The 2017 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Expansion Draft and Free Agency

The expansion draft is uneventful as usual, but I do manage to grab a decent run-stopping DE with my first pick. For the rest I look simply for good value players so as not to eat into my cap space with guys who won't amount to much more than dead weight anyway. As I enter into my first free agent period, the first thing i notice is the abundance of quality QB's at the top of my scout's list! There are two I mark as having both enough talent and youth around which to build my franchise. Luckily the one I want is ranked lowest of the four by my scout, so I figure he has a good chance of being left for the last ten weeks. With that in mind, I decide to look at other positions for my franchise's first FA pickup. I quickly find a great run-stopping DT and a nicely balanced G. I bid on the DT first... and loose. I go after the G... and he decides to play elsewhere for less money. At this I see that the two older QB's I didn't want have already been snatched up. A lot of attention is now suddenly being given to QB Snyder (the one I want less anyway). Fearing that once Snyder is picked up, my guy will become the next hottest item up for bid, I decide to swoop in and rescue him from free agency torment with a nice four year, $66mil ($5mil bonus) contract offer. He graciously accepts. It is more than I had hoped to pay, but a good $20mil less than the total contracts of the other three QB's. No impact players are left at the beginning of the second half so I decide to wait until week 19 and grab any good bargains. My three second half FA's are all second year guys signed in week 19 or so. I'm sure with my lack of overall talent they'll start for my first few years but hopefully won't be more than backups in two or three years.

Amateur Draft

There are actually several great players at the top of my scout's recommendation list for this draft. There are two great DE's, a future QB star, several good OL prospects, a really nice cover cornerback, a RB with about half his abilities maxed (including BA speed and potential YPC), and several other top ten quality picks. In a normal career of mine, I probably would take one of the DE's or OL's and try to build my team slowly. In this challenge, however, the first season's score counts just as much as any other season's so I decide to take the guy I think will give me the most wins now. So with the first pick in the 2017 amateur draft, The Richmond Archetypes choose Austin Coleman, 6-1", 224 lb running back out of Arkansas-Pine Bluff. His scores are 100, 32(54), 100, 56(100), 58, 47(85), 52, 100, 48. Not the prototypical 1st pick RB, but his BA speed, YPC, and Carrying all go to 100 and those are the three most important stats for and RB IMHO. I just hope the uniformity of his non 100 scores isn't an indicator of him being a bust!! I finish out my draft with a decent WR in round two, a decent DE in round three, a pretty good C in round four. This draft was great at the top, but not very deep at the bottom and thus my remaining picks aren't really of any worth I think. I fill my roster up to 70 players, hope for some breakouts and head to camp.

Preseaon

Luckily none of my picks busted (the RB lost a single pt of BAS and YPC only!) but no breakouts either. Actually in my hundreds of seasons playing FOF2k1 I don't think I ever had a real breakout player and I've only had maybe one or two real busts. Occasionally I have guys who change some or all of their stats, but never by more than 5-10 points. We go 2-2 in exhibition with no major injuries EXCEPT both my punter and kicker are out with injuries!! I almost never have one of my kickers out... let alone both of them! So I head to the free agent market and pick up replacements and head into the regular season.

Regular Season

We lose our first game 41-17 to Minnesota. Coleman got 86 yards on only 13 carries (6.6 avg) which makes the owners happy. Starting QB Nelson only made 6 passing attempts before getting pulled. He was 5/6 for 53 yds with no TD's or int's before being pulled. His replacement managed only 14/30 for 198 yds and TWO int's... At least the offense looks like it has some potential if Nelson could play the full game. He doesn't show any lasting injuries which makes the coaches extremely happy and optimistic for the next game.

This week New England comes to town and we win 24-14. WOOHOO! Coleman is really looking to be the real deal! He burned NE for 198 yds on 26 carries (7.6 avg) and two TD's. Nelson played the full game this time getting 20/30 for 181 yds with 1 TD and 2 interceptions. In light of Coleman's performances in the first two games its easy to overlook the four interceptions. Even though this is Nelson's 6th year in the league he never started a game before this season and only played in two. So despite his all-pro ratings we may be in for an adjustment period with him.

The Eagles come to Richmond this week for an early season NFC East matchup. We win 32-20 to put us at 2-1 and atop the NFC East after three games. Coleman again has another extremely efficient game coming up with 71 yards on only 13 carries (5.4 avg). I don't understand why he has gotten so few carries in two of our games, but at least he is certainly making the most of them! Nelson plays pretty well as well with 18/30 for 190 yds and one TD. The team is really starting to become cautiously optimistic at this point. We're happy to be 2-1, but feel we could have been 3-0 had Nelson played the whole game against the Vikings. In an interesting note, our replacement kicker suffered a concussion in this game. I guess the position is just cursed for this team. Our top CB sprained his knee, but is expected to play in the next game.

This week brings are second NFC East challenge. This time we pack our bags for Jersey to play the 1-2 New York Football Giants. The Giants barely nudge us 20-17. Coleman picked up 73 yards on 18 carries (4.0 avg). Nelson again only made 6 attempts before leaving the game with a hyperextended elbow. He shows questionable for next week but the hated Redskins are coming to town and we can't let him miss the first game in what should become a hotly contested regional rivalry.

Against any other team we probably would have let Nelson sit out a week to heal, but this is the Redskins and we feel a game like this is important to help us establish our franchise's identity. I just noticed my replacement punter was injured in the last game and will be out 3-5 weeks for arthroscopic knee surgery. Wow.. maybe there is something to this curse. Washington takes round one 20-3. Coleman got 51 yards on only 10 carries. Efficient, but we need to get this guy more touches. His playing time is set to 6 which I think is pretty high for a rookie. Nelson has a poor game only getting around 120 yards passing, no TD's and one interception.

This week 1-4 Carolina comes into Richmond. We feel we really need a win right now to get this season back on track, but unfortunately still fall 23-17. Coleman only managed 49 yards on 18 carries (2.7 avg) in the game. Nelson only completed 42% of his passes. Yet we still lost by less than a touchdown. This team still has reason for optimism, but the media and fans are already starting to loose faith for this season.

We get a rematch with the 2-4 Giants at home this time and we take this one 21-20 on an Austin Coleman 46 TD yard run with 4 minutes left. Coleman finished the game with 108 yards on 17 carries and 2 TD's. Nelson passed for a TD, but also had three interceptions. He also passed for over 200 yards for the first time this season. After this win we are 3-4. If you told the coaches they would be 3-4 at the beginning of the season they would have been pleased. But now, we have the feeling that we could have been much better. Still we're only 1.5 games behind Arizona for first place in the division and we haven't played them yet so we still have a chance at the playoffs. However, six of our first seven games were at home so we could also still be in for a long season and high draft pick.

We get to travel to Miami this week to face the 4-2 Dolphins in this inter-conference matchup. The team plays hard, but still falls 31-13. Coleman gets 64 yards on 13 attempts (4.9 avg), but Nelson really drags the team down with his 4.4 yards per attempt and one interception without a TD. Maybe this team's expectations got too high after our decent start. Nelson has been playing through a bit of injury with his hyper-extended elbow and he finally looks to be 100%.

At the halfway point we sit at 3-5. This is much better than we expected at the start of the season, but we still feel disappointed as this team could have easily been at least 4-4 had Nelson not suffered through various minor injuries. This it’s the halfway point, lets look at some key stats from this season so far and grade the team by position.

Key stats for first half of Season

QB - Nelson - 108/197, 1161 yards, 4 TD, 9 int, 62.1 rating (33rd among qualifiers)

RB - Coleman - 129 attempts, 706 yards (1st in league), 5.4 avg, 7 TD (2nd in league)

OT - Kenny Cedeno - 2 Fumble Recoveries, 15 KRB, 46.8 B%, 3 SkA

LB - Kerry O'Neal - 60 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 1 blk, 1 hurry, 1 int

DE - Johnnie Burgess - 34 tackles, 5.0 sacks, 2 hurries

No DB over 23 PDQ (only O'Neal has an interception on the whole team!!!)

Back to the games.

Today the five and two, division leading Arizona Cardinals come into the Richmond Coliseum (still taking bids for sponsorship rights). At 3-5 we need to really go 7-1 to make the playoffs. With only 2 home games left (including this one), we really can not afford to lose here, but we do… 24-17. Coleman gets 57 yards on only 7 carries (8.1 avg) and Nelson again stinks the place up. Management has repeated given the coach instructions to give Coleman more carries and so far we have been ignored. At this point he only has 136 caries (about 15 per game). If he doesn't have 275 by the end of the season (20 per game from here on out) a different man will be coaching the Archetypes next season.

This week is our bye week. For their sakes, the coach and offensive coordinator better design some more plays for Coleman

We travel to Philadelphia. With the playoffs essentially out of the picture for us, we just hope to make it through the year without major injuries. Of course, it would be nice if Coleman could league in rushing so maybe we could get our attendance to increase. Anyway, we win a shootout with Philly 34-31. The coach must have finally gotten our message as Austin Coleman gets 176 yards on 24 carries (7.3 avg) and 1 TD. Nelson completes less than 40% of his passes for 202 yards and 2 interceptions to go along with two TD's. He made almost as many bad passes (10) as completions (12). Nelson better be glad Coleman has carried us to a 4-6 record to cover up for his (Nelson's) terrible season.

This week we travel to 6-4 Dallas and we win 26-23. Perhaps I had given up on this team too soon. Still at 5-6 we would need to win our next 5 games to get into the playoffs. Coleman rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries (4.0 avg) and 1 TD. Nelson actually played well going 20/33 for 204 yards with 1 TD and no interceptions. Our kicker really won this game for us going 4/4 on FG's and 2/2 on PAT's.

This week we travel to division leading Arizona. At 7-4 they are a full two games ahead of us. Of course, a win would close that to just one game with four remaining. But since we lose 14-21, we fall to three games out. In one of the biggest games in this young team's history, you would think the coaches would try to get the most out of their young, emerging superstar. Well… not our coaches.. they gave Coleman the ball seven (7!!!) times for 17 yards (2.4 avg). He did get 2 receptions for 19 yards and a TD. Nelson passed for 150 yards, 2 TD's and an interception and led the team in rushing with 59 yards. At this point ownership is incredibly doubtful that Coach Bernstein will be back. The next four weeks will really make or break him depending on how hard the team plays in light of playoff elimination.

This week we travel to Greensboro for probably our second most important rivalry as our franchises will forever be tied together. Greensboro is 7-5 and we would like nothing more than to defeat them and kill their playoff ambitions! Unfortunately they have other thoughts on the matter and smoke us 16-3. Coleman had a terrible game getting only 3 yards on 11 carries. Nelson wasn't much better after leaving the game with a concussion after just 12 attempts for 90 yards passing.

Dallas comes calling at 7-6 and defeats us 13-10. We sure haven't been playing this playoff spoiler roll very well. Coleman gets 106 yards on 26 attempts (4.0 avg) as well as 4 catches for 20 yards and one TD.

We travel to England this week to play Manchester. Well its probably not Manchester, England, but we tell our players it is so they feel like it’s a special game. Apparently it didn't work as they defeat us 14-7. Coleman rushed for 40 yards on 15 carries.

We end our season against the much-hated Redskins on their home field. They defeated us earlier in the year on our home field and we really need this game. At 5-10, right now we care more for a pride than the higher draft pick a 5-11 record would net us. But I guess higher draft picks aren't so bad we tell ourselves after loosing 17-10. Coleman manages 120 yards on 20 carries but can't find the endzone. Nelson completes almost 65% of his passes for 191 yards, 1 TD, and 1 int.

Season Recap

So we end the season at 5-11. Lets have a look at the stats for the whole season

QB Randal Nelson - 225/421, 2411 yards, 5.72 YPA, 11 TD, 14 INT, 65.3 QB Rating
We still feel FA pickup Randal Nelson is a great prospect for the future and that this team can only go as far as he takes us. That said, we expect huge improvements from him next year and plan to give him better receivers to help him as best we can.

RB Austin Coleman - 257 attempts, 1302 yards, 5.0 avg., 9 TD
First overall pick of the draft Austin Coleman had a great season. His numbers, especially touchdowns, suffered in the second half but we still view him as the main reason we were able to win even five games. I see Nelson's improvement as the key to our future, but Coleman is definitely the guy who will carry us there. Coleman seems to be a big play RB who needs lots of carries to get his yards consistenly. I would have liked to have seen what he would have done with 300 carries.

WR Carlton Barber - 62/131 catches, 800 yards, 12.9 avg. 3 TD, 9 drops
My second round pick should make a good second WR, but really needs to raise his catches, lower his drops and find the endzone more to be relied on as a primary receiver. I doubt he has the talent to do so and perhaps a lot of Nelson's troubles can be blamed on the poor received corps.

LB Kerry O'Neal - 110 tackles, 36 assists, 4 sacks, 1 int
As a player acquired in the expansion draft he really played above his ratings this season as the anchor on a poor defense. Still you have to give him his props for the tackles and sacks. He has one more year left on his contract and I doubt I will resign him after it expires unless he is willing to take a large cut in pay.

Team stats

Rushing: 4.4 / 3.4 / 3.7
Passing: 5.7 / 7.3 / 6.6

We had a great running game and a pretty good rushing defense, but were extremely poor both ways in passing. We also finished near the bottom in turnover margin with -11.

Chicago defeated Colorado Springs 13-10 for their second FOF Superbowl vistory.

Player Awards

Austin Coleman - Offensive Rookie of the Year, 2nd Team All-Pro Running Back

Kerry O'Neal - 2nd Team All-Pro Linebacker

The 2018 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

As promised in mid season last year, the team decided to go with a coaching change to start their second year. It wasn't that we didn't win enough games it was because management really felt the old coach would never be able to properly use or develop our young developing superstar RB, Austin Coleman. Plus, the old coach was here before me and I really wanted to bring in my own guy for the job and for this reason the scouting staff was replaced as well. My new coach, Damon Patten, has a very good reputation for working well with quarterbacks and running backs and is especially known for his work developing young talent. My new Scout, Allen Behrendt, is only 37 years old, but already has a very good reputation as for finding talent at nearly every position.

Looking at my roster through with improved scout, I am disappointed to see Nelson take maybe a 10-15% hit across the board on his stats. Coleman takes a hit as well, but nothing by more than 10 points. After his performance last year we're still very happy to have made him our first pick last year. The franchise tag is placed on our kicker and we head to free agency.

We make a play for an amazing 5th year DT with current ratings of 75, 98, 95. After losing out on the two guys I wanted last year I make him what I feel is an amazing offer (I'll have cap room for a year or two anyway right?) of $42 mil for 3 years when he is only asking for $24 mil over 3 years. He draws offers from at least half the teams, but no one offering a 3 year deal is within 12 million of me, but I really don't want to lose out on a premier free agent for a second year in a row. Finally in week 5 he signs my deal. In week 10 we sign an average OT to a long term deal and spot 2 decent LB's from the hated Redskins without any offers, but I lose out on both of them. In week 19 I sign two passable backups at S and C.

Amateur Draft

I have this fifth pick in this year's draft. If it looks the same as last years I would be very happy. The first four picks are all QB's and RB's so I feel confident I can get a player I need. I really want a shutdown CB, but none are available so with the fifth pick in the 2018 amateur draft, the archetypes select Lenny Gutsche a 5-9" 190lb WR from Central Florida. Hopefully this will give Nelson the final tool he needs to be the force we expect him to be. With our second round pic we take a S with great potential at run defense and interceptions… just the way I like my safeties to be. There were a couple CB's available that would been reaches for the second round. Hopefully one will fall to me in the third. None of them do, but I get a great run blocking OT I was eyeing in the second round. In the fourth round I get a great run stopping DE that I was also eyeing in the second round. The fifth round brings me a pretty good backup QB. In the 6th I pull a pretty good G. Either this draft is much deeper than last years or I am seeing the effect of having a great scout finding me great diamonds in the rough. With my last pick I get a backup RB.

Preseaon

None of my players busted, but it seems a RFA DT may have broke out a little and the QB I took in the 5th round gains enough maybe 5-10 points across the board to make him starter potential.

Since Coleman's has already maxed out his potential I sit him in preseason to avoid risk of injury and we go 0-4. My goal for the regular season is 7-9.

Regular Season

We begin the season in Dallas and suffer a 38-10 loss. Coleman gets only 25 yards on 11 carries, Nelson gets 140 yards and one interception, and Gutsche mysteriously doesn't play.

We follow up our road tour with a stop in Cincinnati. Two of our three active safeties are injured so I pick up an injury replacement for a one year deal. We tear about the Bungles 33-13. Coleman got 80 yards on 15 carries while Nelson passed for 259 yards one TD and one interception.

In our first home game of the season, Portland comes to down and we loose 28-21. Coleman got four yards on eight attempts, but Nelson kept us close with 238 yards passing and two touchdowns. WR Barber, last year's second round pick, caught seven passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

San Francisco comes into Richmond Colliseum and we win 23-20. Unfortunately injuries are really starting to pile up on us. Coleman goes out with stretched knee ligament. Fortunately the backup I drafted in the 7th round turned out to be pretty good so far and should be able to do a decent job.

Bye week.

Coleman's condition improved but we'll still bring him off the bench this week at Arizona. .Even without him starting we manage to win convincingly 28-3! Coleman's replacement Van Pelt led the team with 90 yards rushing on 16 carries and two touchdowns. Nelson had a pitiful game. Throwing 10/21 for 68 yards with one TD and one interception. Safety RJ Harvey, my second round pick, won game MVP honors with one pass caught against, two defended, two interceptions, one TD in 29 pass plays. Its nice to finally have a playmaker in the secondary.

The much-hated Redskins come to town this week. This time we slaughter then 31-17 behind Van Pelt's 114 yards on 22 carries. Nelson has his best game as an Archetype passing for 228 yards and three TD's. Again Gutsche mysteriously does not play a down at receiver even though he returns a punt.

