If Reg gets extra IM training this week, he'd be just about ready to go to Formidable PM, eh? *drool*

Season 5 – FOFC Cup Elimination Play – Round of 32

Screamin’ Seamen vs. Blade Bombers

Date:
January 21st, 2004
Venue: The Docks (Chicago, IL)
Attendance: 1,776 (43,750)
Weather: Partly Cloudy

We’ve advanced to the elimination portion of FOFC Cup V, by virtue of our victory over Calibiri last week. But now things get serious, where it’s a “win or go home” attitude. Just like the NCAA Basketball Tournament, if you lose that’s it…better luck next year.

Our opponents are Blade6119’s Blade Bombers, who boast a middle-of-the-road club in most areas, but an amazingly stingy defense (a team after my own heart ). This could spell trouble for us, given the issues we’ve been having with our strikers as of late. We’ll have to rely on superior midfield play, and hopefully a little bit of luck to get us through this one. A low-scoring affair is expected.

Formation: 3-5-2
Tactics: Normal

We’ve got our typical reserve line-up on the pitch on the back line and up front, but with some obvious issues to deal with. Darryl Read, Ben McMahon, Forrest “Gump” Tobias, and Johannes Henriksson have all been mired in lousy form as of late, and have shown little signs of recovering. Still, I cannot bring myself to play starters in the FOFC Cup (and risk having them injured) so we’re pretty much stuck with what we have. Defender Sven Svensson is the one real bright spot in the group, as he has done an admirable job over the past couple of weeks filling in for suspended players.

Fans will immediately recognize one of their favorites is on the pitch today, and is out of place. The injury to Rune Kolberg on Sunday gives us a rare opportunity to get Reg Nichols some playing time in the middle of the field, so that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Reg isn’t quite up to the level of the others in pure ball control ability, but his leadership (albeit the leadership of an 18 year old) should help to keep the others under control, and hopefully give us the advantage we will need in the middle of the pitch to earn a victory and advance to the next round.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

Weather conditions were fairly good for football, and The Docks saw a crowd turnout of 1776.

Screamin' had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Read - Mcmahon, Svensson, Leier - Taxwell, Dufek, Nichols, Alustiza, Richardy - Henriksson, Tobias.

Bombers tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Cutler - Moore, Goetz, Tãtaru - Goins, Dotson, Fredfeldt, Torres, Martinsson - Sourd, Nissbo.

FIRST HALF

Screamin' tried to break through in the middle repeatedly, but kept getting stuck on the visitors defenders.

This was a good period for the visitors with several opportunities to take the lead, in particular when René Sourd slipped through the defense to come up alone with Darryl Read - but the home side´s keeper showed some lightning reflexes.

The referee showed Screamin's Reg Nichols the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 0. Screamin', bringing the final ball possession rate to 56 percent, dominated the battle.

SECOND HALF

Screamin' had a good opportunity to take the lead as Ad Taxwell came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Ruben Cutler.

Screamin', bringing the final ball possession rate to 53 percent, dominated the battle.

OVERTIME

As none of the teams had managed to win, extra time was called.

In the games 95:th minute Bombers´s Valeriu Tãtaru fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Valeriu Tãtaru for taking a dive.

Bombers had several good opportunities to take the lead, especially in the 114:th minute when Johan Fredfeldt came up alone against Darryl Read who managed a block.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Bombers´s René Sourd got himself booked.

PENALTY KICKS

After overtime the game was still at a tie, and a penalty contest ensued.

(PK 1) Screamin'´s Johannes Henriksson was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ruben Cutler. Score still 0 - 0.

Bombers´s Sherwood Goetz cooly put the ball past Darryl Read. 0 - 1.

(PK 2) Screamin'´s Agustín Alustiza was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ruben Cutler. Score still 0 - 1.

Bombers´s Stevie Dotson hesitated a long time before shooting a penalty going just wide of the left post. Still 0 - 1.

(PK 3) Screamin'´s Ben Mcmahon made no mistake. Ruben Cutler didn´t have a chance. 1 - 1.

Bombers´s Edward Moore looked insecure all the way from laying the ball down to clipping the ball miles wide of the crossbar. No goal.

(PK 4) Screamin'´s Darryl Read didn´t hesitate but Ruben Cutler managed the save, resulting in an unchanged 1 - 1 score.

Bombers´s Peter Martinsson looked insecure all the way from laying the ball down to clipping the ball miles wide of the crossbar. No goal.

(PK 5) Screamin'´s Reg Nichols seemed nervous, putting the ball to the centre of the goal. Ruben Cutler however, made an early dive to the right, the ball passing him. 2 - 1.

Bombers´s Johan Fredfeldt cooly put the ball past Darryl Read. 2 - 2.

(PK 6) Screamin'´s Ivan Richardy was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Ruben Cutler. Score still 2 - 2.

Bombers´s Ruben Cutler cockily booted the ball with a short-and-fast instep. The penalty, going just wide of the mark, didn´t produce a goal.

(PK 7) Screamin'´s Mattias Leier penalty shot was very well placed but Ruben Cutler went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 2 - 2.

Bombers´s Valeriu Tãtaru penalty shot was very well placed but Darryl Read went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 2 - 2.

(PK 8) Screamin'´s Sven Svensson penalty shot was very well placed but Ruben Cutler went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 2 - 2.

Bombers´s René Sourd didn´t hesitate but Darryl Read managed the save, resulting in an unchanged 2 - 2 score.

(PK 9) Screamin'´s Forrest “Gump” Tobias cockily booted the ball with a short-and-fast instep. The penalty, going just wide of the mark, didn´t produce a goal.

Bombers´s Randy Torres cooly put the ball past Darryl Read. 2 - 3.

POST-GAME

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Sven Svensson. Forrest “Gump” Tobias was a disappointment, however.

The most dominating Bombers player was without a doubt Ruben Cutler. However, Sherwood Goetz made a disastrous appearance.

Final Score: Blade Bombers 3, Screamin’ Seamen 2 (PK 3-2)

Comments

Even with the small advantage we enjoyed in the midfield, our struggling forwards didn’t stand a chance today against the Blade Bombers’ defense. Keeper Ruben Cutler is an amazing talent, and we just didn’t have the firepower to put one past him.

Our own keeper, Darryl Read, played a fine match as well. On two separate occasions he single-handedly kept us in the game with a lightning-quick save. We even managed to put two past Cutler once we got to penalty kicks and forced it to go nine rounds deep, but eventually fell 3-2.

I’m not all that upset about the results today. With our weakened program and relatively young training program, our only goal for the FOFC Cup was to advance past group play, and we accomplished that. We now wish the Bombers the best of luck through the remainder of the cup, and turn our full attentions toward league play.

Up Next: Weekly training results. Stay tuned!

Week 10 Training Results

The original plan for our training program called for a concentration on playmaking training, with a little bit of winger training along the way as well (at about a four-to-one ratio). As of last week we had eight weeks of playmaking training, so we were scheduled to concentrate on our wingers for the next two weeks. However, the injury to Kolberg on Sunday caused us to change that. The injury permitted us to get Reg Nichols a full week of playmaking training, so we’ve pushed the winger training back by a week.

None of our players “took the next step,” as it were, but we weren’t really expecting any of them to either. Reg Nichols has had the equivalent of five weeks of midfielder training, and so is still a short way off from excellent playmaking (he’s solid at the moment).

The league-match playing time that we’ve been giving to Chilean midfielder Javier Tejeda appears to be paying off, and he has been making fewer youthful mistakes as of late (he has improved to wretched (2) experience).

Form Changes

Eight players improved their playing form this week:
-Defender Sven Svensson -> excellent (8)
-Midfielder Gino Behling -> solid (7)
-Winger Ivan Richardy -> solid (7)
-Midfielder Javier Tejeda -> solid (7)
-Midfielder Jaimy van de Kerkhof -> solid (7)
-Wingback Mattias Leier -> passable (6)
-Midfielder Agustin Alustiza -> inadequate (5)
-Goalkeeper Darryl Read -> inadequate (5)

Eleven players saw their form remain the same this week.

Three players dropped in form this week:
-Winger Reg Nichols -> passable (6)
-Wingback Arlen “Headcase” Lucas -> inadequate (5)
-Forward German Galvez -> poor (3)

This week’s form results are definitely a good news/bad news sort of situation. The good news is that the club’s overall form curve is on the upswing. The bad news is two-fold, however. First, Arlen “Headcase” Lucas is in a bit of a slump, which is a rare occurrence for him. This is the first time in over a year (real time) that he has dipped below passable (6) form. Hopefully this is just a short-term slump.

The worse news is that our forwards continue to struggle, with only Guido Metman playing well. We’re having a lot of trouble generating offense as a result of this (this week’s FOFC Cup match is a perfect example).

In The Zone

Veteran Swedish defender Sven Svensson continues to prove that he is well worth the money we spent to get him. He has filled in admirably on the back-line, and this week has risen to excellent (8) form. With the slump that Headcase is experiencing, it is possible that Sven will see the pitch in this Sunday’s match.

