2005 Conference Championship Results

Oilers Crush Steelers 35-0

The Steelers went to Houston without Terry Bradshaw, and the results weren't pretty. Backup QB Mitch Subramanian was 11 for 24 for 88 yards and 2 INTs before he left the game with a hip pointer. Undrafted third-string QB Lee Sparrow was 3 for 6 for 24 yards and 1 INT. RB Franco Harris rushed 12 times for 45 yards.

It was the Campbell and Moon show for the Oilers. Campbell rushed 24 times for 84 yards and 2 TDs, and Moon was 25 of 32 for 257 yards and 2 TDs - both caught by Campbell.

Houston heads back to the Super Bowl for the third time in four years.

Redskins Scalp Maroons 32-23

Key injuries to the Maroons finally caught up, as St. Louis was unable to generate much of a rushing attack without RB Leeland McElroy, and the depleted defense had no solution for Redskins RB John Riggins and QB Sonny Jurgenson.

Maroons QB Bucky Richardson managed to complete 21 of 29 passes for 293 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT, but reserve RB Coffey only managed 65 yards on 21 carries.

Riggins carried 27 times for 119 yards and 1 TD, and Jurgenson was 11 of 13 for 157 yards and 3 TDs.

2005 Super Bowl Preview

The upstart Washington Redskins are 4 point favorites against the Houston Oilers - a team chock full of veterans that have been here before and know what it takes to win it all.

Both teams feature high powered offenses led by all-pro QB's and tough, smash-mouth running backs. The Oilers have a slight advantage in the wide receiver department, as the Redskins are without Gary Clark.

This game could come down to special teams, giving the Redskins a slight edge, as they have a pro-bowl caliber kicker and punter.

Oilers Win Title Again 35-32

QB Warren Moon Named Super Bowl MVP

In a championship game that featured two great offenses and not much defense, the Houston Oilers came out on top, winning their second Super Bowl.

MVP Warren Moon was 25 of 34 for 311 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT. RB Earl Campbell had an enormous day, running all over the Redskins for 206 yards on 31 carries and 1 TD. Earnest Givens led the Oilers in receiving, catching 9 passes for 129 yards and 1 TD.

For the Redskins, RB John Riggins carried 18 times for 100 yards and 1 TD. Sonny Jurgenson was 16 of 27 for 230 yards and 3 TDs.

Alright... I'm going to try to sim through the TCY season today. Start thinking up draftee suggestions.

New rules:

* Only 24 suggestions allowed - one for every player on the field. That means:

1 QB
1 RB
1 FB
1 TE
2 WR
1 C
2 G
2 T

2 DE
2 DT
3 LB
2 CB
2 S

*** Edit - add 1 K and 1 P

These are probably the draft suggestion rules I am going to implement for the new FOF2K4 league. I'm also planning to devise a suggestion order in which the team owners make the suggestions in the order they finished - I.E., the Super Bowl winner makes the first suggestion, and so on.

Basically, the bottom feeders would get first pick, but wouldn't have any control over who gets supplemented into the draft.

For the purposes of this dynasty, it doesn't matter - supplement slots are taken on a first-come-first-serve basis.

2006 TCY Update

Placerville U. finished 8-3 this year, and won the Solecismic Eight Conference Title. They were invited to the Happy Fun Bowl against North Texas, and won 21-18. Placerville finished the season ranked 33rd in the nation.

Clemson beat Georgia in the National Title game. QB Benjamin Cash of Georgia was named Player of the Year.

The overall grade for this season was 64. Our recruiting class was decent, but probably not as strong as last season.

Well, as the rules state above, we can only have so many of each player. From your list, and the list of guys that have already been submitted, I can add everyone but Kubiak and Guthrie.

I have no control over whether a guy ends up as an OLB or ILB - the draft file only specifies "LB" and his position is determined by FOF upon import. Same goes for Safeties.

Don't worry, I'm notoriously dense- I just missed it.

Well, for those who didn't know, Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto. And as I found out in my astronomy class last semester (took a calc based astronomy class for one of my science electives), they celebrate Clyde Day at KU every Feb 18th. Oh, and I was also informed that since I go to KU, my official stance is that Pluto is and always will be a planet

Man, 49ers can't get to the big game. Way to be for Roger Craig, but how come Montana never gets even second-team recognition? Oh well...

