Another RPG for you to add if you're interested:
http://www.u5lazarus.com/ Basically a remake of Ultima 5 with graphics based on DungeonSiege engine and new music. I haven't tried it out, but I heard it was pretty fun although a little buggy. |

Figured this would be a good place to ask...
Anyone know of a decent free program to make simple maps, like city maps with highway/road designations and various building representation options? I can find various ones to buy, most of them fairly expensive, but the only free option I can find is called CADE. It's decent but not exactly what I'm looking for. Didn't see this on the page, but not sure if its truely freeware as its based off of and needs some files from a commercial game (although they are easily available online through links in the sites forums.)
But OpenTTD has grabbed some of my time lately. Its an open source version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe. I could never really get into the game when it first came out but have really started to get addicted to it this time through. Theres also a link to TTDPatch which is another version/branch that has some pretty neat new features. |

Came across some software recently after reading your post since this sounded interesting. The only thing I came up with is some shareware that costs a little of $45. It called Campaign Cartographer Pro and it is on the shareware page. Last edited by Antmeister : 01-19-2006 at 01:43 PM. |

Thanks Ant. Since it's not a major need (just looking for something fairly simple), I probably won't pay for anything. But if you happen to come across some freeware, let me know. I appreciate it. |

I gave a speech about how to protect your home computer from viruses. The theme was how to do it for free and I used AVG Anti-Virus as an example. It was easy to come up with a free firewall and free spyware programs, but good anti-virus software that you could use for free was drawing a blank in my mind. Thankfully I remembered Antmeister's free utilities page and it hooked me up with just the help I needed.
Thanks! |

I love the free safety "cocktail" of Zone Alarm, AVG, Spybot, Adaware, and CCleaner. It's free and works great

I've been running Avast! (as in "Avast, me hardies!) the free version of an anti-virus software program since October. Excellent. It found and removed a few nasties that Norton hadn't dealt with, and its kept my computer clean as a whistle ever since.

16 new links.....online bookmarking service, easy to use blogging software, finance applications and more. I would also like to thank OldGiants for his recommendation of Avast! I had 1 trojan on my computer that was discovered with this software and Dodgerchick's computer had about 26 viruses. AVG didn't detect any of these.
Thanks again. |

I tried looking on the list but did not find anything that would play Real Media files. Does anyone know of another software that would? The overloaded, overburdened bloatware that answers to RealMedia Player gets on my nerve.

This supposedly does, but I haven't had a chance to look around to see what others have said about it and I haven't checked it out myself, but you can try it.

Some new stuff I've found:
30 Gigabyte e-mail: didn't registered one yet, and I don't know if they're OK about security/privacy, but 30 Gigs... Anyway, they accept public registrations until 3/31. Then, for the iPod freaks (like me ): -iTunes Art Importer: automatically imports album covers into your iTunes collection -iArt: same as the first one, but also imports lyrics. You can import 25 albums or use the program for 15 days, whichever comes first. Then, you have to register for 10$. So yeah, ALMOST a freeware... |

You still have a valid point. Many of my categories need to be looked at again, because there are a number of applications that can fall under two or more categories. In the future, I plan on creating a database for these applications so that I can have them fall under as many categories that they apply too. So there is no need to be sorry. And thanks for the compliment.

With Hamachi you can organize two or more computers with an Internet connection into their own virtual network for direct secure communication. Awesome little utility that we've been using to create our own LAN over internet connections for gaming.