Tampa Bay at 1-5 comes into Richmond and sneaks out with a 10-7 win. Nelson throws zero TD's and 3 interceptions… 'nuff said. Coleman has been having more trouble then anticipated getting over his injury even though he hasn't had a carry in three weeks. We decide to play him on the inactive list for the next game in hopes it will help him heal faster. My tackle goes down with a serious injury and I sign a replacement to a one-year deal.

We travel to New York to face the division leading, 6-2 Giants. We squeak out a 13-7 victory. Nelson has a decent game and Barber pulls in seven catches for 117 yards and a TD. It seems Barber has taken to heart what I said about him not being talented enough to be my go-to receiver and has clearly outplayed Gutsche this year, although Gutsche did get six catches for 71 yards in this game. Coleman still shows lingering signs of his injury so we decide to sit him again for next week since we have been playing well without him.

This week we travel to Tennessee to face the 1-7 Titans. Somehow they sneak out a 24-20 win. That is the second loss this season to a bad team. Van Pelt had 82 yards and a TD. Gutsche decided to heat up the rivalry with Barber by grabbing eight catches for 113 yards. Barber, meanwhile, had four for 57.

We get to play our second straight AFC Central opponent this week at Jacksonville. The Jaguars enter the game at 5-4. I feel the winner of this game will make a huge stride toward the post season. Unfortunately that team is Jacksonville as they take us down 31-17. Despite Van Pelt's good job filling in for Coleman, we feel we really need Coleman's big play ability back and luckily the doctors have cleared him to play next week.

The Giants come over to play this week having dropped their last two games to drop to 6-4. We drop them even farther with a 27-14 thrashing. Coleman welcomes himself back with a 98 yard performance. Nelson puts up his best game ever going 22/38 for 353 yards with three TD's and one interception. Gutsche was named game MVP however with his eight catch, 174 yard, two TD tour 'de force performance.

With Eight wins and three losses Philadelphia is currently the class of the division. This week, however, they have to come to our house. We defeat them 27 to 20 to climb into a second place tie with Dallas at 7-5. This time Barber came up big with seven catches for 153 yards and one TD. Nelson, clearly benefiting from the play of his two big receivers, completed 20/26 passes for 281 yards and two TD's. My rookie S Harvey is again game MVP with another two-interception game. Unfortunately Coleman will be out 3-5 weeks with a hip pointer just as we went the home stretch.

We travel back to Washington once again to play the hated Redskins. WE SWEEP THE SEASON SERIES with a 26-16 win!! Nelson completes over 66% of his passes and gets three TD's and Barber gets ten catches for 125 yards and three TD's! Looks like this team is really starting to come together and now at 8-5 and just one game behind the 9-4 Eagles our playoff chances are starting to look pretty good.

Dallas is also at 8-5 and have similar hopes for the playoffs and we play this week. They have to come to our stadium though and hopefully that will swing the game our way. Apparently it does as we win 25-13. Van Pelt rushed for 122 yards on 25 carries and Nelson threw for three touchdowns in this win. I get the feeling my offense if becoming much more balanced which bodes well for the future.

This week we travel to Philadelphia. A win would leave us both at 10-5 but give my team the tie-breaker. We win 17-13. Van Pelt had 94 yards on 13 carries, Nelson passed for one TD with no interceptions, but the hero of the game was Nick Cunningham who returned an interception for a the winning TD late in the third corner.

This week we get 3-12 Arizona at home. It should be a gimme game, but we have already lost two gimme games this year so we take nothing for granted. That attitude carries us to a 20-17 win and an 11-5 regular season record.

Regular Season Recap

We reversed our record from last year going 11-5. Lets have a look at the stats for the whole season

QB Randal Nelson - 265/441, 3201 yards, 24 TD, 10 INT, 91.0 QB Rating
Now those number's are much closer to what we had in mind when we signed Nelson last year to lead the team. Nelson truly established himself as one of the league's top quarterbacks.

RB Austin Coleman - 6 starts, 69 carries, 301 yards, 4.3 avg., 2 TD
Coleman followed up his amazing rookie year with an extremely disappointing sophomore season. He suffered through nagging injuries in the middle of the season before finally being sidelined for the last 5 games. We still feel he is the key to our playoff chances.

RB Albert Van Pelt - 10 starts, 213 carries, 1103 yards, 5.1 avg, 7 TD
We couldn't have asked for more out this 7th round pick. He certainly played well above his ratings this year.

WR Carlton Barber - 83/136 catches, 1135 yards, 13.6 avg. 10 TD, 9 drops
"Carlton Barber, you have shown me something." Played much better than expected. Last year I said I doubted if he could develop into a good primary receiver and he really stepped up to prove me wrong. Only time will tell if he can keep it up.

WR Lenny Gutsche - 68/118 catches, 913 yards, 13.4 yards, 5 TD, 8 drops
Really played well despite his tendency to disappear during some games. Should pair up with Barber to be the best receiving corps of the next several years.

LB Kerry O'Neal - 108 tackles, 29 assists, 4 sacks, 1 int
Proved that last year wasn't a fluke by putting up almost identical number and earned himself a contract extension in the process.

S RJ Harvey - 57 tackles, 6 int, 1 TD, 8 passes defended, 52.9 PDQ
This season was a great showing for the second round pick. Anchored the secondary like a proven veteran.

Team stats
Rushing: 4.3 / 3.6 / 3.8
Passing: 7.2 / 7.2 / 6.5

My passing attack improved by 1.5 yards as Nelson had his break-through year.

Playoffs

I don't get a first round bye and get to play Philadelphia for the third time in six weeks. Since we defeated the evil Eagles both times we played, the team's confidence is pretty high going into this game.

Philly gets the opening kick off and drives for a touchdown. We get the ball to about midfield before we punt it away. Philly fair catches on their 24 yard line. They move the ball back to midfield before they are forced to punt into my endzone. We are forced to punt again and Philly scores a second TD. We punt, they punt, we move the ball pretty well and get in for a TD. Philly gets the ball back and misses a field goal as time expires. We go into the half down 14-7 just starting to get momentum. We come out in the third quarter and drive all the way to their ten yard line before we are forced to go for the field goal which we make to make it 14-10. Philly fumbles the ball in their territory giving us a great opportunity. After losing yards are a couple of successive plays we get the first down and then Coleman runs 21 yards for a TD to make it 17-14 with 2:31 left in the 3rd quarter. Philly gets the ball back and coverts several third-and-shorts on their way to getting the ball to my two yard line. We really need to hold them to a field goal. On first and ten they try to run off left tackle but we stop them for a gain of zero. On second and two they drop back to pass and Philly's QB finds 83 Dobler in the endzone for a 2 yard score. The PAT is good to make it 21-17 with 10:01 left in the game we get the ball at our own 20 yard line. My hand slipped and hit some keys on the keyboard and somehow the game magically ends at 21-17. I check the game log to see if it simmed the rest of the game or just crashed out of it and it appears to have just crashed out the game. The box score for this game is blank as well. Oh well.. I guess I let the team down this time. Sorry for the anti-climactic ending. L

Philly takes the momentum from their pseudo-victory and advance all the way to the

Superbowl where they are defeated 41-10 by my semi-hometown team, the Indianapolis Colts.

Player Awards

Albert Van Pelt - Offensive Rookie of the Year

Kerry O'Neal - 2nd Team All-Pro Linebacker

Carlton Barber - 2nd Team All-Pro Wide Receiver

The 2019 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

Management was extremely pleased with last year's improvement and so both the coach and scout will return this year. We use the franchise tag on OT Ed Hubert since almost all of our FA's are restricted anyway. This year's free agent pool is again strong and I pass over dominant player at OT, C, DE, and LB to place my bid on pretty good cover cornerback. Overall I think he isn't as good as the above mentioned players, but CB is my weakest position right now. I make him a three year, $40 mil offer but after I notice I am the only one bidding on him (there is a 13 year veteran attracting all the CB bids) I lower my offer to three years at $36 mil. His old team, Miami, decides to offer him a three year $30 mil dear. After six weeks he hasn't made up his mind so I up my deal to four years at $48 mil. Finally in week eight the rest of the league notices him and he suddenly has 15-20 teams bidding for him, but no team is close to my offer so I feel confident. Finally in week ten he decides to take my offer. I offer deals to a decent CB and a decent S (both starter quality for my current roster). The Safety signs with me in week twelve. The CB follows in week thirteen. I feel like I have pulled a major overhaul of my secondary. My two new CB's and S should join with RJ Harvey to make a much improved pass defense. In week 19 I sign a backup potential DT to a long-term deal.

Amateur Draft

In stark contrast to the last few years, this year I will be picking 31st in the amateur draft. My only hope is that I can get a future starter at some position although I am probably weakest at LB. To my surprise two very good CB's are left when its my turn to pick and both could develop into better players than either of the two I got in free agency. I always think a team can never have too many good cover CB's so I decide to choose one over a decent G and a decent DT. With the 31st pick I choose Darrel Ross a 5'11", 185lb CB from Purdue. He won't start this year, but in 3 or 4 years I expect him to develop into one of the best cover cornerbacks in the league! The other CB is gone by the time my second pick rolls around, but I do manage to nab a DT with endurance and pass rushing both at 95. With my third pick I take another backup RB who looks like he could be a star if given the chance. In the fourth round I take a backup G. In the fifth I take a TE who might start this year. In the sixth round I take an RB who is really too good to pass up even with my already huge amount of quality at the position. My seventh round pick is a LB who might actually be starter someday with my lack of depth at LB.

I now have four RB's on my roster with future estimates of "very good."

Preseaon

None of my players busted, but I notice I forgot to sign a punter before training camp so I go to do so now (sorry!). We finish the preseason 2-2. No one seems to notice. We really hope to go 12-4 this year and make it at least the divisional championship game.

Regular Season

We start the regular season at home against Denver and lose 9-6.

We travel to New York to face the Giants in week two and defeat them 21-16. The offense is again mediocre.

Arizona comes to Richmond and we narrowly defeat them 23-20. Nelson manages two touchdowns and no interceptions, but again our kicker is our (unofficial) game MVP.

Dallas comes to town next our offense finally decides to show up as well as we defeat them 49-30. Coleman exploded for 185 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carried (9.7 avg). Nelson passed for over 300 yards and had three touchdowns against a single interception and some guy named Chaney(?!?!) caught 8 balls for 155 yards. Let me check my media guide to see who this guy is! Riddick Chaney is a rookie free agent out of Purdue. In four games he has 19 catches for 258 yards. His stats are pretty good for a RFA, but not great.

The 1-3 Colorado Springs' team comes into town this week and we pund them 31 to 13. Coleman got 116 yards and two TD's on 27 carries. Nelson got over 300 yards passing with two TD's and an interception. Gutsche caught 10 balls for 160 yards two TD's.

We get to play at 1-4 Arizona this week and blow them out 38-7. Coleman ran for three touchdowns and 93 yards on 22 carries.

We take our show on the road again this week to face 2-4 Portland. We go up 30-0 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter and hold the lead until the fourth quarter. So of course, we LOSE 36-30 has their QB throws three fourth quarter touchdown passes to send the game to overtime!!!

Luckily we get our bye week to regroup.

The Giants get the pleasure of facing a pissed off Richmond team at Richmond Colliseum. We defeat them 22-14 to go to a division leading 6-2. Coleman seems to have returned to his rookie form as he led the team with 124 yards and one rushing TD on 16 carries. He also caught two passes for 48 yards and one TD.

This week we get to face the hated Redskins in Washington. They come into the game at 4-4, but when these two teams meet you can basically throw the records away. Washington wins round five 23-21. Individual stats or accomplishments are meaningless in this game. We must win the rematch.

We travel to Oakland this week to face the Raiders. We pummel them 48-17. Coleman rushes for 73 yards and two touchdowns, but Van Pelt comes off the bench to upstage him with 128 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. Nelson simply plays error free football and throws in a touchdown pass for good measure. At this point we are 7-3, but three teams trail us at 6-4 in our division.

We face one of those teams this week as we travel to Dallas and defeat them 30-3. Coleman gets 143 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries.

Philadelphia and Washington still trail us by one game and this week we travel to Philadelphia to play the evil Eagles. Archetype fans will never forget the 2018 playoffs. We manage to win 17-14 to run our record up to 9-3. This game is won by the defense lead by Shawn McGee and his two interceptions. The hated Redskins also lost this week which puts two games ahead into first place.

Speaking of the hated Redskins, they come to visit us this week. We would love to knock them out of the playoffs, but they blank us 27-0. Let this game never be mentioned again.

We face another tough test this week as we go to the Windy City to face the 10-3 Bears and they send us to our first two game losing streak of the season 33-18. To make matters worse we are now tied with Washington for the division and the hated Redskins own the tiebreaker.

Needing a win badly, we face 6-8 San Francisco at home this week. My boys deliver 24-14 to put us up to 10-5, the Giants defeated Washington to allow us to control our own destiny next week.

We would need a lot of help to claim a first round bye, but we can still get a game at home if we defeat Philly at home. We send a message to the rest of the league with a good old-fashioned 48-0 ass-whoop'n.

Regular Season Recap

We kept our record steady at 11-5 this year. Lets have a look at the stats for the whole season

QB Randal Nelson - 268/442, 3109 yards, 21 TD, 16 INT, 82.6 QB Rating
Nelson's numbers were down a little this year and we would like to lower his interception total, but we're still extremely pleased with his performance.

RB Austin Coleman - 265 carries, 1208 yards, 4.5 avg., 14 TD
Coleman regained much of his rookie form and flourished as head of my RB committee.

RB Albert Van Pelt - 87 carries, 394 yards, 4.5 avg, 1 TD
Solid numbers in limited time for this second year back. Luckily he's under his cheap rookie contract for one more year before we have to let him go.

WR Lenny Gutsche - 77/127 catches, 972 yards, 12.6 yards, 6 TD, 5 drops
Improvement over his rookie numbers as he assumed the role of primary receiver. But we would like to see further improvement next year.

WR Carlton Barber - 54/97 catches, 761 yards, 14.0 avg. 4 TD, 6 drops
A drop off from his amazing numbers last year, but this is where we expect him to be consistently each year.

DT Norman Robertson 54 tackles, 19 assits, 10.0 sacks, 2 blk, 6 hurries
My big time free agent from last year played big this year

Team stats
Rushing: 4.3 / 3.3 / 3.8
Passing: 7.0 / 6.9 / 6.4

My running game is still dominant, but my passing attack dropped a little from last year. My passing defense showed decent improvement, but more is required if we are to really become a dominant team.

Playoffs

The NFC wasn't very good this year as I see my first round opponent, the New York Football Giants finished a poor 8-8 and still made the big dance.

We take a three point lead on an early field goal and then get the ball back and score a quick touchdown. We get the ball back again but our forced to punt. NY takes advantage with their first TD of the game. We give the ball, but they can't take advantage as we force them to punt. We drive for a touchdown to make it 17-7. We force another punt and drive the ball to their two yard line. They stop us twice. Its down to third and goal at their four yard line. Nelson runs the QB draw for the touchdown! We go to the fourth with a 23-7 lead. We quickly get the ball back and score again. They get a field goal, but this is looking like a blow out. We again drive deep into their territory, but miss a field goal. They score a touchdown, to make it 17-30, but we're able to run our rhe clock for our first ever post season victory!

Coleman came up big with 101 yards on 27 carries, but Nelson was the star with a 19/26 for 265 yards, three TD's and zero interceptions. Gutsche had six catches for 100 yards and two TD's.

We travel to St Louis this week. They quickly score and we give them the ball back. They give it back to us, but we can't do much with it either so we just give it back to them and let them score another TD. Again we do nothing with the ball and decide to give it back to them for one last time this half. We settle for a field goal after moviugn deep into their territory to end the half. They start the second half with a field goal of their own and we promptly give the ball back to them and let them have another TD. We're really nice today cause we let them have it back really quickly. We somehow stop them and get the ball back but manage only a field goal. They score another touchdown. We give the ball back. They kick a field goal. We give the ball back. Final score: Rams 34, Archetypes 6.

St. Louis goes on to represent the NFC in the Superbowl, but Indianapolis repeats as champions 20-17.

Player Awards

Norman Robertson - 1st Team All-Pro Defensive Tackle

Lenny Gutsche - 2nd Team All-Pro Wide Receiver

2020 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

No changes at coach or scout.

I designate Toby Westfall as my franchise player. I notice I have a lot of good players who are in the last year of their contracts, so I decide to extend as many as possible before heading to free agency. All-Pro DT Norman Robertson re-ups for four years. Randal Nelson signs on for five more years. Oakland offers me the seventh overall pick for Austin Coleman and with my stable of backs I almost consider it. LB has been my weakest area for for the last three years, and although I think the position is fairly useless in FOF2k1, I decide to go after I good one in free agency. I offer him $32 mil for four years, but don't really expect him to take it. Finally in week 10 he signs on the anchor my linebacker core. He should put up monster numbers considering the rest of my LB's are pretty pitiful. There aren't really good players left in the second ten weeks but I do manage to pick up a decent backup OT.

Amateur Draft

I have terrible draft position again this year, but I manage to get to get a gem at Safety in Karl Poston out of North Carolina. I took him over several good LB's because I am a firm believer in taking the best overall player in the first round and worrying about need in the later rounds. In the second round I grab Sean Hawkins who looks to be a pretty good run-stopping DT to compliment Norman Robertson inside. I take another safety in the third round because he is simply too good to let pass by. I think that brings me up to four really good safeties now. In the fourth round I take a TE. With my second fourth round pick I get a decent WR. The fifth round brings me a decent backup QB. I take another WR in the sixth round and finally I get a LB in round seven.

Preseaon

I didn't notice any busts or breakouts. However, my free agent LB goes down in the first exhibition game. Looks like he'll miss 3-5 months. We make it through the rest of exhibition without any major injuries and finish 2-2.

Regular Season

We face the mighty Giants in Jersey in game one, but win easily 34-7, but unfortunately number one WR Gutsche breaks his arm.

