Effect of Overall Player Rating in Datafile

I'm experimenting with creating historical rosters for an old season. I think I've got it mostly figured out. Maybe somebody can answer this question.

If I wanted to give a player a high rating in, say, interceptions, but a lower rating in overall player rating, will the lower overall player rating supercede (and thus cancel out) the higher interception rating?

For example, suppose I make Jake Scott an 8 for interceptions, but a 6 overall. Will he still intercept like an 8 guy, or will he be reduced to a 6 guy because of the overall rating?

I don't really want to plug in separate ratings for every category for every player. I'd like to just give most players an overall rating and be done with them. But for a few players who are exceptional, I'd like to give a specific rating in the appropriate areas.
