Sons of Anarchy Discussion
Tonight at 10, FX's new show that hopefully replaces the Shield for me, about a biker gang in California. Previews look good, and reviews of the first two episodes sound intriguing. I am very excited to see it, though it's funny HBO has their own biker show, 1% also coming out soon. Hopefully both work because I need some violence in my life.
So who else is planning on watching? |

i plan on watching.
if HBO is gonna have a biker show that might wind up being better than SoA, only due to being able to have an R-rated show for mature audiences. i actually might have to look into 1% since i prefer unfiltered violence. Last edited by Anthony : 09-03-2008 at 02:45 PM. |

I'll probably TiVo is and give it a watch, but I don't have high hopes for it.

Thought it was good. Shows a lot of promise. A nice little Shield reference as the One Niners are featured briefly.
Looks like Dutch from the Shield will also be on the show eventually too. |

Is it going to be a crossover, or a different "universe"?

Different universe. He played an ATF agent. The show has potential. A couple characters really intrigue me, but there are one or two that annoy me. I'll stick it out for the season I think, but so far so good. |

Nothing new here that hasn't been done (and done much better) in previous badboy-biker films. No compelling characters. So, yeah...*yawn* The commercials promised more than was delivered.
My opinion, take it or leave it. Last edited by SFL Cat : 09-04-2008 at 12:11 AM. |

As far as SFL goes, I can see where he is coming from, but I think there is some potential there down the line to stick with it for the time being. It's still entertaining for what it is, and there is some decent brutality mixed in.

Three episodes in and honestly I like how the show is playing out. It is a fun hour of TV every week, and I like the fact that these guys are almost like Vic Mackey from the Shield, where they are obviously in the wrong, but still do things that are right.
Plus, speaking of the Shield, Jay Karnes, aka Dutch from the Shield, debuted on the show, and just like on the Shield he is totally creepy but man he fucking rules. Things seem to be heating up. |

it's interesting. i tivo it, but i can't say i always watch it right away - but it's not BAD or anything. i also enjoy the fact that they're dirtbags but they do some things that are "good" -- aka they're huge gun-runners, but they also tracked down a rapist who raped a 13 year old girl in the most recent episode because they were like "that kinda shit doesn't go down in our town."
honestly the stuff that bores me the most (to the point i FF through it) is all the rest of it -- the stuff with the junky baby-mama, and Jax's whole like "digging through my dad's stuff and having a personal reflective moment each week" bullshit. The whole Jax internal-struggle is clearly supposed to be the overarching character-arc of the show though, so the fact that i find it trite is kind of worrisome. I watched the pilot, but when it came around to week 2, I consciously skipped it. It just didn't do it for me. I, too, was hoping it would replace The Shield for me. FX had another one like that a year or two ago, Thief, or something like that, but it got canned after about a month, and that was one I WAS on board with, argh.

FYI this got picked up for a second season as apparently it's one of FX's highest rated shows.
It's hitting a stride now. Very violent stuff at times, and some good stories. I still hate the Jax/kid stuff. Too slow for my liking, but honestly this is a fun show to DVR and watch when ya' got nothing else going on. |

Also, for Shield fans, Jay Karnes, who plays Dutch, is on here as an ATF Agent who is a total whackjob. He has made the show for me.

It's been a slow build but tonight was a great episode. Really intense stuff at the end. All I know is the finale should be good, and I am intrigued for next season.

This show has picked up all kinds of steam. It needed a few weeks to find it's groove but wow has it hit a stride. Too bad the season is over with now, but I cannot wait to see where it goes from here.

I wasn't all that excited early in the season, and missed several episodes throughout. These last four or five weeks have really built into something though. I was hoping for more fireworks last night, but it looks like next season is going to start off with a full head of steam.

(SPOILER ALERT S2Ep3)
First couple episodes were good, season opener especially. But I'm not happy with turning Deputy Hale into such a heel. It was much better when he was trying to do his job the right way. People were still rooting for the SoA obviously as the anti-heroes, but at least you were conflicted about Hale just going about his job. Plus it felt out of character. |

I haven't seen the third episode of season two yet, but I thought the second episode was very lackluster. I am still hooked though, because I just reminded myself that season one started off slow and by seasons end I was fucking loving this damn show.

Does anybody here besides me do a "jax walk"? Just roll your shoulders forward and kind of dip each shoulder with ultra-conviction, on each step. Chicks dig it. Especially doctors.

No, but one of my best friends is naming his first born son who is due in a few months Jackson.
Why does that have anything to do with this you may ask? So he can call him Jax.... I'm not kidding. Last edited by Scoobz0202 : 09-25-2009 at 07:05 PM. |

Yep.
Same thing, for me, as last season. Starts off slow (but still good), and just gradually picks up steam until this weeks episode where at the end it has me squirming with anticipation for next week. |

I appear to be in the tiny minority that has just about had it with this show. Could it be a little more rapey?

Been digging this show since it began last year...very cool. Katey Sagal has to be one of the most under-rated actresses out there right now.

I really liked last nights episode but I do think they took the easy way out on some things. There was a lot of build up where I felt like the end result was a let down with Piney, Opie, and Chibs. At least that is how I felt last night when I intially watched it.
But I do think Opie's storyline is not complete. I had forgotten about Jax and Opie in the bedroom at the clubhouse, and I feel Jax will help Opie get his revenge by the time it is all said and done. |

I agree though, a lot of "easy way out" it seemed. hopefully some of that comes to a head in the season finale. i foresee them either getting rid of ATF or the Nazis at the end of the season so that next season will be more about the internal dynamics and repercussions on the Sons and Jax and his old Lady etc. up until a new external threat is introduced either near the end or in the season finale. That's the thing F/X does so well with these shows (Shield, SoA) - balancing and alternating the internal conflict of the group (Strikeforce, SoA) and those stories versus the external.

Also, while we're obviously rooting against the scar guy from Braveheart/Gladiator being a rat, Clay's promise of protecting his wife/daughter is so laughable it's ballsy. I mean, 2 of the 5 "old ladies" we've seen have been killed (although I guess you killed one), and another (your wife) was gang-raped - all in your town, all in the last 6? months. You're really going to promise to protect a man's wife and daughter in Ireland? |