New Orleans comes to Richmond and defeats 31-28. The injuries are really starting to pile up and we may be in for a disappointing season.

Arizona comes to town and defeats us 16-15. Not looking good for the good guys.

Bye week… couldn't come soon enough this year!

The evil Eagles come over to play this week. We defeat then 31-24 to get to 2-2.

We travel to Dallas this week where we get crushed 14-7.

The Giants come to down and spank us 24-20 to drop us down to 2-4.

We really hit a low point when we go to Washington and get beaten23-20 by the hated Redskins.

Indianapolis comes to Richmond at 7-0 and leaves at 8-0 as they defeat us 35-17.

We travel to Philly to play the evil Eagles doe the second time this season and lose 23-20.

We travel to Arizona and manage to pull out a third victory 16-14 in this lost season.

We travel to 7-3 New England and defeat them 16-13 to move up to 4-7.

We travel to 5-7 St. Louis this week and get defeated 35-7 as more and more injuries pile on.

The hated Redskins come to town this week, but to be honest almost no one cares. This season was over long ago. We manage to win 17-16.

We play a good Dallas this week at home and blow them out 42-10. Putting us at 6-8 and probably preventing us from getting a top 5 draft pick.

Chicago comes in at 9-5 and we defeat then to move up to 7-8. We really are blowing are draft position now aren't we?

At 7-8 we travel to Jersey to play the Giants. We lose 28-10 to finish 7-9. Probably the worst record to have as it ensures us no playoffs and no top pick.

Regular Season Recap

We lost too many players to injuries to compete this year. Still we managed to end up 7-9 after a strong finish. I noticed we played a lot playoff teams this year as well, but I still feel this team should have finished with more than 10 wins even given the circumstances.

QB Randal Nelson - 11 starts, 182/291, 2311 yards, 11 TD, 7 int
Good year considering he missed five total games and played injured in several others and played without his primary receiving threat for 11 games. We need him to be healthy next year.

Austin Coleman - 16 starts, 226 carries, 936 yards, 4.1 avg, 10 TD
Even though he started every game his numbers took a hit as everyone around him missed substantial parts of the season with injuries.

Lamont Howard - 119 carries, 406 yards, 3.4 avg, 4 TD
Pretty good year as my second running back.

Carlton Barber - 16 starts, 73/121, 1039 yards, 14.2 avg, 6 TD, 11 drops
Barber put up good yardage this year taking over as the primary WR, but we really can't afford 11 drops from that position.

Lenny Gutsche - 6 starts, 17/31, 205 yards, 12.0 avg, 2 TD, 3 drops
Was injured on the first play of the season and missed the next ten games. Didn't really regain his form in the last five games, but this year truly showed his importance to the team.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 3.9 / 3.0 / 3.9
Passing: 7.3 / 7.1 / 6.6

Despite investing so many resources into my secondary, it still hasn't improved enough to suit me. My running game took a huge hit this year, and it will be something to look at next year. TO: -4

Playoffs

Indianapolis wins their third Superbowl in four years defeating New Orleans 35-21.

2021 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I make no changes at coach or scout. The hated Redskins finally raise their ticket prices and we raise our prices to match. I choose not to use my franchise designation this year as all my good free agents are restricted. The Giants offer me their first round pick (31) for Carlton Barber. I consider it, but decide in the end that I don't want him to go to a divisional rival. If another team makes me a similar offer before the draft I might take it. Heading into this free agency I feel I have several needs. I really need a really good DE, a secondary WR (so that Barber can move into the third position to give me depth), or any stand-out offensive linemen. I would also look seriously at a maxed-out CB, but the same could be said for almost any position if the player is amazing enough. There are three good WR's in the pool, but the youngest one is 34 years old so I pass on them. There is a pretty good 27 year old guard and I make him a three year $27 mil offer. New England makes him a four year $33 mil offer, but I decide to hold tight with my offer which is about $4 mil higher than any other three year deal. The evil, evil Eagles swoop in with a four year, $36 mil offer and he signs immediately without giving me a chance to beat their deal. So I go after a pass-blocking OT with a three year $30 mil offer, but he chooses to sign with Tamba Bay for $29 mil instead. There aren't any other players of interest for me so I skip to the draft. Cleveland offers me their first round pick for my starting CB Jermaine Relf. He wasn't playing as well as I had hoped and was eating up $10 mil in cap room so I took the deal. I think I can get a replacement with my 13th pick and I have two pretty CB's behind him anyway.

Amateur Draft

I now have the 13th and 32nd picks in this draft. Hopefully I can get a dominant WR, a good CB, and a good DE with my first three picks in the first two rounds. At the 13th pick there are two really good WR's, a good DE, and two decent, but not spectacular CB's. I decide to take Austin Porras, the good DE, and hope one of the WR's falls to the 32nd pick. Both WR's are gone by the 32nd pick, but the two CB's are still available. I feel confident they will fall to me in the 2nd round. There are two "project" WR's left that I feel could develop into very solid second or third WR's. I take a second DE, Cory Matthews, with the pick, though, as I really feel I need to improve at this position and it will allow me to cut a couple overpriced guys sitting on my roster now. Both WR's and CB's are still available and they look like they could continue to fall so I take a really good TE here. I really feel TE and FB (along with S) are key positions that can be obtained relatively cheaply. Both my CB's are gone by now, but one of the WR's is still available so I take him. With my fourth round pick I choose a pretty decent CB. My fifth pick goes toward another WR which should give me pretty good depth this year. My sixth pick is a starter potential C. With my seventh pick I take another RB who really looks like he should have gone much sooner.

I feel like I had a pretty good draft as far as my needs are concerned. If I could have gotten either of the two offensive linemen I wanted in free agency I would feel really good about my team. As it is… it is still a work in progress.

Preseaon

I didn't notice any busts or breakouts. My All-Pro DT Norman Robertson will miss the preseason with injury carried over from last year. We hope he will be ready to go by the time the games actually count. He looks to be fine before by the fourth game, but my second DT goes down so I am forced to activate Robertson for the final preseason game. Also My star S RJ Harvey with miss a couple months so I sign a replacement. We finish the exhibition season 1-3.

Regular Season

We start the season at home against Dallas. We desperately need to start this season off right after last season's train-wreck. We start off… with a tie! 24-24. At least its not a loss. Coleman came up big with 165 yards and two touchdowns, but Nelson didn't do much of anything to help. First round pick, Austin "Powers" Porras was also huge with 3.5 sacks to start his professional carreer.

Pittsburg comes to town this week. The Steelers come into Richmond with a 1-0 record and pounds us 24-19. Coleman ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns, but again Nelson sabotaged the effort with two interceptions. Austin "Powers" Porras was silent with 4 tackles and absolutely nothing else.

This week travel to Carolina looking for redemption and our first win of the season. We get it 20-3. Coleman gets 94 yards and one touchdown on the ground and four catches for 50 yards through the air. He seems to really be running like he has something to prove this year. Nelson improved his game slightly as he passed for over 200 yards and actually got a touchdown. Rookie WR, Newman, caught 5 of his passes for 94 yards and the lone touchdown.

We travel to 0-3 St. Louis this week looking to get to 2-1-1. We fail and instead fall 35-10 to drop to 1-2-1. Nelson throw two interceptions with no touchdowns again in the loss.

Bye week.

Luckily we get most of our players back from injury this week as we travel into New York to face the Giants. This time we will have no talk of ties as we defeat them 20-17. Nelson had a pretty decent game as he passed for 288 yards, 2 touchdowns, and only one interception. Gutsche caught 9 of those passes for 110 yards and one of the touchdowns. Four players registered a sack this week, including former All-Pro DT Norman Robertson with two sacks and rookies Austin "Powers" Porras and Cory Matthews with one each.

We travel to dreary Washington to face off against the Hated Redskins this week. They defeat us 27-13 to move their record up to 5-1. Yuck.

We travel to the frozen tundra this week to face always tough Green Bay and pull out a 17-7 win to move up to 3-3-1. Coleman ran for 94 yards and a touchdown to get his name mentioned again after a short hiatus. Nelson played poorly, but the defense, led by rookie DE phenom Austin "Powers" Porras (1.5 sacks), former All-Pro DT Norman Robertson (1 sack), and last year's first round pick S Karl Poston (2 interceptions), pulls out the victory.

This week 0-8 Arizona comes to Richmond and fails to win their first game as we pound them 29-15. Nelson busted out his can of "whoop ass" to the tune of 244 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

Cincinnati comes to town this week and brings their 3-5 record with them. We narrowly win 20-17 to move up to 5-3-1. Coleman gets 94 yards and a touchdown, former All-Pro Norman Robertson gets a sack, and of my players each get an interception. The defense is really leading the way this season I feel.

At 7-2 Tennessee comes into Richmond Coliseum looking to provide us with a real challenge, but we blow them out 48-13. Coleman continues his career year running for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Nelson passes for 250 yards and FOUR touchdowns and two interceptions. Gutsche makes only six catches, but half of them are touchdowns. Former All-Pro Norman Robertson gets another two sack game and three of my players come up with interceptions. We currently have a 6-3-1 record, but sit fourth in the division as the Cowboys, the Hated Redskins, and the Evil Eagles all own seven wins.

We travel to sunny Arizona this week to demolish the 1-9 Cardinals 23-7. Norman Robertson gets another sack, Karl Poston gets another interception, and the offense does just enough to win.

This week we are forced to travel to Philadelphia to face off against the Evil Eagles. They defeat us 24-7. Nelson apparently was injured early and his replace stunk up the place with three interceptions.

The Hated Redskins come to the Richmond Coliseum. Luckily Nelson is healthy, but we lost former All-Pro DT Norman Robertson for the season in the last game. Washington defeats us 28-9.

We travel to Dallas this week for out third tough game in a row. This time we win 20-6. Coleman rushed for 139 yards and DT Robertson's replacement got two sacks to lead the defense.

The Evil Eagles come to Richmond this week for the rematch. We really need this win to solidify our playoff chances, but we lose 28-21. The offense played well, but we didn't get a single big play from our defense.

We travel to New York for our final game. If we win we're in the playoffs. If we lose we need some help. Unfortunately we were really banged up in last week's game. We still manage to win 17-13 to make the playoffs at 9-6-1.

Regular Season Recap

I think my team played very well this year. Unfortunately their were five really good teams in the division this year and two of them played better than us. To make matters worse, those two teams happen to be our biggest rivals. Lets look at the stats for this year. Unfortunately when I tried to look at the stats, FOF decided to crash. Luckily I had saved right before my final game so I can go back to that and re-simulate it until I win. Okay now lets look at the stats…

QB Randal Nelson - 16 starts, 243/425, 3063 yards, 16 TD, 11 int, 81.5 QB Rating
Not a bad year, but we expect many more touchdowns.

RB Austin Coleman - 16 starts, 277 carries, 1273 yards, 4.5 avg, 13 TD
His play improved a lot from last year. We'd still like to see him get more carries.

WR3 Tryus Newman - 46/86 catches, 693 yards, 15.0 avg, 3 TD, 2 drops
Great numbers for a third receiver, but not so good considering he led the team.

WR1 Lenny Gutsche - 57/99, 668 yards, 11.7 avg, 6 TD, 4 drops
Inexcusable numbers for the teams primary WR.

LB Butch Ballard - 114 tackles, 40 assists, 2.5 sacks, 1 int
Good numbers for the only good player LB on the team.

DT Norman Robertson - 28 tackles, 21 assists, 10.0 sacks, 2 blks, 4 hurries
Great numbers considering he only started 12 games before being lost for the season.

DE Austin Porras - 39 tackles, 12 assists, 9.0 sacks, 4 blks, 5 hurries
This kid is gonna be star on this team before his career is over.

S Karl Poston - 106 tackles, 5 int, 5 passes defended, 30.8 PDQ
Great number of tackles for a safety, but I would like to see him raise his PDQ by allowing less catches. He allowed 50 this year and it really seems way too high.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.2 / 3.3 / 3.7
Passing: 6.9 / 6.7 / 6.7

Finally our pass defense is to acceptable levels. Unfortunately the passing offense struggled this year.

Playoffs

Washington defeats us 25-10 behind good defense and six field goals from K Steve Patton.

Pittsburgh defeats Philadelphia 20-17 in the Superbowl.

Player Awards

Butch Ballard - 2nd Team All-Pro Linebacker

Karl Poston - 2nd Team All-Pro Safety

My only comment would be to think about summarizing your seasons further. What you could do, if you still wanted to keep the length, is keep your original long posts and then submit a follow up condensed version.

2022 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I make no changes at coach or scout. I designate CB Shawn McGee as my franchise player. WR Carlton Barber is an URFA this year, but I choose to let him go. I make a three year $37 mil offer to Kendrick Foilette, a pretty good 7th year WR, to replace Barber. The last three years or so I think I have lost out on the FA I most wanted despite offering him an amazing deal. Hopefully I can get Foilette to sign on early. Barber gets a four year, $58 million dollar deal from Jacksonville in week three so good luck to him. I finally get my man in week seven. I now have less than $10 million in cap room for the first time in this career so I go to look for players that can be cut. I notice that Randal Nelson's rating took a HUGE hit after his last injury. That combined with the fact my starting RB is a 6th year player leads me to think I will be rebuilding this team much sooner than expected. I cut DE Toby Westphall which frees up close to $10 mil. I also cut two time All-Pro LB Kerry O'Neal which frees up close to $4 million. In week 20 I sign a great C and two young tackles.

Amateur Draft

There are no great picks left when it gets to my turn at 28th. I take a CB who could start in a few years with the pick. I take a great fullback in the second round as there are absolutely no quality players left at other positions. I take a punter in the third round. I grab a TE in the fourth round. I take a RB from my alma mater, Northwestern University, in the fifth round. I pick up a QB in the sixth and a WR in the seventh. After the draft I trade my DE Hoover to Manchester for their 2nd round pick next year and a OT who I will most likely cut. I accept the trade to free up enough cap room to sign 53 players.

Preseaon

The punter I drafted in the third round busted big time. I notice Nelson is still injured so I sign a rookie temp QB. RJ Harvey somehow made 20 point jumps in interceptions and run defense even though he is in his 4th year or so… strange, but I'll take it. We finish the preseason 1-3.

Regular Season

We travel to New York to face the Giants this week and sneak out a 15-12 victory. Coleman didn't play and Nelson played very poor, but somehow we still won.

We are forced to travel to Washington this week to play the hated Redskins. They defeat us 27-21. Second year RB Drew Catalano gets 125 yards and a touchdown and Nelson plays efficiently in a losing effort.

We travel to Tampa to face the 0-2 Buccaneers and give them their first win of the season 20-10.

Bye week.

This week we get to play 0-4 Arizona in Arizona and we take advantage with a 23-21 victory. Coleman finally plays and runs for 203 yards and a touchdown!

Kansas City comes to town at 1-3 and we defeat then 20-17. Coleman gets 123 yards and Nelson has a decent, but unspectacular game.

Washington comes to Richmond this week for the colossal rematch. We defend home turf with a big 23-6 win. Coleman ran for 247 yards and two touchdowns, but the passing game again sputtered.

Seattle comes into Richmond this week at 3-4 and we pound them 31-12. Nelson passes for three touchdowns and Coleman ran for over 120 yards. Former All-Pro DT Norman Robertson led the defense with two sacks, while five of my players came up with interceptions.

We are now tied for the division lead at 5-2, but we travel to always to Colorado to face the always tough Broncos. We defeat them 16-10 to move to 6-2 at the halfway point. Three QB's played in this game… all poorly I might add.

The Cowboys come to Richmond this week to try to know us off the top. Unfortunately they succeed 20-16.

Arizona then comes to town and defeats us 27-10. Nelson has been playing injured the last two games and has really been hurting the team so we decide to bench him for a game to let him recover.

In the meantime we travel to Dallas and lose or third in a row to drop to 6-5. To make matters worse, Coleman suffers a minor injury

We travel to the Philly to play the evil, division-leading Eagles. They defeat us 14-3 for a fourth straight loss.

Things get better when 9-3 Chicago comes into town and we defeat them 18-3 behind six Holmberg field goals.

The Giants come to Richmond this week as we look to make our push for the playoffs. We defeat them 24-17 to improve our chances. Nelson played great football and Coleman was pretty good as well.

We travel to Portland this week for this must win game. They narrowly defeat us 23-22.

The evil Eagles come to Richmond this week at 10-5. We really need this win to have any chance at making the playoffs. We blow them out 42-17, but is it enough? It is not. Three teams from the NFC East make the playoffs. Chicago didn't even make it in at 10-6 this year. In the AFC only one team won more than nine games so even an 8-8 team made it… must have been nice to play over there this year.

Regular Season Recap

Randal Nelson lost too much with his last injury. We don't think we have any chance to win the big one anymore as long as he is our quarterback. It is very frustrating that my division is so much more difficult than the others, but this always seems to happen when I play FOF careers.

QB Randal Nelson - 15 starts, 223/370, 2846 yards, 15 TD, 7 int, 89.9 QB Rating
Not really a bad year, but not a great one either. We need much more from our passing attack if we plan to win the Superbowl.

Austin Coleman - 229 carries, 1249 yards, 5.4 avg, 6 TD
Great season even though he didn't carry the ball once in the first three or four games..

Austin Porras - 31 tackles, 11 assists, 11 sacks, 2 blks, 4 hurries
Great second year for this former 13th overall pick. 20 sacks in his first two years bodes well for the future.

RJ Harvey - 68 tackles, 7 int, 1 TD, 6 dfns, 45.2 PDQ
Great year for the fifth year safety who's ratings got a huge increase this year.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.4 / 3.1 / 3.8
Passing: 7.4 / 6.8 / 6.5

Statistically this year looks pretty good for us. Maybe if the NFC East wasn't so tough we would actually be in the playoffs this year. TO: +9

Points scored: 301
Points allowed: 259

Playoffs

St. Louis defeated New England 35-7 to win the Superbowl.

