The Oscars

Anyone watching? I guess I'm going to.

I can't recall a year where I've been more out of the loop on the nominated movies. I've seen a ton of movies this year, just none of these.

Same here..but since every network apparently "gave up" tonight on competing with ABC, there isn't much else on. Fox put "Bad Boys II" on here in DC, why?

The only thing I'm looking forward to is John Stewart, but all of his stuff will probably poorly written and lame.

I don't expect much out of Stewart. The show sucks the funny out of everyone.

However, it's the only place Billy Crystal is funny.

I don't know - I know there's not a great track record for these things of late, but I just have a feeling that Stewart's comedy will be a good fit.

all these hollywood awards shows piss me off. it's just a forum for the big stars to kiss each others asses and show off. Do any of them really need all the stuff they're getting in their $135,000 gift bags (or whatever the amount is, i think it's around that). That money could be spent feeding homeless people right there in LA, but no instead Heath Ledger gets a diamond encrusted digital camera.

WTF. blow me hollywood

George Clooney just said the Screen Actors Guild was the one group that pushed for Civil Rights.

Uh, right George. The SAG is the reason that I had to take a course where the book was called Coons, Toms, Mammies, Pickininnies, Sambo's et al.

*rolls eyes*

Jon Stewart looks like he's bombing out there and the worst part is it looks like he knows it

Yeah, MrBug's synopsis was a pretty liberal adaptation.

Jon Stewart's doing fine, but I agree Billy Crystal is the one guy (still alive) who can really nail it.

Bug: You're grossly mischaracterizing what he said. He said the Academy gave an award to Hattie McDaniels in 1939 and that Hollywood gave blacks opportunities before society at large. I don't necessarily agree with him, but he certainly never said anything about SAG being the one group to push for civil rights.

Outside of "Mystery Men" and maybe one or two other movies, I typically find Ben Stiller unwatchable, but I found that bit in the green suit pretty funny.

She was given it for her role playing a Mammie. That's real big of them...

I guess I was indoctrinated by my teacher in my African American's on film class. I bet she had a heartattack

Russell Crowe makes you wonder if he ever enjoys a minute of his life. Seems miserable 24/7.

So ... if Terrence Howard wins tonight, you planning to dog the award because he played a pimp?

If aliens came to this planet and witnessed this awards show, I think they might be stunned that humanity celebrates a group of people for pretending to be other people. It's a pretty fascinating phenomenon on a lot of levels.

And from the Catty Corner: J-Lo must have gotten her make-up done by the same guy/girl who did Will Farrell's.

He was as recently as last year I think, so I'm pretty sure he still is writing for the show.