PS - Keep up the good work

A horse colonic? I'm not sure I want to know what all that entails.

Sounds like something The Afoci would enjoy though...

Actually, the horse had colic, and then had a full colonic (and then some).

Six feet of twisted small intestine required surgery that involved removing 80 feet of intestines and flushing them out, then putting them back in place properly.

As for me, well, you could say I had a colonic... I'm feeling ass-raped after seeing the bill...

Well, she's doing better now. After colic surgery, the hardest part is getting the horse to stand up without freaking out and breaking a leg or busting a stitch or something - which she did just fine. The other thing to worry about is whether or not the intestines start working again after basically shutting down (apparently, horse intestines are supposed to be constantly moving - vets know there's a problem when they can't hear anything with a stethoscope). So far, there's been very little noise in the small intestine area, and that needs to improve. Once that happens, she's pretty much out of the woods, and I can stop paying for her stay at the equine ICU at UC Davis.

2006 Pre Season Report

All the seed players are in the last years of their deals. That means I'm about to sign 8 really big new contracts. Free agency next year should be interesting, as I doubt the AI will do as well.

No staff hires this year - we're pretty happy with how well we've done with our current staff.

Ticket prices are going up - the roster costs are about to get steep.

The draft is imported. WR James Monroe appears to have won the lion's share of the import randomization. Too bad I don't have a first round pick this year...

Although it doesn't look like there's any great talent in free agency this year, I decide to re-negotiate my necessary contracts before the period starts, just so I know how much cash I have to play with. Here's a breakdown:

RB John Riggins: "The Diesel" is arguably the most important part of the offense right now - especially since Jurgenson is going to be short one WR, as it appears Gary Clark's knee will take a year to heal. He signs a very reasonable 4 year $8.3 million deal. Like most contracts I sign, it's very balanced over the duration of the deal, so there are no bad cap hits later on.

QB Sonny Jurgenson: I'm not going to win a title without him, and I'm sure he knows that. Still, I get him at $12 million over 4 years.

LT Joe Jacoby: The man that anchors the offensive line and protects Sonny's blind side. $10 million over 4 years.

K Lou Groza: Not a "seed" player, but an important piece of the puzzle. $6.1 million over 5 years.

NT Dave Butz: He's the cornerstone of the defense. An awesome run stopper, and a decent pass rusher as well. $10 million over 4 years.

FB Brian Mitchell: Again, not a seed player, but a nice addition to the passing attack. Averaged 40 catches over the last 3 years. Economical at $5 million over 4 years.

SE Art Monk: Although I had hoped he would have turned out better, he's still solid, and is the best healthy starting WR we have. He's been oft-injured the last three years, and signs for $7.2 million over 4 years.

LCB Darrell Green: His attributes don't look fantastic, but he's racked up 35 INTs in four seasons, and has only missed one game. He's a four-time all-pro. $8.3 million over 4 years.

LG Russ Grimm: Not an all-star, but a solid lineman. $7.2 million over 4 years.

QB Heath Shuler: The backup. Let's hope he stays that way. $3.1 million over 3 years.

SLB LaVar Arrington: Won't ever achieve overall greatness due to early career injuries. $4.6 million over 3 years.

With these signings complete, I now have $21 million in cap space, with an estimated $20 million available next season. I expect that a lot of seed players are going to move next year - I should have enough cash to take my pick of whoever is available.

I skip the free agency period and move right to the draft. I expect it to be an uneventful one, as I have no first round pick, and not a lot of trade bait to fish with.

In round 2, QB Mike McMahon is available, so I select him. My #2 QB Shaun Morabito doesn't look like he's going to develop into much, so after the selection, I trade him to Denver along with some late round picks for their first round pick next season.

In round 3, I take ILB Deon Reeves from UAB. I need LB help pretty badly.

In round 6, I select SS Al Starks from Oklahoma State. I need help at safety, too. He's not much good, but he might be better than what I have.

In round 7, I select ILB Jerome Bell from Texas Tech. I doubt he'll make the roster.

Here's the first two rounds of the draft. I've attached a .txt file with the full draft results.
