RIP Don Sutton

Firmer Dodger great and long time voice of Atlanta Braves baseball. I will admit I audibly wept.

Geez... I just read an article a few weeks ago, I think from 538, about how you could field a great team of players from the guys that passed away in 2020.

RIP.

I caught this from the ESPN Article:

Quote:
After going 23-7 during one season in the minors, Sutton won a spot in the Dodgers' rotation in 1966. He made his big-league debut for the defending World Series champions on April 14, 1966, and earned his first victory four days later.

I looked on BBREF and it says he pitched 249 innings and 24 complete games between A and AA ball in 1965!!!

That was his first and only full season in the minors (looks like he made two more a few years later).

and then, again, from the ESPN article:

Quote:
The durable Sutton never missed a turn in the rotation in 756 big league starts. Only Cy Young and Nolan Ryan made more starts than Sutton, who never landed on the injured list.

Hall of Fame pitcher Don Sutton dies at 75

Well damn. I knew him more when he was with the California Angels, even though he only played with them for a short time and didn't realize later that he had came up and spent most of his career with the D words.

I first remembered him as a Brewer, but he will always be known as a Dodgers Iron Horse. RIP