Form Dogs

Forrest “Gump” Tobias remains mired in poor (3) form, and this week is joined by another striker, German Galvez. Obviously this does not bode well for our goal-scoring ability (or rather, our lack thereof).

Player Value

Average Player Value: $317,955 (+$9,000)
Total Player Value (22 players): $6,995,000 (+$198,000)

Assessed Value Milestones

-Defender Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald ($700,000)

$600,000+
-Midfielder Gino Behling ($624,000)

Break out the champagne! Bring on the dancing girls! For the first time in ages, our youth squad has given us someone who is actually worth the oxygen they breathe. Mark isn’t good enough to play for us, but we’re sure that someone out there will be willing to take him off our hands.

18 years old, passable (6) form, healthy.

Screamin’ Seamen vs. Harrisburg Harries

Date:
January 25th, 2004
Venue: The Docks (Chicago, IL)
Attendance: 19,599 (43,750)
Weather: Rain

Last week’s big victory over the Ramblers has the team in high spirits, and the odds are in our favor to start a real winning streak this week, as we host the lowly Harrisburg Harries. The Harries have been the bottom-dwellers all season, having failed to earn so much as a single point all season long.

Harrisburg, frankly, just isn’t very good. They’re a relatively young team, and were obviously unprepared to compete at the Division IV level. They might have been able to hold their own and at least earn qualification in some other series’, but never really stood a chance in The Series Of The Beast [tm]. We’re looking for an easy win today, particularly because we’re at home.

Unfortunately, the match-up doesn’t seem to have drawn the attention of the fans, and it’s raining to boot. It doesn’t look like we’ll have much of a turnout at The Docks.

We have one noticeable absence today, as we’ve elected to go with veteran defenseman Sven Svensson in place of fan favorite Arlen “Headcase” Lucas. Arlen’s form has been slipping a bit as of late (a rare occasion), and Sven has been playing so well as of late that we’ve decided to give him another outing with the starters. Despite the drop-off in raw talent and the fact that Svensson is not a natural wingback, we don’t expect to see any decrease in the capabilities of the defense.

Nothing spectacular in the midfield or with the forwards this week. Ivan Richardy gets to start on the wing opposite Reg Nichols. Ivan and Walter Bosch are pretty much running neck-and-neck for the regular starting position on the left wing, and we typically decide on a week by week basis who gets to play on Sundays. Ivan had himself a fine week of practice, and so gets to see the pitch today.

We’re telling the lads to take it easy out there today, as we don’t expect to see much resistance from the Harries.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

Due to an all-day shower, 19599 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at The Docks.

Screamin' had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Jernigan - Svensson, Mcdonald, Willard - Nichols, van de Kerkhof, Behling, Tejeda, Richardy - Metman, Galvez.

harrisburg had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Anderson - Stensson, Llaneras, Thorpe - Billionnet, Vadstrup, Georgescu, Rendon, Jackson - Queen, Rosenberg.

FIRST HALF

Screamin' broke through to the left in the 5:th minute, Cameron “Big Mac” Mcdonald firing at an acute angle giving the home side a 1 - 0 lead.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put Screamin' lead up with 2 - 0. Guido Metman finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

Halftime score was 2 - 0. Screamin', bringing the final ball possession rate to 58 percent, dominated the battle.

SECOND HALF

An indirect free kick in the visitor´s penalty area in the 47:th minute could have resulted in another goal, but Ronny Anderson got a hand out and tipped the ball over the bar.

Screamin' put themselves up 3 - 0 when Gino Behling broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him. The structure of the game started to change as Screamin' decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

Screamin's Sven Svensson got himself booked after a foul. Andrew Rosenberg the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game, so Martin Parkes had to come off the bench.

Screamin' put themselves up 4 - 0 when Javier Tejeda broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him.

Cameron “Big Mac” Mcdonald seemed to be floating in the air at will as he elegantly headed in 5-0. The previous Screamin' corner kick was executed by Tyler Willard.

Screamin', bringing the final ball possession rate to 57 percent, dominated the battle.

POST-GAME

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Tyler Willard. Germán Galvez on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Comments

We got an easy win today, pretty much as expected. A little more offensive production than we’re used to, but I’m certainly not going to argue. It’s pretty obvious that the Harries just don’t have the horsepower to compete at this level, or at least not in this series.

Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald had himself a whale of a game, helping “Corny” Jernigan to pitch his 26th career shutout, and tallying two goals of his own, including a beautiful header off of a Tyler Willard corner kick. Javier Tejeda deserves some mention as well, as the Chilean sparkplug continues to bring his A-game on Sundays. The 18-year-old tallied his third goal in four weeks today, and is definitely becoming a player to watch and a favorite of the fans as well.

Series Scores and Standings

-Big Reds were able to handle the Croats in Miami, 3-1.
-WoM FC continues to impress late in the season, earning a tough road win 3-1 over Sweden Heights
-Neon Genesis Evangelion handed it to the reeling Ramblers, 4-1.

No. Team Played Goals Pts NSI
1. Big Reds 11 33-5 28 97
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion 11 29-11 28 79
3. Screamin’ Seamen 11 20-14 19 77
4. Croats in Miami 11 29-19 16 83

6. Ramblers 11 17-23 13 80
7. WoM FC 11 15-33 9 60
8. Harrisburg Harries 11 3-41 0 61

By virtue of WoM FC’s surprising win over Sweden Heights, we’ve laid sole claim to third place with only three weeks to go. Still, a lot can change in three weeks, so we’ll have to keep on our toes and play it smart. But if we can manage to finish third, given our situation at the beginning of the season, I will be more than pleased.

Week 12 Matchups

Croats in Miami vs. Screamin’ Seamen
Ramblers vs. Harrisburg Harries
Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Sweden Heights
WoM FC vs. Big Reds

We get to travel to Miami and take on our favorite team to hate, the Croats. This one will be a good test for us, and we’ll need to win it to get the inside track on a 3rd place finish. With a nine point lead over the rest of the pack, and with a match remaining between the two, either Big Reds or Neon Genesis Evangelion are guaranteed the series title.

Up Next: We’ve arranged for a second international trip this season, as we’ll be traveling to Sweden for a friendly match against the Vigge Boys. Stay tuned!

The boys seemed a little down this week, despite the convincing win over the weekend against the Harrisburg Harries. No doubt they were hoping to go a bit deeper into the FOFC Cup than they did, though myself and Coach Fluieras weren’t particularly upset. Either way, we decided that an international trip was in order, and so arranged for a friendly match against the Vigge Boys, a club from Sweden’s 6th Division.

The Vigge Boys typically run a 3-5-2, and like to push the ball up the gut rather than rely on their wingers to create chances for them. We’ll be playing our own typical 3-5-2 against them, but will try to keep midfielder Milan Dufek back to help out on defense when needed.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

2487 spectators had come to Anfield Road this cloudy day.

Vigge tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Broblad - Kjellsson, Fjelén, Jansson - Althoff, Höggmo, Aletten, Strömkvist, Sommardahl - Jansson, Mamede.

Screamin' had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Read - Leier, Mcmahon, Lucas - Taxwell, Dufek, Alustiza, Kolberg, Bösch - Henriksson, Tobias.

FIRST HALF

Vigge clearly preferred attacks in the middle. Vigges Cristiano Mamede gave, after 11 minutes, the home team a 1 - 0 lead after an attack coming in from the right.

Arlen “Headcase” Lucas sailed high, high above the opponents as he headed the 1-1 in after a corner kick after 15 minutes of play.

A questionable penalty in the 31st minute gave the home side the lead 2 - 1. The visitors goaltender didn´t stand a chance as Paul Jansson knocked the ball home.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put Vigge lead up with 3 - 1. Cristiano Mamede finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

The teams went for a half-time break at 3 - 1. Vigge, bringing the final ball possession rate to 52 percent, dominated the battle.

SECOND HALF

Vigges Klausjürgen Althoff got himself booked after a foul.

A questionable free kick call just outside of the home side´s penalty zone gave Screamin' a chance at reducing the score in the 66:th minute. At any rate, the ball went wide.

In the games 74:th minute Vigge´s Mattias Sommardahl fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Mattias Sommardahl for taking a dive.

Screamin' fought on and, in the 78:th minute Rune Kolberg was able to reply with 3 - 2 after some excellent moves on the right side finished off by an incredibly clever chip.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Vigge, with an impressive 54 percent possession of the ball.

POST-GAME

Vigge´s best player was Cristiano Mamede. Magnus Fjelén on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Screamin'´s best player was Arlen “Headcase” Lucas. Forrest “Gump” Tobias was a disappointment, however.

Final Score: Vigge Boys 3, Screamin’ Seamen 2

Comments

The only shining moment in the first half was a nice header goal by “Headcase” Lucas, but otherwise the half was a disaster. Nothing seemed to go our way, and we gave up an embarrassing three goals. Our lads fought back in the second half, and Rune Kolberg managed to make things interesting. Unfortunately we weren’t able to tally another one in the last twelve minutes, and we dropped the game 3-2.

