80-90's Trilogy Vote
You can only keep one trilogy. None get remade, only the original trilogy survives. Which do you keep from this general era I decided?

My vote is for the Alien trilogy. It wasn't my favorite at the time, but I've gone back and rewatched it many times since then, so it stands the test of time for me more than the other series.

My vote is for Aliens also.
Aliens 2 was the best with the space marines and their auto-movement (?) machine gun and the aliens on the "roof" was a great scene. |

Close between Alien and Indiana Jones... but the overall crappiness of Temple of Doom finishes that off, though it would be hard not seeing Last Crusade ever again.

I probably would have chosen Aliens if I could have traded Alien 3 for Alien 4. But since not, had to go with Dr. Jones.

Indy for me. The first one I saw as a kid was Temple of Doom and I probably watched it hundreds of times. I remember realizing others hated it maybe 15 years ago and being so shocked. I still love it but I've always wondered if I would've felt differently if I saw it when I was older first, especially as a follow up to Raiders.
Never seen any of the Alien movies. |

Indiana Jones with Back to the Future being a close second.

I'll throw my pick in for John McClane. Loved the Die Hard franchise when I was a young lad.

It was a process of elimination for me.
1. I love Die Hard but my favorite is Die Hard 4. 2. Raiders is my all-time #1 favorite movie. Temple of Doom may be the worst big movie I had ever seen (saw both opening weekends). 3. Have not nor will I have any interest in the Aliens movies. So that leaves BttF, which a good choice. |

Went with Back to the Future since that's the trilogy I could watch from beginning to end without issue. The other 3 have a movie I think is absolute garbage.

Opposite. BttF first, Indy a very close second.

I'm going to be in the minority here, but Die Hard 1 & 3 are so great that I'm going with that trilogy. Die Hard 2 is fine, even better if it's snowing outside.

I actually liked Die Hard in an Airport more than Die Hard in a Building or Die Hard with Samuel L Jackson. (That's exactly how my family remembers them ) It didn't make much sense, but it was fun. |

I think I can legitimately say I've seen each of the Indiana Jones more often than the other 9 movies combined.

Easily Die Hard. 2 wasn't good but the other two could be the two best movies up there.

If Rian Johnson remade any of the previous trilogies which would you most be offended by?

Temple of Doom was bad enough to push that series below the Die Hards for me. Despite Raiders being a movie that I absolutely loved at the time.
Aliens was awfully good. Less enthused about the other two. You can keep BTTF2 and 3. |

Ranking all of the films and scoring each series based on the rankings, here's what I come up with:
1st Place: Alien (23 points) 2nd Place: Back to the Future (20 points) 3rd Place: Indiana Jones (19 points) 4th Place: Die Hard (16 points) My top four: 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Alien 3. Aliens 4. Die Hard All four of those movies may be in my top 10 all-time though. Giving up any of them is rough. |

I think I was a bit young at the time to really appreciate Indiana Jones. Seen them all a few times, but they didn't hit me at that most impressionable age.
If I was stuck inside all weekend and each trilogy was on at the same time, I'd be most likely to watch either Aliens or Die Hard, so it's a toss up between those two, depending on my mood.

Glad to see another Aliens 2 fan here. I think my problem with Raiders and Die Hard is they didn't age well for me. Whenever I catch bits and pieces channel surfing, the acting (looking at you Bruce) and special effects seem "hokey" but Aliens holds up well. |

Aliens is perhaps the greatest sequel of all time. In my book the only other sequel to come close is Terminator 2.

Agreed. Both had great first movies that were somehow surpassed by the sequel. But are you forgetting Empire Strikes Back? Last edited by Kodos : 06-27-2018 at 08:08 AM. |

To me I find it hard to think of Empire as a sequel, if only because it was designed as a trilogy from the first. Same caveat applies to The Two Towers.
I think part of their (Aliens, T2) brilliance is that they deviated from their predecessor. Alien was a slow, dramatic, nearly psychological thriller, whereas Aliens was just pure unadulterated Sci-Fi action. Similarly, The Terminator wasn't nearly the action movie that T2 was. I can see that. Both Aliens and T2 are Top 10 all-time for me. And they hold up well.

Original Star Wars and Mad Max, since we are letting one from the 70s slide in for Aliens.

If we go by "relative to the original", Terminator 2 would be hands down the greatest sequel ever IMO.

Terminator 1 is fine in a semi B-grade 80s sci fi kind of way (a genre I love). Terminator 2 though was just exceptional overall though. Definitely one of the least likely smash hit sequels ever made.

I'm not an Indiana Jones fan because I guess I just don't get into treasure hunter type films. I was thinking about it and I just usually have little to no interest in those types of films for whatever reason. I can't put a finger on why either, something about them just renders them uninteresting to me. I don't think I can recall one treasure hunt type film that I have ever really liked.
I'm a hard Sci Fi and psychological thriller type of guy, especially when it comes to sci fi thrillers with incredible effects. Alien is one of the best movies I've ever seen because of that. Had to go with that trilogy over Back to the Future, which also appeals to my sci fi side but is lighter fare and not as memorable or essential to the history of film for me. Die Hard is all right, but there are enough other movies that are a similar style that I can be satisfied without it even if Rickman was a stud in the first one. Alien has no comparable film that could replace it in my opinion and I prefer it over Back to the Future, so that's why I can't give it up.

I love certain segments of it. It had a really good beginning and a really good end IMO. The bridge scene is iconic Indy. But the middle of the movie kind of drags and may just be a little too dark for a film of that sort.

Short Round made the movie annoying to watch (I wasn’t a kid when this movie came out).
The raft scene made it ludicrous. The presence of Kate Capshaw made the movie completely unwatchable. You would think giving Raiders a 10/10 and Crusades a 8/10,it would be my favorite trilogy but Temple ruined it. By the way, I hope you do a 00/10s trilogy so I can vote for my most favorite one: Bourne. |

The Bourne movies are a great example of a movie series that is enjoyable enough while you're watching it but that doesn't stick around in your memory much afterward. And the shaky cam sucks.

Despite only being two movies, Bill and Ted is the best 80's-90's trilogy.
