Computer Crashes redux

I've started having spontaneous blue screens of death. My system is only a few months old, and has been working perfectly up until now, so I'm curious what's causing it. I don't recall any specific changes I've made to the system before this started happening, though it's certainly possible I made some small software installation.

The crash typically happens when I'm either running DDS:PB basketball game, playing a video or opening a picture file. It goes to the blue screen and reports a problem with stdriver64.sys, which I can't find much of anything on. I've gone back a few restore points (I'm on Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit), that hasn't helped. Tried doing a config scan. Antivirus scan. Updated Windows and all. Any ideas?

All I could find is that stdriver64.sys has something to do with your audio drivers?

Have you tried to update those?

OH ... that's a good lead. Just a little while ago I needed to be able to record audio off of a Web stream for a client. So I had to install the sound recorder driver for Windows, which isn't activated by default. That would be about the right timing to have started causing this, and makes sense with the video and the audio of the game. Hmm. Thanks guys I'll see what i can do there.

Thanks guys, that did the trick, I think. All I needed was that sound driver clue and I remembered what I had done. I went back and disabled the sound recorder driver in Windows. It's super lame that you have to do that, but I guess they've disabled it so that people won't record copyrighted audio. OH well, at least I can turn it on and off when I need it.