Week 11 Training Results

We decided to go with one more week of concentration on our midfielders before switching to winger training for a couple of weeks. None of our youngsters showed any real dramatic improvement this week, but none were expected to either.

Form Changes

A whopping twelve players improved in form this week!
-Midfielder Gino Behling -> excellent (8)
-Defender Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald -> excellent (8)
-Forward Guido Metman -> excellent (8)
-Midfielder Milan Dufek -> solid (7)
-Winger Reg Nichols -> solid (7)
-Wingback Tyler Willard -> solid (7)
-Midfielder Agustin Alustiza -> passable (6)
-Goalkeeper Darryl Read -> passable (6)
-Winger Ad Taxwell -> passable (6)
-Wingback Ben McMahon -> inadequate (5)
-Forward German Galvez -> weak (4)
-Forward Forrest “Gump” Tobias -> weak (4)

Nine players saw their form remain the same this week.

Only one player dipped in form this week:
-Winger Ivan Richardy -> passable (6)

We had a truly amazing week on the practice field this week, by far the best week we’ve ever seen with regards to the club’s form curve. The team is really clicking on all cylinders now, it seems, due in no small part to two straight league victories I’m sure.

In The Zone

Veteran defenseman Sven Svensson is joined by three others this week for “in the zone” honors: midfielder Gino Behling, defender Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald, and forward Guido Metman. All four are playing inspired soccer right now, a trend which we hope continues through the remainder of the season.

Form Dog

Form Dog is a less dubious honor this week, as both of last week’s dogs, forwards German Galvez and Forrest “Gump” Tobias showed improvement this week. This week they join a third striker, Johannes Henriksson, in weak (4) form.

Player Value

Average Player Value: $334,227 (+$16,272)
Total Player Value (22 players): $7,353,000 (+$358,000)

The total assessed value for the club leapfrogged well past the seven million dollar milestone this week.

Assessed Value Milestones

$200,000+
-Midfielder Javier Tejeda ($212,000)

It looks like our youth squad has returned to the woeful performance it has been giving for most of this season. Bud Bronson has been given his walking papers, and was promptly run over by a bus after leaving the clubhouse. No great loss, believe me.

Season 5 – League Match #12

Croats in Miami vs. Screamin’ Seamen

Date:
February 1st, 2004
Venue: San Siro (Miami, FL)
Attendance: 59,648 (60,000)
Weather: Partly Cloudy

We’re in beautiful South Florida this weekend to take on our biggest of rivals, the Croats in Miami. If you’re a follower of the Screamin’ Seamen then you’re probably well aware of just how much of a rivalry exists between these two clubs. The Croats are the team that cost us the division title in our first season at the Division IV level, and every match since then has been a grudge match.

The good news for us today is that everything seems to be going our way. We’ve won two consecutive league matches, and the overall form of the club is through the roof at the moment. We’ve actually laid claim to third place in the series, and look to solidify that position this afternoon.

Previous Meetings

(W) 12/15/2002 – Screamin’ Seamen 5, Croats in Miami 1
(L) 3/16/2003 – Croats in Miami 1, Screamin’ Seamen 0
(D) 4/20/2003 – Croats in Miami 2, Screamin’ Seamen 2
(L) 6/22/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 1, Croats in Miami 2
(W) 8/3/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 2, Croats in Miami 1
(L) 10/19/2003 – Croats in Miami 3, Screamin’ Seamen 2
(D) 11/30/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 2, Croats in Miami 2

As you can tell we’ve got a pretty tight record against the Croats, with every single match except for the first one decided by one goal or ending in a draw. We’ve always played the Croats tight, and we expect today to be no different.

We’re going with our standard lineup today. The team has been playing well enough lately that we do not feel any tricks are necessary to get a win against the Croats. We will, however, be concentrating our attack more on the wings, where the Miami defense appears to be a little weaker.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

59648 spectators arrived at San Siro, where weather conditions were pretty good for football.

Croats tactics involved an interesting 3-4-3 combination. Lineup: Tze-Kei - Patrick, Herrmann, Britt - Moldoveanu, Larsson, Peterek, Andry - Howe, Larsson, Clay.

Screamin' started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Jernigan - Willard, Mcdonald, Lucas - Nichols, Dufek, Behling, Tejeda, Bösch - Metman, Galvez.

FIRST HALF

It was an obvious ambition of Screamin' to attack on the flanks.

Screamin' took the lead in the games 11th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Germán Galvez was the scorer.

Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 24:th minute Screamin' goal, making it 0 - 2. Germán Galvez was noted down as the scorer.

In the games 29:th minute Screamin'´s Cameron “Big Mac” Mcdonald fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Cameron “Big Mac” Mcdonald for taking a dive.

One of many good passes from Reg Nichols at the wing was recieved and skillfully taken care of by Germán Galvez, scoring for Screamin' to 0 - 3. By then Germán Galvez was a three time scorer - a hat trick!

Marc Andry almost put the reducer away having drawn the entire left side defence away, but the shot went straight into the arms of the goalkeeper.

After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Croats´s Anders Larsson got himself booked.

The referee showed Croatss Marc Andry the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 3. Croats, bringing the final ball possession rate to 57 percent, dominated the battle.

SECOND HALF

The game had been on for 48 minutes when Tyler Willard broke through to the right, upping the score to the home crowd´s dismay. Screamin'´s were up 0 - 4. The structure of the game started to change as Screamin' decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

A misunderstanding between the visitors keeper Cornelius Jernigan and his left defence could have resulted in a goal for Croats, but Anders Larsson´s finish was way to lame.

In the 68:th minute Screamin's Javier Tejeda received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. The Croats player was Venceslav Peterek who had to be helped off the pitch, unable to finish the game, but Oleg Komaric came in to finish the match.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Croats, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.

POST-GAME

Croats´s best player was Oleg Komaric. Anders Larsson on the other hand, had a terrible day.

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Tyler Willard. Germán Galvez on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Final Score: Screamin’ Seamen 4, Croats in Miami 0

Comments

Well, today wasn’t the sort of day that we were expecting. It was obvious as soon as the Croats took to the pitch that they had no intention of trying to win the match, playing nearly all of their players out of position. It was a victory, and an easy one, but the lineup that the Croats chose made it a bit of a hollow one.

Their reasons for doing what they did are evident. Mathematically eliminated from the series title race, they’ve decided to tank the remainder of the season in order to finish fifth or sixth, thereby getting another match by virtue of a relegation game. This is the sort of thing that I do not agree with. If I were a Croats fan, I would be upset…fans don’t pay to see their team lose on purpose. If something unfortunate were to happen in said relegation match, I will do nothing but laugh as the Croats relegate to Division V.

Still, it was a good day and we’ll definitely take the three points. Special congratulations need to go out to Argentinean striker German Galvez. Though German has been struggling a bit lately, he earned the first hattrick of his career today.

Series Scores and Standings

-Ramblers, though they’re struggling lately, had an easy time with the Harrisburg Harries, winning 5-nil.
-Neon Genesis Evangelion stayed in contention, defeating Sweden Heights 3-1.
-WoM FC put up a fight, but lost to Big Reds, 2-nil.

Week 13 Matchups

Screamin’ Seamen vs. WoM FC
Big Reds vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion
Harrisburg Harries vs. Croats in Miami
Ramblers vs. Sweden Heights

Big Reds vs. Neon Genesis Evangelion is obviously the marquee matchup next week, with the series title on the line. Our own match against WoM FC should be interesting as well, as a draw will allow us to lock up a second consecutive third place finish.

Up Next: We have a friendly match against Belgian 4th-Division club DTNW Cercle. Stay tuned!

We’ve got a significant change to what the fans are used to seeing from us, regarding formation. We’re switching to some winger training for the next couple of weeks, and have moved rookie midfielder Agustin Alustiza to a wingback position in order to get him a little bit of experience playing on the wing. The removal of a midfielder from our usual numbers means we’ll be going with a standard 4-4-2 formation, rather than our typical 3-5-2.

Match Report

At The Docks, 4458 punters turned up, and despite threatening clouds at the horizon, no rain came.

Screamin' had chosen a strategic 4-4-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Read - Leier, Svensson, Mcmahon, Alustiza - Richardy, van de Kerkhof, Kolberg, Taxwell - Henriksson, Tobias.

Cercle had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. Lineup: Löytöläinen - Alvarez, Brady, Lanez - de Morgado, D'Alberto, Tommasini, Gaster - Dwi, Hedeland, Prskalo.

FIRST HALF

Cercle seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.

In the 5:th minute cheers broke out as Jaimy van de Kerkhof found his way through the guests central defense line, clipping the 1 - 0 goal in for Screamin'.

After 19 minutes Ad Taxwell put Screamin' ahead 2 - 0 as he rose to head in a hooked ball, the result of an effort from the right side.