Player Awards

2023 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

I'm gonna try to change my posts a little bit from now on. Instead of providing so much detail on a game by game basis, I'm gonna give a much more summarized account of the actual games. I will also concentrate more on telling about the choices I make in the offseason, which is the most fun part of the game to me anyway.

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

Both my scout's and my coach's contracts expire this year. My scout is amazing and only 42 years old so I give him a five year, $2 mil deal. I try to sign a different coach, but he rejects my offer so I resign my current coach with a huge pay cut since he is much older now and no other team offers him a deal.

I franchise 5th year guard Kent Bradford, a three year starter on my team. Colorado Springs offers me a pretty good OT and their first round pick (11) for QB Randal Nelson. I seriously consider this deal since Nelson's ratings have dropped dramatically. In the end I decide its time to rebuild accept the deal. At the time I traded Nelson he looked like this,

In free agency I make a three year $30 million offer to an offensive guard. This has been a huge need position for me every year. In week five William Sharkey accepts my deal. I sign another guard in week ten to a longterm deal.

Amateur Draft

I hold the 11th and 22nd picks in this draft and my absolute best hope is that a great future QB will fall to me at eleven. With the 22nd pick I grab QB Leonard Becker who will at least be the temporary QB of the future until I can find a more suitable guy. In the second round I pick up a guard who should be starting in a year or two. I get a good pass-rushing DT with my second second round.pick. I get another potential QB of the future in the third round. I take a great punter with my fourth round pick. I get a pretty good TE with my fifth round pick. I take yet another QB in the sixth round (hopefully one will break out). I use my seventh round pick on a decent back with maxed out breakaway speed.

Preseaon

This year I actually had my first real breakthrough player in all my hundreds of seasons of FOF2k1!!! Josh Cloud, an URFA who started with no potentials up above 50 now looks like this

Also my 7th round RB improved most his ratings by 10 points or less which now makes him look a great backup RB.

I finish the exhibition 3-1 with only my third WR being injuried.

Regular Season

I start the season 0-3 before I notice my starting rookie QB and CB are both injured. I bring in a different rookie QB to start and get my first win over previously undefeated New York! For a while it looks as if that might be the only game we win we run off a string of six straight losses. I make another change at QB to let my third rookie get a shot and he leads us to our second win. Achtison leads the team to a second consecutive victory before being injured. We lose the next game and then win the next to make us three out of our last four and move us into SECOND-TO-LAST-PLACE! We win our next game just to make sure we screw up our draft position and just to totally make sure we have no shot at the first pick we even win our last game too. Well… We did win five of our last six games. I don't know if I should feel optimistic for the future or mad cause I probably won't even get a pick in the top five next year.

Regular Season Recap

This was definitely a transition year. When we were 1-9 we could at least look forward to drafting a stud QB next year, but after five of the last six, we probably ruined those chances.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 3.2 / 3.9 / 3.8
Passing: 6.4 / 6.0 / 6.7

Without a good QB to keep the defense honest, my running game became almost non-existent. My passing defense showed improvement, but I guess that had more to do with teams not needing to pass on us in the second halves of games.

PF: 297
PA: 375

Playoffs

Indianapolis defeated Philadelphia 29-24 to win the Superbowl.

Player Awards

Surprisingly…

Norman Robertson - 1st Team All-Pro Defensive Tackle

Butch Ballard - 1st Team All-Pro Linebacker

Shawn McGee - 1st Team All-Pro Cornerback

\2024 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

My coach of the last six years is fired for failing to acquire the first pick in the draft. We hire Jessie Caro from Indianapolis. At the age of 49, he has already won four Superbowls.

I franchise my fifth year DT Sean Hawkins.

In free agency I sign a great OT to a three year $38 million contact. My offensive line should be a position of strength for years to come. I sign a CB, an OT, and a G to long term deals in the second half and move on to the draft.

Amateur Draft

I have the fourth pick in this year's draft and there is only position for which I'm looking. I NEED a dominant QB now. My dreams come true as the top three all avoid QB's and I get a guy with potentials all in the mid-80's! I am a little worried that he might bust, but it's a risk I'll have to take. I didn't even look at any other players this time around. I am disappointed at the depth in this draft, but as long as Levon Summers pans out I will consider it a success. I pick up a WR in the second round. I am afraid my starting center will bolt next year so I grab a replacement with starting potentials in the third round. I take a TE in the fourth round, after eyeing a RB that was on my scout's initial top-ten recommendation list. Hopefully he'll stick around until the seventh round like usual. I select a safety in the fifth round since my old third guy left in free agency this year. I finally take the RB in the sixth round, as there are no other good players left. I get a decent LB in the seventh round.

Here is Levon Summer pre-camp:

Preseaon

I anxiously check my roster after training camp and find that Summers turned out to be better than before in many areas and only slightly worse in others. See for yourself:

Everyone else come through pretty much as advertised. Suddenly I feel like multiple Superbowl victories within a few years is not so much of a longshot! This team was built to compete for a Superbowl last year, but faltered without a decent QB. The foundation around Summers is topnotch right now. If he can step in and have a good first year the playoffs are certainly a good possibility.

Regular Season

The injuries really pile on this season, but so do the wins. We*start the season 4-0, before losing 9-6 to Philadelphia. Even worse, Levon Summers will have to sit out the next couple months after injuring himself. Without Summers, we lose our next game before righting the ship against the Giants. We're confident this team can compete at a high level when healthy. We lose again to Philly, but come back strong against the Cardinals. We then trade a few games to get to 8-5. The good news is that Summers should be back in good health in a week or two. Richmond doesn't make it back do the fact I accidentally hit "sim until playoffs" and we finish at 9-7 just out of the playoffs (other 9-7 teams made it in the NFC).

Regular Season Recap

This year was a great improvement over the last and really gives up for the future. We expect to be Superbowl contenders next year.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 5 games, 67/109, 846 yards, 7 TD, 2 int, 99.4 QB Rating

The most telling statistic is that the team was 4-0 in Summers' full games. I am really looking forward to next year with this guy.

RB Austin Coleman - 225 carries, 1240 yards, 5.5 avg., 9 TD
He's been putting up great numbers his whole career. My only hope is that he can keep it up a few more years so he can team up with Summers for a truly special offense.

LB Josh Cloud - 101 tackles, 38 assists, 4.0 sacks
Pretty good year for the second year breakout player. His ratings dropped this year, but he still looks like he should be able to be a big time player in my LB corps.

DE Cory Matthews - 37 tackles, 14 assists, 10.0 sacks, 3 blks, 5 hurries
Nice sack total for the "other DE" drafted in the same year with Austin Porras.

DE Austin Porras - 51 tackles, 14 assists, 8.5 sacks, 2 blks, 4 hurries
His sack numbers took a hit this year mostly due to the other players on the defensive line having good years. He is certainly the anchor of the line and easily one of my best defensive players.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.3 / 3.7 / 3.8
Passing: 6.0 / 6.5 / 6.7

Defense and a strong running game got me through this season. Look for the yards per pass attempt to increase by more than a full point next year.

PF: 295
PA: 286

Playoffs

Indianapolis defeats Greensboro 38-0 to win the Superbowl AGAIN.

Player Awards

Surprisingly...

None?! After three players made first team last year on a worse team?

Good reading - I love the detail. My only aesthetic-type comment would be to tighten up the line breaks - too much white space, too much scrolling.

Of course, I am at work in a bad mood, so it could just be me...

It looks to me like your formatting is different than that used by most folks. Your screen shots are a lot more comfy than most. Can you 'splain me how you're posting things to this thread-- and how you're doing your screen shots?

I'm always looking for ways to freshen up my own career posts, and I'd like to pluck some ideas, if possible. I'm not too keen on the standard screen shot-- full screen size, takes forever to load, etc.

I did the regular alt+print screen and then pasted into Photoshop (even MS Paint will work for this though). Then I selected the area I wanted to show and cropped the image. Finally I just saved it as a low-medium quality jpg (to lower the file size). I find I can get the file down to around 10k which should be managable for most people.

I'm not sure if MS Paint has a "crop" option or not. If it doesn't you can just select the area you want to show and choose "copy to" from the edit menu. This lets you save a bitmap of just that area to your harddrive which you would then need to open and convert to jpeg. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the dolapost, but I forgot to answer your first question. To get my formatting I am using Word97 to make things look the way I want it and then choosing "Save as html" I then open that file with Notepad and copy the relevant html codes and paste it here. If it has the advantage of letting me use html formatting without having to spend the time to do it myself. Plus I get an html file for every season on my harddrive that I can look at whenever I want.

2025 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout this year. My scout is really quite amazing. He is only 44 years old and already rated excellent in running backs and receiver, good in*offensive line and secondary and very good in everything else!! Needless to say (than why I am I saying it?), I will try to keep this guy around for as long as possible!

I franchise S Karl Poston. His current ratings are 89, 96, 64, 64, 68. He is my second best safety, but a crucial member of my rapidly improving secondary.

I head into free agency with just over $13 million under the cap. I doubt I will have any room to sign any good free agents, but I check out the available player just in case. There is an amazing near-maxed out receiver asking for under $10 million in his first year that I really really want. I look at my roster and find I have two WR's older than the FA I want with worse ratings and higher salaries. I decide to cut one which in addition to extending some contracts free me up enough money to make an offer to this amazing WR and still resign Karl Poston and all my draft choices. I make him a four year, $63 million offer. I know it's a lot and money will be tight the next years, but I feel I'm close to the Superbowl and really need to go for it next year. I hold my breath until week five when he finally signs my offer. There is no way my offense can be stagnant now! I sign a decent second year tackle in week eleven to a cheap long-term deal, but that's all I can afford for this year.

Amateur Draft

Heading into this year's draft, I really only have one strong need position. I really need a couple good linebackers. Looking at the draft board, there is a pretty good QB, a decent LB, a really good S, and a really nice CB prospect. I am extremely tempted to take the CB, but I take the LB since I feel he can really contribute right out of the box assuming he doesn't bust. Some how the QB survives to the second round, but I take a pretty good LB again. I doubt I'll be able to afford to bring and decent linebackers in via free agency anytime soon, so I feel I better get some guys with potential now. I am pretty surprised to see the QB make it to the third round as well. I can't possibly pass him up so take him to be my backup for the next three or four years or at least good trade bait if the computer ever offers me something good for him. I take a pretty good center in the fourth round. My starter last year bolted in FA this year so I need someone to take over at backup once my old backup slides up to start. I pick up a pretty good RB in the fifth round. Austin Coleman will be a 31 year old free agent next year and I'm not sure how money I will be willing to spend to bring him back at that age. It will be tough to lose this franchise's first ever draft pick, especially since he is idolized by the fans, but this is a business and I need to do what's best for the team. I pick another LB in the sixth round. This might actually be the first year I don't start an URFA at LB! In the seventh round I take a great pass-rushing DT that I had been eyeing since very early in the draft. I passed him each round because I feel I already have enough solid talent at DT, but I really couldn't pass him in the seventh.

Preseaon

My scout thinks rookie QB Sammy O'Donnell is better than second year phenom Levon Summers. I strongly disagree, but I'll have O'Donnell for four years so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Summers ratings did drop a little after his injury last year, but I feel he still has the potential to be a great quarterback in this league.

Regular Season

*I open up my 2025 road to the Superbowl at home against the Giants. We start the season off right with a 20-10 win. Coleman gets 181 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and Summers has an efficient 12/16 for 112 yards day. This guy has been accurate in his five full professional games, but we really need improvement from the passing attack this year considering I may have mortgaged the future to bring in WR Irv Crowder.

Dallas comes to Richmond for this early season battle of 1-0 teams and we defeat them 29-13. Coleman gets 77 yards and two touchdowns and the second string RB, Marvin Kabinoff, gets 90 yards rushing and 25 through the air. The passing game opened up a bit more with Summers throwing for 286 yards, one touchdown and one interception with 22 out 37 completions. Kadletz gets nine catches for 111 yards and one touchdown.

Detroit comes to town with a 1-1 record for my third straight home game. Our winning ways continue as we pound them 31-13. Coleman gets 182 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries to bring his season totals to 440 yards and five touchdowns in just three games! If he keeps this up it sure will be hard not to resign him next year! Summers leaves the game early, but the x-rays came back negative so look for him to return in two weeks after my bye. Starting rookie linebacker Clarence Mueller will miss the next three games with a pulled groin, but he is the only starter to miss time so far this season.

My bye week comes early this year. Hopefully it will help Mueller recover quicker.

Arizona comes to Richmond for my fourth straight home game and helps me to my fourth straight win, 41-16. Coleman gets 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns and his backup, Kabinoff, gets 126 yards and one touchdown. Summers plays error free football and gets 98 yards passing and one touchdown. I really expected more from Summers, but with the rushing game average almost 250 yards per game I can't really fault him as long as he doesn't make costly mistakes.

We travel to Denver to play the 2-2 Broncos in our first road game. We win 38-31 to prove home-cooking isn't the only thing behind our awesome start. Coleman gets 112 yards without a touchdown to end his four game scoring streak. Summers passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns, but also gets two interceptions. Crowder finally makes his presence felt with five catches, 89 yards, and two touchdowns. Super safety RJ Harvey is the player of the game, though, with two interceptions returned for touchdowns and only two catches allowed out of 39 pass plays.

We travel to Dallas this week to face the 2-3 Cowboys. Unfortunately we learn just before the game that Austin "Powers" Porras, the anchor of my defensive line, will miss the next two to three months with a broken wrist. The defensive obviously suffers without him as we lose our first game of the season 41-17 to drop to 5-1. Even worse we lose several players with significant injuries in this game.

We head to Colorado Springs shaken and missing three of our key defensive players. Suddenly things are starting to look not so good this year. We defeat Colorado Springs 19-14. Summers leaves the game early with turf toe and O'Donnell comes in to lead the team to victory from behind. O'Donnell will start the next game but Summers will be available as the emergency quarterback should he be needed. The good news is that the doctors tell us we might actually get Karl Poston and Norman Robertson back before the playoffs this year.

San Diego comes into Richmond at 3-4 this week, but they leave at 3-5 as defeat them 28-10 to move up to 7-1. Austin Coleman breaks out of his mini-slump with 105 yards and a touchdown. Kabinoff again impresses everyone with a 114 yard performance. O'Donnell does a pretty good job completing about 62% of his passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in his first start.

We travel to Washington this week to play the hated Redskins. They are currently 6-2 and in second place in the division. This is a game with huge post season ramifications. They make the most of the opportunity and defeat us 40-24. Austin got his numbers (107 yards, one TD), and O'Donnell played pretty well too. I think the Washington players really just wanted this game more. Hopefully Robertson and Poston will be back for the rematch.

We travel to 2-7 Arizona this week and get embarrassed 13-10. This one can't be blamed on the defense.

Washington comes to Richmond this week for the rematch. We are now the team behind a game and desperately need to win to keep in the race for the division title. We defeat them 35-26 to pull even. Coleman leads the way with 161 yards and one touchdown and Summers gets his best game as a pro going 22/35 for 253 yards, three touchdowns, and a single interception. Crowder earns his pay this week with eight catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns. The team is very pleased to find that Karl Poston, Norman Robertson, and Austin Porras have all been upgraded to questionable for next weeks game just in time for the stretch run. All three are expected to start.

Philadelphia comes to town at 5-6 to face the healthy Archetypes who find themselves healthy for the first time in two months and defeat Philly 31-24. Coleman is held to 17 yards but still manages a touchdown to bring his lead-leading total to 11. Summers has another solid game completing 19 out of 28 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns and only one interception. WR Irv Crowder has a monster game catching eight passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns.

We travel to the Windy City this week to face 6-6 Chicago. They keep their playoff hopes alive with a 30-16 win. Summers thows two interceptions and Coleman is injured after only six carries and looks to miss the rest of the regular season.

We travel to New York this week really needing a win. We defeat the Giants 34-28 to move up to 10-4. Kabinoff gets 94 yards and two touchdowns in his first start this year. Summers has a great game completing 23 of 39 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. RJ Harvey comes up big with three interceptions.

Caroline comes to Richmond this week at 8-6. They win a close one 24-23. This team that started 7-1 has now gone 3-4 over the last seven so throw away all hope at a division title or playoff bye.

We travel to Philadelphia this week and win 31-9 to make our final record 11-5. Running back Riddick Boynton who spent most of this season on the injured list gets two touchdowns and 57 yards on just eight carries.

Regular Season Recap

There was much optimism in Richmond after the Archetypes stellar 7-1 start to the season. This optimism was tempered in the second half as the team went 4-4 in the stretch run. Luckily everyone is healthy going into the playoffs. Lets check out this year's key stats.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 14 games, 221/383, 2614 yards, 15 TD, 14 int, 76.4 QB Rating

Levon's season was pretty much up and down the whole way through. He seemed just as likely to have a three touchdown game as he was to have one with two interceptions. Hopefully he will become more consistent as he gets more experience.

RB Austin Coleman - 13 games, 209 carries, 1313 yards, 6.2 avg., 11 TD

He had his best year statistically even though he missed the last three games of the season. This guy has averaged 4.9 yards per carry over his career and he doesn't show any signs of slowing down yet. His numbers this year are even better considering he really wasn't featured exclusively but was part of a running back by committee approach!

RB Marvin Kabinoff - 3 starts, 181 carries, 1129 yards, 6.2 avg., 8 TD

As good as Coleman was this year, Kabinoff matched him almost stride for stride. This former seventh round draft pick really made the most of his opportunities this year and paired up with Coleman to give me my first ever multiple 1000 yard backs!

WR Irv Crowder - 61/107 catches, 1049 yards, 17.1 avg., 9 TD, 4 drops

This was a great year for the free agent acquisition. The scary thing his that his numbers can only get better as Summers learns how to best utilize his go-to receiver.

