Yeah! Can't wait to see what my always rebuilding Marlins can do this year. I'm even thinking about subscribing to MLB.tv to watch condensed games the morning after the games, as they are played too late for me to watch live in european time and also prefer to not to expend 3 hours watching full games with ads etc.

It doesn't feel like baseball has started until we get Opening DAY instead of the manufactured Sunday Night Baseball matchup.

I agree.

Actually, if I were a parent, I'd probably hate Opening "Day" Sunday Night baseball because I want my kids to be a part of my Boston-loving tradition, but living on the east coast, the game starts fairly late for a kid to stay up for. I know they're trying to appeal to all coasts, but it kind of drives me nuts, especially on a weekend (and let's face it, my bedtime's fairly early, too, so I'll almost undoubtedly miss the last half of the game).

Oh well. Still looking forward to my beloved Sox taking the field.

GO SOX!

The fact that the baseball season doesn't start in Cincinnati *with a parade* is a crime against humanity.

I find it odd that the opening game isn't even on ESPN's flagship station.

Gotta keep the NCAA happy if they decide to dump CBS for the tourney.

And good first inning for the Sox.

I heard on local radio that another reason it's on ESPN 2 is so ESPN doesn't give up one of their games that they're allowed to show without being blacked out in certain markets. With it on ESPN2, YES and Boston (sorry, don't remember the station) can show the game in those markets.

I do agree with sentiment that "Opening Day" should be during the day. "Opening Night" just doesn't sound so good. On the other hand, I'm just glad baseball is back and, even though I'm a Yankees fan, I would watch it whatever teams were involved.

Geez first game and the Sox look like shit. I can see if teams are able to score 4 runs against this lineup game over. They have the offense of the 1979 Astros for christsake.

are you watching what someone on SoSH just called "this third trimester abortion of a game?" As Galaril said - this team has the offense of the 1979 Astros...they have 1 hit off the tubby POS through 4 innings. It's going to be a long year.

i'm just enjoying my usual early-season hysterical swings from "OMG WE'RE HORRIBLE" to "OMG WE'RE AWESOME."

It'll settle down eventually into "meh...we're decent."

Can we please replace Morgan with Hershiser?

I mean, Miller humors Morgan and plays the lovable goof and defers to Morgan's "expertise" and feigns interest well. But, well, Joe Morgan is Joe Morgan.

Hey...they looked abysmal over the first 4+ innings...on both sides of the ball. And it's been a long offseason without baseball...I'm allowed to be hysterical both ways for a couple weeks.

I fucking hate Aerosmith. The Red Sox putting Steven Tyler out there to sing "God Bless America" in the seventh inning is almost enough to make me root for the Yankees tonight. Almost.

If he's a serious innings eater for the Yanks this year, I like our chances.

Sox retake the lead on a wild pitch then a passed ball.

(then again, if Papi starts like last year, that was the ONLY way he was going to score!)