A speedy charge from the left side of the field put Screamin' lead up with 3 - 0. Ad Taxwell finished that one off competently, firing from an acute angle.

The referee showed Screamin's Forrest “Gump” Tobias the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

3 - 0 was the half-time score. Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 64 percent possession rate.

SECOND HALF

A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 49 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Screamin'. However, Teijo Löytöläinen made a spectacular save.

Forrest “Gump” Tobias increased Screamin's lead to 4 - 0 by putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right.

The structure of the game started to change as Screamin' decided to pull back and meet their opponents in the defensive zone.

The referee showed Screamin's Sven Svensson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

With 56 minutes played Ben Mcmahon could have brought this one home for Screamin', had his hooked ball gone in, but it went just a bit too high.

A great save by goaltender Teijo Löytöläinen in the 59:th minute kept the visitors in the game as Forrest “Gump” Tobias struck from the left with a real cannonball.

Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 63 percent possession rate.

POST-GAME

Most important Screamin' player was Sven Svensson. However, Agustín Alustiza made a disastrous appearance.

Most important Cercle player was Flemming Hedeland. Robbie Lanez on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Final Score: Screamin’ Seamen 4, DTNW Cercle 0

Comments

The 4-4-2 worked like a champ today, as the visitors weren’t able to break through the defense provided by an extra player on the back line. Ad Taxwell also had the best performance of his young career, and somehow managed to score two goals in the same minute. Impressive.

Journeyman Striker Lourenso Finds Home in Chicago

(Chicago, IL) The Screamin’ Seamen Football Club, located in Chicago, Illinois, announced earlier today that they had come to an agreement to bring veteran Chilean striker Fidel Lourenso on board. The transfer cost SSFC $1,275,000, by far the largest transfer fee ever paid by the team.

“We’re very pleased to have a quality forward like Fidel joining the club,” stated team owner and general manager Dat A. King at a press conference this morning. “Mr. Lourenso brings with him formidable goal-scoring abilities, as well as the kind of experience we like to see in our strikers.”

Lourenso spent the early seasons of his career with the now-defunct Pura Cana F.C. in his native Chile. Since the club entered receivership Lourenso has bounced around, with two stays in Sweden and one in Croatia, but never for more than one season. King stated in the press conference that the acquisition of Lourenso is definitely a long-term deal.

Lourenso has been a prolific goal-scorer throughout his career, averaging over a goal per game, finding the twine 93 times in 85 competitive matches. This is one area that Seamen fans have definitely felt is in need of improvement, and apparently the club’s ownership has listened.

With the Seamen all but guaranteed a second consecutive third place finish, it is unlikely that the impact of this acquisition will be fully felt until next season.

Ivan Phillip Freely is an Associated Press Reporter for the Chicago Tribune.

Form Changes

Four players improved in form this week:
-Midfielder #6 Agustin Alustiza -> solid (7)
-Goalkeeper #13 Darryl Read -> solid (7)
-Winger #9 Ad Taxwell -> solid (7)
-Forward Forrest “Gump” Tobias -> inadequate (5)

14 players saw their form remain the same this week.

Three players dipped in form this week:
-Winger #16 Reg Nichols -> passable (6)
-Midfielder #4 Jaimy van de Kerkhof -> passable (6)
-Winger #23 Ivan Richardy -> inadequate (5)

After last week’s incredible improvements in the form department, we rather expected to see a bit of a dip this week. We were pleasantly surprised to see that things pretty much stayed as is.

In The Zone

Four players remain in excellent (8) form this week for the second week in a row:
-Midfielder #19 Gino Behling
-Defender #2 Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald
-Forward #12 Guido Metman
-Defender #24 Sven Svensson

Form Dogs

Forrest “Gump” Tobias finally gets out of the doghouse, but it is too little and too late. The recent acquisition of Fidel Lourenso has made Gump expendable, and he has been placed on the transfer market. The two remaining form dogs are strikers German Galvez and Johannes Henriksson, both in weak (4) form.

Player Value

Average Player Value: $338,043 (+$3,816)
Total Player Value (23 players): $7,775,000 (+$422,000)

The acquisition of striker Fidel Lourenso has naturally skewed the numbers for this week.

Assessed Value Milestones

$200,000+
-Winger #9 Ad Taxwell ($225,000)

Up Next: The weekly youth squad disappointment and financial update. Stay tuned.

Season 5 – League Match #13

Screamin’ Seamen vs. WoM FC

Date:
February 8th, 2004
Venue: The Docks (Chicago, IL)
Attendance: 43,750 (43,750)
Weather: Sunny

This week we have a golden opportunity, to match the rare golden glow an unobscured sun has cast upon Chicagoland. That opportunity is to lock down a third place finish in the series. But standing in our way is our cross-town rivals, WoM FC. This marks the first time we’ve had the pleasure of hosting a Chicago derby in competitive play, and The Docks are literally bursting at the seems with rapid soccer fans from both sides.

WoM FC played us tough during our first meeting at their stadium, but we were able to eek out a 1-nil victory. Though they started out slow, WoM FC have really come on strong as of late, winning two of four and playing Big Reds pretty tough last weekend. Unfortunately for them it’s a case of too little, too late, as they’ll be relegated back to the depths of Division V at the end of the season. But mark my words folks, they’ll be back, and soon (hopefully not to The Series Of The Beast [tm]). All sorts of upside here, folks.

Previous Meetings

(W) 11/23/2003 – WoM FC 0, Screamin’ Seamen 1

While our opposition may be playing inspired footie as of late, we’re still confident that we can win this match. In truth, we only need a draw and a single point to lock down our second consecutive third place finish, but instead we’re going for the throat. With Neon Genesis Evangelion looming large next weekend, this is our best chance to get that needed point, so our players will be giving their all today.

Our back four remain the same this week, though with a slight variation. In order to take a more aggressive stance in today’s match, we’ve given wingback Tyler Willard free reign to move up the right side and join the attack if he should see an opportunity.

The middle sees a couple of changes today. Conspicuous in his absence is Chilean midfielder Javier Tejeda, who earned his third booking of the season last weekend and will therefore sit this one out. 18-year-old Dutchman Jaimy van de Kerkhof will take his place in the middle. Ad Taxwell will also see some heretofore rare competitive play. The young Englishman has really come on strong the last couple of weeks, and has earned himself a spot on the starting roster, for the time being at least.

But by far the biggest change is up front, with veteran Chilean forward Fidel Lourenso making his club debut. The crowd (those who are SSFC fans, at least) gave Fidel a very warm welcome during pre-game warm-ups. Hopefully he’ll give them something to cheer about once the match gets underway as well.

Speaking of which…

Match Report

PRE-GAME

The 43750 spectators at The Docks were in for an afternoon of sunshine. People from all of Chicago had joined up for the derby.

Screamin' started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. They fielded: Jernigan - Willard, Mcdonald, Lucas - Nichols, Dufek, van de Kerkhof, Behling, Taxwell - Metman, Lourenso.

WoM had chosen a strategic 3-4-3 formation. The following players had been chosen: Fernández Moheda - Alvarez, Stevanovic, de Jongh - Unger, Håkansson, Nikl, Boonnak - Steiner, Oldham, Bonnemann.

FIRST HALF

In the 1st minute the visitors broke through on the right after some poor defending and Dave Alvarez put the ball away for 0 - 1.

The visitors Otokar Nikl took advantage of an error due to a misunderstanding between the home side´s goalie and central backs in the 9:th minute. 0 - 2 for WoM.

The home crowd brightened somewhat when Fidel Lourenso scored with a header after an attack from the right, making the numbers 1 to 2.

Screamin's Guido Metman got himself booked after a foul.

Due to a severely mistimed tackle,Kreangkrai Boonnak spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game.

The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 2. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by WoM, with an impressive 52 percent possession of the ball.

SECOND HALF

Some fine manouvering on the left lead to an 47:th minute WoM goal, making it 1 - 3. Mark Oldham was noted down as the scorer.

Fidel Lourenso challenged the visitors full backs eagerly, producing a good chance in the 54:th minute as he went for a through ball combination. But as so many times before, the guest´s defensive efforts got the best of it.

Screamin's Fidel Lourenso went wide in the 59:th minute, recieving a brilliant pass slicing through the visiting teams central defense line, putting the 2 - 3 goal away.

Reg Nichols of Screamin' received a yellow card in the 62nd minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 54 percent possession rate.

POST-GAME

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Cameron “Big Mac” Mcdonald. However, Jaimy van de Kerkhof made a disastrous appearance.

WoM´s best player was Hans Håkansson. Mark Oldham was a disappointment, however.

Final Score: WoM FC 3, Screamin’ Seamen 2

Comments

The first nine minutes of today’s match were an absolute disaster, and despite one of our best performances in history for the remainder of the match, we just weren’t able to catch up. WoM FC obviously pulled out all the stops today as well, as they had one of their best performances ever. At least newcomer Fidel Lourenso did give the home fans something to cheer about. It’s just too bad that no one else was able to help him out.

