The DC's are also slow as fuck, which is forcing them to foul and then get exposed on set pieces.

Great game by the Ticos. Uruguay exposed to have no defense at all.

Group D is going to be interesting.

It'd be pretty amusing if Italy-England ended in a draw and the Ticos were temporarily atop the group. Shit - given the 3 goals they might not even need a draw. If Italy pull a 1 goal win then Costa Rica would still be on top.

Yep - apparently he suffered a "very very minor twisted ankle" during training yesterday.

England: Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Gerrard,
Henderson, Sterling, Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge.

Italy: Sirigu, Darmian, Paletta, Barzagli, Chiellini, Verratti,
Pirlo, De Rossi, Candreva, Balotelli, Marchisio.

England clearly emphasizing speed and fitness here i´d say. Happy to see Verratti (another one where Football Manager made me follow a players career ) make the jump to the top level here.

What a ridiculous place to be playing a game.

Should be interesting to see who can dictate the tempo of the game. If England come out too fast I can see them tiring early, whereas Italy will be looking to play a slower tempo from the start.

Ugh - Paletta looked horrible in the last warm-up match.

Not sure I like all of Prandelli's choices to go on the plane at all.

i follow more players from FM than anything else, whomario!

Players like Adam Hlousek, Alexis Sanchez, now Mario Rondon, and the original Matthew Holland. I own a Holland jersey for when he played for Ipswich.

Darmien and Candreva are going to crack this thing at some point if England don't pay them more attention.

Wish DeSciglio was healthy though on the other wing.

You just had the sense that with this active ball one of those long shots from the midfield was going to cause issues.

Beautiful by Claudio...totally on the same page with Pirlo. Love it.

as a little aside, as the german commentator just mentioned (and a friend of mine who was in Manaus this time last year said the same) the conditions actually tend to get worse after sunset with the humidity kicking really in and temperatures not going down noticeably. Everybody going 90 minutes today will definitely know what he´s done there.

Also, the pitch in some areas looks like Wimbledon, week 2, already.

Beautiful cross and strike for England. Needed to equalize quickly before Italy parked the bus. Balotelli worries me though.

Damnit - if Darmien slides that over to Balotelli he's got a better crack at it.

Wait, how is that not a PK at the end there....Veratti gets shoved over by Sterling inside the box!!!

If you've recording the game go back and check it out. Seemed clear to me at the moment and I skipped back to watch it a second time and I still had the same impression. Sterling's arm comes up as they come together and he shoves Veratti off and to the ground.

And given some of the "fouls" in the box that have been called PKs so far this WC that was more of a penalty than some of the others (here's looking at you Fred).
