Because they know the Browns are gonna Brown in the 4th quarter? Makes no sense to kick there.

I’m guessing Ben will be back (I think he will make like $40M next year and there isn’t much benefit to stretching it out). I’ve watched nearly every game and still not sure if he’s lostt ‘it’ or the offensive line has gotten so bad, he has to force things.

If this is his last game, yikes! Not one we want to remember and not looking good for the future (in a division with Jackson, Burrow, and Mayfield AND cap hell).

It totally made sense to me. There is no emergency here. Cleveland is poised to blow it all. Punt it, hold them, pick up where you left off.

Turns out, I may have had that wrong.

He started with a middling reputation (if I recall correctly).

Then he wins a Super Bowl with his starting QB injured, beating the greatest coach in NFL history in the game itself. I am betting that if you asked most people then, he'd be seen as a top-5 coach.

A few years later, he's fired after a disaster of a year that pretty clearly stemmed from bad leadership and coaching and getting into a feud with his starting QB.

Wentz will murder the career of any coach that goes in there. They need to figure out how to get rid of him.

He’d clearly lost the locker room and the trust of the owner - it will be fascinating to see how a new coach approaches the Wentz situation.

I still don't quite understand the Wentz contract situation. I thought that despite whatever wishes the Eagles could dream up, his contract terms pretty much dictated Wentz was stuck in Philly for at least next year & maybe even another year after that.....but I also remember reading (maybe here?) that there was some wrinkle that allowed for a graceful exit as long as a trade or cut took place at some very specific time.....anybody know the deets?

I don't, but the Colts have rivers coming off the book, and a lot of people credit ryche for his early success. You would think all parties involved would want this to happen.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/philadel...n-wentz-18950/

The short answer is, he can't be cut. He can be traded, but the Eagles won't save much on the cap. If he's traded before 6/1, they'll barely save anything. So the only thing the Eagles can do is trade him after 6/1, and they'll save $15mil on the cap in 2021, while Wentz will still count ~$25m against the cap in 2022.

But the Eagles are about to be in cap hell. They might jump at a chance to clear $15m from their cap next year while getting draft picks in return, even at the cost of $25m in 2022.

What I read is that the contract has guaranteed salary, so if they cut him, then they still have to pay it. But if they trade him, then the new team takes on that obligation, making it possible (if not pleasant) for the Eagles to handle the cap hit.

Unconfirmed reports both Nagy and Pace keep their jobs. Unbelievable.

Chuck Pagano retiring (probably shown the door).

No word if they grow some real balls and fire Ted Phillips.

I'm ok with Nagy staying, but Pace needs to go. He does a poor job of evaluating talent.

Ok with Pagano going. The defense was ok, but could be better.

And yeah....they probably won't get rid of Phillips for awhile. Just isn't the way for Bears management.

Ted Phillips has to go or getting rid of Pace will do nothing. Phillips is probably the biggest problem in the organization and the reason Ballard didn't get the GM job when they hired Pace.

McKaskeys are always going to McKaskeys though.

Bears fans, help me understand why y'all think Pace is the problem here. Genuinely curious. Yes, the Trubisky trade was awful and thats a huge red mark there. But his trade for Mack gave y'all an elite player (arguably the best defender outside of Aaron Donald?) during his prime.

NFL draft: Grading Ryan Pace's 32 picks as Chicago Bears GM - Chicago Tribune

I dont think that analysis is far off, but I think we see alot of hits and misses (again Trubisky was a bad one).

Is it the FA that hurts? Getting Foles was solid IMHO, until again, he flopped. Not sure I'd blame Pace for trying there.

For me, the Trubisky trade-up fiasco was the biggest single red flag, but the FA signings and the talent evaluation for both the draft and free agents haven't been stellar. With the Trubisky trade, the team needed talent. Trading for Mitch was bad. Trading away 3 picks when they needed the injection of young talent made it worse.

Unfortunately, he's tied to his big trade for a QB. If he would've stayed at #3 and taken Mitch, I would have a different view. However, the optics of the trade along with the questionable early round selections make me feel it's time to move on.

Pace hasn't been awful, but where he has been bad has killed the team. The Trubisky trade is arguably fireable alone. Especially when you consider the process that led him to take Trubisky over Watson and Mahomes (2 qbs that reportedly impressed the scouting staff more) was basically Mitch reminded him more of Brees than the other 2 qbs.

The Mack trade was good on the surface but was part of going all in on a roster with Trubisky at qb. Going all in without a qb in place is asking to be fired.

The Jimmy Graham signing is indefensible as was prioritizing Tarik Cohen over Allen Robinson for an extension. The Trevathan extension is looking downright awful right now as well. Pace has had his hits in free agency (Robinson, Prince, Trevathan before the extension, Hicks, and Clinton-Dix) but he's also had some absolutely horrible signings (Dion Sims, Bobbie Massie, Trey Burton, Demps, Eddie Royal, Parnell McPhee, along with Graham). That's before getting to going with Foles over clearly better qb options this past offseason and giving up a draft pick to do so.

Overall Pace isn't terrible but he also doesn't appear to be the type of GM that's going to build continued success. Trubisky, plus destroying the bears cap situation in order to go all-in on a 3 year window that's netted 1 winning season, 2 trips to the playoffs, and zero playoff wins is usually enough to get you fired.

The Mack trade is pretty debatable on whether it was 'good' for the bears. He is immensely expensive and they gave up considerable draft capital ( a double whammy to a team in need of help). On top of that, I'd say his play is slipping which is not surprising given his style, age and position. Outside of a few games, I wouldn't describe his play as dominant.

I was listening to a local podcast and they had on a guy from one of the betting sites.

And he said that for his book (and, I assume, the others), the big exposure right now is the Bucs winning the Super Bowl. They gave the Bucs high odds in the offseason, and when word got out that Brady was going to join them, a bunch of people were able to get the Bucs at those odds before they had a chance to change them.

That exposure apparently overwhelms everything right now. If the Bucs don't win the Super Bowl, they will be fine. But if they do, then the book will take a bath regardless of whatever other betting happens in the playoffs.

Meyer does not strike me as an NFL guy. He seems much more suited for college.

And with so many good NFL assistants out there, I don't like this move for the Jags.

But, hey, good luck to him and the Jags. Trevor Lawrence is a hell of a talent. They should, at a minimum, be fun to watch.

edit--I just looked it up, and he's only 56 years old. I honestly thought he was a decade older. I like this move slightly more knowing that.
