Sounds like tonight's Trump rally ended up abandoning thousands of people at the venue that it had bussed in and then neglected to pick up.

Perfect microcosm of how he runs the country. Gets what he wants then leaves everyone out in the cold.

I hate the guy just as much as anyone, but there are a few people involved in that process that could have screwed that up.

Lame as shit, that's for sure.

Do they not work for him and his campaign though? It just illustrates how the guy is perfectly willing to take all the credit when it goes well and none of the blame when it doesn’t.

I just went to a couple of Omaha local news websites. One mentions that the rally drew thousands. One didn't mention the rally. Neither mentioned the abandonment.

So while the GOP literally leaving a bunch of voters out in the cold is a great metaphor, it seems to be playing more with us snarky people out here than actually something that people in Nebraska are being made aware of.

what's a good republican way to spin that story?

It's not trumps fault, it's the local workers and police who helped hold the rally. Trump's job is to come, speak, then leave. Obama would've done the same thing.

Sure. Throw in a bit of praise for the police who were there and helped keep people safe during a difficult time, etc.

Ketv

Hundreds of people waited hours in the cold for buses after Trump rally in Omaha | Politics & Government | omaha.com

Some are starting to roll in. I don't know, maybe news doesn't quite travel at the speed of sound in Omaha. (First one though still is like "eh, cops drove folks from one side of the airport to the other.)

Trump campaign officials said they had enough buses ready nearby to shuttle people back to their cars, but said a larger-than-expected crowd, estimated by a reporter at 6,000 but by rally organizers as 29,000, slowed the buses’ return.

Well of course.

(Also, the attendees don't seem to care. Was much better than Cats! Would do again and again!)

I just saw something from the bus company that was chartered to provide the transportation (picture of a facebook post, so might be completely fake) saying that the Campaign promised (1) to pay them upon arrival and (2) that the passengers would all wear masks.

Then none of the passengers had masks and no one paid them, so they left.

If true, that makes a lot of sense. And it will give the GOP a good scapegoat--the Democrat-controlled bus company did this. Trump is outraged, etc. etc.

(No idea who controls the bus company, but they will say it is Democrat-controlled regardless of who owns it).

Put this together with the quote from above that had them estimating the crowd at 29K vs the local officials at 6K and it reads like, well, what you'd expect a Trump rally to be. Heck, we're probably all a little surprised they haven't had more of these stories.

I have no idea if that's a good poll or not.

But isn't being up only 20 with Hispanics actually a pretty bad result for a Democrat?

I think I'll work from home starting Wednesday until all this gets sorted out. Something's got to give. Doesn't bode well for stability.

It just illustrates perfectly the correlation between peoples opinions and where they get their media from. It is all about confirmation bias.

Hmm. My theory that Trump might lose people because they don't want to support a "loser" presupposed that his likely voters paid attention to things outside their bubble. Turns out I made a pretty bad assumption there.

First and foremost, they believe Trump. The polls are lies told by lying liars, just as the fake news comes from the lying lamestream media.

It feels like 99% of my Biden supporting circle think Trump is going to win. They refuse to trust polls anymore. Some just don't want to get crushed again. My reasoning for being optimistic is that it's going to be shitty if Trump wins re-election no matter what. It won't be any better if I "prepare" for it. If Trump does lose as expected, then constantly being pessimistic about the polls and Biden's chances just caused anxiety for no reason.

Right, he has spent weeks saying that the only way he loses is if there is cheating and illegals voting. He still thinks he won the popular vote in 2016. If you are voting for Trump, you have no reason to think he's going to lose because the media is the #1 enemy.

Are you all ready for the Kellyanne heel-to-face turn about to drop? Kind of predictable and would explain A LOT but if she really did write the article in 2018 it's less easy to call hate her as much. If it really is her it would be such a long con that they pulled on EVERYONE though and so power-hungry still...

So going back to Hispanic voting for Biden, I'm at a bit of a loss why what's happening at the border hasn't caused it to be like 80%+ for Biden. The Border Wall is meant to keep out Hispanics more than any other race, and then families being seperated, and perhaps the horrible treatment of immigrants being held, so I am surprised that the number is so low. I know many Hispanics come from conservative evangelical families, but that can't be enough reason to supports Trump and Republicans can it?

At least here in Texas you’re talking about a lot of people who are Latino in the way that other Americans are Irish or Italian. It’s only a vague part of who they are, their families have been here for so many generations now that it just doesn’t matter all that much.

Interesting, I thought they were more connected to their "roots" than most ethnicities

I don't think it's even that rational. Even conservative news sources have been taking and largely reporting polls that show Trump is losing. Some are making the argument that the polls are wrong, but not all and this goes deeper than that.

There are a lot of people who have a "I got mine so fuck everyone else trying to get a piece of it" mentality. Hispanics probably aren't any different.

You've just described a scenario in which a portion of the electorate has strong pulls in both directions. Given that, it wouldn't surprise me to have them wind up on either side. There's also the fact that some immigrants actually are tougher on immigration than the general public - we've seen that demonstrated on this forum. So tbh, not really surprising at all to me. A lot of it is even in how you frame this; a lot of people who support the wall don't do so because it keeps out a certain race. There's more to it.
