Have you noticed how old Mounties team is? Outside of keeper trainees, I think they average 31 years old. A couple of injuries and his team is done . . .

New plan (evil grin) . . .

Depends on what you want. I bet in the long run, the costs are roughly equal. There's a lot more turnover if you play with older guys. Plus, you have to worry about them decreasing in quality rather than increasing. Still, I'm firmly in favor of using them as hole fillers.

Heheh,

I agree with you SI. Older players do have their place. However, you can't build your team on them. You use them to fill holes.

The average age of Mounties starters is 28.7 years old. This includes 7 starters who are 30 years old or higher and one who is 29.

On the contrary, my team has 4 players who are starting that are 30 years old or older. My team averages 25.1 years old for the starters.

Granted this isn't a good comparison because I train strikers and he trains keepers. You take trainees out and you get Mouties at 29.7 average age and Gargs at 27.6 average age.

I think that Mounties will have short term success with their players, but it will be nearly impossible to continue to improve the team.

My goal is to usually turn over 3-4 players a year to continue improving 1/4 to 1/3 of my team each season. However, with older players, you are investing in depreciating assets, so you never get back what you paid to fill those holes. They are necessary, but should not be used abundantly. At some point your team will implode.

my starters ages:

31 28 28 26 24 23 21(t) 21(t) 20(t) 20 18 ..

avg age = 21.73 (without trainees = 22.25)
avg exp = 3.18 (without trainees = 3.38)

I think I did a fairly good job at rotating older players out and getting decent replacements.. the 31y winger is only there to get exp while my future coach gets back his form so I can play him there.. and the two 28y's were cheap and fill ins ..

but you're right.. mountain is gonna hafta replace them much sooner than you.. and definately much sooner than I..

Well, I mucked it. I decided to PIC the match because I feel that I understand this series better than Mounties. I don't think that His Royal Cockiness understands that in our series, anybody can beat anybody and on any given Sunday . . . well you know how that goes.

My TS was suffering and it made a great recovery this week. I know that I have a couple of tough games over the next two weeks against two teams that are fighting for their IV.19 lives. I won't take them for granted.

I hate mucking games.

howdy howdy all,

I am back to my college home now so I'll be around quite a bit for the next few weeks. I've been doing my part of the evil plan and took both from greg. I goofed up pretty badly tho and let his conference talk get me to normal the match tonight. My TS is shitty but whatta ya gonna do right?

As for age, I think you guys are dead on. Get the older guys to fill holes and that's it. My two good middies are in 22 and 28. I am pretty sure I can get 3-5 more seasons out of the 28 year old if I don't want to sell him. I am filling my other middie with two olders fellows that I am fishing at the same time. My best CD is 23 and my new scorer is only 23 as well. I've got a 28 year old winger that I'll prolly use the same as Gottman, play him until he can't go any more. I think I am going to try to fish Foster next season too. It is so difficult to find a winger with the 2ndary qualities to be great. Both my other defenders are 26 and I've got a 23 year old that could fill in in a pinch.

On a different note, I have decided that I cannot have a great team training keeper. I currently have one of the better 17 year olds in the USA and I will take a shot at getting him on the U20 team, but if it isn't looking good, and if I end up dropping to V next season, I'll be switching to either defender or scoring.

Good luck to everyone in the next couple of weeks, and I'll be playing my best each game to stay here, b/c hey, I really really want to be the all time matches leader in IV. I can't let Evillive take that away from me

Yeah, I think that the only way to get a good winger cheap is to train them yourself. Alot of people shy away from only being able to train 4 players (plus 1/2 training for 4 wing backs) per week. I've been considering it, but I'm so far sold into scoring training, that I don't think that I would be able to afford such a switch.

So, as normal, I can't cut a break in the FOFC Cup... so the #2 seed overall will not make it into the 2nd round.

Yeah I'm having a little trouble in the FOFC cup this year also. I lost my first match by 3 goals, won my second by 4. Now I am in a predicament that I need to beat the #2 seed in group by 3 goals if I want to ensure that I move to the next round.

All this and one of my trainees got injured for 3 weeks in the last FOFC cup match.

Grrr . . .

booo, i put my starting keeper as a sub for my trainee keeper in my friendly last week, and he ended up playing winger when he got hurt... no training this week

Looks like i'm starting to slip back into my stupid mistakes.

Raven, you better watch out this week, i'm going to 5-3-2 your arse... jk. I may be mixing it up a bit depending on my market ventures the next couple of days, or I might save up some TS and see what I can do against the fockers.

btw, how can i get into the fofc cup for next season?

Lol

Sorry about no Preds, lytic. I was out of town skiing and gambling this weekend. Got back in the middle of the matches. Not that I would have made any predictions anyhow.

