+1. For such an interesting idea, they sure sucked all the fun out of the game and made it a game of 8 repeatable exercises. Don't bother with it unless you like games that have pretty graphics but no substance.

Direct2Drive released the next round of $5 games. Indie titles.

Mount and Blade
World of Goo
Sword of the Stars
and more.

Looks like I'm going to have plunk down about $20 this round. I'm grabbing Elven Legacy while it's still $5 as well.

Someone lemme know the next time PlayOn is available for 20 bucks. I suppose I can get it for 30 right now, but even that's a bit much.

Mainly just cause they could lose support from netflix streaming or Hulu at any point in time.

I thought the first Godfather game was entertaining, but it was so repetitive as well.

Just forked out $15. Doubt my wife will even notice that!! WooT!

edit: I spend like $4.00 a few weeks back on a few games. i still haven't opened the boxes. But 5 quality games for under $20, my wife won't complain at all!

I couldn't resist getting Titan Quest + expansion pack for $5. Digital distribution seems to have had a major effect on pc game pricing. Seems like every month either Steam or D2D is having some great game on supersale.

Same here. Thankfully games that went on sale in early weeks stayed on sale throughout.

Also on sale on Steam is Empire: Total War for $24.99 on weekend 50% off sale.

Decided I couldn't pass up Civ IV. I have been waiting forever to purchase that game. I had the game in my hand in the store the day after it came out and I never purchased it until today. Crazy.

You can trade in 2 games from a list at Gamestop and get Brutal Legend for $20. This is great if you already have one game to trade in. FIFA 090 is on the list and is $20 at Gamestop so grab then trade it in with the game you already have to get Brutal Legend for $40 instead of $60...

I'd pay full price for Civ4 and expansions even today. It's just about as good as it gets. $20 is downright ridiculous.

I kid you not. If I had one game to choose from and they locked me up with that one game, I'd choose CIV4 in a heartbeat. I've got a top list that I play pretty regularly (FM series is a big favorite of mine), but I can't think of a game that's even comes close to the amount of enjoyment I've got out of CIV4. It's just a fantastic game.

I'm tempted to do this just so I have it on Steam and don't have to dig out my CDs and do the dance semi-regularly. I'll be installing Win7 soon and this would be a big help.

wowsers. that's a ringing endorsement!

i'd probably pick FM, but I can remember having loads of fun with the last Civ series that I played - must have been 3 I suppose (although I always used to dread when it got to modern times).

Civ IV is much much better than 3. It's a pantheon game once BTS is added.

Any downsides to buying the steam version... Do mods and such work okay with Civ IV with steam?

oooh this is a good question.

my experience with other games (read: nba 2k9 on steam, and madden08 on d2d or wherever i got it from) is that mods work fine. you just have to point the ones with auto-installers to the right directory and you're fine.

I thought Civ3 was an above average game when I played it. Civ4 makes it look below average at best. I'd also note that it has little to do with the graphics and everything to do with the gameplay mechanics. They're worlds better than any of the previous Civ games. It's the kind of leap you'd love to see from other franchises that tend to get caught in a run and not look for big way to improve.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R., an open world shooter that's a few years old now, but comes pretty highly recommended, is available on Steam for $5 until the end of the week.

I bought it last night, but haven't downloaded it yet.