Offensive Line - 2839 team rushing yards (1st by 600 yards!), 27 Sacks Allowed (5th)

This was really an amazing year for the offensive line. I am really in awe of that rushing total. I tried to set up the offensive to be balanced, but in the end my rushing total was only 300 yards less then my passing total which was about average for the league.

LB Josh Cloud - 103 tackles, 37 assists, 2.0 sacks

The numbers stayed solid for this undrafted third year player even with the infusion of talent at linebacker. Look for him to anchor a much improved line next year.

DE Cory Matthews - 49 tackles, 10 assists, 14.0 sacks, 2 blks, 6 hurries

Cory Matthews continued to improve his play this year and was rewarded with great stats. This was his second year in a row with at least ten sacks.

S RJ Harvey - 66 tackles, 30 assists, 9 int, 3 TD, 6 dfns, 52.5 PDQ

Played brilliantly again this year even raising his game to new heights to make up for the injuries around him. He recorded three games with multiple interceptions and played consistent defense*throughout the year.

Team Statistics

Rushing: 5.0 / 4.1 / 3.8
Passing: 6.9 / 6.9 / 6.6

Wow, I have never seen a team average five yards per carry over an entire season! The defense really suffered with the loss of three of its top four players for substantial chunks of the season, but the offense improves in both areas.

Playoffs

Despite going 11-5 in the regular season we are forced to travel to Tampa Bay to face the also 11-5 Buccaneers. With a fully healthy roster we feel confident and roll to a 28-10 victory. Austin Coleman comes back big with a 96 yard, one touchdown performance. Summers plays error-free football and get 198 yards and two touchdowns to lead his team to the victory.

We travel to Washington to play the hated Redskins in the biggest game of this rivalry. We pull out our second straight road victory with a 28-24 victory! Summers plays an amazing game completing 20 out of 23 passes for 252 yards and three touchdowns. Cory Matthews got to the quarterback twice for sacks. The real hero of the game was Kabinoff has he scored the go ahead touchdown with 29 seconds left on a two yard run after setting up the play with a 20 yard run off right tackle. Unfortunetly we lost leading linebacker Josh Cloud for the rest of the playoffs in this game.

We travel to the Frozen Tundra this week to play the Packers for the conference crown. We feel confident heading into the game since the Packers finished the year 11-5 as well. This team is hungry. Austin Coleman really wants to win in what may be his last year in Richmond. He may just get his wish as we hand Green Bay 20-19 defeat! WE'RE GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!! Defense really carried the way this week. Cory Matthews had three sacks and a hurry to lead the unit. Summers played well getting 220 yards and two touchdowns on 12/22 passing.

This year's Superbowl pits Seattle against Richmond for the Lombardi trophy. Seattle finished the regular season 11-5, but that was good enough for a bye in the AFC (and not even good enough for a divisional championship in the NFC ). We feel extremely confident having won our last three games on the road against tough NFC competition. Seattle is the heavy favorite with the odds-makers though. Seattle is lead by the explosive RB Troy Rivers and great WR Curtis Chapman on offensive. Rivers carried the ball 265 times for 1334 yards and 10 touchdowns during the regular season. Chapman put up amazing numbers with 101 catches for 1543 yards and 8 touchdowns. He does seem to have a problem holding on to the ball though and their starting quarterback is doubtful (but not very good even when healthy). Their defense is led by safety Reggie Nelson. I'm not really sure how they managed to make it to the Superbowl. Their roster seems pretty devoid of talent. Coleman guarantees victory before boarding the team flight from Richmond.

We strike early and often to run the score up to 15-0, but Seattle scores just before the half to make it 15-7 at halftime. Seattle gets a touchdown and two point conversion late in the third to tie the game at 15-15. We run out almost the entire fourth quarter on a touchdown drive to make it 22-15 with just over four minutes left in the game. Seattle scores quickly to make is 22-22 with three minutes left. We get the ball in the shadow of our own uprights on our own 14 yard line. Coleman takes the hand off, fakes out the penetrating defensive lineman, turns up field just beyond the left tackle, breaks two tackles and is finally brought down after a 22 yard gain. You can tell Coleman really wants this ring. Kabinoff gets a quick handoff and follows the left guard for a 4 yard gain. PK Holmberg is warming up on the sideline. On second and sixth, Summers goes to his third read and finds WR Limond for 16 yards for the first down at the Seattle 41 yard line. Summer finds Limond a few plays later for a 14 yard gain to put the ball on the Seattle 30. We gain just five plays in the next three downs and one of our players is called for unnecessary roughness in desperation. This moves the ball back to the Seattle 40 yard and gives us a fourth-and-forty. Coach sends Holmberg out for the 57 yard field goal attempt with 36 seconds left in the game. Holmberg is cool as vanilla ice though as the ball is snapped, the hold is good, the kick is up… its got the distance… ITS GOOD!! Holmburg hits the go-ahead field goal with 36 seconds on the clock! Seattle gets the ball at their 18 yard line on the ensuing kick off. As the defense marches out to the field Cory Matthews looks over to Austin Coleman and yells "I got this one for you man... I got it…" Seattle's QB Young takes the snap out of the shotgun he's looking down the sidelines for the big play but my guys our like playing tight on the receivers like gloves. Matthews breaks free of his tackle and Young tries to get rid of the ball to avoid the sack, but the ref will have none of it and calls intentional grounding. Young takes the snap on his own eight yard line. He looks downfield for his All-Pro receiver, Chapman, but the coverage is just too good and he's forced to run with it, but gets just two yards before he's brought down. Seattle calls a timeout. Young takes the snap out of the shotgun at his own five yard line he looks for Chapman, but he's covered… he looks for his second receiver, but before he can even make the progression second-string DT Carlos Reid hits him from out of his blind side for the sack and the SUPERBOWL WIN!!! Coleman had 55 yards and a touchdown in the biggest game of his career. Summers threw for 164 yards and a touchdown. No one on my team had very good statistics, but the stadium is still shocked to learn Seattle linebacker Howie Kraft is awarded game MVP honors for his 10 tackle, one interception returned 84 yards for a touchdown performance. Not a single one of my players would trade his ring for that meaningless honor though.

Thanks for the info-- one more formatting question. Is the fairly extensive "white space" in your posting a necessary outsome of creating your document in html format, of is that something that you decided that you prefer?

I generally like the presentation, and might be willing to do something similar, but there is a bit of extra spacing-- I'm curious why that is so.

Quiksand: I have been trying to reduce the white space in my recent posts, but it seems whenever their is a line break it reads it as double spacing. There must be a way aroun this... its probably a bi-product of using MS Word to create the html instead of doing it myself.
Also, I just thought it could be that the discussion board software puts one linebreak for each {p} in the html and then puts an additional linebreak because the {p} is on a different line... ie.. its not interpreting the html exactly as html, but also attempts to apply its own formatting rules in addition. I'll look into it.

Daimyo - The problem with white space is a function of MS-Word and the way it converts itself to HTML.

The best way around that is to type up your career notes in Notepad, using generic formatting tags when necessary.

If you need help with formatting tags let me know...

Yeah, I just looked through the html it was creating and found the problems. I can do the codes myself, but I was liking the way Word was really simplifying the process for me so that could just concentrate on writing. Also, I'm terrible about proofreading for things like this and Word was helping me with that too... I might just type it up in Word (for the proofreading and spellchecking), then copy and paste to notepad and the add in the font, bold, and center codes myself as they seem to be the only ones I use much.

Looks good above, but your last post seems to have meshed into the background sonehow (at least on my Netscape browser).

I don't think I ko enough about html to follow your lead, but it's good to know that it can be done. I might post something in the general forum to see if someone (or you) can spoon-feed me more kindergarten-style instructions.

Thanks, and good luck with the Archetypes.

2026 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. Washington FINALLY makes a substantial change in their ticket prices, but I doubt it will be enough to make my franchise profitable. We desperately need to put more luxury boxes in our stadium to compete with the larger market teams.

I face a major decision this offseason. Both Cory Matthews and Austin Coleman are unrestricted free agents this year and I need to franchise one. I do not think there is any possible way for me to bring back both because I have many good RFA's I really need to keep. I decide to keep Cory Matthews and hope Coleman somehow slips through free agency. I just can't justify paying big money on a 31-year old running back. Thirty-six year old starting CB Shawn Mcgee will also most likely not be returning next year for the same reason.

I head into free agency with just over $27 million in cap room, but lots of players to sign. Phildelphia offers me a third round pick (10) for 33-year old defensive tackle Norman Robertson and I accept it. He was a great player and the team will surely miss him, but we really need to free up as much cap space as possible and he was going to be an unsignable free agent next year anyway. Austin Coleman is asking for a $17 million per year salary and I simply cannot afford to make him an offer. Sadly, the archetypal Archetype will not be with the Archetypes next year.

There are no players who interest me this year so I skip ahead to week eleven. Austin Coleman signs with St Louis in week two for three years and $60 million. Congratulations Austin, just remember to wear your Richmond hat when you go into the Hall of Fame. Shawn McGee gets great offers from eleven teams but waits until week ten before signing with AFC champion Seattle for three years at $33 million. Reportedly he was holding out hope that the Archetypes would somehow find the cap space to bring him back to the team that made him a starter and star at CB. In week nineteen I find a decent second year DT who is willing to sign on for seven years near the minimum. I resign All-Pro DE Cory Matthews to a contract worth about $43 million over four years. I resign All-Pro G Rusty Clancy to a four year, $32 million deal. I resign Kabinoff to a four year, $42 million deal, but I doubt I'll keep him around after the first two years.

Amateur Draft

I don't expect much from this draft, although another late round find at RB would be great. I am extremely surprised to find a pretty amazing young WR left when its my turn to pick and I happily grab him with the 36th pick. I also eye a great RB that I will target in the second if he is still available. Unfortunately he is grabbed with the 70th pick just before its my turn at seventy-two. Thwarted, I grab a great guard with my second pick. Thomas Cardinal, a RB, is my third choice. Take a "red-liner" running back with other third choice hoping to find a replacement for Coleman the quick way. I take a LB with my fourth pick, but I strongly fear he will bust. I take Hardy Cronk, a RB whose symmetry of rating interests me. I take a pretty good looking QB with my sixth pick. With the last pick in the draft I take a TE.

Preseaon

My sixth round QB busts slightly, but I don't really care as he will sit the bench all season. Summer's ratings slid a little lower this year too. He once looked like a superstar, now he looks pretty much like a "good enough to start player." Still he had huge games in the playoffs and we look to him to play well this year.

My scout still thinks QB Sammy O'Donnell is better than Levon Summers and I'm starting to think so too. This year could be the deciding factor. We go 4-0 in the preseason for the first time in this career.

Regular Season

I get about 12 games into this season before my computer crashes. I'm not sure at what point I last saved and its late so I decide to go to sleep and deal with it the next day. Forward to the next day… I find that I last saved right after exhibition. I'm usually very careful to save after each game before I check the stats, but it was really late and I guess I forgot. I guess the only thing I can do at this point is re-sim the season… ><

I start the season with a 37-11 win over Buffalo at home. Kabinoff starts the season off right with a huge 14 carry, 167 yard game. My second running back, Creamer gets 74 yards and a touchdown. Looks like my running game didn't miss a beat in this game even without the great Austin Coleman who happens to get -1 yards on five carries in his debut with St. Louis.

Dallas comes to town and we defeat them 20-13. Summers has an efficient day completing 18 of 25 passes for 250+ yards, two touchdowns and a interception. Austin "Powers" Porras has a huge three sack game to lead the defense.

My bye week comes too early this year. Hopefully we'll have another more important one later in the season.

Dallas comes into Richmond and we win our third straight 38-21. It disturbs me that my schedule seems to always include so many Road games at the beginning of the year. Kabinoff gets 58 yards and two touchdowns and Summers has a great game going 18/28 for 275 yards and two touchdowns. "Powers" Porras comes up big again with two sacks and two players get interceptions for in this total team effort.

Arizona comes to the Richmond Coliseum and we get our fourth straight win 20-10. Suumers had another efficient game completing 12 out of 20 passes for 221 yards and a touchdown. Summers has now played four whole games and still has only one interception. SEVEN players on my defense record at least one sack this game, led by undrafted LB Josh Cloud with two. Sadly leading receiver Irv Crowder will miss the next three to five games due to injury.

We travel to Carolina this week for our first road game of the season. It also turns out to be our first loss of the year as Carolina nudges us 27-24. They hold my running game in check allowing only 66 yards total on 29 carries. Summers keeps the game close though 256 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

We travel to the frozen tundra this weekend to play 4-2 Green Bay in a game that might turn out to have playoff ramifications later. We lose 38-21. The running game is non-existent again. Summers manages 312 yards and three touchdowns, but his four interceptions really prove to be too much to overcome.

Washington comes to Richmond this week and we defeat them 28-21 on with a last minute scoring drive. Kabinoff gets 124 yards and a touchdown and Creamer runs for 54 yards including a 30 yard touchdown run for the go ahead score with 30 seconds left in the game. RJ Harvey comes up big with two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown.

The G-men come to town this week for a battle of division leading 5-2 teams. We win the game 28-3 to establish our dominance at mid-season. The offensive puts up pitiful numbers, by my defense balls me out by forcing eight punts, creating four tournovers, and returning two interceptions touchdowns.

We travel to New England to face the 5-3 Patriots this week. They thump us 31-8. My running games is nonexistent and Summers only completes six out of 34 passes. Luckily Crowder will be back next week which should kick start my offense back into shape.

We travel to Dallas this week to face the 3-5 Cowboys. Unfortunately both my starting safeties will miss this game. We lose 27-6. Summers throws two interceptions and no touchdowns and the defense can't seem to make a tackle.

Philadephia comes into town this week. The Eagles are 6-4 and tied for the division lead. We break out of out two game funk with a 44-14 trashing. Kabinoff explodes for 122 yards a touchdown on just ten carries and O'Donnell comes off the bench to pass for 207 yards and four touchdowns. Summers will most likely miss the rest of the regular season with a sprained ankle.

Manchester travels to Richmond to face us today. We are missing three key starters on defense and our starting quarterback, but we still need a strong finish to make the playoffs. We lose this one 24-17 behind a non-existent running game and a mistake filled game from QB O'Donnell.

Washington comes to Richmond. We really need this game. We take it 42-12. Kabinoff gets 104 yards and a touchdown and O'Donnell plays an amazing completing 23 out of 28 passes for 266 yards and five touchdowns! My defense gets a huge boost after the game with the announcement that both my starting safeties will return for the next game. Summers is at about 80%, but we decide to give O'Donnell a few games. If nothing else it should increase his trade value.

Tampa Bay comes into town this week at 8-5. It seems I play so many good teams outside my division each year. I take this one 28-21 to move into a tie with the Giants for first place. O'Donnell has another great game completing 17 of 20 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.

At 9-5 we travel to Philadelphia to play the 8-6 Eagles. Philly wins it 27-20 and the Giants lose to set up a three way tie in the division going into the final week with Washington only a single game back.

We defeat Arizona 37-14 to finish the regular season at 10-6 and DIVISION CHAMPIONS! Summers gets 220 yards and a touchdown in his first game back from the inactive list to lead the team.

However, BOTH my starting defensive ends, "Powers" Porras and Cory Matthews will miss the playoffs.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 11 games, 154/285, 2383 yards, 14 TD, 8 int, 86.6 QB Rating

Summers started this season great with just a single interception in the first four games. He still played pretty well and has shown steady improvement in his three years of play. We are worried that he has averaged just only 11 full game per season due to various injuries, but as of now he's still the QB of the future.

QB Sammy O'Donnell - 5 games. 81/130, 1151 yards, 14 TD, 3 int, 117.1 QB Rating
O'Donnell played amazing in injury relief for Summers. We certainly may have a full blown QB controversy next year.

RB Marvin Kabinoff - 215 carries, 1088 yards, 5.0 avg., 9 TD
Kabinoff played pretty well in his first year as the main back, however, his inconsistency worries me a lot.

WR Marvin Kadletz - 53/95 catches, 1008 yards, 7 TD, 8 drops
Kadletz had a pretty good year. He got to play as the primary receiver much of the year while Crowder suffered through various injuries and he produced as expected.

WR Irv Crowder - 12 games, 47/73 catches, 795 yards, 16.9 avg., 6 TD, 4 drops
Crowder played great when he wasn't injured. We need a big postseason from this guy if we're to go far in this year's playoffs.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 3.8 / 3.2 / 3.8
Passing: 8.5 / 6.5 / 6.5

My running game took a huge hit with the loss of Austin Coleman, but my passing attack had a huge increase. Overall I attempted the fewest passes, but my average was golden.

PF: 418
PA: 314

Playoffs

I finally get to host a playoff game this year as the NFC East Division winner. I think I've won this division three times now and I've still never gotten a first round bye. In my first game I will be playing the 9-7 Philadelphia Eagles. Last time I hosted a playoff game the Eagles stole a win as the simulate game window closed early in the fourth quarter when they had the lead. Ever since then the Eagles have been known as the "Evil Eagles" around the Richmond area. We have assurances from the NFL that the game will go its full length this time. We whoop the Eagles 45-17. Revenge is sweet when you win. The running game produces four touchdowns including two by rookie backup Creamer.

We travel to St Louis this week to face the NFC West winning Rams. This game will be especially special to Archetype fans as Austion Coleman, still the favorite player of many Virginians, is the starting tailback for the Rams. Coleman had his worst year as pro with the Rams, gaining barely more than 600 yards rushing. St Louis wins this one 16-14 to prevent the repeat.

Green Bay defeats St Louis in the next round and goes on to destroy Colorado Springs 51-7 in Superbowl.

2027 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. I franchise star receiver Marvin Kadletz and head into free agency. The Atlanta Falcons offer me the 7th overall pick for my super OT Shannon Wyatt. He is definitely a strong player, but the 7th pick is usually a real impact player so I check out the draft board. There are three players that I would love to add to my team as well as three pretty good tackles in case of the three I want is gone early. I decide to take a risk and trade Wyatt.

