Interesting article about possible military action against Iran
And it's not about a US strike...

If Israel provokes a war in the middle east then we need to sanction them as hard as we do other countries who do the same.

They wouldn't do it without our "permission". Then they're just really doing our dirty work. Or are you seriously trying to compare Israel attacking Iran to Iraq attacking Kuwait? If not, what other "sanctions" are you talking about? |

I don't have any problem with Israel doing this. They don't have a choice.

I'm skeptical of any conventional action against Iran happening in 2008, and I have been pretty ruthless in mocking Hersh and his fans for sounding the alarm every couple of months. Could there be some kind of covert ops, sure. Renewed diplomatic efforts with new US and Israeli administrations, sure. The kind of action described there doesn't really make sense to me, though.

I did not know they were a province of the United States, why do they need our permission? We need to stop giving aide to them for trying to stir up the hornets nest that is the middle east. The last thing our country needs is another military conflict where the rest of the world would not be on our side.

I don't know if anyone here reads Stratfor, but they've covered this topic fairly well. It seems unlikely a strike is actually going to happen at this point, the fact that they're telegraphing it suggest some sort of diplomacy move. My understanding is that destroying the facilities is mostly meaningless. In order to disrupt a nuclear program it's the personnel and their expertise that needs to be destroyed. That means it would need to be a surprise strike during the day to maximize casualties.
If we're hearing about preparations for a strike there likely isn't one in the works. Still, certainly Israel is going to maintain the ability to pull of a strike if necessary. |

This I REALLY don't get - you always have a choice when deciding to go to war. Or to put this another way - would you condone Iran attacking Israel because "they don't have a choice" and they 'know' that Israel is likely to attack them? |

I understand where you are coming from, and I do not believe that a strike on Iran is necessary at this juncture. But I can also understand being paranoid about a country getting nuclear weapons that publicly insists, not only shouldn't you exist, but that your nation should be forceably destroyed. Sometimes you are paranoid because they really are out to get you. |
