What are your favorite RSS feeds?

Since I downloaded Thunderbird, I have been pumped up seeking more RSS feeds. iTunes limited me to only podcasts and Firefox was limited to Live Bookmarks. I tried using an desktop RSS reader, but found that I was going to a number of applications just to get a fix. But since downloading Thunderbird, I can view all my podcasts, blog updates, news groups and news feeds all in one place. Freaking awesome.

Okay, now back to my main point. I am hoping to discover some RSS feeds out there that I can add to my collection. So I am going to share my RSS feeds in hopes that I will learn of a number of new ones from you. So what's in your collection? Here's mine:

Gamer's Daily (Podcast, Blog)
Website: http://www.gamersdaily.tv
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/gamersdaily

This was brought to my attention from an FOFCer(Mizzou B-ball fan). Because of this, I was able to use this as another resource for games to add to both my freeware and shareware list. The show features a group of guys doling out the latest gaming news and reviews. I don't know the ages of the hosts, but it seems that they range from high school to college age. But don't let that discourage you, they are very knowledable about the current state of gaming and they cover a number of platforms. Great stuff.

2 Minute Photoshop Tricks (Podcast, tutorials)
Website: http://tricks.onigo.net/
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/2MinutePhotoshopTricks

Well as the title indicates, this is a Photoshop show. Although some of the tricks are ones you see covered in every Photoshop tutorial, once in a while he will give you a trick that is much more realistic than the ones you usually see.

Tips from the Top Floor (Podcast, tutorials)
Website: http://www.tipsfromthetopfloor.com/
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/tftf

This is currently a show that both me and the wife listen too. This is a show that cover digital photography and he includes some tutorials on the site (but mainly for post processing). His show is so good that you sometimes can't believe it is a free broadcast.

Media Artist Secrets (Podcast)
Website: http://www.fmstudio.com/index.htm
Feed: http://www.fmstudio.com/podcasts/rss2.xml

If you are a creative person that have always wanted to start your own creative profession, this is the show to listen to. This guys gives you a number of great tips and things to watch out for in regards to taking a hobby into a profession and he has plenty of experience to prove it.

Smart Guys Sports/In the Bleachers (Podcast, Blog)
Websites:
http://www.smart-guys-sports.com/?cat=20
http://inthebleachers.blogspot.com/
Feeds:
http://www.smart-guys-sports.com/?feed=rss2
http://inthebleachers.blogspot.com/atom.xml

I combined these two, although they are two different feed, because they work with one another. This is your opportunity to read and hear fellow FOFCers talk about sports. It is always a very good read and although they seem new to podcasting, it is getting better with each show. You gotta include this.

Creative Planet's Digital Production Buzz (Podcast)

Website: http://www.digitalproductionbuzz.com/
Feed: http://www.digitalproductionbuzz.com/archives.xml

This is where I hear about the latest developments in multimedia technology. From web development to video production, they cover the software, individuals and companies that are making the most buzz. Very entertaining and educational listen.

Wired News: Top Stories (News)
Website: http://www.wired.com/
Feed: http://www.wired.com/rss//index.xml

Of course, this is the pioneer of high tech news. They usually have a number of article I like to read, especially in the technology realm.

I Should Be Writing (Podcast)

Website: http://shouldwrite.blogspot.com/
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/IShouldBeWriting

This is really for all those unpublished writers. This show features a woman who writes non-fiction for a living, but she dreams of selling her first fiction novel. She discusses tips for writing and has a number of interviews with published fiction authors. Interesting to listen to and actually can help motivate you to push on with your own writing projects.

I pointed my soccer news source in a thread I started recently:
http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...ad.php?t=46586

Mainly it's the BBC website for news about the EPL and the team I support, Luton Town in the Championship.

Nothing fancy other than that except a few of the Yahoo! UK football news page...

I'll keep a tab on this thread though as I'm sure there are interesting feeds we don't know about.

