You realize he had three gold gloves before coming to the Cubs and has always been a plus defender, right?

yup, hence the comment figured out he was overrated as a hitter(rookie season when he came in as the next Darryl Strawberry) and became a great glove the next couple of seasons. He started out hitting well as a rookie before going into a huge slump where he couldnt hit the ball in the air consistently. Not saying he had akways been a terrible hitter just not a hitter that commands 20+ million for 7-8 years.

Dusty outmanaging Maddon again. The Nats must feel confident going into a deciding game with Dusty calling the shots.

Carl Edwards Jr has no business pitching in a 1 run game right now.

Indians drop 3 straight to lose the Series last year, now they drop 3 straight to lose the division series. Ouch.

Tito now 2-7 in clinch games with the Indians including 5 straight losses.

Edit- it's now 2-8 with 6 straight losses I think.

5 men left on base w Heyward against a lefty. I wouldn't have played Zobrist all 4 games prior but to leave him out vs Gio in favor of Heyward is silly... even for extra defense.

No matter what, I simply cannot bring myself to cheer for the cubs. I just can't. I think the dodgers match up better with them, but I can't cheer for them.

We got enough fans.

The look on Dusty's face, however, made staying up for this fiasco well worth it.

Im kind of surprised at the lack of Cubs fans at this game. The other two home games seemed to have a bigger proportion

Umm, 1,2,3, and 7.

But, you're close, it's the four biggest from the post-season participants.

(Philly, Dallas, and DC are all bigger Nielsen markets than Houston)

+1,000,000. Hate that call. It's obvious his foot comes off, but unless you're watching both angles synced up, there is absolutely no way you can tell from the front angle when the glove came off his leg, or from the back angle when the foot came off the bag. Awful overturn of a safe call on the field.

Hell of a game though.

Isn't Houston the 4th biggest city? I probably worded it assume media market, but just meant populatuom

5th biggest MSA (the obvious three + Dallas are top four) based on the 2016 population estimates.

Hate it too, but they ended up showing a synced up view after the review and you could clearly see he was "out" from both sides. They said the review had the same thing.

While I agree with he was *probably* out, that sync still didn't show a view where you could tell the glove was touching him with certainty.

Probably the least enjoyable game I have ever watched, as a Cubs fan, other that when Leon Durham let the ball roll through his legs in the '84 NLCS at San Diego and cost the Cubs a WS appearance.

I thought the replay was dead on and no other call could be made. As the announcers were saying its hard to tell I was yelling at the screen "just synch the two views and you'll be able to tell!" They finally did and I guess the review crew saw it my way

This is the kind of game I have watched Cubs lose for about 45 years and the kind of games teams like the Cards or Yankees would always pull out. This Cubs team is a different animal and it's good to see. I feel for the Nats knowing all to well that feeling of thinking "we should have won" and "wait 'til next year".

Gonna be a bitch going to LA with a tired pitching staff (and a bullpen that can't get anybody out with any certainty) but it beats going home

Washington's history across THREE franchises in post-season:

1924 - World Series
1925 - AL Pennant
1933 - AL Pennant
2012, 2014, 2016, 2017 - NL East Champs

That's it.

Sure, they went 30+ years without a team, but if you add the Expos history which hilariously overlaps with when the Senators left for Arlington, that only adds a strike-year NL East title and that's it. 8 post-season appearances in over 70 seasons of baseball.

I'm sure it does, MSA is the "census designation" for metropolitan areas. I went that route instead of the Nielsen-defined DMA/TV Market just to try to get it closer.

I'm guessing you're looking at city limits or something of that sort, which basically means nothing in terms of media OR markets.

If Atlanta ended at it's city limits it'd be, like, Corpus Christi or something

Today I learned that Mexico City has a larger metropolitan area population than New York (20.89m versus 20.18m).

Roberts said the Cubs' lefties factored into Seager not being on the NLCS roster. That makes no sense.

I'm guessing the Dodgers will exploiting a loophole here soon enough

Scioscia made a living with that. I hate that rule. Tear that leg off if it's in the way. The Posey rule is bullshit.

Thought that was really tough overturn. Block came as catcher was sliding to catch the ball coming wide to left of plate. Based on how rule was explained, I thought he should have latitude to catch the ball. That said, it had little bearing on outcome. Cubs bats shut down against the Dodgers bullpen, Dodgers bats were live against Cubs bullpen.