I have the feeling that we really missed Javier Tejeda today. He’s a big-time playmaker for such a young kid, and may very well have given us the edge we needed today to at least earn a draw. Such is life.

Series Scores and Standings

-Things remained interesting at the top of the table, as Big Reds and Neon Genesis Evangelion fought to a scoreless draw.
-Croats in Miami continue to tank matches on purpose, dropping one to the lowly Harrisburg Harries, 3-2.
-Ramblers continue their slide as well, getting shut out by Sweden Heights, 3-nil.

No. Team Played Goals Pts. NSI
1. Big Reds 13 35-5 32 96
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion 13 32-12 32 83
3. Screamin’ Seamen 13 26-17 22 88
4. Sweden Heights 13 26-25 19 85
5. Croats in Miami 13 31-26 16 48
6. Ramblers 13 22-26 16 83
7. WoM FC 13 18-37 12 77
8. Harrisburg Harries 13 6-48 3 60

The draw between Big Reds and NGE definitely throws a wrinkle into things up top. Big Reds still have inside track on the series title, but will now be hard pressed to earn automatic promotion if they should be victorious next weekend. Our own situation is a bit more stable. Barring some sort of miracle for Sweden Heights, we will still be claiming the third spot by goal differential if nothing else.

Week 14 Matchups

Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Screamin’ Seamen
Sweden Heights vs. Big Reds
Croats in Miami vs. Ramblers
WoM FC vs. Harrisburg Harries

Like I said, it’ll take a miracle for Sweden Heights to take third place.

Up Next: Another international friendly, this time some Canucks called the B.C. Cougars. Stay tuned!

Very nice pickup in Lourenso! It looks like he's already done wonders for your attack.

I must say I'm impressed that you've been so successful during a training transition year. I salute you.

Fonzie: Thank you very much. I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised with the way things have gone this season (though the Croats tanking matches certainly didn't hurt). And yes, Lourenso looks to be just the piece that our offense needed.

Now if I could just get this dynasty report all caught up with reality

Season 5 – International Friendly Match

Screamin’ Seamen vs. B.C. Cougars

Date:
February 11th, 2004
Venue: The Docks (Chicago, IL)
Attendance: 4,517 (43,750)
Weather: Overcast

This week we welcome the Canadian B.C. Cougars club to Chicago. Hailing from British Columbia, the Cougars are a top-flight team in Canada’s 4th-Division, and appear destined to make the jump to Division III at the end of this season.

In their training matches, the Cougars are fond of pressing the ball and cutting off angles, and often play a heavily-defensive 5-3-2 formation. This means that, while we may have a good portion of the possession today, we could have trouble getting the ball into scoring position, much less past the keeper. To help counter this we’ll be playing to one of our strengths, and pushing the ball up the pitch on the wings, then concentrating on getting good cross-passes from wingers Walter Bosch and Ivan Richardy.

Formation: 4-4-2
Tactics: Attack on Wings

Starters (# appearances, *s last time out)

Keeper: #13 Darryl Read (32 career appearances, **~)

Right Wingback: #17 Mattias Leier (13 career appearances, ***~)
Central Defender: #3 Ben McMahon (46 career appearances, ***)
Central Defender: #24 Sven Svensson (112 career appearances, ****)
Left Wingback: #6 Agustin Alustiza (6 career appearances, *~)

Right Winger: #20 Walter Bosch (11 career appearances, ***)
Inner Midfielder: #7 Rune Kolberg (6 career appearances, ***)
Inner Midfielder: #8 Javier Tejeda (11 career appearances, ***~)
Left Winger: #23 Ivan Richardy (15 career appearances, ***)

Forward: #11 Johannes Henriksson (77 career appearances, **)
Forward: #14 German Galvez (40 career appearances, **~)

Team Captain: #24 Sven Svensson
Set Pieces: #11 Johannes Henriksson

Substitutes
-Keeper: #1 Cornelius “Corny” Jernigan (71 career appearances, ****)
-Defender: #2 Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald (30 career appearances, ****~)
-Midfielder: #4 Jaimy van de Kerkhof (17 career appearances, ***)
-Forward: #19 Gino Behling (14 career appearances, **** (midfielder))
-Winger: #10 Milan Dufek (12 career appearances, ***~ (midfielder))

Our back line remains the same as last week, with 18-year-old Spaniard Agustin Alustiza playing out of position at the wingback position. We’re keeping him on the left side of the formation, next to veteran defenseman Sven Svensson. Sven can provide the kid a little help on the wing, should the need arise.

In the middle, we’ve got Walter Bosch and Ivan Richardy playing the wings for us today, as was mentioned previously. Also seeing the pitch today is Chilean phenom Javier Tejeda. Javier was suspended from Sunday’s match due to accumulated bookings, and so will play today instead.

Up front, we’re fielding Johannes Henriksson and Argentinean striker German Galvez. Galvez has been struggling the latter half of the season, and the recent addition of Fidel Lourenso to the club means that German has been relegated to reserve duty, at least for the time being. Once he regains his match fitness (hopefully prior to the start of next season), he should be able to challenge Guido Metman for a starting position.

Despite some looming clouds, we’ve got a pretty good turnout today, considering that this is only a training match. Here’s hoping that we give the Screamin’ Seamen faithful something to cheer about.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

4517 spectators had come to The Docks this cloudy day.

Screamin' tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Read - Leier, Svensson, Mcmahon, Alustiza - Bösch, Kolberg, Tejeda, Richardy - Henriksson, Galvez.

Cougars tactics involved an interesting 5-3-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Jansson - Stanwick, Benham, Sanborn, Heller, MacMonies - Knutson, Richmond, Bouthot - Wei-kun, Vidal.

FIRST HALF

Screamin' saw most attack opportunites on the wings and were directing their passes that way.

Cougars strategy involved pressing and cutting off attack angles of their opponents from all over the field.

At this time in the match, Cougars were using their skills at the press to successfully put pressure on their opponents.

Screamin's Ivan Richardy got himself booked after a foul.

The 15:th minute saw the home team take a 1 - 0 lead after a leak in the visitors right side defense. Scorer for Screamin' was Johannes Henriksson.

In the 34:th minute Screamin'´s Mattias Leier tried to nail the coffin shut, but the shot rebounded off the bar to fall behind the net.

The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 0. Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 61 percent possession rate.

SECOND HALF

Visitors Guillermo Vidal was alert on a play coming in from the left, making the score a tie at 1 - 1 in the 46:th minute.

A well placed corner kick from Johannes Henriksson was followed by Walter Bösch´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant goal for Screamin'. The result now 2-1.

Cougarss Shawn MacMonies got himself booked after a foul.

After 76 minutes Ouyang Wei-kun made a speedy advance and dropped the ball to Guillermo Vidal who shuffled the ball past the keeper. The score was now 2 - 2.

After a fine move down the middle Ivan Richardy nearly gave the home side one up in the 77:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though.

Screamin' held the ball, with a clear 67 percent possession rate.

OVERTIME

After the regular 90 minutes, the agony of overtime followed.

Johannes Henriksson was very close to giving Screamin' the lead with an ingenious free kick routine in the 95:th, the ball just grazing the bar.

After a fine move down the middle Javier Tejeda nearly gave the home side one up in the 109:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though.

PENALTY KICKS

There was still no winner after 30 minutes of extra time so the teams had to select a lineup for a penalty contest to settle the result.

(PK1) Screamin'´s Johannes Henriksson made no mistake. Per Jansson didn´t have a chance. 3 - 2.

Cougars´s Brian Benham, obviously having last minute doubt´s, produced a loose ball to the right post. Unfortunately Darryl Read made a premature move to the left and didn´t make it back. New score 3 - 3.

(PK2) Screamin'´s Darryl Read made no mistake. Per Jansson didn´t have a chance. 4 - 3.

Cougars´s Willie Knutson penalty shot was very well placed but Darryl Read went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 4 - 3.

(PK3) Screamin'´s Ben Mcmahon had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 5 - 3.

Cougars´s Per Jansson looked insecure all the way from laying the ball down to clipping the ball miles wide of the crossbar. No goal.

(PK4)Screamin'´s Agustín Alustiza hesitated a long time before shooting a penalty going just wide of the left post. Still 5 - 3.

Cougars´s Ouyang Wei-kun penalty shot was very well placed but Darryl Read went the right way, blocking it spectacularly. The score was still 5 - 3.

(PK5) Screamin'´s Rune Kolberg seemed nervous, putting the ball to the centre of the goal. Per Jansson however, made an early dive to the right, the ball passing him. 6 - 3.

Cougars´s Guillermo Vidal cooly put the ball past Darryl Read. 6 - 4.