Feed: http://www.ootpbaseball2006.com/xml_manager/news.xml

Okay Frogman, what are you trying to do. First you get me addicted to FM, and now you want me to actually follow it IRL. What are you trying to do to me. Stop trying to corrupt me with your seeds of madness.

LOL! Thing is, I never really followed it closely until my digital TV provider added the feed to Fox Sports World Canada (basically Fox Soccer Channel with some tiny difference) last November. But then, it was still football season here, our football I mean. Now comes January and I start paying a bit more attention to teams, recording the EPL review show every Sunday night and such and then boom! found the RSS feed from bbc.co.uk

So this is how it starts. At the end of football season, I find myself wishing football had a system similar to soccer. I now find myself wishing that the Chargers get promoted to a higher division and that they enough pounds to retain Drew Brees. They could then put Philip Rivers on loan to a lower division team so that he could get more playing time. I should not be thinking this way and this is where I blame you and Pumpy.

No, really. I do not read columnists on a regular basis and I have no subject matter(s) that consumes my passion (as in a team that I am fanatical about). The subject matter of my job and my long-time career is more diverse than focused (spatial technologies). And my personal interests in sports cards, games and history extend to many, many subject matters. Therefore, I am not a good candidate for feeds and blogs.

Besides, I very much prefer two-way communications. I know there are comment sections for blogs and feeds, but it not like a public forum (which I find perfect for online interaction). Would it makes sense for a community like FOFC (which has somewhat of common interests) to be dominated by one or a few posters and the rest of just make piddling comments? No offense to the many bloggers out there, but I don't think very many cares about what you write. For those that are worthy of feeds (because of expertise), I prefer a more democratic and holistic approach to news and information.

hehe, I was simply playing on the fact that you're the curmudgeon of service

In fact you and I are a bit similar in that I use the couple RSS feeds that I use to replace my local hard-copy newspaper in many aspect since most of the things I care about are not really covered in it. I'm talking about simple things like the NFL here and more pointy things like English soccer...

I too don't care much about blogs and such...

Interesting post and I must admit you have a unique view on things, but there are a number of feeds that are either educational, informative, and/or entertaining. I use them as a starting point to learn about things I knew nothing about. Sure, they are a filtered view of what one believes, but you can always branch out to other resources to learn more. Besides if you are an avid reader of history, you have already exposed yourself to a filtered view of the world based on an individual's viewpoint.

With that said, you must have a number of sources that you go to for your news. Just spill it, if you wish to. I may have an interest in one of your many diverse subjects and actually find a feed to it. You will be surprised how many hard copy newspapers and magizines have RSS feeds.

I just got an iPOD for Christmas and haven't found too many I like yet. Other than Tiki Bar (video podcast) that I think is pretty funny and has some excellent scenery in it.

Isn't that what FOFC is for?

I do fully understand and support your comment about the filtered view through the many historical books I read. That has and always will be the medium of choice due to the comfort level. I purposely choose a lifestyle, here at home and at work, to where I am not constantly connected. I do not carry a cell phone or a pager or any other forms of instant communications. It has, for the most part, focused my priorities on more thought-out forms of communicating as well as not living in the immediate. For example, I do read the hard-copy and online version of our local newspaper but only at my leisure. There have been nothing that I have read, in that coverage or in any other news sites, that could not have waited. Why the urgency to have to know right now (unless it directly pertains to business and personal decision making)?

No....not really offensive, just confusing. I guess I tend to share information too freely. The thread was for people to share their feeds. I didn't know it was going to become a speech about the degenerative nature of blogs. If you're not into that type of thing, that's fine, but why post in a thread you care nothing about.

An RSS feed can update you with data from news sites, blogs and podcasts. A newsgroup is just a bunch of stored text messages. With RSS feeds, they link you to the html pages and mp3 files (in regards to podcasts) to view and listen to at your pleasure. Newsgroups are limited to text only.
