It's brutal. Nobody had a losing record, and yet only the divisional leader got to go, because they beat the crap out of each other and lost the conference record tiebreaker.

2006 Wild Card Round Preview

Baltimore at Cincinnati (-8)

I don't think I've seen an 8 point favorite in the playoffs in this league before. Baltimore has QB Johnny Unitas, and not much else. Cincinnati will be without RB Eddie Cabot and WR Fred Biletnikoff for the rest of the season, but the Reservoir Dogs still look a lot stronger than the Colts in this game.

Jacksonville (-4) at Denver

The Jaguars are suffering from a rash of injuries. QB Vinny Testaverde, FB Gerald Riggs, and DE Tony Brackens are all out for the season. Fortunately, the Jags have QB Mark Brunell backing up Testaverde. The Broncos are the AFC West sacrificial lamb this year, and they're without TE Shannon Sharpe.

Mos Eisley at St. Louis (-2)

For the Banthas, WR Han Solo is listed as probable, and LB Emperor Palpatine is listed as questionable, but the biggest loss is QB Luke Skywalker, who is out for the year with a torn rotator cuff. The Maroons have their share of injury problems, with QB Bucky Richardson and LB Quentin Coryatt listed as probable, DE Brandon Mitchell listed as doubtful, and RB Leeland McElroy is out.

San Francisco (-5) at Minnesota

The 49ers are missing DE Charles Haley. They're otherwise healthy. The Vikings, on the other hand, look like a medical nightmare. Their injury report contains 15 players, including DE Lance Johnstone and RB Leroy Hoard listed as doubtful, QB Sean Salisbury and DT Jason Fisk listed as questionable, and LB Franklin Noble and DT Brian Young listed as probable.

***Note: I forgot to turn the box scores back on for this round. Doh!!

Baltimore 17, Cincinnati 20

Jacksonville 27, Denver 25

Mos Eisley 28, St. Louis 24

San Francisco 27, Minnesota 24

None of the favorites beat the spread, and one of them (St. Louis) was beaten outright. Good weekend to bet the underdog.

2006 Divisional Round Preview

Cincinnati (-1) at New England

The Patriots are missing WR Paul Revere, and DE Sam Adams is listed as probable. The Reservoir Dogs had a hard time with a pretty weak Baltimore team last week, and will need to step it up to prevail at New England.

Jacksonville at Arkham (-2)

The Avengers host their first playoff game ever, and head into the offseason relatively healthy, with no starters out. Jacksonville is significantly more experienced in the postseason, but is also significantly more injured.

Mos Eisley at Washington (-7)

LB LaVar Arrington is slowed a bit from a case of turf toe, but aside from that, the Redskins are healthy and hungry to get back to the Super Bowl. Their first task is to dispatch an injury-weakend Banthas team.

San Francisco at Moe's Tavern(-5)

The Brawlers have minor injuries to QB Al Coholic and TE Anita Bath, but both are expected to play. FB Maya Buttreeks is out for the season. The Brawlers seem to be a little too heavily favored in this contest, and the 49ers may be out to prove a lot of odds makers wrong.

Patriots Rally Late, Beat Dogs In OT 27-24

A touchdown pass from Owen Hunter with just 1:03 left to play in the game tied the contest for New England, and the Patriots advanced on a 29 yard field goal from kicker Randal Sterne.

Cincinnati QB Joe Cabot put up big numbers in the losing effort, completing 30 of 44 passes for 354 yards and 2 TDs. For the Patriots, QB Owen Hunter was 23 of 37 for 317 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT.

Avengers Beat Jaguars 28-18

Jacksonville backup QB Mark Brunell passed for 328 yards and 1 TD in his first career playoff start, but the Jaguars were unable to overcome Arkham.

Avengers QB Azathoth was 24 of 38 for 242 yards and 2 TDs. RB J.T. Carpenter rushed 16 times for 79 yards and 1 TD.

Redskins Stomp Banthas 37-9

It'll be a long trip back to Mos Eisley for the Banthas, as they were only able to score 3 field goals in Washington.

Banthas QB Bo Guffey was 19 of 34 for 314 yards, and threw 2 interceptions - both of which were returned for TDs. RB Princess Leia was chained up all day - carrying the ball 21 times but managing only 57 yards.

The Force was with Redskins RB John Riggins, who carried 17 times for 120 yards (7.0 YPC) and 1 TD. QB Sonny Jurgenson was 20 of 32 for 260 yards and 1 TD.

