There's a new file up for your post-trade nerds. Don't download this file if you've exported, because I didn't download exports from anyone other than Las Vegas per his request. (Yes, not even my own export. Heh.)

Billy reminded me that with the switch to guaranteed contracts, the rules allow teams new ownership a full season of contract amnesty on anyone. Since he joined with the season already underway, he'll get all of next year to amnesty anyone who was signed before he took over to release said guys without penalty.

Riight. If trade rapes = actually competing a fair trade, then yes. If it's trade offers rejected? Well then you know....you're the NL Manager of the Year at that too!

For the new people, it's all in good fun. I wouldn't even put smileys on these posts (because it's Doc) if I didn't want you all to know we're just messing around.

Maybe someday, Gomer will make it back to the Sunset Series and we can have the rubber match since we're 1-1. I mean, I did hold up my end of the bargain last year, but when I look at the program, Gettysburg was nowhere to be found.

To make it easier this year for his team to find us, I printed directions.

So with a month to go, it looks like we're in the range of having '68 be the 2nd-ever Conditional Playoff Rule (CPR) year. For the new guys, what that means is..in years where a division champion has a record that places them 4th or 5th in their league, we expand the playoffs to 10 teams (5 per league) (since OOTP won't let me confine it to one league and preserve the top-seed bye) rather than the normal 6 teams (3 per league).

Right now, Memphis leads the AL East by a game over Cleveland, but that still puts them 5th in the AL behind Winnemucca, St. Louis, Las Vegas and Rio Grande. Rio Grande's last playoff appearance came seven years ago when they were still in the NL.

We play with a balanced schedule, so that's why we know everyone plays the same schedule.

So Gettysburg has clinched the NL East for the 2nd time in 3 years. Columbus has a magic number of 4, Brooklyn leads Denver and Los Angeles by 3 games for the NL Wild Card though AL East leading Memphis still sits 5th in the AL overall standings.

In that scenario, there will be no debate in the NL, Gettysburg, Columbus, Brooklyn, Los Angeles and Denver will all qualify in a 5-team situation over there. The AL is murkier, as you have seven teams playing for 5 spots, in a CPR situation.

Ok, so...Denver has an outside shot at 3rd in the NL with the last 3-4 games to go.

The AL is where the action is.

St. Louis is taking on Memphis in their last 3 games. Memphis has one more against Cleveland before flying home to play the Flyboys.

Winnemucca is going to Rio Grande for a four-game set to end the year, Chicago has one at New York and 3 at Cuyahoga, but they'd need to sweep and get some help to make the post-season.

The long story short is, it's really muddled in the AL and there's no certainty to really who will make the post-season other than probably Winnemucca who have clinched a tie for the AL West title, meaning their one-year post-season hiatus has ended.

Columbus clinched the NL West for the 2nd straight year. Brooklyn sits two games ahead of Denver for the NL Wild Card.

In the AL, Winnemucca holds a 3 game lead over St. Louis, Rio Grande and Las Vegas for that division title. Memphis is up 2 games on Chicago in the AL East. So for right now, we're still in CPR territory.

Let's get ready for the insane finish.

So Denver now just sits one game back of Brooklyn with 2 games to go for the NL Wild Card. Memphis (86-74) losing means that we're still in CPR territory since Rio Grande (87-73) currently sits in 3rd place in the AL overall standings.

So for certain, it will be a CPR year. Memphis dropped 2 of 3 and other teams ahead of them also won games to ensure that the 3rd place team in the AL West will have a better record than whoever wins the AL East.

So in the NL, we have 1) Gettysburg with the bye. 2) Columbus will take on 5) Los Angeles in the NL Quarterfinals and 3) Denver/Brooklyn will duke it out in the other league quarter-finals series.

In the AL, we don't know who the top seed will be. We don't know who will win the AL East. This is hilariously epic and we might need to schedule tiebreakers.

Here are the scenarios:

AL East: Memphis loses, Chicago wins = Tiebreaker for AL East title. Memphis wins, AL East title.

AL West: Winnemucca wins = AL West title. Rio Grande beats Winnemucca = tie-breaker for AL West title (because the winner would be the AL top seed). If both Rio Grande and St. Louis win (meaning Winnemucca loses) then we'll have a different tiebreaker scenario.

Vegas is going to make the playoffs no matter what.

Chicago or Memphis are the two teams on the bubble right now.

Chicago 9, Cuyahoga 3
St. Louis 8, Memphis 4

So the AL East IS tied and there WILL be a tiebreaker for the AL East crown AND ultimately, the 5th and final playoff spot in the AL.

Winnemucca clinches the AL West on the last day and with it, the top seed in the AL because Rio Grande choked and saved us from the most awesome day of tiebreakers ever.

The bigger choke job was probably Cleveland. Memphis was six games back on August 1st and managed to force a tiebreaker. Cleveland wasn't even in the conversation by the time this all came together.

What a great regular season, though? Prepping the file now. After it's up, I'll get the regular season financials done and we can finalize what the playoff pool is gonna look like.

I added "Merchandise" to the financials sheet. Some teams will increase ticket prices to try to maximize revenue, but it ends up degrading their attendance numbers. So for merch, I just used the attendance numbers as a straight $1 for $1 so the teams that don't cook the books, will get an extra $1-2m whereas the teams that do try to squeeze gate revenue won't get as much merch. That extra $1-2m can help balance a budget and why not.

I love that Winnemucca takes a 1 year playoff hiatus, comes back a year later, gets the top seed and oh, they have the 2nd pick in the draft (since the draft is a year behind the season we sim.) because they nabbed it in the lottery. That damn team.

Spending was down some. Playoff pool for this year is $66,936,870 which is slightly less than last year's total. With the expanded playoffs, there will be less money to the champ this year.

Quote:
CPR YEAR PLAYOFF POOL $66,936,870
SUNSET SERIES WINNER $27,778,801
SUNSET SERIES LOSER $13,989,806
