going to be my suggestion, so I figured you had it covered.

Other than that, with "medicore" DL & "decent" LB's, I haven't come across a way to stop the run consistently. (And even then, my successes have been more due to talent than gameplanning).

You can IMPROVE your run defense a bit through gameplanning, but consistently stopping the run will require better personnel.

You might try a 4-2-5 (put your best tackling safety in a LB spot in the 4-3). I have done it on occasions.

I would say that if you really want to stop the run, don't JUST increase you run expectance numbers. Also, put your 'aggressive run defense' number higher, and your 'aggressive pass defense' lower. IMO, those numbers are more important -- I think it's not a big deal if you're expecting run or pass, but if you REALLY want to stop the run, you have to be aggressive about it.