I sign a great OT in free agency to a four year, $60 million contract to replace Wyatt. At the end of free agency I accept two more deals. In the first I get a third round pick and a good center for last year's leading rushing Marvin Kabinoff. In the second I accept a deal for last year's starting center for a third round pick and a linebacker I immediately cut. The final result of the deals is that I got a better center and $3 million in free cap space to sign my URFA's after the draft.

Amateur Draft

I possess the seventh and 31st picks in this year's draft. My goal is to get a starter quality cornerback and a stud RB. I get my stud CB with my first pick and I spot a pretty good RB down my scout's list I will target for my next pick. The running back is already gone by the time my pick comes around. I see a pretty good guard and a safety with potential to be a star. I only have two safeties on my roster and RJ Harvey is already in his tenth year, so I take the safety. I get the guard with my second round pick. This draft really looks to lack depth so I'm beginning to wish I didn't have to take three third round players. I get a maxed out punter with my first third round pick. I take a RB with my second third round selection. I take a quarterback with my final third round selection. I get a fifth WR with my fourth pick. I take a DE purely as a roster filler with my fifth round pick. I get a decent TE in the sixth round

Preseaon

I'm happy to report that one of my URFA defensive tackles broke out in a real big way this year. I submit for your approval undrafted rookie free agent, Ernie Sweeney.

My other top rookies came out of training camp nicely as well. Here is Bryant Beuerlein, the seventh overall pick in this year's draft.

Bryant should step in as the starter at cornerback and I expect Sweeney will get significant playing time in some kind of rotation this year. Counting Sweeney, this draft was definitely a success. Here is my full roster heading into this season.

I make it through the exhibition 4-0 and even more important, I am injury free! My goal this year is nothing short of the Superbowl.

Regular Season

We travel to Pittsburgh to open up our tenth anniversary season. We win the game 38-20. Hardy Cronk plays above his head and gets 171 yards and three touchdowns. Summers plays great getting 209 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 pass attempts.

We travel to Washington this week to face the hated Redskins and defeat them 27-13. Summers plays another brilliant game getting 223 yards and two touchdowns without an interception.

The road tour continues in Philadelphia this week where we face the 1-1 Eagles. They barely defeat us 23-20. The running game falters and Summers never really gets it going.

Cincinnati comes to Richmond for my first home game of the year and spanks us 29-7. The offense can't do much of anything and the defense doesn't show up to bail them this time.

Arizona comes to Richmond this week. Once again they are the cellar dwellers of the division. We teach them a thing or two about the chain of command with a 37-7 blow out win. Summers passes for 304 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. The running game actually shows up this week. I think my offense is really built around the run. If I can get even just a 100 yards on the ground per game I think my offense will be in good shape.

We travel to Dallas this week. I like this schedule. These early road games really toughen up the team. We manage to score 10 points in the final six minutes to steal this one. Summers gets 225 yards passing and a touchdown.

We travel to Arizona to face the pitiful Cardinals for the second time in three weeks. Must be Christmas time. We win this one 33-7. Summers goes out about midway and my two quarterbacks combine for 200 yards and three touchdowns with a single interception.

We travel to Portland this week. We defeat them 23-13. Two of my backs combine for 217 yards rushing and my kicker and defense do the rest. We now sit atop the division at 7-2 with six of our final seven games at home.

The hated Redskins come to Richmond at 4-5. This is a bit of an off year for them and we would love to kick them while they're down. We get the W with a 23-16 win. The offense scored quick in this game and then let the defense hold them for the win.

The Eagles come to town this week. It seems the Eagles are good year after year and this is no exception. They sit atop the division with us, tied at 8-2. Unfortunately they beat us in Philadelphia earlier in the year so we really need this game if we want to win the division. We make a huge statement with a 27-0 shutout win! We held them to only 11 yards rushing on the game, only allowed three first downs on the game, and gave up 74 total yards of offense.

We travel to Green Bay to face the Packers. We've had a lot of trouble with Green bay in our history and it seems like we ALWAYS have to play them at Lambo. This year is different, however. This year we win 24-19 to move up to 10-2.

This week the 3-7 Giants come to Richmond. They habd me my third defeat 39-33. Three key starters missed this game including stand-out rookie CB Bryant Beuerlein.

St Louis travels to Richmond this week. St Louis is another perennial powerhouse that we seem to have to play each year. This time we defeat them 33-8. RB Cronk goes off for 193 yards and three touchdowns. The defense holds them to only two first downs until the very final minutes of the game.

Baltimore comes to Richmond for the first time and we defeat them 47-26 to drop them to 8-7 and most likely out of the playoffs (although it’s the AFC, so who knows…). The defense plays huge once again. RJ Harvey leads the way with an amazing three interception with two returned for touchdowns.

My final game is against 5-10 Dallas, but I had already wrapped up home field advantage throughout the playoffs last week so I let my injured players rest but still win 34-17. I loose two players to injuries for the season, but neither is a starter so I feel good going into the playoffs.

Regular Season Recap

This team was easily the best I've had during my tenure at Richmond. I feel we are strong at every position and have enough depth at most to cover for injuries. We went 13-3 despite playing most of the season without leading receiver Irv Crowder and my best cornerback. Both will play in the playoffs though.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 16 starts, 236/401, 3455 yards, 25 TD, 7 int, 100.5 QB Rating

Summers put all talk of a quarterback controversy to rest early this season with career best numbers in every category. He should easily be an All-Pro this year and even garner some voted for MVP.

RB Hardy Cronk - 16 starts, 303 carries, 1159 yards, 3.8 avg., 11 TD
We're really starting to think we could plug anyone one into our offense and generate 1000 yards rushing.

RB Thomas Creamer - 2 starts, 174 carries, 762 yards, 4.3 avg., 3 TD
I mean anyone. Creamer played well has the second back and even started two games at fullback due to injury.

WR Marvin Kadletz - 64/116 catches, 1028 yards, 16.0 avg., 7 TD, 13 drops
Kadletz had a pretty good year. He got to play as the primary receiver much of the year while Crowder suffered through various injuries just like last year. Way too many drops this year though.

FS RJ Harvey - 65 tackles, 11 int, 2 TD, 5 dfns, 51.6 PDQ
This guy should probably be DPOY. This was probably the best year for this potential HOFer.

SS Karl Poston - 78 tackles, 7 int, 1 TD, 9 dfns, 40.5 PDQ
The second half of Richmond's dynamic duo on defense. I should sweep the 1st team safety awards this year I think.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 3.8 / 3.0 / 3.7
Passing: 8.5 / 6.5 / 6.8

My numbers didn't change much from last year, but the league passing average went up which makes my defense look that much better. My scoring differential is where you can see the real change in my team.

PF: 451

Playoffs

I get the first bye for the first time in this career and then find that my first opponent is Philadelphia. We split the season series, but I defeated them in the playoffs last year so they should be hungry for this one. The good news is my players are hungrier. We go out and prove it with a 23-13 win. Creamer leads the way on offense with 179 yards a touchdown while Summers play mistake free football and the defense plays its normal suffocating style.

Tampa Bay will be our opponent for the NFC championship game. They entered the playoffs at 10-6 as the winners of the NFC Central. They had to go through the Wild Card round and seem to have several injuries coming into this game. We handle them easily 34-14 to earn a birth in our second Superbowl in three years!! Creamer had another huge game with 153 yards rushing and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Winslett was huge with 95 yards rushing and one touchdown on 23 carries. Summers passed for 205 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Backup defensive tackle Carlos Reid let the defense with two sacks.

This year Denver will come to Richmond for the big game. The first half is mostly a battle of field position, but Denver manages to score a touchdown early to make it 7-0 at the half. We score on our first possession of the second half to make it 7-7. We stop Denver on their next possession, get the ball back and drive in for another score to make it 14-7 Archetypes with six minutes left in the third. We stop Denver again and get this time drive for a field goal to make it 17-7. My defense is starting to smell blood in the water and makes another great stop. We drive into their territory but they force us to settle for another field goal to make it 20-7 with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. Denver takes the ball this time and drives all the way into the redzone. My defense comes up strong and forces the field goal to make it 20-10 with five minutes left in the game. Denver attempts an onside kick which they manage to recover and they quickly drive for a touchdown to make it 20-17 with four and a half minutes remaining. We field the kick and then turn the ball over deep in our territory. My defense holds Denver to a field goal, but the game is now tied with only 4 minutes remaining. We field the ball in the endzone for a touchback, move to midfield and then score on a long touchdown to make it 27-20 with a little over a minute to go. My starting CB Darrell Ross gets an interception at my 17 yard line with nine second left and Summers takes a knee for the SUPERBOWL VICTORY!! I wish all the Superbowls were exciting as the two in which I have played…

Creamer carried the ball 22 times for 110 yards on the ground and one touchdown. Summers completed 19 out of 28 passes for 245 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. DE Cory Matthews was awarded Superbowl MVP for his 6 tackles, 2.5 sacks and single pass deflection.

Player Awards

My offensive line pulls a near sweep of the 1st team awards!

C Irv Welch - 1st Team All-Pro Center

G William Sharkey - 1st Team All-Pro Guard

G Rusty Clancy - 1st Team All-Pro Guard

T Aaron Craig - 1st Team All-Pro Offensive Tackle.

P Clay Hane - 1st Team All-Pro Punter

2028 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. I franchise OT Stanley Beyer. He was the only starting offensive linemen to make All-Pro 1st team last season and he ius also years old. He might not be back with the team next year if I can find a better option, but I franchise him anyway so I at least have the choice. I only have $13 million left under the cap so I won't be picking up any free agents this year.

Amateur Draft

The talent is pretty weak by the time my pick comes around so my main goal in this draft is take players who contribute and not waste my precious cap room. I grab a TE in the first round who will step right in as my starter. I grab a DE who will make a decent back up, but will probably never develop into anything more than that. In the third I get a WR who should make a decent backup receiver. I take another career backup in the fourth, this time a LB. I grab another decent backup LB with my fifth pick. I pull a RB in the sixth that looks like the prototypical come from nowhere and get a thousand year backs I've been accustomed to so far in this career. In the seventh round I find a DT I can't believe I missed earlier. This guy actually looks like he could start in a few years if needed!

Preseason

My sixth round pick at RB breaks out just enough to make him look like a keeper for the next few years. At least he do pretty well in my system. None of my other picks had much change, but as expected this draft class was very weak. Here is how my scout sees things.

Just for fun I decided to look up and see how each of my players was originally acquired by team. The number in the "acquired" column is the round of the draft in which the player was selected. URFA means he was an undrafted rookie I picked up before training camp, FA means he was acquired via free agency, and T means he was acquired in a trade. For free agents or traded players, the player's most recent team is listed in parenthesis. I am happy to see that my dominating defense was entirely homegrown. My team contains eleven former first round picks, ten of which are projected as starters for this year. The eleventh, safety Otis Goel, is the heir apparent to future HOF RJ Harvey in the secondary. My roster contains only two former top ten picks, with the highest being the fifth overall selection, superstar quarterback Levon Summers. Despite being the defending Super Bowl champions, my team is extremely young. My team averages just three years of experience per player which of course I dragged down because my roster contains 18 rookies. My starters have a little more experience, averaging a little over five years experience per player. All things considered, this is a team that really has the potential to dominate over the next five years.

Regular Season

We travel to the other city by the bay this week to battle the Raiders. We win 30-21 behind 375 yards passing and two touchdowns from Summers.

The G- men come to Richmond this week where we defeat them 24-10 behind two Creamer touchdowns and stifling defense that keeps New York off the score board until late in the third quarter.

We travel to Arizona this week to face the Cardinals. We pull out the come from behind victory behind back up quarter back O'Donell as Summers sits the whole game due to minor injuries.

We travel to Philadelpha to fave the Eagles this week looking for our fourth straight win although we are forced to play this one without Summers again. O'Donnell throws four interceptions and we lose 18-6

We travel to San Diego this week and get a bit of good news before the game as we learn that Summers will start this one. We win 24-20 behind 443 yards passing from Summers.

The Cardinals come to Richmond this week looking for revenge. We once again deny them, this time 34-7 as Summers gets 262 yards and three touchdowns.

The always tough Rams come into Richmond but never have a chance as Summers plays out of this world and we win 48-21. His final totals are 36/48 passes, 462 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.

We travel to New Jersey to face the Giants this week. We win 26-21 as Summers gets 285 yards and three touchdowns. Summers has been playing absolutely amazing since returning from his injury. In his last four games he has totaled 1453 yards and eleven touchdowns with only three interceptions!

The Cowboys come to Richmond this week and we win 31-14 despite the fact that Summers is forced to leave the game early with minor injuries.

Denver comes to Richmond this week to play. We destroy then 38-7 as Summers plays another absolutely amazing game and ends up 391 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.

Philadelphia comes to town this week and we get our tenth win 23-16. Summers leaves the game early and the defense does enough to preserve the win.

Washington comes to town at 8-3. They have the second best record in the NFC at a full two games behind us. They narrowly edge us 15-14 after Summers is pulled out early with this much talent I feel I can be extra careful to not let my players get too injured before the playoffs.

We travel to Dallas this week. I decide to sit Summers until he is fully healthy and hope O'Donnell can keep us in first place in the NFC. We defeat Dallas 17-9 behind good defense.

The 6-7 Buccaneers come to Richmond this week and we blow them out 40-17. Creamer has a huge game getting 134 yards and two touchdowns and O'Donnell rows for 280 yards and three touchdowns.

We travel to Atlanta to face the 4-10 Falcons. We drop them 37-14 to move our record to 13-2. O'Donnell does his best impression of Summers passing for 227 yards and three touchdowns.

We travel to Washington to face the 11-4 Redskins in the Season finale. We have already wrapped up a first round bye, but we need to win this one to ensure ourselves home field throughout the playoffs. We esaily defeat the Redskins 30-7 to finish the year an outstanding 14-2. O'Donnel gives us another great game with 248 yards and two touchdowns. I just hope this kid signs with an AFC team next year as I really don't want to have face him every year (unless it’s in the Super Bowl hehe)!!

Regular Season Recap

I won this Super Bowl last year, but I feel this year's team is at least twice as good. We finished 14-2 and I think could have just as easily been 16-0 as the two games we lost we played almost entirely without our starting quarterback.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 186/283, 2643 yards, 17 TD, 3 int, 111.3 QB Rating

Summers played amazing this year in limited time. I intentionally played him very sparingly at any sign of minor injury to protect him for the playoffs. When he played he was simply amazing, considering the number above were produced in about eight full games.

QB Sammy O'Donnell - 153/275, 2072, 15 TD, 11 int, 81.3 QB Rating
Excellent season for the backup QB in his last year with my club. He got a lot of time this season and should be the hottest free agent on the market this offseason.

RB Thomas Creamer - 2 starts, 234 carries, 1020 yards, 4.3 avg., 7 TD
Creamer is just the latest in a long line of RB to play way above their ratings for my team. I think he is about the fifth different back to gain over 1000 yards as an Archetype.

WR Myron Keister - 61/111 catches, 1076 yards, 17.6 avg., 8 TD, 8 drops
Keister emerged as the starter in training camp this year and never looked back as he emerged as a huge big play threat for my team this year. Definitely a keeper!

WR Marvin Kadletz - 65/114 catches, 1063 yards, 16.3 avg., 7 TD, 5 drops
Kadletz played great this year and produced his greatest statistical year yet. He cut his drops from 13 to five which was a huge help to the team.

DE Austin Porras - 29 tackles, 13.5 sacks, 1 blk, 7 hurries
DE Cory Matthews - 40 tackles, 12 sacks, 3 blks, 1 hurry

My defensive line was once again anchored by these two great backs who have played together their entire careers.

FS RJ Harvey - 77 tackles, 6 int, 1 TD, 11 dfns, 43.9 PDQ
This was an off year. He's that good.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 3.7 / 4.0 / 3.8
Passing: 8.4 / 5.7 / 6.4

My offensive numbers didn't change much this year and my rushing defensewas below average for the first time in years, but my passing defense has gotten better each year and now looks to be really good.

PF: 453
PA: 238

Playoffs

I get a first round bye for the second consecutive year. This time my first opponent will be the New Orleans Saints. I defeat them 31-9 before a sold out crowd of Richmond faithful. The defense wins this one behind the play of backup safety and future star, Otis Goel.

San Francisco comes to Richmond at 14-3. They are easily the second best team in the league and many around country jokingly refer to this game as "the real Super Bowl." Second best team means nothing to us though as we clobber them 28-13 to earn our second consecutive Super Bowl birth and third in the last four years. O'Donnell entered the game early and passed for 278 yards and three touchdowns, but broke his finger and will not be available for the Super Bowl.

New England comes to Richmond for the big game. We start scoring off right with an 87 yard touchdown drive on our first possession. New England moves into our territory, but we pick them off only to fumble the ball a few plays later. We force New England to punt and Marvin Kadletx returns it 99 yards for a touchdown to make it 14-0! We force New England to punt again and we drive 97 yards for our third touchdown to make it 21-0. We then trade punts until half time. New England scores a touchdown and a field goal early in the third to cut it to 21-10. We go marching again, this time for 82 yards to make it 28-10 with about eight minutes to go in the third. New England scores quickly on a five play, 78 yard touchdown drive to make it 28-17. We punt, but then intercept them and tack on a field goal at the end of a time consuming drive to make it 31-17 with about four minutes left in the fourth. New England tries to make something happen, but they end up turning the ball over on downs and we run out the clock for our SECOND CONSECUTIVE SUPER BOWL WIN!!! Creamer is named MVP of the game for his 94 yard, two touchdown performance.

Did someone say juggernaut?

Good looking team there...nice getting an URFA breakout! How much did he sign for after his rookie season? I'm assuming you had to bid for him on the open amrket, which couldnt have been cheap...

