Survivor: Blood vs Water (spoilers inside)

I'm not so sure what to think of the premiere. There were some good moments and some questionable ones.

On the good side, I think the family dynamics will make for a very interesting post-merge game. Also, I really like both Aras and Vytas and hope they both go far. There were other players with promise. I've never liked Tyson in the past, but that was a good debut for him. And I like to see an old school person (Tina) do really well. Props to the cameraman for the shots of Tina's daughter.

On the bad side, Redemption Island sucks. The "replace your loved ones" twist sucks. The lack of a reward challenge (which I suspect will be season long) sucks. Many of the players are insufferable. Someone please tell Brad to shut up, even if his attempt to do math was hilarious. Gervase proved that he learned nothing from the 25 seasons of Survivor that followed his last appearance.

Rupert once again proved his horrible strategic skills in a stupid attempt to play this hero role that he thinks is how someone should play Survivor. (I HATE people who try to play like this!) He actually put both him and his wife in worse situation. Even if he wins his way back, he won't have any allies, having alienated his original tribe. And now his wife is a new player on the returnee tribe, which is not a good situation.

Hated the Ruppert stuff, not just because it was a dumb move, but because I wanted to watch him play, now I'm watching him sit around.

The returnees paddling around in circles was great to watch, as was Gervase's douchebag celebrating.

Love that Cullpepper is such an idiot, it was enjoyable watching him be a moron. He's the kind of guy I'll enjoy watching until he gets voted out, unlike someone like Philip.

Love whoever the girl is on the newbies who failed at the puzzle, the one with the wide hips, mmmm.

It has potential, but I think the hook of people having to choose between themselves or their loved ones is perhaps not as compelling in execution as it is on paper. The folks on these shows skew towards self-centered and narcissistic personalities, so the impact of those tortuous decisions are lessened a bit IMO

regardless, it was a freaking dull episode

I will be rooting for Colton to go home every.single.week. The second they started to try painting him in a good light (faaaaake) he then already starts threatening his teammates in the challenge.

"Oh, Heeellll no" funniest line tonight.

Edited: errr last night.

I enjoyed this one much more than the first (Colton notwithstanding, of course). the extra strategy of the being able to effect the other tribe with your vote added another layer to the intrigue.

They were showing one of those night vision sceens where everyone is sitting around talking. Tyson was sitting up on a rock with his leg spread and Aras was leaning against Tyson who had his arms wrapped arounf Aras neck. It was very gay.

Here's the thing. It's stupid to switch tribes. It makes no sense from a strategic standpoint. The duels could be anything and a physically fit person doesn't necessarily have an advantage in many of them. Furthermore, the loved one you just saved just became an outsider on your former tribe and likely the first boot the next time they vote someone out. Also, you pissed off your original tribe by deserting them.

I really hope Tyson understands this.

Agreed.

I thought it was stupid of John to push his own agenda so hard. He just needs to agree with them and let his wife handle herself.

CBS needs to put a feature on its web site that says "Email me when Colton is off the show so I can start watching again".

Took me a moment to notice who it was. By the body language I expected the person in the back to be a girl and my first thought was "they are here with loved ones and trying to get with someone on their own tribe?"... then I realized who it was and I was even more confused.

I love how the strategy is playing out in this season. It's a really cool concept and I'd like to see them do it again, but without returnees. I think we're learning alot about the strategy and if it does happen again, people will adjust how they play. Giving the clues to your loved one puts a target on their back, so maybe don't do it. Switching places with your loved one is stupid and doesn't help either of you, so don't do it.

Brad is dumb. He thinks he's running things, but doesn't realize that the others are using him as a shield. He'll get voted out soon after the merge.

Caleb is probably in a better position. Colton would've only screwed up Caleb's postmerge game.

What are the Vegas odds that as soon as the show is over Colton says he did what he did to help Caleb out. "It was all a plan."

I'm always amazed at how people who end up on the short end always lose their lids and seem to completely forget that it's a game they're playing.

I wish Brad would have turned to them after the immunity challenge and just said "Congratulations, someone you love is getting voted out tonight. Good job."

Wow, what a great tribal council and a great season this has been. Total respect for Caleb. That was a big time Survivor move and no matter how far he makes it, he will be remembered for that.

I wonder why more people don't use that move when a tribe is relatively even -- just wait until you get to Tribal, then announce that you want to blindside someone and encourage others to come with you.

It seems riskier than trying to do it in secret, but that blows up on people so often that you wonder if it's the better play.

REally bad move by Brad by threatening Caleb at the tribal council. By calling out to his insecurities Caleb was almost forced to make that move. It was really awesome. I definitely appreciate Brad taking it well though. The guy probably doesn't need the money.

really disappointed in Laura B. She does such an amazing job as Tyrion on Game of Thrones, but that impish charisma just hasn't been there on Survivor. I guess the writers are to blame

It's actually turned out to be a better season than my very low expectations were for it. It's actually added a few strategy twists to the game.

I liked the fact that, after all the fuss about Laura being determined to make it back off Redemption Island to re-unite with her daughter, Ciera didn't seem to be too happy to have her back.

Ciera's reaction to her mom paired with how her mom was acting with the guys prior to her being voted to redemption island the first time makes me question what their family interaction is like at home a bit. They come across a little dysfunctional.

I thought this season was going to be an abomination and it's actually turned out to be one of my favorite seasons in recent memory. You were right and I was wrong, Survivor casting people. But I still hate Redemption Island and LOATHE post-merge RI with every fiber of my being.

yeah, a bit. she's definitely moved from plain and frumpy to kind of cute.

Meanwhile, Vytas is clearly that dude you know that all your female friends swoon over (OMG he does yoga. OH he's SOOOO sensitive HIS EYES ARE LIKE REFLECTIVE POOLS) while you grumble that he's really just a big phony douchebag.

I'm still enjoying the hell out of the season although there isn't really that one fun person to root for at the moment. I guess Tyson but he's so clearly outplaying everyone, mostly due to his prior experience. I'm kind of hoping Harden or Caleb step up soon.

i was just trying to decide the other night who i want to win...i am thinking for entertainment purposes that Hayden needs to win, and then at the finale, when Kat tries to congratulate him, he needs to dump her while saying

"bitch, i won...you didnt even make the merge..we are done"

Caleb is starting to feel like a real contender. Not only does he have the whole "important character at the beginning, completely forgotten in the middle" pattern going that winners often get, but he could actually ride coattails all the way to the final now and still play the "I made the biggest move of the whole game when I back-stabbed Culpepper" card.

Great episode that showed that this game isn't over yet. Tyson is playing a great game, but now others are scrambling at the right time (as in...before it's really too late) and anything can happen now.

Everybody is uncomfortable now, makes for a good finish, I think!

Katie drawing the white rock was a big blow though. If Tyson or even Monica had gone out there it would have really changed the game. Despite the Monica stuff in the preview, the remaining alliance should be in control here...unless Laura comes back into the game soon

Except that he has an idol, and presumably the next vote would be his last chance to play it.

You have to think Tyson needs to win the final immunity challange to get to the final 3. Gervais may be dumb enough to think he can beat Tyson at the jury but Monica isn't that stupid. If you are Monica I think the ideal final 3 is you, Gervais and Ciera. Gervais won't get credit because he rode coattails, and Ciera I think pissed enough people off that she won't get the votes. If Hayden somehow gets to the final 3 I think he wins easily, and of course there is the wild card of someone from redemption coming back into the game.