POST-GAME

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Sven Svensson. Agustín Alustiza on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Cougars´s best player was Jean-Claude Bouthot. Willie Knutson on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Final Score: Screamin’ Seamen 6, B.C. Cougars 4 (4-2 PKs)

Comments

Well the fans that turned out for this “meaningless” training match sure were in for a treat! The Cougars took us all the way to penalty kicks before we were finally able to bring this one home, due in large part to the spectacular play of Darryl Read at the end. The veteran goalkeeper made two spectacular saves against good penalty kicks for the Cougars, and that alone was the difference.

But still, it really never should have gone as far as it did. Our finishing ability was downright horrible today, and we missed on no fewer than four different scoring opportunities (including two in overtime!) I suspect that all the effort we put into Sunday’s match against WoM FC had something to do with that. Still and all, a win is a win, and we’ll gladly take it.

Up Next: Weekly training results. Stay tuned!

Week 13 Training Update

Someone has been suspiciously quiet as of late. Arlen “Headcase” Lucas has never been the most indiscreet or quiet of players, but he really hasn’t made that much noise this season. Perhaps he is beginning to be overshadowed by the likes of Reg Nichols and Javier Tejeda. But Headcase definitely made some noise on the practice field this week, and has displayed an improved ability to move the ball of the wing and deliver some nice cross-passes to our strikers.

Arlen “Headcase” Lucas

Position: Wingback
Jersey #5

23 years old, passable (6) form, healthy.

A sympathetic guy who is temperamental and honest.
Has poor (3) experience and inadequate (5) leadership abilities.

Specialty: Head

Nationality: American
Assessed Value: $798,000
Wage: $5,200 per week

Stamina: Excellent (8)
Playmaking: Poor (3)
Winger: Solid (7)
Scoring: Poor (3)
Goaltending: Disastrous (1)
Passing: Wretched (2)
Defending: Outstanding (10)
Set Pieces: Poor (3)

Swiss midfielder Gino Behling has also begun to show an ability to learn from his youthful mistakes, and has improved to wretched (2) experience.

Form Changes

Seven players improved in their form this week:
-Goalkeeper #13 Darryl Read -> excellent (8)
-Winger #9 Ad Taxwell -> excellent (8)
-Midfielder #8 Javier Tejeda -> excellent (8)
-Winger #23 Ivan Richardy -> solid (7) (a two level improvement)
-Winger #20 Walter Bosch -> solid (7)
-Wingback #5 Arlen “Headcase” Lucas -> passable (6)
-Forward #14 German Galvez -> inadequate (5)

Eleven players saw their form remain the same this week.

Four players dipped in form this week:
-Midfielder #19 Gino Behling -> solid (7)
-Defender #24 Sven Svensson -> solid (7)
-Midfielder #6 Agustin Alustiza -> passable (6)
-Winger #16 Reg Nichols -> inadequate (5)

We figured that the overall form of the club was just about at it’s peak, but were proved wrong this week as it rose even higher. The one real reason for concern is Reg Nichols, whose play has been dropping off a bit as of late. He’s still good enough to retain his starting spot, at least for now, but had best watch his back.

In The Zone

Midfielder Gino Behling and defender Sven Svensson both fell out of the zone this week, but were replaced by three other players. Our list of players in excellent (8) form now sits at five:

-Defender #2 Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald
-Forward #12 Guido Metman
-Goalkeeper #13 Darryl Read
-Winger #9 Ad Taxwell
-Midfielder #8 Javier Tejeda

Form Dogs

Swedish striker Johannes Henriksson is mired in another of his long-lasting slumps, and remains the club’s only form dog this week, in weak (4) form.

Player Value

Average Player Value: $360,136 (+$22,093)
Total Player Value (22 players): $7,923,000 (+$148,000)

The sale of Forrest “Gump” Tobias has skewed the number slightly this week.

Assessed Value Milestones

$200,000+
-Midfielder #7 Rune Kolberg ($202,000)

Season 5 – League Match #14

Neon Genesis Evangelion vs. Screamin’ Seamen

Date:
February 15th, 2004
Venue: Shinji’s Stadium (Erie, PA)
Attendance: 63,251 (67,000)
Weather: Overcast

This season we finish things off on the road, with no small task ahead as Neon Genesis Evangelion lay in wait for us on their home turf. This is the club that has been neck-and-neck with Big Reds for the majority of the season, and with one last gasp at winning the series title.

A quick glance at the table, however, and one realizes that the season is all but over already. With a goal differential lead of ten, Neon Genesis Evangelion have to pray for, namely that Sweden Heights, who seem destined for a relegation match, somehow manage to steal a point from Big Reds. At the same time, they must be victorious over us today as well.

Previous Meetings

(W) 12/22/2002 – Neon Genesis Evangelion 2, Screamin’ Seamen 3
(W) 3/9/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 3, Neon Genesis Evangelion 1
(W) 5/11/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 4, Neon Genesis Evangelion 2
(L) 6/1/2003 – Neon Genesis Evangelion 3, Screamin’ Seamen 1
(W) 8/10/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 5, Neon Genesis Evangelion 0
(L) 10/12/2003 – Neon Genesis Evangelion 4, Screamin’ Seamen 0
(L) 11/16/2003 – Screamin’ Seamen 0, Neon Genesis Evangelion 2

We started out strong in our history against Evangelion, but have obviously struggled against them as of late. And to be frank, I expect us to continue to struggle today. Our lads gave their all last week, and though we came up short against WoM FC, a third place finish is still likely ours. Unless the same miracle that Evangelion is looking for happens and Sweden Heights upset Big Reds, our final placement is decided.

Our lineup remains the same as last week, with English winger Ad Taxwell seeing Sunday action for the second week in a row.

Our lads will be giving their all today, in an effort to do whatever we can to secure a third place finish. But as was mentioned earlier, it’s practically in the bank as it is.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

63251 spectators had come to Shinji's Stadium this cloudy day.

EVA started off with a 3-5-2 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Åkesson - Runesson, Mårtensson, van der Tempel - Kalnins, Andersson, Taylor, Fortune, Tudela - Lachance, Kowalski.

Screamin' tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Jernigan - Lucas, Mcdonald, Willard - Nichols, Dufek, Behling, Tejeda, Taxwell - Metman, Lourenso.

FIRST HALF

EVA seemed to prefer attacking in the middle.

Many thought Huey Kowalski ought to have been awarded a penalty shot in the 10:th minute, as he went down trying to circle the visitors keeper Cornelius “Corny” Jernigan.

The home side put themselves ahead 1 - 0 in the 24:th by a breakthrough from Andrejs Kalnins, who unaided came in out of the right wing hooking the ball over the visitors keeper.

EVA put themselves up 2 - 0 when Jörgen Andersson broke through on the right, leaving the entire defensive box behind him.

In the 32nd minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Stanley Lachance dashed through, knocking home 3 - 0 for EVA.

The referee showed EVAs Junior Taylor the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge.

3 - 0 was the half-time score. EVA held the ball, with a clear 63 percent possession rate.

SECOND HALF

Jörgen Andersson of EVA received a yellow card in the 54:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

Huey Kowalski sprang high, as always, and was very close to scoring with a header after a corner, but missed just barely.

Stanley Lachance increased EVAs lead to 4 - 0 by putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right.

The fortyfive minutes were dominated by EVA, with an impressive 64 percent possession of the ball.

POST-GAME

EVA´s best player was Jörgen Andersson. However, Jon Mårtensson made a disastrous appearance.

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Tyler Willard. Milán Dufek was a disappointment, however.

Final Score: Neon Genesis Evangelion 4, Screamin’ Seamen 0

Comments

A disappointing way to end the season, to say the least. It felt like we deserved a better result than a 4-nil drubbing today, but a large part of that had to do with our as-yet inexperienced midfield. The kids we have playing in the middle just didn’t have much left in the tank here at the tail end of the season, especially with all the extra effort they put into last week’s match. Our strikers were often in good position for scoring chances. The midfield just couldn’t get them the ball.

Series Scores and Standings

-Big Reds locked down the series title in convincing fashion, demolishing Sweden Heights, 5-nil.
-Croats in Miami concluded their shameful slide to sixth place, losing to Ramblers at home, 3-2.
-WoM FC and Harrisburg Harries, both doomed to demotion, fought to a 2-2 draw.

No. Team Played Goals Pts. NSI
1. Big Reds 14 40-5 35 87
2. Neon Genesis Evangelion 14 36-12 35 88
3. Screamin’ Seamen 14 26-21 22 85
4. Ramblers 14 25-28 19 72
5. Sweden Heights 14 26-30 19 46
6. Croats in Miami 14 33-29 16 55
7. WoM FC 14 20-39 13 66
8. Harrisburg Harries 14 8-50 4 63

Judging by their performance, it appears that Sweden Heights have subscribed to the Croats’ “let’s lose on purpose and get a relegation match” school of thought. I’ve come to expect this sort of opportunistic (and unrealistic) type of thing from the management of the Croats, but not from Sweden Heights. Needless to say, I have little respect left for either club.