He was a restricted free agent... he asked for 7,9,11 I think (I can't remember the bonus). I offered him 7,7,7,7 (with the same bonus plus maybe $500k) and he agreed. I normally find I can negotiate fairly easy with RFA's and franchise players.. I guess its that whole exclusive rights thing (otherwise known as holding them hostage until they agree to sign).

2029 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I accidentally overwrote most of this report with my 2030 report so I'll go back and try to fill in what was ehre, but don't expect too much detail for this one.

I don't make any changes at coach or scout and I don't sign any free agents.

Overall, I don't think my team is as strong as last year, but then again I think I don't need to be as strong as last year just to win the Super Bowl. This team is definitely looking for the three-peat and anything less would be a huge disappointment to the players and the fans.

Regular Season

The Cowboys come to Virginia this week for the opener and we pick up just where we left off with a 46-26 win. Summers throws for almost 300 yards and three touchdowns and my running game gives me 200 yards and two touchdowns. RJ Harvey is game MVP after returning an interception 99 yards for a touchdown.

We travel to New Orleans this week for a playoff rematch. We take this too, 27-7 as Summers trhows for almost 300 yards and gets three touchdowns.

We travel to Arizona to face the surprisingly 2-0 Cardinals. They defeat us for the first time in years 30-17. Summers has an off game getting two interceptions and no touchdowns.

I get my bye week to rest and health. I am starting to get bitten by the injury bug this year after a few years of relief.

We travel to New York to face the Giants this week. We double them up, 24-12. Burnett runs wild for 133 yards and Creamer gets 46 and a touchdown.

Philadelphia comes to Richmond this week. The Eagles seem suddenly bad this year at 1-4. We defeat them 38-17. Summers throws for 300 yards and four touchdowns in this one.

We travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys for the second time this year. We get this on too, this time 13-7 in a defensive battle. We either force them to punt or intercept the ball on every Cowboy possession except for one in which they scored a touchdown.

Washington comes into Richmond this week sitting atop the division at 6-0 for this WB game of the week. We take this one 23-10. Burnett replaces the injured Creamer in the starting lineup and runs for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

We travel to New England this week for another huge game against the 6-1 Patriots. We take this one 34-7 to establish ourselves as midseason favorites at 7-1. Burnett runs for 204 yards a touchdown on 30 carries to pretty much earn the starting job for the rest of the season.

The 4-4 Giants pay a visit to Richmond this week. We don't let up at all and win 27-14. Burnett gets 138 yards and two touchdowns.

The Cardinals come to Richmond at 5-4 and manage to sweep the season series with a 16-10 win.

Buffalo comes to Richmond this week and we regain our winning ways with a 40-10 blowout victory. Summers gets 283 yards and three touchdowns and my backs combine for about 150 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

San Francisco comes to town for the rematch of last year's "The Real Super Bowl." We defend our victory with a 39-10 blow out. My defense gives me great field position all game and the offense does what it needs to take advantage.

We travel to Washington this week. The Redskins have been in a but of a free fall since out last game have lost five of their last six to drop to 7-5. We're happy to run salt in their wounds with a 46-31 win as the defenses go off to have a drink together and end up missing the game. Summers takes advantage with a 349 yard three touchdown day and third string RB Winslett runs for 94 yards and two touchdowns.

We travel to Philly to face the 8-5 Eagles this week. They pull out the narrow victory 13-10 as Summers is forced out of the game early. We are happy to see that Arizona has dropped to 7-7 and out of playoff contention as they seem to be the only team capable of defeating us in normal conditions.

We travel to Green Bay, one of our least favorite places to play, to face the Packers. They defeat us 20-13 to make our final game must win for a playoff bye. Green Bay is now tied with us at 11-4, so we may have lost all hope of home field throughout the playoffs.

Indianapolis comes in at 11-4 for another challenging game. We get back to our winning ways, though, with a 34-0 shutout to finish this season at 12-4.

Regular Season Recap

Despite finishing 12-4, we do not get a first round bye as both St Louis and Green Bay also finished 12-4.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 312/483, 3948 yards, 26 TD, 18 int, 92.3 QB Rating

Proved to the league that he could play a full season and dominate. Disappointed by the number of interceptions after his last few years of error free football.

RB Terrance Burnett - 8 starts, 201 carries, 1010 yards, 5.0 avg., 9 TD
He was totally dominating games before being injured. I hope he's not a free agent next year cause I would like to see what he could do with a full season as the featured back.

FS RJ Harvey - 63 tackles, 9 int, 2 TD, 7 dfns, 47.1 PDQ
He just keeps putting up good year after good year even though with his age.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.1 / 3.6 / 3.9
Passing: 8.1 / 5.7 / 6.6

My rushing offense recovered from last year and my defense in improved. Unfortunately this didn't translate into wins as I played a very tough schedule.

PF: 439
PA: 230

Playoffs

The hated Redskins come to Richmond for the playoffs this year and leave losers as we defeat them 40-24. Summers plays well getting 224 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.

We are forced to return to Green Bay this week to play the Packers. We pull off the upset 21-14 to exercise a few of our Lambeau demons. The defense again plays a great game and the offense just barely does enough to win.

We travel to St Louis this week as we attempt to get to the Super Bowl the hard way. We're actually favored in this game despite the location. We get the win 24-16. Summers leads his team to its third straight Super Bowl with 250 yards passing and three touchdowns in the win.

Despite playing on the road to get here, the Super Bowl comes to Richmond for the third straight year. We will face Indianapolis this year in a rematch of the regular season finale. If you remember we shut out Indy 34-0 in that game just a little over a month ago so we're extremely confident in this rematch.

We begin the game forcing Indianapolis to punt five consecutive times. Meanwhile, we rack up 10 points on a touchdown and a field goal. Indy then gets a field goal with about nine minutes left in the half. We come back to get a field goal at the end of the half to make it 13-3. We open the second half with a twelve play, 82 yard, seven minute drive to make it 20-3 midway through the third. Indy gets a field goal to make it 20-6. I get another field to make it 23-6 and my defense shuts them out the rest of the way to give us our THIRD STRAIGHT SUPER BOWL VICTORY!!

Levon Summers is Super Bowl MVP with 235 yards and a touchdown and my running game gives meover 150 yards and a touchdown. I have a feeling that Super Bowl MVP will not be Summer's only hardware this season.

2030 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. I notice that former Archetype Austin Coleman has decided to hang up his cleats. Coleman finished sixth all-time in rushing yards and touchdowns yet tenth in total carries, which I think truly shows his greatness. He averaged right at five yards per carry over his entire carrier. I start the year with about $24 million in free cap space. I have three UFA's of note. K Wesley Holmberg, the last remaining member of the inaugural Archetypes, my very old starting C Irv Welsch and 11th year veteran super safety Karl Poston. I franchise Holmberg since I used my franchise tag on Poston in the 2025 season. I most likely will not bid on Poston in this free agency period because of his age and because I have a more than capable backup who is already starting to complain about not starting. Karl Poston accepts a bid from Baltimore in week three for three years at $25 million. Interestingly, Thomas Creamer a running back who had a lot of success in my system over the last fours despite his bad ratings draws a three year, $50 million offer from Miami! No wonder I can win the Super Bowl each year with the computer teams making deals like that! In week six I manage to sign a sixth year, near maxed out center for a three year $23 million deal to replace my aged veteran. I really think one of the keys to this game is to be constantly cycling in new players and letting go of older ones and so far I have been able to do pretty well at it in this career. My much older center, Irv Welsch gets an identical deal from Chicago in the next week despite his higher age and lower ratings. In week 12 I pick up a pretty good second year safety near the minimum. Josh Cloud, my first ever rookie breakout signs with Seattle in week 14 for three years and $26 million. Although he once was a breakout player, his abilities have decreased each year since to the point that he is now really nothing special. With no other players of interest left, I skip ahead to the draft.

Amateur Draft

With my first pick I grab a pretty good LB. I see several good prospects at center that make me wish I had waited until the draft to fill my vacant position. In the second round I grab a WR by the name of Karl Thweat who should make a great third receiver for now and potentially a decent second one if I am forced to go that route in the future. My hope is that he can be as fast as a wascally wabbit and thus be a real downfield thweat. In the third I get one of the great center prospects I mentioned earlier. He has 100 as his pass blocking potential and high 90's for endurance. I pick up RB Toby Habib in the fourth to replce the departed Thomas Creamer. I grab a linebacker in the fifth with suspiciously high red lines with little grean in hopes that he will breakout. I get a pretty similar RB in the sixth. My seventh pick is a TE.

Preseaon

A free agent WR pickup has a pretty good camp to look like a decent fourth receiver and my fifth round linebacker suddenly shows 100 potential at pass rushing.

I'm not sure how this team compares to my teams of the last three years. I have quietly changed my secondary over the last few years to the point that Harvey will be the lone starter who started there before last year. Despite winning the last four of the last five Superbowls, my roster has actually been quite fluid with only 12 players remaining from my first Super Bowl winning team in 2025 and just 22 remaining from the first year of the three-peat. We run through the exhibition season 4-0 winning by an average of almost 15 points per game.

Regular Season

We start off the season against the Steelers in Richmond and we blow them out 30-3. Rookie Toby Habib gets 134 yards and a touchdown in his first regular season appearance to lead the offense.

Dallas comes into Richmond looking for their first win. They must look elsewhere as we blow them out of the water 45-18. Summers leads the way with 324 yards and two touchdowns though the air and 36 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Two other players come up with rushing touchdowns and the defense plays solid.

Washington come to Richmond this week as the schedules decide to give us all our home games at the beginning of the year again. We continue our string of dominant games this time winning 48-16. Summers leads the way again getting 342 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

We travel to Tennessee to face the 2-1 Titans in our first road game of the year. They edge us 34-31 to drop us to 3-1 after four weeks. My team plays well, but Tennessee scores a touchdown in the games final minute to steal this one away.

We travel to Arizona this week looking to break our string of two consecutive losses to the Cardinals. We do with a 28-13 win. My offense really plays poorly, but still manages to get the win.

The 0-4 Giants come into Richmond this week and we return to our dominant ways with a 38-6 victory as Summers gets 364 yards and three touchdowns.

I had been letting Habib start after his dominant performance in week one, but after five consecutive bad games from him I move him back down to third on my depth chart during my bye week.

Arizona comes to Richmond and we prove that last year was an aberration with a 20-10 victory to sweep the season series once again. Burnett responds to his promotion back to starter with a 94 yard, one touchdown game.

The Eagles come to Richmond this week. Philly comes in at 6-2, half a game behind us for first place. We defeat them 38-6 to move to 7-1 at the half way point in the season. Summers carries the offense yet again with a 256 yard, three passing and one rushing touchdown game. It seems to me that stud QB's are a little overbalanced in this game to the point where a great QB can really carry a team offensively almost single handedly. Perhaps this is the case in real life though, as evidenced by Donovan McNabb and the Eagles this year.

Portland comes to town at 3-5 on the year. My schedule seems to be one of the easiest of my career this year, but I am certainly not complaining! We deflate Portland 33-3 for the win. Burnett tuns wild with 72 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries and Summers throws for 244 yards and three touchdowns. As an aside, Holmberg missed only his ninth extra point in this game.

We travel to Dallas to face the 2-7 Cowboys. We win 33-21. The NFC East really seems to be week this year and I have to wonder if that has caused my inflated record. My running game produced three touchdowns in this game and Summers passed for just shy of 300 yards and one touchdown.

We travel to Washington to face the 2-8 Redskins in what looks to be the most lopsided game ever in this series. The 'skins play tough, but its not enough as we defeat them 31-21 behind Burnett's 106 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Summers fulfills his part of the bargain with a 255 yard, two touchdown day.

Green Bay comes to Richmond finally. At 6-5 they should be out toughest opponent in weeks. I barely win this one 24-23 on a late fourth quarter touchdown by Toby Habib. Summers passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns and even leads the team in rushing with 49 yards on seven carries.

Several of my top starters are nursing minor injuries and since I have a two game lead for home field advantage, I lower my willingness to play injured players to give some guys some deserved rest. Under these conditions, I travel to Philadelphia to play the second place Eagles. I still manage to win 17-7 to really prove my dominance. Resting several key players, on the road, against the second best team I still manage to win.

I travel to St. Louis to face the 9-4 Rams. I really want to get through the rest of the season quickly so I can have the week off to rest my players. To do that, I need to continue to win. I defeat the Rams 23-20, again with many key players resting due to injury.

At 13-1, I am now assured of at least a first round bye. I decide to take my chances on home field (I would have to lose my next two and New Orleans would have to win out for me to lose it) and set my willingness to play injured players to exhibition levels (1). I travel to Cincinnatti this week to face the 11-3 Bengals. I will be playing with probably about half my starters in this game. The Bengals take advantage with a 17-10 win. New Orleans loses as well so I am now guaranteed of home field throughout.

I travel to New York to face this Giants in the final week. The last three weeks of rest has really rejuvenated my team to the point I feel comfortable starting almost all my starters for the final game. We get back our winning ways with a dominating 27-3 victory to finish the season at 14-2.

Regular Season Recap

At 14-2 I am once again the class of the NFL and give myself great position to win my fourth straight Super Bowl. If we can pull it off, we will clearly establish ourselves as the best team in NFL history. The Colts managed three straight Super Bowls from 2017-2019 and two more in 2023-2024 for five out of seven. If we can get this one we will one-up them by winning five out six.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 312/502, 4178 yards, 30 TD, 12 int, 98.4 QB Rating

Levon has clearly established himself as the best quarterback in the NFL. Statistically he has been superb the last few years and has led his team to four Super Bowl wins in only his first seven seasons as a pro. He is already a lock for the HOF at the tender age of 30.

WR Marvin Kadletz - 69/118, 1089 yards, 15.7 avg, 5 TD, 7 drops
Kadletz put up pretty decent numbers as my second receiver. I expect touchdowns to outnumber drops though, especially with Summers throwing the ball.

WR Myron Keister - 67/113, 969 yards, 14.4, 11 TD, 7 drops
Keister had a great year as Summers' primary target even playing through various minor injuries.

FS RJ Harvey - 69 tackles, 7 int, 2 TD, 9 dfns, 50.1 PDQ
He just keeps putting up good year after good year even though with his age.

SS Otis Gael - 41 tackles, 7 int, 1 TD, 16 caught, 4 dfns, 54.2
Amazing year for the first year starter built from the same mold as Harvey. My only worry is that I let him languish on the bench too long and now he won't ever be happy in my system.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.1 / 4.1 / 3.8
Passing: 8.2 / 5.4 / 6.5

My rushing defense continues to worsen, but my passing offense has gotten to be pretty amazing over the last few years. I need to try to find a great run stopping DT as soon as possible though as my run defense is getting to critical levels.

Playoffs

Tampa Bay comes to Richmond this week as we begin our road to the Super Bowl. We defeat them 34-3 in our usual dominant fashion. Burnett has a huge game with 74 yards and three touchdowns. Summers completes 21 of 28 passes for 338 yards and even runs in a touchdown.

New Orleans comes to Richmond for the divisional championship game. We win it 24-10 to advance to our fourth straight Super Bowl. Summers plays great, but the defense really deserves credit for this one.

Our opponent for Super Bowl 2030 is the Miami Dolphins. Miami is lead by former Archetype running back Thomas Creamer. I questioned their judgement in signing him to such an expensive deal this past offseason, but clearly it must have worked at well for them. I doubt they will have as much luck against me though.

Miami strikes first blood with a 33-yard field early in the game. The teams exchange punts for most of the first quarter until we finally score on a six play, 44 yard drive to take the early lead 7-3. Miami gets the ball back and drives 80 yards in ten plays to retake the lead 10-7 early in the second quarter. I get the ball and drive 92 yards in seven plays for a score of my own half way through the second quarter to make it 14-10 A's in front. I force Miami to punt and I drive in again for a touchdown this time on a six play, 74 yard drive that gives me the lead 21-10 as time runs out in the first half. Miami starts off the second half with good field position and capitalizes with a 61 yard touchdown drive to make it 21-17. This game is looking to look like it could go down to the wire. I get the ball at my own 35 yard line and Summers throws a perfect 65 yard touchdown bomb to Karl Thweat on the first play of this possession to give me my fourth straight touchdown and make it 28-17. With their spirits beginning to break, Miami goes three and out and is forced to punt again. This time their defense holds and I punt it back. Miami can't buy a first down at this point and again must punt it away. We take advantage of the field position and get another touchdown, this time on a three play, 57 yard drive punctuated with a 42 touchdown bomb from Summers to Erik Vance to make it 35-17. Miami's offense never crosses into my territory and I tack on a 26 yard field goal to end the game at 38-17 for my FOURTH STRAIGHT SUPER BOWL. Summers finishes the game with 20 completions on 30 attempts, 382 yards passing, three touchdowns, and one interception. "Powers" Porras lead the defense with 2.5 sacks and Goel anchors the secondary with two defended passes and only two catches allowed.

Player Awards

Only player earns postseason hardware, but he earns enough for the whole team to share. Levon Summers truly has arrived at his destiny. I just hope he doesn't decide to retire early given that he has now accomplished everything football has to offer.

QB Levon Summers - NFL MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Pro Quarterback, Super Bowl MVP (the Quadruple Crown)

2031 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review

Beginning of Season and Free Agency

I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. I have no retirements to report.

My guard of the future, Terrance Winslett is an unrestricted free agent this year. Unfortunately he was demanding to be traded right up until his contract expired and I doubt he will even return my calls this offseason. He is however, my only UFA so I decide to franchise to keep him around another year while I search for a replacement. I might not keep him around, but it's a nice revenge for refusing to sign with me. I also notice my great up-and-coming safety refuses to renegotiate due to being happy despite the fact that he now has four rings in his first four years in the league and started every game last year with a PDQ of 54. Seems he should be thrilled. I wish players weren't permanently unhappy in FOF2k1, but I guess forgive and forget doesn't hold true in this game. I like the way you can "reassure" players in CM00/01 of their value to the team to increase their morale and if I could I would surely assure Goel he has a long future with my club.