Niners Lose To Brawlers 22-26

Brawlers RB Seymore Butz ran all over the 49ers, racking up 141 yards and 2 TDs on 26 carries. His teammate Al Coholic threw for 280 yards and 1 TD as Moe's Tavern sent San Francisco home for the holidays.

Niners QB Joe Montana was 21 of 42 for 218 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. RB Roger Craig was effective, and argued after the game that he should have gotten the ball more. He had 88 yards on 19 carries and 2 TDs.

Moe's Tavern at Washington (-5)

Brawlers WR Oliver Clothesoff went out last week with a hip pointer, and is listed as doubtful against the Redskins. Washington has unfinished business in the Super Bowl, and their only obstacle at this point is overconfidence.

New England at Arkham (-3)

The Avengers have been a good team that has underperformed for years, and this season, they seem to be making up for lost time. They managed to overcome the loss of RB Cthulu last week, who went down early with a strained adductor muscle, and is probably lost for the season. The Patriots are still a solid team, and could pull an upset on the road.

Redskins Return To Super Bowl, Beat Brawlers 33-13

The Washington Redskins, led by the offensive onslaught of Sonny Jurgenson and John Riggins, are heading back to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.

Riggins rushed 24 times for 141 yards and 1 TD. Jurgenson completed 17 of 26 passes for 204 yards and 3 TDs. He also ran 8 times for 64 yards.

Brawlers RB Seymour Butz rushed 14 times for 79 yards. QB Al Coholic was 19 of 41 for 230 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

Patriots Stun Avengers 20-7

The New England Patriots built up a 17 point lead at Arkham by halftime, and the Avengers never recovered.

Patriots RB Van Kangas rushed 27 times for 143 yards, and QB Owen Hunter was 21 of 29 for 325 yards and 2 TDs.

The Avengers weren't able to generate much of a rushing game without starting RB Cthulu, and QB Azathoth was largely ineffective, completing 22 of 42 passes for 192 yards and no TDs.

New England vs. Washington (-6)

The Redskins are an easy favorite in this contest, as they return to the title game with the same squad that went last season, and a bitter taste in their mouths from their narrow defeat at the hands of the Houston Oilers.

The New England Patriots make their first trip to the Super Bowl, and none of them intend to play like they're "just happy to be here." This is a team that has been underrated throughout the playoffs, and expects to prove their critics wrong once and for all.

Riggo Runs Over Patriots, Redskins Win Title 38-13

New England couldn't put the brakes on "The Diesel," and John Riggins drove Washington to their first Super Bowl title.

Riggins carried 24 times for 173 yards and 1 TD, averaging an unholy 7.2 yards per carry. He was also the Redskins leading receiver, with 5 catches for 51 yards.

Redskins QB Sonny Jurgenson was 16 of 20 for 180 yards and 2 TDs.

Patriots RB Van Kangas couldn't get going, carrying 18 times for just 40 yards. QB Owen Hunter was 21 of 38 for 260 yards and 1 TD, but was sacked 4 times by the stifling Redskins defense. Somehow, this performance earned him game MVP honors.

Alright... so I'm thinking that now that I've won a title with the Redskins, I should entertain the possibility of taking over another team. This might be good for the dynasty, as it probably would keep more readers interested, and now is as good a time as any to switch, as all the "seed" players should be at the end of their contracts, and thus the free agency pool should be nicely stocked in the off-season.

Of course, it pains me to even think of doing this - I've got Washington built up to right where I want them, and with plenty of cap space, I could snag a few FA's and really establish a long-term dynasty here.

The other consideration is the pending arrival of FOF2K4 - should I just play this game out as-is, and spend more time working on building a similarly-styled multiplayer league?

***Edit: I've added a poll. Go Vote!

Ok, I like that Jax drafted my guy, but picking a kicker in the 1st round is probably why we didn't go further in the playoffs...

Um, did Warren retire, or what's up in Houston? I notice he didn't start a single game this year, so I'm almost hoping retirement instead of a season ending preseason injury.

Moon spent the entire season on IR with a ruptured achilles tendon. He's due back before training camp, but I hate how big injuries like that almost always seem to take a lot away from a player's ratings.

Redskins WR Gary Clark spent a season and a half injured... he was on IR all year, and is now healthy, but he's gone from a superstar WR with ratings in the high 90's to very average... with his ratings now somewhere in the low 60's. And I'm stuck with his fat contract.

