I went back to look at how many Sunset Series have gone the distance. SUNSET SERIES 1 (BEST OF 7), 2, 3, 13, 16, 18.
The first one was (accidentally) a best-of-seven and that went the distance, but in the best-of-9 game format, we've seen the series go all the way five previous times. The only sweep came in the '43 Sunset Series XI (Memphis over Phoenix) Anyway, will the curse of the 3-peat be broken this year? Carolina's win would give that franchise 3 overall titles, tying them with Winnemucca, Chicago and Memphis for most in the league history. Winnemucca's win would give them more than any other club. Not too shabby since the Choos are an expansion team that joined SLOP 12 years after all of the other clubs on that list. |