Bluey, sorry that I couldn't PIC you and give you the win, but I want to keep Mounties honest. My ratings this week surprised even me. I did just normal it. I'm saving a little TS for Greg's next week.

Grats on the win, lytic.

no biggie, i expect we all play as well as we can. i could've gone without the 89th minute tho, you aren't going to have to worry about foster at all hobbes (not that he could put a shot away last night)

looks like we are top of IV again. Man, i'm going to miss this series. Oh well, go down to five, build up some supporters and maybe switch my training and who knows, i might get to see you all again in due time.

my bad on preds, i didn't want to jinx myself. I'll start doing some comparing tho and post some preds next week.

Bluey,

I wouldn't give up hope yet. You definitly have a better team than Evil or Greg's. It looks like Greg's is slipping really bad. Evil seems to be putting up a little bit of a fight. The big game for you will be trying to take care of Evil. In this division, anybody CAN beat anybody. I bet that you can squirt out another 2-3 wins this season and get a qualifier. I'm calling my bookie right now.

Don't do it for the Gargs, do it for yourself. Being 9 points out of 1st with 6 games left doesn't mean you're out of the running for the division, especially when you have games left against myself and Mounties.

After this week against Greg, I am going to be running the gauntlet as I like to call it:

Arsenal at home.
SPC away.
Fockers at home.

The only good thing that I have going is that two of those games are at home.

Of course I won't be sad if you can manage to beat Mounties.

welp, i'm do all I can to beat evil, but I've got to get another one somewhere, and I don't think I can beat the cows away, or mounties, and prolly not AAC either. Without Foster, I don't think I can do a thing against you Hobbes, so here's the deal. I am putting up some of my players for slightly ridiculous prices, and if they go, then I'll ship out the rest of the oldies (26 and up). I'll take what's left of my supporters and try to jump you guys after next season

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I don't want to lose The Chocolate Diaz from our series. You can beat anybody in the series. Just get a little TS!

By Chocolate Diaz, I hope you know that I'm referring to your midfielder, Ramon.

yup, picked up on that one, he is a funny little choco loco from mexico. We'll see what happens, I'm not giving up, just seeing if someone with cash is desperate enough to overspend and give me an extra million or so combined. I think Donny Foster would be great for someone making a stretch run in III or II. He can only go another 2 seasons max for me anyway. I'd really really really like to start training strikers tho, as that's my glaring weakness, but I've got two stud keepers and one has a shot at U20 so I'll prolly be doing that for a couple of more seasons anyway.

Like I said, i'm not giving up, just preparing for the worst, and I'll adjust to the best. We'll see if the ole hulis have anything left in them this season.

Unfortunately, I am in a young stretch for my striker trainees, or I would offer up a trade. I'm sure that lytic would caution you against it seeing how Jukka Orkola's form took a nose dive after our busted trade.

My best striker is about to hit outstanding this week, then I have 3 formidables, 1 solid and 1 young passable.

gg Hobbes -- I think i got pretty lucky, losing possesion, losing a defender, and my other defender as my worst performer of the day. I can't imagine how you didn't score a goal. Greg = fun time for all, all of us that is. You oughta wallop him pretty good and get back ahead of evil and I. I think Evillive took your crown as the tie king tho. I think that's three now this season.

I'm still pissed at my 3-0 loss... my defense vs his attack was so much better than his defense vs my (central) attack.
Granted I didn't attack the wings too much, but I didn't get a sniff of the net.

I'm hopin' by next season I can get that divine D going. I seriously need a new forward though... my "mole" is killin me. He was in INAD form this week for the first time in like 3 months!!!

I was quite upset with the score in your game, too lytic. I was watching as he went up 2-0 in the first half. It wasn't pretty. Did you even get any CA chances with your brilliant CA? Just curious.

If the mole was doing what I paid him to do, he would have been in excellent form this week. Damn you Orkola! No more paychecks for you!

What do you guys do as for as spokespersons? I had 10 all season long, and even during the losing streak, I got about 12 supporters per week. After the win this past week, and the move up the rankings, I only got 8, so prolly 16 this week. I went ahead and fired 6 of them for the rest of the season, thinking that perhaps I need them early in the season, and halfway point on prolly not so much. What do you think?

I have 10 as well. I've been getting 8-10 supporters per win and 4-5 per loss/tie.

This past week Buster went from Inad PM'ing to Passable. What other guy can say that when he's in decent form he's started for a team from the Get-Go.. 1.5 years ago. Not only has he played for so many seasons now, but he has also been the team captain for every match he plays. Buster will be looking to obtain 4* this week. As you can see.. he also still gives 100% day in and day out. What a true player.

Do you have anyone that can match Buster? Also.. I need a good nickname for this guy.. any ideas?