2007 Pre-pre Season Report

I'm still entertaining the switching teams option while I go and sim the TCY season.

As expected, there are a TON of seed players available for free agency. Some will no doubt get tagged as franchise players, but for the most part, it's open season on these guys.

The following teams are offering GM jobs:

* Buffalo
* Chicago
* Denver
* Green Bay

Here's a brief analysis of each team:

Buffalo:

Stadium built in 1973, in "average" condition. Seats 75,300. No construction plans. Fan loyalty at about 30%. No support for new stadium. Only seed player is OJ Simpson - currently a free agent, but he can be tagged. $45 million in cap space. Franchise value at $392 million (bottom 3rd of the league). Roster rated 65, Economy rated 34, Stadium rated 13, Support rated 65.

Chicago:

Stadium built in 2003, in "good" condition. Seats 66,000. Fan loyalty at about 75%. Lots of remaining seed players - but none under contract. Walter Payton's skills have been severly diminished by injury. Jim Miller is still a decent QB. Lots of strength on defense - IF the free agents can be re-signed. Offense needs help either way. $61 million in cap space. Franchise value at $401 million. Stadium rated 27, Roster rated 0, Support rated 86, Economy rated 61.

Denver:

Stadium built in 2001. Seats 76,100 - "Very Good" condition. Fan Loyalty at about 60%. Only seed player is TE Shannon Sharpe - not under contract. AI has drafted pretty well on this team - lots of young talent on offense and defense. $38 million in cap space. Franchise valued at $419 million. Stadium rated 37, Roster rated 34, Support rated 79, Economy rated 34.

Green Bay:

Stadum built in 1957. Seats 71,000 - "Average" condition. No construction planned. Fan loyalty at 50%. Only seed player is LT Tony Mandarich - not under contract. Awesome QB prospect in Walt Church - appears under-utilized, but great potential. Some limited young talent elsewhere. $40 million in cap space. Franchise valued at $335 million - second to last in the league. Stadium rated 15, Roster rated 0 (???), Support rated 73, Economy rated 42.

And, of course, I should include our current situation:

Washington:

Stadium built in 1997. Seats 80,100 - Very Good condition. Fan loyalty at 100%. All seed players under contract. Roster is loaded. $21 million in cap space. Franchise is valued at $636 million - best in the league by $70 million. Stadium rated 50, Roster rated 100, Support rated 99, Economy rated 58.

I'll ponder the options while I sim the TCY season... feel free to share your thoughts.

Maybe changes things up a bit and head over to the AFC...give the rest of us in the NFC East...or NFC for that matter...a chance!!!

If this dynasty ends (at least this version) when the new FOF comes out, I don't see a point in changing.

Either stick with Washington, or try out Denver in the AFC. No need to build another NFC powerhouse, we have enough of those.

That's sort of what I'm thinking... FOF2K4 is due any day now. I don't know how soon I'll be able to get it, but chances are, there's going to be little interest in a continuation of this dynasty at that point. If I were to switch, I'd probably lean towards Buffalo or Denver, and I'd need a few seasons to re-build either team.

Go with Denver...

Damn, still no UTEP award winners. Unless you count Seth Joyner, but I didn't create him specifically as a UTEP guy. But he did play for the Miners...

2007 TCY Update

One thing about playing in the Solecismic 8... the schedule is usually a walk-over once you get some good recruits in the system.

The drawback, of course, is that you get no respect.

Placerville U. went undefeated, but got nothing more than another invite to the Happy Fun Bowl. They won, and finished the season ranked 5th in the nation. QB J.T. Meyer finished with the 6th best QB rating in the nation. Placerville had the 5th best rushing offense in the nation.

San Diego State won the National Championship. WR Frank Dallesandro from Clemson was named player of the year.

Hmm... I expected to have a bunch of Texas - El Paso players listed by now.

I'm still undecided about whether or not to switch teams... but I know I'd be beating the crap out of the AI with the team I have now.

Just an update... My current employment status may have delayed this dynasty a bit. All of the game files I had were on my laptop, which I had to return to the company. I did, however, own the hard drive in the laptop, and as soon as I am able to mount it on my home PC, I will be able to continue here.

Plans for a FOF2K4 league are also on hold, as I don't presently have the recreational funds available to buy the game.

I second the opinion...get your real life stuff done first.
