Create an NHL Superstar
Back to me being bored, and back to creating a Superstar. We will start as 19 year olds with the highest potential (125). We are going to start as Free Agents shortly before the 08-09 season using the freeware Eastside Hockey Manager (the game that SI bought the rights to and butchered).
We will start as good young talent, and should find our way onto most teams starting line-ups, at least in the second or third lines. Some of you may be lucky enough to play on Line 1 others may miss out completely and find themselves on the bench. You can request trades, new contracts, etc. Which I will explain once it all kicks off. If you don't want to fill out the whole form then just fill out the Part 1 section and the game will automatically create a random set of skills. This is discouraged however if you are anything but a D or G, as the computer won't take into account the type of player you are (see 'Player Type' form question). Part 1 Name: Birth Day/Month: Left/Right Handed: Position: (Left Wing, Right Wing, Center, Defense, Goalie) Player Type: (1 - Sniper (defensive defenceman), 2 - Playmaker (defensive defenceman), 3 - All-around offensive player (defensive defenceman), 4 - Grinder / Power Forward (defensive defenceman), 5 - Two-Way forward (defensive defenceman), 6 - Defensive defenceman (positioning and defensive smarts) (all around forward), 7 - Physical defenceman (all around forward), 8 - Offensive defenceman (all around forward), 9 - Character player (forward or defence), 0 - Goon/Enforcer (forward or defence)) (The terms in brackets are the alternate, so if you are a Forward and you select Offensive defenceman you will be classified as an All around Forward). Click: (Just pick a number between 0-9, if you share the same number as another teammate you will play better together) Nationality: (limited to US, CAN, SWE, FIN, NOR, RUS, CZK or Other) Height: (in feet and inches, between 5 10 and 6 10) Weight: (in pounds, between 150 and 280) Part 2a - Skaters Only (Divide 650 between the following) Shooting: Playmaking: Stickhandling: Checking: Positioning: Hitting: Skating: Endurance: Penalty: Faceoffs: Leadership: Strength: Part 2b - Goalies Only (Divide 650 between the following) Glove: Blocker: Stickhandling: Pads: Angles: Agility: Skating: Endurance: Penalty: Rebounds: Leadership: Strength: |

I'm enjoying following this league and like the fast pace, it'll be fun to see how everyone's careers develops.
After a slow start for the Stars, Kelevra is beginning to make an impact although the Dallas management are obviously going with a goalie tandem with myself and Turco (both started 11 games so far) but I'm happy to be a part of a winning team at this early stage of my career!! |

Great read so far and a pretty wicked surprise to have all of this waiting this morning.
One question for you in regards to how you're handling the players. When it comes time to sign extensions/become free agents, how will that be handled? Depending on how things are worked there will affect how I'd approach setting my player's status in the mean time. Essentially, how much influence will we have on if our players will sign extensions/test free agency and if they hit free agency, how much control of where they sign? If you're not sure on that yet, no worries as everything so far has been very sweet and I'm very much looking forward to more updates.

SlowlyDownward - Yes, the more icetime you get, and the better the coach, the more you will improve. In terms of team quality I'm not so sure, I don't believe the game will improve your stats because of the players you are playing with.
Travis - I don't believe I will be able to handle contract negotiations as I won't be notified of any trades/contracts until after they are finalized, but of course, I suppose we do have *some* say in contract negotiations in as much as changing your status to "wants a better contract" as your current deal comes to an end. Free agency is something that I can edit, and will certainly bring it up at least before the end of this 08/09 season. For example, if you are coming to the end of your deal, even though the game will have offered you a new contract, we can choose to either accept or decline the offer, if declined the deal will still be accepted yet at the end of the season I will manually edit your status to an UFA or RFA, depending on how easy or hard we decide to make things. But as I say, we will come to that when it happens as everybody bar 1 is on 3-year deals. December 2008 - Regular Season 1st December 2008 Rookie of the month: Alexei *Picklov* (R) NHL has awarded Alexei *Picklov* (R) of Buffalo Sabres as Rookie Of The Month He registered 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points in 12 games last month. The 18 year old right wing has played 24 games with the Buffalo Sabres this season, totalling 17+15=32 with 52 PIM. Alexei *Picklov* has recently announced his desire to leave the Buffalo Sabres at a recent press conference: "So I'm the 4th best player in the league? And the best in my team (who are sh*t btw). Can you change my status to "wants to be traded" if I'm actually any good ". 2nd December 2008 Media criticises the Phoenix Coyotes The Phoenix Coyotes are spinning in a 5 game winless streak. Phoenix Coyotes center Mike Zigomanis commented about their recent play: "Things are not looking good for us but I think if we stay positive, we can climb out of this hole". 6th December 2008 Media criticises the Nashville Predators "We dug ourselves in a hole..." commented Nashville Predators GM David Poile after today's game against the Edmonton Oilers. This brings their current streak to 10 games winless. 7th December 2008 Media praises the San Jose Sharks "As a coach, if you can get your team to work hard every night, then you've done your job", commented San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan after today's game against the Los Angeles Kings. This brings their current streak to 6 games undefeated. 9th December 2008 Media praises the Edmonton Oilers The Edmonton Oilers are flying high with a 6 game undefeated streak. Edmonton Oilers defenseman Sergei *Hudyanikabolokov* commented about their recent success: "It's just so exciting to come to the rink these days. I mean, we're even enjoying practice!" 9th December 2008 The Philadelphia Flyers looking at the market The Philadelphia Flyers are after some help on the center for their team. The Philadelphia Flyers have been in contact with several teams and they have scouted various players but with no luck, reported the source. Philadelphia Flyers management refused to comment the rumors. 12th December 2008 Media praises the Philadelphia Flyers "As a coach, if you can get your team to work hard every night, then you've done your job", commented Philadelphia Flyers coach John Stevens after today's game against the Nashville Predators. This brings their current streak to 8 games undefeated. 19th December 2008 Media praises the Philadelphia Flyers "Let's see your headlines now...", commented Philadelphia Flyers GM Paul Holmgren after today's game against the Buffalo Sabres. This brings their current streak to 11 games undefeated. 26th December 2008 Keith Tkachuk reaches a milestone ! Keith Tkachuk(STL) notched the 500th assist of his career in tonight's game against the Chicago Blackhawks on a goal by Tom *Kislingbury*. "My line mate is so good I just have to throw it his direction and it's in the net. Anyone can look good playing with this guy", he joked. A native of USA, Keith Tkachuk was originally drafted to the NHL by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 1st round of the 1990 entry draft. He has appeared in 1086 NHL games during his career, notching 512 goals and adding 500 assists along with 2153 penalty minutes. The team has announced that Marc Crawford will be taking over the position. 29th December 2008 Media praises the Vancouver Canucks "I think one of the things that has been evident is we've had a chance to practice", commented Vancouver Canucks coach Alain Vigneault after today's game against the Calgary Flames. Washington Capitals center Nicklas Bäckström commented about their recent success: "We're playing like a team out there. The whole team has really bought into our system and not one player is slacking off". December Wrap-Up Standings Code:

Wow is the division tight right now. 3 teams tied for 1st with 50 points and the Penguins in 4th are just a point back of that logjam.
Looks like our PK will have to pick up if we want to get any sort of separation. Under 80% is pretty brutal, yikes.

Hrmm, that is really weird. I may have to look into that. I think the best option is just to retire this player at the end of the season and bring yourself back again for the next, or you can continue on, its up to you. I really don't know what has happened there, that is really annoying.