The good news is that we did indeed clinch our second consecutive third-place finish, guaranteeing us yet another season in The Series Of The Beast [tm]. Considering that we began the season with a brand new (and very young) midfield, I’d say we’ve done pretty well for ourselves, and could very well contend for the series title next season.

Up Next: Our last friendly match of the season. Stay tuned!

excellent season DK.... i thought you were gonna get destroy'ed most of the season considering you had a bunch of 18 year old "Solid" middies starting. But the Seaman did a great job!!!

I'd say not next season..... but the season after that could be the year the Seaman win the "Series Of The Beast"!!!!

Looks like Big Reds was replaced with a walkover. "The Beast" may be no more.

Yeah, what's up with that. The Shockerz are decent, tho (the other replacement). And, not to spoil the story line, but gotta love Croats gloating over his vanquished vastly inferior foe.

Havok: Thanks a bunch! I'm pleasantly surprised that we were able to do this well, considering the state we were in at the beginning of the season. I also take some pride in knowing that the "tanking" that CIM and Sweden Heights conducted didn't affect us. We were in line for a 3rd or 4th place finish before those two started their shinanegans.

DukeRulesMAB: I forgot to make mention of it, but yes, Big Reds did actually manage to autopromote out of the series, which is quite impressive. They were the 2nd team above the auto-promotion line, which means we've received a walkover team. This will no doubt hurt our series ranking, but things are still going to be tough, with the likes of NGE, CIM, and Sweden Heights to contend with.

sterlingice: ShockerZ look to be a pretty good team, and the walkover demotion from Division III is a blessing for them, as it means there will actually be room for them to stay in the series after next season. They're pretty good, but if Big Reds were still around I think they'd still get demoted.

I'm going to put the finishing touches on this season over the next couple of days (time permitting), before starting a new thread for Season 6. Also, I feel the need for a bit of a change in the format of this thing (as was pointed out at the Golden Scribes, this thing is old). So I'll probably be going to more of a narrative-heavy and statistic-light format for next season. There's precious little room for creative juices the way this thing stands now.

Season 5 – International Friendly Match

Screamin’ Seamen vs. TodoxNada

Date:
February 18th, 2004
Venue: The Docks (Chicago, IL)
Attendance: 3,424 (43,750)
Weather: Sunny

We finish up the regular season today with another home training match against an international team. We really like the flavor of all these international matches, and it helps to give our reserves a little more experience, as they see how soccer is played in other parts of the world. Today’s opponent is the TodoxNada club, from the Chilean 4th Division.

The Santiago-based club is doing quite well for itself this season, and is destined for promotion to 3rd Division play next season. They play an asymmetrical 3-5-2 formation in most of their friendly matches, so we’ll be looking to take advantage of the open space on the side of their defense by pushing the ball up the wings, rather than up the middle.

Formation: 3-5-2
Tactics: Attack on Wings

Starters (# appearances, *s last time out)

Keeper: #13 Darryl Read (32 career appearances, ***)

Right Wingback: #3 Ben McMahon (46 career appearances, ***)
Central Defender: #24 Sven Svensson (112 career appearances, ****)
Left Wingback: #17 Mattias Leier (13 career appearances, ***~)

Right Winger: #20 Walter Bosch (11 career appearances, ***)
Inner Midfielder: #4 Jaimy van de Kerkhof (17 career appearances, ***)
Inner Midfielder: #6 Agustin Alustiza (6 career appearances, *~ (wingback))
Inner Midfielder: #7 Rune Kolberg (6 career appearances, ***)
Left Winger: #23 Ivan Richardy (15 career appearances, ***)

Forward: #11 Johannes Henriksson (77 career appearances, **)
Forward: #14 German Galvez (40 career appearances, **~)

Team Captain: #24 Sven Svensson
Set Pieces: #11 Johannes Henriksson

Substitutes
-Keeper: #1 Cornelius “Corny” Jernigan (72 career appearances, ****)
-Defender: #5 Arlen “Headcase” Lucas (77 career appearances, ****~)
-Midfielder: #10 Milan Dufek (13 career appearances, ***~)
-Forward: #12 Guido Metman (125 career appearances, ***~)
-Winger: #9 Ad Taxwell (7 career appearances, ***~)

18-year-old Spaniard Agustin Alustiza returns to his normal inner midfield position this week, as we’re moving back to our standard 3-5-2 formation. This means that Ben McMahon will move back to his native wingback position as well.

Other than that, it’s pretty much business as usual for us today. We’ll be making a concerted effort to move the ball up the pitch on the feet of our talented young wingers Walter Bosch and Ivan Richardy. How they play may very well determine the outcome of the match, because we know our defense is good enough to keep things close.

Match Report

PRE-GAME

A scorching day at The Docks, where 3424 spectators were in place for today´s match.

Screamin' tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. They fielded: Read - Mcmahon, Svensson, Leier - Bösch, van de Kerkhof, Alustiza, Kolberg, Richardy - Henriksson, Galvez.

TodoxNada had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Coromina - Christiansson, Heyboer, Schönwerth - de Graan, Yazîcî, Weston, Larrea, Villarruel - Aguiar de Luque, Bustos.

FIRST HALF

It was an obvious ambition of Screamin' to attack on the flanks.

TodoxNada had a good opportunity to score the lead goal but the home team goaltender Darryl Read saved Kevin Weston´s shot headed for the top corner.

After 3 minutes Screamin'´s Walter Bösch contracted a slight foot injury, but could finish the game.

Walter Bösch of Screamin' received a yellow card in the 15:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

TodoxNada´s 0 - 1 goal came from a questionable penalty. Raúl Bustos struck that one home without a second thought.

The teams went for a half-time break at 0 - 1. TodoxNada, bringing the final ball possession rate to 54 percent, dominated the battle.

SECOND HALF

The away team´s Ceferino Larrea took advantage of a mistake to the home side´s right in the 58:th minute increasing TodoxNada´s lead to 0 - 2.

Screamin' didn´t give in and in the 58:th minute Sven Svensson was able to put the 1 - 2 goal away after a play from the right.

When Walter Bösch made yet another studs first tackle, in the games 62th minute, the referee was obliged to book the Screamin' player for the second time, sending him off the pitch. Guido Villarruel the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game, so Patrik Ångell had to come off the bench.

Rune Kolberg of Screamin' received a yellow card in the 65:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

TodoxNada, bringing the final ball possession rate to 56 percent, dominated the battle.

POST-GAME

The most dominating Screamin' player was without a doubt Sven Svensson. However, Johannes Henriksson made a disastrous appearance.

The most dominating TodoxNada player was without a doubt Kevin Weston. Patrik Ångell on the other hand, had a terrible day.

Final Score: TodoxNada 2, Screamin’ Seamen 1

Comments

We had a pretty tight match on our hands today. Unfortunately, we seem to have gotten in the habit of falling behind early as of late, and that was part of our undoing today as well. And of course, it doesn’t help matters much when you’re concentrating your attacks on the wings and one of your wingers gets ejected for losing his cool. Needless to say, Coach Fluieras and I will both be having lengthy discussions with Walter about keeping his cool on the pitch.

Up Next: We conclude our training program for the season. Stay tuned!

Oh, it'll definately be tough, plenty of quality teams still left. Just won't be quite as beastly as it has been recently.

Week 14 Training Update

We’ve returned to concentrating on our midfield play to close out the season, and to hopefully set the tone for the next. None of our young midfielders really took “the next step,” as it were, but we weren’t really expecting any of the too, either. However, Estonian wingback Mattias Leier seems to have picked up a thing or two over the course of the season.

Mattias Leier

Position: Wingback
Jersey #17

21 years old, passable (6) form, healthy.

A popular guy who is calm and honest.
Has disastrous (1) experience and weak (4) leadership abilities.

Nationality: Estonian
Assessed Value: $367,000
Wage: $2,784 per week

Stamina: Excellent (8)
Playmaking: Weak (4)
Winger: Passable (6)
Scoring: Poor (3)
Goaltending: Disastrous (1)
Passing: Weak (4)
Defending: Excellent (8)
Set Pieces: Weak (4)

Form Changes

Four players improved their form this week:
-Midfielder #6 Agustin Alustiza -> solid (7)
-Forward #14 German Galvez -> passable (6)
-Midfielder #7 Rune Kolberg -> passable (6)
-Forward #11 Johannes Henriksson -> inadequate (5)

Fifteen players saw their form remain the same this week.

Three players dipped in form this week:
-Goalkeeper #1 Cornelius “Corny” Jernigan -> passable (6)
-Winger #9 Ad Taxwell -> passable (6) (a two level drop)
-Wingback #5 Arlen “Headcase” Lucas -> inadequate (5)

Once again our overall great form remains stable this week, and it’s nice to see that strikers German Galvez and Johannes Henriksson both appear to be coming out of their slumps. The problem this week is “Headcase” Lucas, usually one of our most consistent performers, continues to struggle. We can only hope that, whatever is bothering him, he is able to work it out in the off-season.