I head into free agency this year with $35 million in cap room and 32 players under contract. I think I'll actually be able to afford to grab a good player this year. My needs appear to be at guard and safety which is frustrating cause I have been developing players for those positions for the last few years and now need to look outside my system for replacements. Bugs (at least I consider this a bug.. it might have been intentional) like this make me feel glad I ordered the full version of Championship Manager today. I can't wait to guide the Nagoya Grampus Eight to the top of the Japanese First League (I just think the name is cool). Luckily the top rated player (by my scout) in this year's free agent pool is a 27-year old guard by the name of Rex Corbett who played last year for the Cincinnati Bengals. I don't think he's as good as my guy, but he'll have to do I guess. I make him a four year, $44 million dollar offer. I notice in week two that my starting fullback for the last nine years has been offered a three year $16 million dollar contract by Minnesota and has several teams willing to give him $10 mil for two years. Pretty good deals for a guy who got barely over 500 rushing yards total in his nice years as a starter. He did catch 52 balls for 495 yards and four touchdowns in 2029 so he can play. Perhaps I never utilized him to his full potential and I call him to wish him good luck with whichever team he chooses to sign. Rex Corbett signs my offer in the third week. My 14 year veteran tackle, Stanley Beyer signs a two year $21 million deal with Cincinnati in week four as we essentially trade offensive lineman.. I think got the better end of this deal though. Marty Winslett, a fourth year running back who has never started a game in his career and didn't break 800 yards total in four years as a backup with the A's somehow fleeces Pittsburgh out of $49 million over four years. In week 11 I sign a second year OT to a long term deal and advance to the draft.

Amateur Draft

With the 36th pick in the draft I take Kenyon Lewis should develop into a great pass-blocking guard and fill a need at backup guard for next year. In the second round I get a pretty decent OT with potential to develop into a solid starter in a few years. I grab a kicker in the third round to replace my 41-year old kicker Wesley Holmberg who is the lone player left from my inaugural season. At the end of the fourth round I grab a backup QB. In the fifth round I take a pretty decent QB who fits the bust profile almost perfectly. I grab a FB in the sixth round. I get a pretty good center with the last pick in the draft.

Preseaon

The QB I took in the fifth round busts as expected, but a rookie free agent TE pickup now looks like he'll be all-world in a few years.

Honestly, I think this team has lost a lot and probably shouln't be that great this year. Austin Porras, Cory Matthews, and RJ Harvey, the real cornerstones of my defense for the last 10 years are now well into their 30's. I think we can still be competitive this year because of Summers, but I would not bet the farm on a fifth Super Bowl victory.

I think (and it seems rather intuitive) the cause for my roster's decline has been my terrible draft position over the last six years. In this challenge, drafting is so important because of the limitations on free agency. If you consider that each team has 22 starters (not counting kickers) and assume that each starter-caliber player will play at max only about 11 years then teams need to bring in at least two starter quality players per year. Free agency can really only be counted on for one starter per year maximum, but even at that rate soon becomes prohibitively expensive. So, it is crucial to acquire at least two quality long-term players in each draft. With this in mind I decided to look back at my last six first round choices just to see how they have developed.

2026 - WR Myron Keister-36th
Keister is pretty amazing for a 36th overall selection I think. His stats are almost maxed out and my scout rates him as the third best non-kicker on my squad. He has only had one season over 1000 yards though so he needs to improve his play to be considered a real star. He did catch 11 touchdowns last year so I think he's getting better.

2027 - CB Bryant Beuerlein-7th
I acquired the seventh pick in a trade (I'm sure the details can be found in the 2027 posting). Every good defense needs a shutdown cornerback. Beuerlein is that cornerback for my team. He has a PDQ of 30.2 over his first five years, but it has been improving almost every year.

2027 - FS Otis Goel-31st
When I selected Goel, he looked like a decent safety who would make a great backup during his rookie contract and then be allowed to pursue his fortune elsewhere. Somewhere along the line, however, he developed into a lower endurance version of the prototypical free safety! Sadly because he rode the pine his first four years behind two All-Pro safeties, he is not very happy right now. In his first year as a starter he record seven interceptions and a PDQ of 54.

2028 - TE Victor Baker-36th
Baker was all-universe in an otherwise weak draft. He caught 132 balls for 1461 and 11 touchdowns in his first two years in the league for back to back 1st Team honors. Last year he played in only in 11 games due to injury. His ratings dropped about 20 points across the board and he now looks like a good, but not great TE. If he can regain his pre-injury form I'll be thrilled, but as he is now he looks much more like a reach for the first round.

2029 - CB Mark Estevez-36th

My starting CB at the time was getting old and his rating were starting to drop rapidly. Estevez was the best CB on the bird and I think he has the potential to develop into a great man-to-man shut down corner to compliment the all-around skills of Beuerlein. Estevez started 11 games over the last two years and has a PDQ of 35.

2030 - LB Edwin Heller-36th

I don't like to take LB's in the first round, but in Heller's case he was the best player available as well as being in my biggest position of need. Heller started all 16 games last year because of my weak LB corps and he will definitely start again this year so he should develop quickly. Rather or not I keep him past his rookie contract really depends more on his price than anything else.

2031 - G Kenyon Lewis-36th
Kenyon Lewis was, believe it or not, the best player on the board at the time and also plays at a position in which I expect to be very needy in a few years. Unfortunately Lewis was hit with mild bustage across the board and now looks more like a good backup then a good starter. I really expect my guards to run block much better than Lewis ever will.

Overall, I think I did pretty well in the early years, but worse and worse each year after. I feel like a pulled a major coup in 2027 acquiring three future stars on defense in the three key positions. Do people like this kind of "analysis?" (is anyone actually reading this?!?) or is it just a waste of resources? Personally I think the best part of the game is evaluating players and deciding whom to acquire. So the coolest part of discussing the game, for me, is to see how other people evaluate players and what they look for in drafts, free agency, etc. I would like to look at more things like this, like perhaps a look at my most recent second round picks or a "where are they now special" on all the different running backs I've had over the years. I don't want to do it, though, if it turns anyone off from potentially reading this stuff. ...and now for something completely different... the games.

Regular Season

We go 2-2 in the preseason, including a 66-7 thrashing of Oakland.

Seattle comes to Richmond as we start our defense of the Super Bowl. We win big, 45-20. Several of my big time players suffer minor injures, with the worst being Cory Matthews and Rusty Clancy suffering 3-5 week and 3-5 month injuries, respectively. My latest running back, Hayes, gets two touchdowns on limited carries and Summers throws for 250 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game with minor injuries.

We travel to New York to face the 1-0 Giants. We win 30-24, but its really not as close as the final score would indicate as New York scores 21 of their points in the fourth after we take a 27-3 lead at the end of the third. Toby Habib is named man of the match after getting 150 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Summers plays injured has an off game, but still manages two touchdown passes. Unfortunately Summers will miss the next 3-5 weeks recuperating his broken finger.

Washington comes to town. Without Summers we manage only 10 points as we lose 17-10. Sammy Knight manages 270 yards passing, but can't find the endzone and throws two interceptions, one of which is returned for go ahead touchdown early in the second half.

Philly comes into Richmond at 2-1. We will play without Summers again, but it looks as if the rest if the team is near full strength. We get destroyed 31-17 to drop to 2-2. This time Knight throws for 280 yards and a touchdown, but throws four interceptions to literally throw the game away. More bad news as Ernie Sweeney will miss the rest of the season after having elbow ligament surgery. Several others will miss 3-5 weeks, but none as significant as Sweeney.

Not wanting to drop below 500, we want to rush Summers back for this one but decide its not worth the risk against a 1-3 non-divisional opponent. We manage to win this one 37-17 behind two touchdowns from Knight (without an interception). It looks like Summers could return as early as next week.

We travel to Washington this week to face the evil Redskins. I leave the decision rather or not to start Summers to the coaching staff. Summers starts and finishes this one leading the team to a 17-10 win. I am surprised how good it feels to actually be 4-2. Considering my injuries, I don't see how it could be any better.

We travel to St Louis this week. Sweeney assures me before the game he will return in time for the playoffs which would certainly be a huge and welcome boost. We needed him for this game as we lose 35-21 as my offense never really gets on track and my defense can't do enough to stop them despite scoring a touchdown for us.

Luckily I get my bye week this week. Hopefully Summers, et al will be at 100% for next weeks games. Several of my players will be back next week, but in our injury evaluations we find that starting guard Rusty Clancy may have suffered irreparable damage. He should be back this season, but we doubt that he will ever be the player he was before he dislocating his knee this year.

New York comes to town at 2-5. We really need to take advantage of their weakness if we are to put ourselves in good position for the playoffs this year. The team responds with a 34-3 victory over the hapless Giants. The rushing offense disappeared in this game, but as he so often has done, Summers put the team on his back and carried it four touchdowns and 280 yards. Keister is the primary beneficiary of Summers' charity with eight catches for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

We travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys, who also enter the game at 5-3. We prove out dominance with a 27-7 win. Habib gets 107 yards and a touchdown on the ground and Summers gets an extremely efficient 161 yards and two touchdowns. We really feel we are unbeatable when Summers plays the whole game. Even if he doesn't put up the best statistics every game, his leadership is immeasurable.]

We travel to Denver for our second consecutive tough road game. The broncos enter the game also at 6-3. This is the kind of match-up that makes good teams into great ones. Denver apparently is a great team… they win this one 27-24. Summers leaves the game early and Denver needs overtime to beat us, but a loss is a loss and we now have four of 'em.

Philadelphia leads the division at 7-3. We are 6-4. We travel to Philly this week. This is a big game. My boys always play big in big games and this is no exception as we win big 38-13 to move into a tie for first place. Habib and Hayes each run for 76 yards and two touchdowns and Summers gets a touchdown of his won through the air as we dominate this game in the trenches.

We travel to Arizona to face the 6-5 in yet another big game. We come up big again with a 17-6 defense oriented win holding them to just 38 yards on 29 carries.

Dallas comes to Richmond this week. At 7-5 the Cowboys are just a game behind us for first. Someone must have left the gate open over at the big game preserve as we keep seeing more and more each week. We get this one 21-6. Summers played decent in this game to set up three rushing touchdowns. Unfortunately starting CB Estevez will miss the rest of the regular season after aggravating a hip pointer he was trying to play through.

We travel to Greensboro this week. The Pond Ducks are 9-4 on the year so this will be another huge game for the good guys. We blank them 36-0 to move to 10-4. I think this schedule has been my toughest by far and I'm really proud of how my team has played through it considering the injuries we suffered early and often. Summers threw for 290 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game early.

New Orleans comes to Richmond this week. The Saints, of course, are 10-4 and tied with us for second place in the NFC behind the Rams (who we also had to play this year!!). I really can't believe this year's schedule. The A's really amaze me with a 51-13 domination of Saints. My offense played pretty well, but defense made big play after big play. Beuerlein and Matthews share player of the game honors. Beuerlein pulled in three interceptions, returning two for touchdowns. Matthews record 3.5 sacks, 1 pass blocked and 1 hurry. Its hard to tell if Matthew's outstanding pressure set up Beuerlein's interceptions or if Beuerlein's superb pass coverage gave Matthews time to get into the backfield to make plays. All I know is this team is much better than I imagined.

Arizona comes to town this week at 8-7. Arizona still has a shot at the playoffs and desperately needs this win to make their case. Finally an "easy" game…. We win this one 31-28 behind Keister's 10 catches for 138 yards and one touchdown to finish the season at 12-4 to gain a much needed first round bye.

Regular Season Recap

I finished the year 12-4 and I believe my statistics will show decreases across the board, but I'm extremely pleased with my team's effort. My schedule was impossible and I played many, many games without three or four starters, but we managed to finish strong to make the playoffs and get the precious week off. St Louis finished 13-3 this year (including a victory over us in week seven) to lead the NFL, but quite honestly I don't see many impact players on their roster. Their defensive line is weak and they have no quality cornerbacks, so I feel I should have the advantage in a rematch assuming Summers and Sweeney and company are healthy this time around.

Key Stats

QB Leven Summers - 245/410, 2785 yards, 20 TD, 6 int, 90.3 QB Rating

Levon missed or played injured for most of the first half of the season which explains why his numbers are so low. His replacement through seven interceptions in about a third as many attempts which explains our early season losses.

RB Tony Habib - 234 carries, 1058 yards, 4.5 avg., 10 TD, 8 fumbles
He's really just the best of a bad bunch. I've already demonstrated that any RB can run behind a decent offensive line. The fumbles are really inexcusable and are the real reason I usually value carrying greatly when looking at RB's.

WR Myron Keister - 90/170, 1383 yards, 15.3, 8 TD, 13 drops
This looks to be a real breakout year for Keister although I am disappointed in the extremely high amount of drops for a primary receiver..

DE Cory Matthews - 48 tackles, 14.5 sacks, 4 blks, 7 hurries
DE Austin Porras - 22 tackles, 11.5 sacks, 2 blks, 7 hurries

My only regret is I never thought of a cool tag-team nick name for the duo.

CB Bryant Beuerlein - 38 tackles, 7 int, 3 TD, 24 cght, 7 dfns, 49.1 PDQ
Beuerlein really had a great year statistically for a cornerback. Look for him on the 1st team this year.

SS Otis Gael - 67 tackles, 6 int, 0 TD, 28 caught, 3 dfns, 38.1
His pass coverage stats dropped across the board, but he led the team in tackles from the safety position which I think is worth mentioning.

Team Statistics
Rushing: 4.1 / 3.6 / 3.9
Passing: 6.7 / 6.4 / 6.5

My offense really misfired this season. I think most of that can be attributed to Summers' injuries this year. The pass defense weakened this year which I think can be attributed to aging defensive ends, a superstar defensive tackle spending the whole season on IR, my veteran FS getting old and missing 30% of the season, and my second best CB missing almost half the year.

Playoffs

We get Tampa for our first game of the playoffs for the second straight year. The Bucs finished the regular season at 11-5 and should be tough as usual. Or not… we defeat them 38-13 even though I forgot to put some of my key starters back onto the active list. Once again Summers carries the team completing 24 of 32 passes for 349 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.

We travel to St Louis for this year's NFC championship game. Sweeney makes good on his promise to come back, but he's not healthy. Still we'd rather have a 75% Sweeney than a 100% of most anyone else. This is a big game and as I said before my team plays its biggest in big games. We prove it once again with a 37-3 blowout over the team that was supposedly the NFL's best. Summers plays lights out once again, this time completing 23 of 32 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Otis Goel comes up huge with three interceptions out of a team total of six. They scores a field goal on the opening possession of the game, and then they finished the game with six interceptions, five punts, and absolutely nothing else. My defense truly dominated this game.

My Super Bowl opponent this year is once again Indianapolis. Indianapolis once won five Super Bowls in a span of seven years. We are looking to break that mark this year with our sixth in seven years. Who better to defend that mark than the team that set it. This Colts team is led by super running back, Travis Dunaway, who carried the ball 366 times for 1728 yards and 12 touchdowns this year, running behind an outstanding offensive line. The Colts also look to dominate the line scrimmage on defense as well as they have an outstanding defensive line as well. They are also led by a really good and WR combination capable of putting up big numbers if needed. This really looks to be the closest Super Bowl in years and we actually enter the game as only three point favorites, but only because we'll be hosting the game this year. If played at a neutral location this game would be impossible to handicap its so close.

Indianapolis comes out more prepared for this one and strikes quickly to make it 7-0. We get the ball and drive deep into their territory before being pushed back and forced to punt. We hold Indy and again move the ball well before being stopped in their territory. They turn the ball over, but Summers throws an interception on the next play to give the ball right back. We trade possessions for a while before Indy scores another touchdown late in the first half to make it 14-0. This time we come out strong and score a touchdown of own with just two minutes left in the half to make it 14-7. We forced Indy to punt out of their own endzone and get the back with excellent position and 30 second left. Summers makes two huge plays to get us to their six with 12 seconds left and we get a field goal to close the half. At 14-10, this game is looking to be just as good as advertised. Indy gets the ball to start the second half, but can't do anything against my suddenly tough defense. We move it out to midfield before being forced to punt. The Colts can't buy a first down at this point and punt it back to give us marvelous starting position on this possession. We move deep into their territory before giving the ball back on a turnover. My defense has risen to the occasion and shows it with another stop. This time the offense makes good use of its field position as Summers completes a ten yard pass to Keister for the go-ahead touchdown with a little less than five minutes left in the third. Indy gets the ball back and gets a huge touchdown pass on a third and one to make it 21-17 just like that. We score a quick touchdown as well to make it 24-21 as this one really starts to heat up. We force a turnover deep in Indy territory and score another touchdown to make it 31-21 with less than 14 minutes left in the game. Indy is forced to punt and Summers completes a 20 yard pass on the first play to move us deep into Colt territory. Indy forces a third and short, but we convert and then quickly score another touchdown to make it 38-21 with just under 10 minutes left. Indianapolis really looks tired and discouraged and this one is beginning to look like a blow out. Indy regains some lost momentum with a quick 80 yard touchdown drive to make it 38-28 with six and a half minutes to go. We move the ball out to midfield before being forced to punt. Indy gets a great return all the way to midfield and looks to be in business once again. Time is their enemy and so is my secondary as they get another interception to almost certainly put this one away with just over two minutes to go. I move the ball into their territory but let the clock run down for a 38-28 hard fought VICTORY IN SUPER BOWL 2031!!

Levon Summers was amazing in this game. He completed 28 of 40 passes for 497 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. I don't know if there is some hidden rating that determines rather or not a player will choke or amaze in big game situations, but Summers sure seems to play above his head whenever the stakes are highest. Keister and Kadetz both have huge games as well (somebody has to catch all those passes!). Keister caught 11 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown without a drop and Kadetz caught five balls for 155 yards and a touchdown also without any drops. Indianapolis really played a great game and would have easily defeated lesser teams, but I think when Summers plays like he did today he is unbeatable.
