People Amaze Me (not in good ways)

I was talking with SI about this earlier. I was watching "Worst Cooks in America" on Food Network. Some of these people are...wow. It's one thing to not know anything about food or how to cook.

One woman on the show is a professional poker player. She's a complete ditz. She doesn't know where Lebanon is. How can you not know at least what region of the world Lebanon is in? She also claims that before she saw Bobby Flay cooking it, she had never seen raw meat before. What?!

There's a woman who just doesn't seem real. She watched Bobby cook a dish, then she had to reproduce it. The dish had tofu in it. She kept pronouncing it "too-foo" even though he repeatedly corrected her. Then she was upset because she couldn't get her "too-foo" to melt. She later went on to say, when describing her Indian meatball: "When I think of India, I think people of India like to .... you're supposed to please four corners of their tongue. Bitter, sweet, crunchy....." This woman cracks me up.

Then, there's this woman who upon being assigned to make a Swedish meatball said, "Of all the countries, Sweden is the safest to me. I think of the Alps, I think of skiing. I have never been to Sweden, but if there's one thing I know, Sweden is in Switzerland."

So. How much of this is real, and how much is manufactured for TV? If these things are real, I'm amazed with people.

And, as I mentioned- this is why I was watching King Kong on TNT because I can't deal with that "reality"

I have no idea about this show, but I have no doubt it is, or could be, all too real. "Sweden is in Switzerland" is probably among the smartest things you could get an American to say.

Spanish and Portuguese have a lot of similarities, Fab Melo should be able to pass the class.

I do think these cooking/restaurant shows must pay some people to act ridiculous though. The last time I watched Kitchen Nightmares there was some crazy old woman who hated the color blue and insisted that "the customers are liars" when some complained about the food before the menu was revamped.

What amazes me that people actually believe that shows are not contrived, solely for entertainment purposes to obtain ad and subscriber revenues.

Oh, I know they are. But for some of this...it seems above and beyond what I'd expect, especially when it's a cooking show on Food Network. Plus, it's believable...I have a feeling that at least one of my coworkers couldn't tell me where Lebanon is, either.

I love "Worst Cooks..". I would bet at least 50% of it is manufactured. Same with the American restaurant makeover shows.

To quote Homer Simpson while looking at a map and being told kids couldn't find Canada - "Anyone could miss Canada, all tucked away down there."

i can believe it is all real..

2 examples, real to me..

example 1 : after a Trip to Europe, a co-worker asked how it was and i said it was great, just wish we got to the Greek Islands but didnt have time..

Her response "I have always wanted to go to the Greek Islands, where are they, like in America???"

example 2 : After explaining I (male) had a twin sister, the first question the same girl asked is

"are you identical?"

Both questions were 100% serious, unfortunately there are just some people around that have no idea... (trying to be polite here...) :P

Oh, so she's really a pro poker player? And I guess she comes off as a ditz to others?

If nothing else, she's pretty good-looking. I wish I had hair like hers.
