FOF: Welcome To The Jungle - Pittsburg State University Gorillas: Year 1
Pittsburg State Names New Coach
Pittsburg, KS (AP) - Pittsburg State has called a news conference for 11 a.m. this morning to announce its decision on who will be the school's new head football coach. The decision comes after Chuck Broyles announced his intentions to retire immediately as head coach. The move surprised many people since Broyles is relatively young and holds the all-time record for coaching wins in the MIAA. On behalf of myself (Dean Bryant) and the facualty and staff of PSU, we would like to announce that Justin Shipman has accepted the position of head football coach for the Gorillas. Shipman graduated from Pittsburg State University, a Division II college, in December 2000. For the last two years, he has worked with the Pitt State football program as a regional scout. "I very happy with the Dean's decision to hire me. It has long been a dream of mine to one day be a college football coach. I wish the best of luck to Coach Broyles in his retirement and hope we can build on the success he has enjoyed here at Pitt State. Our first order of business is going to be for me and the coaching staff to evaluate our roster and go out and try to recruit some high school kids that can help us build our academic reputation for the long-term road ahead." 2004 Pittsburg State University Roster Code:

RECRUITING AND BOWL WRAP-UP
RECRUITING
Our recruiting class doesn't look very good on paper (especially since it ranks last in the nation) but I think we got a few guys that could become pretty good players. Everyone of our recruits has over a 3.35 GPA and at least a 1300 on their test with the exception of ILB Marvin Pearsall. TCY TODAY RECRUITING RANKINGS (Top Five Overall, and all MIAA teams included)
BOWL RECAP
No bowl bid this year, thanks to the loss to Central Missouri in the 2nd to last game of the season. They ended up playing in the New Orleans Bowl and manhandled North Texas, 45-2. With the recruiting class they got and QB Clifton Bush returning for his senior season, that should develop into a big rivalry. |