In The Zone

Four of our players remain in excellent (8) form this week.
-Defender #2 Cameron “Big Mac” McDonald
-Forward #12 Guido Metman
-Goalkeeper #13 Darryl Read
-Midfielder #8 Javier Tejeda

Form Dogs

We have a few players now in inadequate (5) form, but I cannot consider that to be low enough to warrant “form dog” status.

Player Value

Average Player Value: $364,955 (+$4,819)
Total Player Value (22 players): $8,029,000 (+$106,000)

Assessed Value Milestones

$200,000+
-Midfielder #6 Agustin Alustiza ($214,000)

$300,000+
-Midfielder #10 Milan Dufek ($308,000)
-Winger #23 Ivan Richardy ($309,000)

$700,000+
-Midfielder #19 Gino Behling ($700,000)

Up Next: We close out our financials for the season. Stay tuned!

Hey, dufus! *throwing rocks from his empty glass Hippo house*

It's not that hard to throw in a lot of statistic if you want now with the WYSIWYG interface. Not to take up too much space in your dynasty, but with the interface turned on, all I had to do with select the right side of the screen and it takes 5 seconds to paste this and you suddenly have a pretty professional looking report. If you get some basic table knowledge, you can set up a really nice looking report without much work each week. Makes me want to get back on my dynasty if not for how much I'd rather work on the report than homework and that's bad

Houston Hippopotami - Green Country 3 - 0

View game: HT Live
Date: 2/23/2004 at 01.00
MatchID: 14055294
Arena: The Hippodrome
Crowd: 32000

At The Hippodrome, 32000 punters turned up, and despite threatening clouds at the horizon, no rain came. Hippopotami had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. They fielded: Kimber - Cristiano, Miquel, Ming-Cheung - Fridin, Benito, Tryggvesson, Little, Starks - Spagnuolo, Peiffer.

Greys tactics involved an interesting 4-4-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Riedel - Gibbons, van Ingen, Johnson, Hammarén - Moorits, Karstensson, Kinder, Lacey - Oppel, Jerinic.

Hippopotami saw most attack opportunites on the wings and were directing their passes that way. Greys immediately set off pressing their opponents. In the games 7:th minute Hippopotami´s Gualtiero Spagnuolo fell dramatically just outside the penalty area. However, the referee booked Gualtiero Spagnuolo for taking a dive. Greys's ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently. The referee showed Greyss Peter Hammarén the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Many thought Robert Tryggvesson ought to have been awarded a penalty shot in the 30:th minute, as he went down trying to circle the visitors keeper Steffen Riedel. In the 34:th minute Hippopotamis José María Miquel received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. A foul after 40 minutes resulted in a free kick. José María Miquel cannonballed it, giving the hometeam the lead 1 to 0. After an industrious effort down the middle Robert Tryggvesson could have closed the game off in the 41st minute, but his finishing shot hit the post. Halftime score was 1 - 0. Hippopotami held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate.

In the 54:th minute of the match the visitors central line of defence had to look on as Mick Starks dashed through, knocking home 2 - 0 for Hippopotami. The referee showed Hippopotamis Robert Tryggvesson the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Greys were forced to a substitution as Steffen Riedel couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment, forcing Mart Weelink to come in from the sidelines. The visitors got a chance of pulling one back in the 69:th minute, due to a defensive blunder leaving Erik Karstensson completely unmarked. His strike was pathetic though, easy prey for the home side´s keeper. A couple of quick and successful challenges, followed by a shot from just outside the penalty area after 72 minutes might have resulted in another goal for Hippopotami. However, Mart Weelink made a spectacular save. In the 83rd minute of the game, Hippopotami´s José María Miquel had to leave the pitch after receiving his second booking. Eric Peiffer increased Hippopotamis lead to 3 - 0 by putting a header away on a hooked ball from the right. The home side´s Gualtiero Spagnuolo came close to extending the lead in the 85:th minute. His shot came in off the right hand side but Mart Weelink managed saving with a fingernail. Hippopotami held the ball, with a clear 57 percent possession rate.

The most dominating Hippopotami player was without a doubt Thomas Little. Robert Tryggvesson on the other hand, had a terrible day. Greys´s best player was Bennett Kinder. However, Mart Weelink made a disastrous appearance. The match ends 3 - 0.

I haven't messed around with the new interface, obviously. Perhaps I'll work that stuff into the new narrative format, for all the stat junkies out there.

Thanks for pointing that out...dufus.

SSFC Holds Annual Awards Banquet

(Chicago, IL) The Screamin’ Seamen Football Club hosted a large gathering of media, sponsors, and supporters this past weekend at their annual awards banquet, held at The Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago. The turnout among the club’s supporters was strong, as the fans were obvious quite pleased, if not ecstatic, with the club’s second consecutive third place finish in the series standings.

Wingback Arlen Lucas, affectionately referred to as “Headcase” by teammates and fans, took home the club’s top honors again this season. Though his play did lag a bit towards the end of the season, the 23-year-old New Jersey native remains the anchor on a talented defensive line. He also continues to dominate the air on opponent set piece plays, along with his central defensive partner Cameron McDonald. Lucas was awarded both the Best Defender and Most Valuable Player awards.

18-year-old Chilean midfielder Javier Tejeda made a great deal of noise among SSFC fans this past season, and was rewarded with the club’s Best Midfielder award. Many expected young winger-phenomenon Reg Nichols to take home the award, but the Chicago native was obviously outshone by his South American teammate during the season. Tejeda electrified crowds on many an occasion, bagging seven goals in U.S. Open Cup and league play, including two game-winners.

The South Americans continued to shine as the evening wore on, and Argentinean striker German Galvez was awarded the club’s Best Forward award. Though he, like Lucas, waned in the latter part of the season and was even relegated to the club’s second squad, his dominance on the front line early in the season carried him through. Galvez easily led the club with thirteen goals in competitive matches, including five game-winners and the first hattrick of his career.

The last award of the evening, Most Improved Player, was awarded to 18-year-old Danish winger Ivan Richardy. Richardy had a considerable amount of competition for the award, given all of the young players brought in during the past off-season by the club, but Richardy appeared to be a popular choice nonetheless. Club leaders had expressed a lot of concern early in the season regarding the young man’s performance, but he rapidly turned things around and was rewarded with four starts in league play this season.

Season 5 – Closing Commentary

We have to be pleased with the way this season turned out for us. Considering the fact that our entire midfield, with the exception of Reg Nichols, was brand new at the start of the season, a third place finish is more than satisfactory. We figured to be destined to have a relegation match at the end of the season. Instead, our young midfielders performed quite well, and as usual, our defense often kept us in matches where we were otherwise outclassed.

With regards to those young midfielders, two players in particular have really stood out this season. The first is Javier Tejeda, our Chilean sparkplug. To be honest, we weren’t expecting all that much from Javier this season, but he turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Particularly memorable was his golden goal in the 5th round of the U.S. Open Cup, giving us a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes and propelling us to our first ever 6th round appearance.

The other midfielder to make a name for himself this season was less of a surprise. Swiss midfielder Gino Behling was quietly the most consistent performer for us in the midfield this season. He was identified early as perhaps the cream of our midfielder crop, and did not disappoint. He appeared in fifteen competitive matches for us this season, scoring twice.

The winger position opposite Reg Nichols remains the largest question mark for us going into this off-season. Walter Bosch, Ivan Richardy, and Ad Taxwell all continue to jockey for position, each hoping to become a regular starter opposite Reg, but none of them has really stood out ahead of the others as of yet. We will most likely continue to have a bit of a rotation between those three until one of them emerges as our go-to player for the left wing spot.

Overall, I have to say that our prospects are bright for the coming season. Big Reds have promoted out of The Series Of The Beast [tm], leaving a walkover in their place. We will still have to contend with the likes of Neon Genesis Evangelion (who schooled us pretty well this season) and the hated Croats in Miami, but I think we still have a shot at the series title, especially if our young midfielders continue to develop.

Until next season…

Dat A. King.

Author's Note: And with that, I hereby close this chapter in the continuing tale of the Screamin' Seamen Football Club. A new thread will be started shortly, as we continue on into the club's sixth season.

A couple of things to look forward to in the new thread:

1. Format Change: This dynasty report is beginning to feel rather dry and too statistic-heavy for my tastes, so I will be changing the format significantly. Expect to see more a narrative format next season, taking the form of newspaper articles, press conferences, and the like. I also intend to use a radio/TV-broadcast format for matches (and you'll never guess who will be handling the color commentary. ).

2. Nickname Competition: In the spirit of my old Kansas Jayhawks Football Dynasty, and because I love having nicknames for my players, I'll be running a nickname competition next season. And this time, the reward will be something at least semi-substantial; the official (Hattrick) support of the Screamin' Seamen for the coming season.

Thank you all for reading.

Woo-- I mean, and I'm sure meanstrosity agrees, since I think we were the only two who ever read it, where the hell is it
